I got a PS4 a couple of years back. Can't think of any good games to play that are up my alley, so I gave it to my brother. Bought myself a PS3 Slim. 2nd time I owned one since my fat 80gb died on me. Never got to mod the old one, so I got the opportunity to go nuts and mod the new one: 1TB drive, and loaded with games I've played back in the day, and some I never got the chance to. Loved it so much, I bought a second one, this time the one with full PS2 support. This'll be loaded with PS1 & PS2 games once I got the YLOD issue sorted
Okay? I love my PS3 slim - recently jailbroke it, add a 1tb drive and am loading all my games on it and it now can play PS2 games. PS4 is a versatile platform - the inclusion of AA and Indies and still getting games - mine is well overloaded. PS3 was great totally - but its limitations were there. PS5 was a sharp dropoff for creativity. Mod PS3 and PS4 (Pro) for the big win.
Great video! I still have one and hooked it up recently to play some PS1 games. It doesn't get a ton of use these days, but I still have 3D Dot Heroes, Folklore, LBP, Kingdoms of Amalur and the Dragon Age games. Watching this makes me want to hook it up again.
I rock 3D. So glad you mentioned this. There’s like 40-50 games in 3D (I have them all). I play 3D games all the time, and watch 3D movies (like 200 3D blu rays in my collection). I highly recommend getting a 3D projector for this. DIY a screen or something as big as you can go. It’s absolutely incredible. I made a DIY 175” 16:9 screen and it’s like a movie theatre. The PS3 is the heart of it all, and I’m going to keep 3D alive because it’s so awesome. I wish more people could experience it the way I do because it’s quite an experience when it’s done properly.
I just got PS3 again (as old one I gave away to friend) so was looking at youtube videos to remind me which games to get. You included Heavy Rain and Uncharted, and when they are good games they are available on PS4 so I'll probably skip getting these games (again). Still, solid video! Also if you're into JRPGs there's Tales of Graces f / Xillia 1&2, I'm still sad that they didn't get remastered still and also there's Yakuza (Like A Dragon) Dead Souls, which I doubt will get remaster which is shame as I really enjoyed that one. Finally, my favourite - Everybody Golf World Tour (Should be Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds for those in US), there is also another Everybody Golf but that's also available on PSVita too.
still have my super slim PS3 since 2012 brand new, mainly my Blu ray and CD player on surround sound but I've been gaming a bit more on it lately and grabbing games for it, awesome video my man!
I own all the current gen systems, none of them hit the same like the ps3. I will be purchasing a super slim ps3 as I hear that that’s the most reliable model.
@@PKInTheUniverse I think they will in the future because I'm witnessing more and more people increasingly embrace earlier generations of gaming more than the current generation, especially with an increase of anti-consumer practices game companies have resorted to for extra profits over the years.
I had a friend who had a ps3 and mgs4 when the game first dropped and just like that game, so did my 12 year old jaw. That was my reason for wanting a ps3
The ps3 having such a great Catalog of games is why I don’t have a PS5.. I play newer games on my switch so with everything I own I have a crazy backlog as it is.
PS3 is still one of the best ways (quality and price) to watch original DVD's. The processing on the image is good compared to other modern alternatives that don't break the bank. Still leave it hooked up to my 4k OLED just for DVDs. Also if you pair it with a Playsation 3DTV, the DVD quality is outstanding.
These wonderful ps3's are still around in my place too but haven't been switched on for a while now. The vlog here brought some news to the existing curiousity !
I still have my 2nd PS3, a slim model. I have a racing rig but I don’t have the space to do triple-screens at 43” per TV. Also, you need a separate PS3 and copy of the game to do multi-screen in Gran Turismo 5/6. You have to network all the systems together on a LAN to do it.
A cool thing about the PS1 and PS2 games you can get off the PS3 store is that when they get released on PS4 and PS5 as PS+ premium games, you can download them there for free, too. Even better, they are like 5 bucks cheaper on the PS3 and you now have a copy you can download on multiple generations. I've noticed some games get removed from the PS3 store once they get added to PS+ but not always. So if you see a game get put on Premium, buy it for cheaper on PS3 and you'll now have the enhanced versions on the later systems. Sadly it won't work the other way around. I bought a PS1 on PS4 but it wouldn't let me have it on PS3.
First of all, hello to everyone. I have my ps3 the slim version, and it still works perfectly. I still play it in an LG 3D TV 42-inch. (Model: 42LW5300-UC) from 2011. I still use the 3D feature, which is awesome.
Ive had good games for PS3 and i still have one this is my second one and i enjoy my childhood games like GTA V NCAA football 11 and Madden NFL 11 12 13 10 09 and 08 and COD BLACK OPS AND MW3 AND UFC UNDISPUTED 2010 AND OTHERS AND THOSE GAMES ARE AMAZING FR FR BECAUSE THIS GAME SYSTEM IS JUST THE BEST EVER MADE
I have my ps3 hooked up to a dvd recorder via the standard definition output. This enables me to record off of youtube. I have a dvd player in my car and i can make custom mix dvds of all the music i love.
As one 3D collector to another, I applaud you lol. My Vizio died about a year ago and I ended up getting a LG. I’ve always gone passive 3D so I don’t know how an active 3D tv compares with gaming. Crysis 2 and Resistance 3 amazing 3D games.
I probably lucked out big time i recently scored a cech a01 fully backwards compatible ps3 off offerup recently for 80 bucks. Its amazing paring that console with my ps5 i can basically play ps1-ps5 with just those two consoles its absolutely amazing
Bought my PS3 in 2007 for $220 and still have it, it works. I like the interactive fitness games, like skiing, tennis etc..., I may dust off my PS3 and play them again, it was fun. I like the tennis game, but my shoulders are shot, so had to stop it. I'm 67, so I don't know what these new consoles, PS4, 5 can do or if better? I'm stuck with my old ways, I guess! Excellent review, Thx! 😄👍
Nice video, just subscribed. I snagged a rare 20gb fat ps3 cechb00 from Japan with firmware 4.80. Gonna jailbreak it, remove region lock and start picking up all the PS3, PS2 and PS1 games I can find on disc. Paid $179.99 so I think it was a pretty good deal.
I got my PS3 2012 and I still have it today before that I have PS2 which is a great system in itself and the PSP 3000 I still enjoy please find consoles today no I will not be buying a PS4 or PS5
Other then 4K the PS3 supports practically everything from disc formats to file formats. Those ads that said it just dose everything is practically true. There’s a setting that lets you wirelessly print pictures from the PS3 to a printer it’s crazy why would you need a feature like that but it’s a thing.
I still have 3 PS3’s. I play guitar hero. It has really good games, even games that Playstation has been remaking such GTA5, The Last of Us, Resident Evil 4,… Dead Space. I still have Dead Space 2 (and the action figure too),.. I love that game. But my favorite of all time is The Last of Us (which has been re-released on ps4 and ps5). I have used the PS3 for watching downloaded movies since its release. Also, I still have a 3D tv, so maybe I should get Gran Turismo 5 🤔
I have been picking up so many titles for my ps3 recently. I just hope sony doesn't shut off all online support for it anytime soon. Have another 80+ titles to finish.
Its still worth it, great multimedia center. And the 3D option is very cool ,Crysis 3 in 3D. Installed a 500 Gb SSD got a small speed bump in loading times and its a bit quieter also. SSD does not affect the game loading times from CDs. Thats not maybe too important put if you shut down the PS3 with regular HDD it takes a bit of time to shut off, but with the SSD it instantly shuts off.
I just copped a slim in great condition off the street right as it started raining. Took it apart, no water got inside. Dusted it and booted it up days later and i'm happy to say i have a new blu ray player for my monitor
My go to system for light gun games..... playstation move is still great fun, House of the Dead 3,4, The Shoot, Resident evil Chronicles, killzone 3, Sorcery, Sports Champions 1,2 and many more. A great feature. I still have my LG 3D HD tv and playstation 3 3D games look amazing on it. I've just fitted a WD ssd 500 gb in it and my PS3 runs like a dream. Great system.
One plus of modding your ps3 is setting a custom fan curve so your ps3 doesn't die. My 2001a has mx-4 thermal paste and a 240gb SSD inside OC evilnat and runs great. The things you can do with this console is amazing.
Still got my mgs4 80gb version . It's 🔥. Got SF3 third strike online edition on it. Never gonna sell it because of this game and also reliability, and backwards compatibility.
I still keep my ps3 to play sports champions with the move sticks. My kids enjoy that. My wife plays dj hero every now and then. We don't play any games with the regular controller. The ps3 slim was my main console from 2010 to 2018 til I got the ps4 pro. I recently got an xbox series s and I found a good number of 360 games that I used to love on ps3.
I ran through 3 ps3 consoles and I’m on my 4th as we speak, I just wish they lasted longer.. I dread the day I won’t be able to get another due to them being old and limited..
Did get myself a Backwards Compatible PS3 about a year ago, had to change some parts, clean it out and change the cooling paste, but now it works really well, and I don't have to have to have more than my PS3 out for PS1 to PS3 gameplaying needs. In regards to the PS3 store, they were planning to shut it down, but in the end protests got them to stay their hand.
To this day you cannot play Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, or MotorStorm on anything else except on a PS3. Great games stuck there. But strong reasons to own the console at the same time. Added bonus - you can get convertets now to properly use PS4 or PS5 controllers on your PS3 with full functionality if you prefer a more comfy PlayStation controller.
mine is collecting dust but I will never get rid of it because it's one of the first gifts my wife got me. It just feels weird tho. PS4 and PS5 are cool, but the PS3 just feels muddy. But it still is a good console to boot up every now and then.
3D Dot Heroes is a game I still need to try out and I've always thought the Killzone series looked really good. Damn shame Sony kinda swept that IP under the rug! Also, thanks for reminding me that I need to play some of the PS1/PS2 titles I downloaded on the PS3 yeaaars ago that I never got around to startin, haha!
Buying a ps3 tomorrow. Found a store that has ps3s for only 99 usd. Already have a ps4, but unlike the ps4, the ps3 can play dvd and blue rays without having to download anything first. And ps3 has many more and better racing games than ps4 in my opinion. Loved Metal Gear solid 1 and 2 , So looking forward to playing metal gear solid 4 and other good games on ps3 that I missed until now. Right now ps4 is also mostly remake and remastered games, So looking forward to playing great original games. Also fantastic that you can play ps1 games, but strange that you can't also play ps2 games on ps3.
I bought a 60GB backwards compatible model for £50 a few weeks ago and i am happy with my purchase. It sits alongside my 320GB slim model (upgraded my HDD to 1TB) i play my PS3 regularly. Owning a PS5 and a PS3 i can now play the enitre generation of PlayStation games. Owning PlayStation Plus Premium gives me bonus access to PSP games too so only one missing would be PS Vita which i own anyway to access that libarary. :) Great video!
I still own my ps3 slim that I will not get rid of. I have it installed with hen on it so I can play games on my hard drive. I plan to get some more games for the system soon.
The 3d ability of the PS3 is a digital time capsule when everyone thought 3dTV was the future. I bought a PS3 3dTV when ToysRus was getting rid of them out for $79. One thing I think you missed was the PS3 had a lot of 2-3 full games on a disc. There's quite a lot of them and to get 3 games for one price is a great benefit. I don't think PS4 ever had these types of collections. (X360 had them too).
I remember playing metal gear guns of patriots on the ps3 , those were the good days I don’t know how old I was as I I was born in 2000 but yeah man these games were the best ever in the ps3 and Xbox 360 was great aswelll
Ps3 is definitely still worth every penny i never bought a ps4 because of my backlog and was pissed with sony for dropping backwards compatibility. My mgs4 80gb model died back in 2016 and I've had the super slim since. Back in 2020 when we all had nothing to do i added hen to mine and started ripping my games to the hdd along with bringing back ps2 compatability thanks to ps2 emulation on every ps3 but being locked by sony.
I play my ps3, on the same tv as my ps5 and switch. It was my media center for movies and tv and games up to 2019, when I got a ps4. But, the ps4 is on the bedroom, and the ps3 is still going, and I just go a bunch more games for it ( I collected all the Assassin’s Creed games). I use a ps5 controller on mine (see video on our channel).
I understand in now days people just want more singleplayer games than anything and I've seen some of Playstation's first party developers dip their toes in going back to that old model of having a kick ass Singleplayer and then adding on a online multiplayer to it's game like Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Multiplayer. I like to see more of that and not this live service video game future we're in now. Back on the PS3 there were soo many first party Playstation studios doing a single player and a multiplayer mode, Killzone 2, Killzone 3, Last of us Multiplayer, Uncharted Multiplayer, Starhawk.
With the Arkham Asylum game, you'll just need the Red and Blue 3D glasses. No real 3d tv required. The Xbox 360 version came with 2 3D glasses packed in. You'll have to go in settings and hit the 3D switch.
I picked mine up in spring 2012, have been using it since, it runs like a top but to be honest, I have cleaned it 2-3 times so it has always run fairly cool, plus its a slim so it is more efficient than the og ps3.
Found a ps3 slim at a thrift store fo 20 bucks didn't have controllers but plugged in my switch wired controllers and they worked can't press a ps3 button but buying a ps3 media remote to fix that

The only thing I used my PS3 for was NCAA Football. I missed out on a ton of games during college lol.
Jailbreaking your PS3 or softmodding it with PS3HEN like I have both done is a very cool thing to do, it can make the PS3 *even more* worth getting!
I still play the PS3, some of the old games are retro classics. It is what it is. Great video man
Thank you
@@PKInTheUniverse you're very welcome, keep on gaming
I have a PS1 and 2 PS3 and I bought it in 2010 and it still works I love it so many memories and always enjoy it got my second PS3 in 2018
I got my PS3 2012 and I still have it today before that I have PS2 which is a great system in itself and the PSP 3000 I still enjoy please find consoles today no I will not be buying a PS4 or PS5
You need to play Blur is a amazing game and still have multiplayer on that can stack up to 20 players on lobby
PS3(slim) UNTIL I DIE !!!
,😱😱😱
I just copped a slim in great condition off the street right as it started raining. Took it apart, no water got inside. Dusted it and booted it up days later and i'm happy to say i have a new blu ray player for my monitor
I have all of the play stations still my ps3 and ps4 are still used. Should I keep my ps1 and ps2?
Someone gave me a first gen backwards compatable cause she thought it was broken. It just wasnt set to hdmi settings lol.
I do own a PS3 slim. There’s a few excellent exclusives on it.
So many must have exclusives. I think I’m gonna make a collection video to highlight some more of these.
Good video, tbf I never owned a PS3 so I never saw a point to collect one but i now have some reason to buy one
PS3/Xbox360 were so pure compared to what we have today. Horse armor not withstanding, it was a better time.
To me, it felt like the last great huge leap in graphics.
Great video man! Hell yeah ofc is ps3 more than enough worth to have in 2024, as for me that playing JRPGs there are many of those on the ps3.
Great video!
I still own my ps3 slim that I will not get rid of. I have it installed with hen on it so I can play games on my hard drive. I plan to get some more games for the system soon.
I just found one at the goodwill in mint condition, what a steal. The prince will sit by the king ps5
Just got a PS3 a few days ago mainly for Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace walker. Looking forward to the MGS 3 remaster
Great reasons to own a PS3! I want to get that MGS3 remake on PC
I am a fan of the Disgaea series and sometimes dont have the best internet connection so I if I want to reliably play D2 and Disgaea 3 need that PS3
We waited years for MGO4 +MGO Online it was absolutely Amazing back then
I play my ps3, on the same tv as my ps5 and switch.
I been playing my ps3 I love it better then today's games
Don’t forget the PS5 controller works with PS3. 😁
Nani??
Shindeiru??
Yeah I still use my PS3 quiet often few times weekly
I have a couple ps3 systems running. I have a race wheel and a couple sharp shooters active. It's still online for free for now. I say it's worth it.
Sounds like a great set up!
Found a ps3 slim at a thrift store fo 20 bucks didn't have controllers but plugged in my switch wired controllers and they worked can't press a ps3 button but buying a ps3 media remote to fix that
Just dusted mine off. Just for that nostalgia. That’s worth it weight in gold alone,
I still play and love my ps3
