you guys deserve soooo much more subscribers and views !!! You have by far my favourite channel since I found it. The best stuff combined with the best humour ;) I love it.
If you set the crank at about 12-14 deg from top dead center, you hit a spot in the cam where no valves are under spring pressure (or are all under equal pressure, and when you release the cam pulleys, they wont spin on you, and you don't lose alignment with the crank. Little tips from hard lessons learned.
God Bless you, I'm going to be doing an entire top end rebuild with new timing components and I was wondering if there was a spot where no springs are under pressure.
@@speedacademy how much preasure did u use for the cylinder?? I'm installing my stage 4 comp cam and having a hard time removing the valve springs.. please help !! Anyone !!
Ive seen curved jaw vice grips used also. It's cringe but has to be done sometimes. Just got some ford performance cams and long tube headers for my 09 S197. Can't wait to do this job. Thanks for this video.
I would absolutely love to see you guys work on a 2000 Lincoln Town Car, make a super cool sleeper build, since it's a Ford Modular V8 it shares many performance parts with the older Mustang V8. Cams, headers, turbo or blower and big meaty tires
The mustang I bought was a half finished project, I put 5.4 cams from a 3 valve truck, and I havent had problems so far. If u want a more mean sound, do it. I didnt have a choice, cause I was on a budget, and I could not find any 4.6 3 valves in the junkyard
the more I watch work done on the top of those modular motors the more I like the old pushrod motors. For grip on the cam body when lining up the phaser sprocket try a small piece of leather or Naugahyde in the jaws of the pliers.
Hi, I'd like to ask, in the video, that I saw that, you've replaced all the Rocker armrs and lift Adjuster and changing the cams! At the same time. How was it possible ? Please explain me. In advance Thanks you so much . Francesco
I use pearl necklace drop it down the spark plug hole till I got almost a whole necklace in there.. . and then I slowly roll the piston upward till it pushes on my pearls and my pearls hold my valves in while I make spring seal changes... and it works on all engines..use it on lawn mowers to.....
Damn there's that Tim Horton again lol ... I must come to canada to try out this mans stuff. I thought it was just coffee because my good friend Jeff Thorman Brings his Tim Hortons. Now you said FOOD so I MUST MUST try him out now.
Enjoying the Mullet Mustang series. Would love to see the same kind of videos, you buy a car and work on it to make it better for track, not just drag. Would love to see you compare the same era cars like 2005 G35 which was a competitor to this.
Wow great video! I'm gonna subscribe. So why do you think they want you to remove the roller followers before the cam if you cam do it your way and just take them off after the cam is up and out?
God that first start up scared the living shit out of me! I don't even like mustangs but damn did that sound BAD! Good thing it was only the lifters though.
Mine is doing this after a stage 3 comp cams install. How did you guys fix the issue? I spun the motor over a few separate times until the oil pressure was up and still has that god aweful noise. Please help lol
I know the car Pete's Evo is pretty much complete but i hope some stuff is possible for some content lapping or just random updates. There is only so many times I can watch the videos of it!
We're definitely going to do a track test of it this summer, since we're swapping out the coilovers for some Fortune Auto 500-series. Pete wanted something more comfortable for the street that's still track-capable, so we'll see how he likes the 500's.
Are you not supposed to lockout the phasers on those cans I have Cam cams first stage and I had the lockout the phasers and it made 350 rear wheel horsepower along with the motion plates delete system
Not bringing the engine to TDC will not reveal how worn the chain and sprockets are. When I replaced the all the timing hardware I found I had to move the driver side cam about 5* to bring it back to TDC when all the new parts were installed . This out of time cam shows up when comparing O2 sensor readings. Everything else was a 100% on my 4.6 and ran fine but the O2 sensor reading were out of whack (comparing cyl banks). Couldn't find an explanation swapping sensors of course confirmed it was not sensors. It was after changing all the timing hardware due to a bad tensioner and I happened to look at the O2 sensor data afterward that I discovered that the readings were now normal.
Use an ARP bolt on the sprocket (phaser) one time use bolt won't have to be replaced if it ever has to be disassembles again. I also remove the fuel pump relay and crank the engine till I see oil PSI when ever I have opened up the oil system. That was a scary sound but the prelube probably saved it from damage.
Question(s) for you - I gather you used the compressed air because you cant crank the engine (manually) to get the valves up , yes? Does the air hold them all up or did you move the air line? Second - have you seen the Lisle 36200 Valve Keeper Remover and Installer tool ? Wonder if it works on a mustang...watched on a Honda and it was awesome....put this in the youtube search box "replace valve stem seals - with cylinder head on" and tell me what you think...would save folks ALOT of time
Correct, the compressed air is one of the best ways to ensure you dont drop a valve into the motor. It pressures the cylinder and holds the vales up. Never seen that tool in action on a Mustang, it could work but we've always trusted the compressed air method.
I know this is a few years old at this point, but how much psi of air would you guys recommend using in the spark plug socket to keep the valves up? Thank you!
Any break in procedure for post install? I've seen comp cam that needed a 15min run in at 2500rpm to properly set and harden the wear surfaces on the cam lobes.
I usually just take my phone and take lots of pictures if im doing a job where i have to remember where and how alot of parts go,, i still use a box very similar to theres...
So you guys work full time for NV now, right? ;) I bet it's really a nice benefit to be able to work in the heated shop, and have a lift too! Great video as always, guys.
I have a question my son's 05 was making some valve spring noise and his car died and won't even turn over is there some kind of sensor stopping it from turning over or did it drop a valve and seize maybe?
where did you buy the spark plug air hose i cant find one? the ones i am finding are 14 and 18mm i was told the 3v is 16mm help me out if you can thanks
Great job, a little "back yard" but you got it done. A better sound clip , warmed up, and from the rear would have been nice. Sounded a bit "lopey", but hard to tell with the brief moment you had it running.
Do you think it's worth upgrading a cam for a grand marquis? My only upgrade now is that aluminum intake cover when my plastic one cracked. I plan on switching to dual exhausts but was wondering if I should do a cam swap first? Thanks
The one downfall of a cams swap on a 3 valve is that the stock bottom end will probably fail , catastrophically , if used frequently at R.P.M.s approaching 6400 .
Richard Skipper most likely the stock rods can’t handle 6,400RPM+. Connecting rods are under a lot of tensile and compressive loads constantly and if you’re approaching 6,500+ RPM consistently, you’ll probably end up snapping a rod. the crank is pretty stout so i doubt its the crank that’ll go first.

@@BJ-fk9sq when you rotate the crank with valve covers removed, you will see when you hit that sweet spot. No pressure on any of the valves.

All you have to do is remove the intake rocker that has pressure on it. The cam will not move when removing the phaser...
