2018 Audi S6 - Review, Exhaust, 0-60, Launch Control

  • In an automotive world where the vogue is downsizing, large displacement engines, especially those with over 6 cylinders are quickly becoming phased out of production. It won’t be long until we start to see our beloved V8 performance cars with small displacement, forced-induction engines, either combined with electric motors, or just ditching the combustion altogether.
The 2018 Audi S6 is the last S6 to get a V8 engine, probably… ever.
Watch this vid to see my thoughts on the S6 as a whole. I do a launch control tutorial, 0-60 time with a Dragy unit, and give you guys a whole lotta V8 sound.

If you where wondering why the launch didn’t work its because you put the car in manual mode not sport mode. After u put the car in drive pull the stick down one more time and on the digital part of the dash it should say S

CO kicks OK that’s very good to know, I appreciate the insight. Was wondering why it launched at just a hair above 2000 RPM. In my head I was thinking maybe it’s because it’s so cold outside that it limits the rpm in launch mode to avoid wheel slip. But that makes more sense. Thanks again 🙏

@@NotSoHandyCarGuy Delayed reply for sure. I've had the S6 for a little over 6 months now and WOW. What a machine! I mostly drive it like an old man in comfort mode and am actually a little self-conscious about the exhaust note (which is FANTASTIC), but a little overwhelming for an otherwise stealthy sedan. Absolutely love driving this car and enjoy it's capability. It's a shame the current gen S6 went to the V6...

Great video! I love this car and have been looking for a good used S6 just like this one, one owner, clean Carfax, no accidents. My dilemma is parting with my current car. I own a 2017 Dodge Charger Scat Pack, 485 HP and it is fast and fun. My wife keeps saying "I can't believe you would sell the Charger to buy a S6." There's just something about the S6 Audi that I love.

Finish inside and out is rated as good as they come now. I have that same interior and the pale gray is ultra classy. My one and only quibble: in my previous Audi (A6 4.2) it was possible to tilt the side mirrors down to see the kerb when parking, if this is possible on my S6 I haven't broken the code yet!

You have to understand what the Audi Product development was up to with this car.
It is a understatement Car for businessmen and dads who do travel a lot on the autobahn.
You cannot arrive to a customer meeting in a RS6 or Mustang or whatever here in Germany. You need something that shows that you do know what you are doing but that don‘t show off that much. And the S6 is the perfect fit I think. It is not that brutal as the RS, looks very decent but still serious and beside its serious power it is still very comfortable on long trips.
For me it is the perfect car.

*yep, needs an edit. Love the humour (Oprah!! WTF! 🤣) and the nod to the badges that car geeks will get but randoms won't..spot on! Really love the respect for and excitement for the fact your Dad had to live with some turkeys due to finances but can now get this classy beast - respect for that!!
The understeer in Audis with heavy engines is no surprise - I own and thoroughly enjoy a B7 A4 Avant 3.0 TDI which I added an RS4 rear anti roll bar to; thanks to reading forums and understanding the benefits of this simple mod and the fact that there's no real difference in the front bar. It keeps the car flatter and overall, it's a whole load of fun for what it is. Next car will likely be on of these S6's as the RS6 is the dream but not practical for my lifestyle / budget but,...waffling nearly over...this video has made my day! 😁

That's exactly my car. Except for some reason they've put the steering wheel on the wrong side in yours. I adore it. It has endless thrust. Proper wolf in 'sheepish' clothing 👌🏻 uneconomical beyond belief in the real world 😭. It is too quiet but Audi have a problem making the 'S' models too close to the RS. I also have an S5 Cabriolet that I've replaced the exhaust for a Milltek - now that does sound awesome. 😍

    To enable launch control:
    1. Engine warm. Not coolant indicator showing normal. The engine oil takes longer to heat than the coolant so make sure it is actually warm.
    2. ESC off
    3. Car in dynamic
    3. Sport OR Manual
    4. Steering wheel straight (or it wont work)
    5. Brake
    6. Gas to the floor
This works on even more Audis. With an 8 spd ZF there is no dual clutch, so the car strains against the brakes causing the front end to lift while the rear squats and the car tries to take off. In the DSG found in S3, RS3, RS4, RS5 and R8, there will be a pause. The ZF8 powered RS6/RS7 will immediately launch.
I have a 3.0T A6 with an APR stage 2 tune which will 0-60 in high 3s. With a trans tune, which is happening this year, people are getting mid 3s.
Witness the power of a untuned ZF8 in this comparison. You will note that the haldex powered cars spin the front more than the back. You will notice the RS6 @ 6:29 squat and the in car at 6:32 the front raising. You will see the rear bumper distort from the RS6 shocking the pavement with all that oomph:
    th-cam.com/video/1IXHhGeOO6g/w-d-xo.html
Video of a nutbar with a tuned 3.0 and trans tune set with 5k launch. Everybody says 3800 is too much for the street, but not this guy. I think there was a lot of vodka involved...

SUCH an underrated car. So far it's doing well! My pop's been keeping the miles off of it for the most part. He's probably around 15k. But no issues yet. As far as I can tell, the most important thing you can do for the 4.0t is change the oil twice as often as the scheduled intervals state to. That'll help prevent clogged turbo filters and turbo failures. As for the DSG, there's a video on how to adjust your driving habits to prevent wear on the tranny's clutches. I have three more videos on the S6 that you should check out! One's about the ECU tune, one's about the DSG tune, and one's a POV drive up in the mountains. Thanks!

Just a head up, you launched the car the wrong way. When you pushed the gear stick to the right, you put it in manual mode. It needs to say "S", you do that by pulling the gearshift back. When it's holding rpm at ~2000rpm, that's actually burning ip your clutches, so be careful when you do that!

As much as I like the C7 S6, I'd opt for the C8 since I live in the States. The reasons? Because the C8 has better tech and has optional rear-wheel steering. I also would like to daily drive it, and a V6 gets better economy than a V8. What's more, the V6 actually has more torque.

Yes! Different turbos, but essentially same architecture. Good engines

Everyone needs to comment on audis page i did its stupid the new s6 has only 350 hp are you kidding me . For 80k it should have 520hp. Not 350 shit.

No its 444 hp, same as my V8, my dealer told me they tweaked the exhaust somehow to get a V8 sound out of it.

Man that interior color would be a deal breaker for me.......just looks like it’s a dirty color. I think my dream car would be an RS7 performance. And the S6 is not even close to a RS7 let alone an RS3

Aw man I LOVE the interior color, but to each their own, right? Dude an RS7 is the DREAM, and the RS3 is also a hell of a vehicle. We actually tuned this S6 and now it’s making closer to stock RS7 figures. It’s at 529hp and 565 lb-ft. It does the 1/4 in 11.4sec. And for those figures, the S6 is a hell of a value

At the end of the day, the S6 is an automatic. Who cares if it has a V8 with dual turbo's -- While that is sick, that engine with its oil filter screens from the turbos is going to put your pops in a world of hurt if he doesnt have them removed -- Talk about a not so cost friendly maintenance issue. Honestly, what is worse than likely not having a V8 in an Audi in the future (which may or may not come to pass -- I think that is up in the air) is discontinuing of the manual transmission. I want to drive the car, not let the car drive me and while a beast of an engine it is, you don't feel it like you do in a manual nor is the S6 that fun of a car to drive. It's comfortable and larger, but thats about it -- you can raise and lower its air suspension which is dope, but again its blah... Of course the S6 never had a manual because it was the larger more luxurious then its siblings S4/S5 you just can't beat a manual trans. The S6 is a solid machine but ill takes less of an engine in terms of ponies and upgrade an V6 Supercharger to more ponies than the S6 comes from the factory. Nice video and break down of the whip though.

@@NotSoHandyCarGuy It works now, thanks! Must've been something with youtube, it was only with this video. I could hear it, but the video was distorted, looked like a reel where you edit videos just 10x.

Lemon..lemon..lemon. The only sound l get with my S6 are the dash board lights indicating another issue or mechanical failure. The 7 speed dual clutch gear box is a total piece of shit and Audi should be ashamed of themselves for even using it.
