That is an interesting observation about hearing the engine working. With EV, really what we need is some improvements in battery tech...250 - 300Wh/kg just doesn't add up, half the weight you pull in a Tesla is the weight of the battery. As you increase the range, more of the vehicle weight and therefore energy consumed is due to battery weight. I've heard some "claims" of solid state batteries achieving 500 - 700Wh/kg. Can't happen soon enough I reckon.
