The reality is my standard 2014 Holden Colorado can tow and carry more than the standard Patrol. Well sort of. Everyone looks at GCM but payload makes it real. And a Patrol with 3.5 ton and 2 adults and a full tank of 140kg of fuel has almost no payload left. The Colorado has over 1 ton so you have allot more real load capacity in a vehicle thats over 500 kg lighter. If your sensible and dont try to tow 3.5 ton the payload advantage gives you real practical touring capacity. In a much more economical vehicle. I like the Patrol for lots of reasons. But basically the right upgrade is essential.

I tought the patrol had a gvm penalty reduction when a 350kg ball weight was added. From memory this left about 220kg of payload before going over the new gvm.

So really, with a stock Ti towing a 3500kg caravan, the max you can ever get your GCM to is 6650kg (3500kg car (inc 350 towball) + 3150 caravan)? So, a GVM upgrade of 350kg will let you reach the full GCM?

@@Markeatsbird no not necessarily the 350Kg upgrade would have to be all applied to the rear axle , I have a 300kg up grade on my Y62 but it's over both axles the front is still 1650Kg max and the rear is now a 120Kg increase to 2150Kg from 2030kg but there is weight transfer from the front axle to the rear , if you drop 350Kg on the tow ball it increases the rear axle by more than 350Kg

So with the dubious 350kg GVM upgrade...what work is done to the brakes to allow for the 10%+ weight gain and thus longer stopping ditance.?
