  • This is an in-depth video about what to expect when signing up for the military. I cover MEPS, the ASVAB, Picking a job, physical, DEP, Getting ready for the Physical Fitness Test, Security Clearance tidbits, and more . I have knowledge of the Navy Physical Test but if you need information on pullups just use the same basic workout I gave for pushups

    Thanks for the tip on the situps about keeping your abs tight and not going all the way down. I initially did 79 pushups and i only did 59 situps but i was resting all the way down on each situp. I know i only need like 49 situps to pass for my age but i want to try for the max. Im going to retry my max situps again soon.

    Went to MEPS yesterday. It's a rough time, like the DMV on steroids. But it makes getting sworn in so rewarding. Leaving next month, HM.

    Hello, your videos are extremely informative! I'm considering the Navy but the ASVAB is holding me back. Somehow, by mistake, I was able to take the medical and physical and passed but didn't pass the ASVAB. This is my third time taking it at MEPS. Could there be other options in taking the ASVAB?

    So... I'm in a situation at the moment. I'm currently awaiting a medical clearance for being on antidepressants, and I do have scars from... mild self harm many years ago...
    I'm really nervous and curious as to the things they do and don't accept when it comes to the psychological aspect

      Shades_Of_Purity That would be a bi of a pickle. I know someone that couldn't join for that very reason but i think it depends on the severity of it and if you have everything under control. I hope everything turns out in your favor though

    Hello Sailor, I am currently in the process of joining the navy. I am opting for the intelligence specialist position. The issue is that My father and I are both naturalized citizens and my mother is not a citizen and she does not live in the country. My father has been a citizen for 30+ years. And I believe the position requires top security clearance. Will this be an issue? Thanks for your help

    whats up with childhood asthma? i had it when i was young (only used an inhaler) but i have grown out of it and it hasnt effected me since i was quite young. should i say something about it?, and if i dont, could i get into trouble if they somehow find out??

      @GingerSailor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +SiLVaBaCK J I can't tell you the best route, but what I can say is I've known several people that hid that fact and none of which haven't gotten caught. However, if it stopped bothering you before you turned 12, you can get a waiver for it though.

      dont they ask for all of your medical records? wont they see it then?

    • @GingerSailor

      they do not ask for your medical records unless you list that you have something wrong with you. They didn't need mine because I didn't list any ailments. and they haven't looked at mine either.

    What's the best way to lose weight ? I'm only a few pounds of my max but I wanna be way under to be safe. And is there any advice on how to lose inches in the hip area ? They taped me and my waist was a 27 but hips were 39.5 :(

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Mikaya Moorleghen well there are a few ways to help slim you down. if you 're only 5 lbs off or so, you can get that within 3 decently motivated weeks. When you wake up, drink 21-32 oz's of water. What that does is help get the body's digestive system going earlier in the day so you can pass out more off the fluff weight that is just stuck in the intestinal tract. What I will suggest is to do one longer, lighter more cardio related workout (biking nonstop, jogging, swimming, you can even do the Insanity workout or something) for 20 mins a day (you can rest every 5th or 6th day if you need to) and one shorter but far more intense workout before an hr or so before you eat your biggest meal, roughly 10mins of intense exercise after a small warm-up (a sample workout would be 3 sets of squat thrusts, push-ups, some type of ab exercise each for a minute straight at full intensity with a 20 sec break in between). That short but intense workout before you eat actually burns the glycogen off of your muscles to produce energy for your muscles to move (got lectured a ton by my track coach in college) and the next hr and a half, your body is actually burning calories at a very high rate and trying to absorb everything it can to replace the glycogen. and if you eat in that window, the fat from your diet doesn't get processed as well and a portion of it just passes right through you. Never push yourself to to an injury but flirt with the "My body won't be able to move for a good 30 minutes" line lol. try to eat leaner less fatty protein like fish and turkey instead of red meats for a bit. usually the body stores fat around your center of gravity and it thins out from there, so its hard to spot reduce but your hips are at your center of gravity so you should see most of your weight loss in that area. but just from your pic on youtube, you do not look fat in the least and will probably easily pass the body fat % measurement they do if you don't make weight.

    At what rank in the navy do you get to wear the really cool dress white suits with the shoulder ranks. The officer uniform? If you start as an E3?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alecxis Lara Officers generally. They're the ones with the shoulder boards but chiefs though master chiefs get the dress white suit too though...just minus the shoulder boards. Usually takes at least 6 yrs on the low end to make chief if you are highly motivated. but they do look amazing though

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Alecxis Lara Sonar Tech on a Submarine. STS is mine my A-school takes 17 wks after 4 months of intro schools before A-school. A-schools on the short end are culinary specialists, 8wks, Undesignated Seaman take a 3 wks or so course then they go to the fleet but that would be a hell of a lot of hard work

    My little brother wants to enlist but he has smoked before, should he be upfront when he go the meps since they will ask him in the moment of truth anyway. Or should he keep quiet

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't, on this channel, tell him to lie. IF he has been caught with it in his system and it was documented at any point by any authority it is not a good idea to lie. If that hasn't happened then he wouldn't get called out for it. there are no lie detector tests. The moment of truth is a scare tactic, and nothing more. Though the guy that did my moment of truth was a very intimidating lol, it is was just a test to see if you can handle the pressure

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +thaifighter96 To prepare for boot camp, I just did my normal workouts. Usually 1/3 cardio, 1/3 plyometric, speed work, and 1/3 weight training. But at boot camp, you will not be using weights at all. Towards the very end you will be doing some circuit training that is a decent work out but don't expect to be hit the gym hard in boot camp

    I'm in DEP as a nuke, so I have to ask; what did you find out that made you glad that you're not a nuke?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +stubertpd the school work load is tremendously time consuming. I've only heard this from Nuke drops that get funneled into submarine school. but if you're a nuke, port liberty is close to none since the nuclear reactor has to be manned 24 hrs a day. Some rates (sts and ft) on subs get plenty of liberty at port to go and seed the area. Just those few things make me feel less mad about not getting an age waver to get into nuke school. Though, even given that, I'd probably still go nuke just because of the signing bonus and reenlistment bonuses.
