  • So I went to MEPS yesterday and took the Physical. I'm pretty sure I was the oldest dude there. In fact, everyone was 19~21. Anyone else considering the military that's over 35?

    Thanks for this. Currently 35. Passed Asvab and MEPS(slightly color blind tho, haha) I was definitely the oldest there; waiting for age waiver approval for NG to be a MP. Never too late to pursue your dreams.

      Awesome! Congrats! Interesting, right? Being like 15 years older than everyone else feels a bit odd. But yeah, glad to hear! Definitely never too late! Keep me updated on your journey!

    I hope you get to go back soon! After 3 1/2 months from the first time I went to MEPS I finally got to go back and I finally swore in last week. The Navy told me no (twice) because of a legal issue but I kept at it. My recruiter is a saint to deal with me lol.

    Thanks for the video. I'm 29 wanting to join either the Air Force or the Navy. Some people tell me that I should have join when I was younger and not when I'm 29. You give me hope I can still go for it. Best of luck to you and keep up the videos.

      Hey Thats awesome! Yeah, don't worry about what other people say. Believe it or not I really should have joined when I was your age but I'm still going anyway. I think you're at the perfect age to join. Keep me updated!!! Have you taken the ASVAB yet?

      Thank you best of luck on your journey on joining the service. I took the ASVAB twice a few years ago once in high school and than again a couple years after I graduated high school. I didn't do to well on the test. This time around I need to study hard. I am debating if I should go in the air force as a E3 as a medical assistant after I graduate college with 48 credits or go in as a E1 to become photographer.

    • @nissannohea8005

    I'm 35, wanting to join the CG. I already took the ASVAB and got a good score. Now I'm waiting to schedule my physical. Kinda nervous since I have an issue with my right shoulder and right hip flexor. I'm keeping a positive attitude and just hoping I'll just need a waiver. We'll see. Thank you for the videos man, it kinda makes me feel a little better hearing someone else's experience in my age range.

    Your awesome. I️ go to MEPS soon already passed asvab for Air Force and I’m 34. Great to see another guy in 30s joining and see I’m not alone. The only thing I’m worried about is passing out when they draw my blood

    • @erikminamihata
      @erikminamihata  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HAHA, thanks bro! Just trying to get better. Oh, don't worry about the blood. I'm squeamish too. It turned out OK. They're pretty fast. Which jobs are you interested in? Hopefully we'll be seeing you around!

    • @MrEugenio808
      @MrEugenio808 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Erik it's all good bro, well basically my recruiter needs a letter of recommendation and I also have to write a letter saying why I want to be in the airforce and all that good stuff, oh did I mention I was prior service army served from 09-13 they say it's harder for prior service to get back in, that's probably why he needs all those letter and as far as the job I want I was looking into pharmacy or air craft maintenance, I also have to retake my ASVAB since I took it before 2004 I guess it's obsolete now.

      Sure thing man, I'll let you know. My recruiter told me that 1A3X1 (Airborne Mission Systems) was one that would have a ship date next month. I'm not sure if that's something I'd want to make a career of though. My ASVAB scores were all in the 80's so she said my options would be petty good assuming I don't have any health issues. I'm hoping to get something Space related if possible, maybe Space Systems Operation. I've got to get through MEPS first though. Your video is the best one I've seen yet, much appreciated.

    • @jeremymoore3810
      @jeremymoore3810 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alright...so MEPS yesterday....everything was going awesome until the vision test. When I use both eyes or just my right eye, I can see fine. Unfortunately, using only my left one, not so much. I got flagged so now I have to go to an optometrist and get a more thorough test done. Afterwards his findings go back to MEPS and they decide from there whether I get in or not. My recruiter doesn't seem to be too concerned about it so that makes me feel a little better, but we'll see. Other than that though, it was pretty easy peezy.

    • @erikminamihata
      @erikminamihata  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah, bro. You'll be fine. You'll be signed off as good-to-go. Congrats on getting through MEPs. Did everyone treat you a little bit nicer when they found out your age?

    • @jeremymoore3810
      @jeremymoore3810 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! Everyone was super nice man. I heard horror stories about the personnel at MEPS, but I had no issues with them whatsoever. The only time they yelled at a few people was when the didn't follow instructions.

      Thanks for asking! It was fine. I had been to MEPS before to take the AFOQT but since that's been so backed up I ended up applying for Navy Officer. I was the only person doing commission so everyone was a little confused on the tests that needed to be done on me. I also had a high pulse, they checked me 3 times and I was above 100 everytime but then I saw the doctor and he took a manual pulse. I almost broke into tears thinking a high pulse would disqualify me.

    • @erikminamihata
      @erikminamihata  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey thanks for the comment. Here's the deal, you can absolutely make it. You have to be sworn in before your 40th birthday so you're fine. You should look up David Goggins and listen to some of his interviews. For me some stuff came up and now I'm trying to go into the Air National Guard. Don't let the age thing or the people around you discourage you. You'll be awesome. It doesn't matter what they think anyway, what matters is how you feel about yourself and what you've done to improve yourself. And who really controls all of that? YOU! You don't want to be 40 years old regretting not taking the leap because some other fools said you were too old. What's great about going in at an older age is that you'll be able to a great mentor to some of the younger guys out there. Have you spoken with a recruiter yet? Getting ready to take the ASVAB? Keep me posted!

    • @erikminamihata
      @erikminamihata  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Augustine! Hey that's awesome! Congrats on getting though! Suggestions on going Active Duty? I'd first just examine your financial situation, make sure you'll still be able to cover all your bills etc. Also, know that your there is a law called USARA which will allow you to be absent from work for active duty for up to 5 years. Look into that. Also, try to out-weight all the benefits vs what you have now. The biggest things for me and my wife are 1. We'll be able to get our Masters Degrees 2. VA Home loans 3. We want to live overseas 4. Government employment once I get out. 5. The opportunity to serve! 6. Being able to classify my business as a Minority Owned Veteran Owned Small business when I get out. That helps if I want to do business with State and Federal agencies. Let me know your thoughts!

I'm going to call him in a few days to tell him I'm ready to go to MEPS. I'm pretty nervous about going to MEPS because I hear they try to find a reason to disqualify you but your video was comforting. Hey good to hear, Adam. USAF Reserve is LEGIT!! Yeah, I totally understand...I was super nervous, but it turned out to be no big deal. I actually felt like they wanted everyone to get through. They don't like interrogate you or anything like that. They just want to make sure you're good to go. It took me a while to get to my physical though, I had to get a waiver for my wrist and that took forever. I would say about 5 months. First Job I'm looking at is Advance Fighter Jet Avionics Technician but I do need a high score in Electronics for that. Hi Erik, I received a bad news from my recruiter yesterday. She said that the Military has a new requirement for green card holders which is background check, she just received the communication yesterday so basically since I'm gonna be 39y.o. 2 weeks from now, the age limit will take effect before I'll get the result coz it will take time so, she advised me not to go on my MEPS which was scheduled already on Monday 11/27/2017. I'm kinda shock when I heard it, I already prepared for my MEPS and already started preparing for BMT too, I guess, there's another plan for me... I wish you good luck and hope to see your post when you finished your BMT...

      Hey Pablo - That sucks! I thought that you can be in BMT up until your 40th birthday. I'm not 100% sure but you might want to check on that. I believe you can also try Navy Reserve if you really want to be in the military. If that doesn't workout you can also check with your state to see if there's a State Military Reserve for your state. Let me know how it goes!

      I"m not for sure on that one. I'd ask a recruiter. But my guess is you'd get a temporary disqualification on that one.

      Nice! You're at a good age to go for it! If I could go back I would have joined ~29-34. Seemed like the more ideal time period for me. Any job in particular that you'e interested in?

      Erik Right now I'm still a little umdecided. I have to loose 2 inches off my waist before I can go to meps. Thinking either aviation mechanics, aviation warfare, master at arms, or corpsman. It kinda stinks being older bit I feel as though one advantage older people like us have is having our facilities about us.
