    Hey,
    I have a ford fiesta so I think the battery size could be considered normal?
    I was wondering if it would be possible to wire it up for the parking feature but be able to kill the power draw when it's to be parked up for a long time.
    If the car was to be on my drive for a few days for example, could I simply unplug the devices where the micro USB plugs into them and there would be no power draw?
    Thanks

    Is the existing hardwire kit and rear camera from the F800 pro comparable with the U1000? It would be nice to only have to swap out the main unit.

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tommy, unfortunately they are not compatible. Because the rear connecting cable is angled the other way on the F800 Pro, and the ports on the U1000 are on the opposite side of the unit, you will have to install the new rear connecting cable that comes with the Thinkware U1000.

    Wondering how to have a 3-ch setup using the U1000 dual cam & a compatible IR cam, preferably Thinkware, for the cabin...suggestions anyone.

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for asking, and great question. Unfortunately, there is no 3-channel dash cam in one system available from Thinkware at this time, meaning that you will have to purchase 2 separate dash cam systems to achieve this. For example, you could purchase the Thinkware U1000 (dual channel) + a separate 1 channel system (Thinkware Q800PRO/F800 Pro) for the interior.
      However, we do recommend an interior camera with infrared capabilities for interior recording, but Thinkware does not offer a one-channel dash cam with infrared at this time.
      Thus, what you could do if you'd like still to keep 4K resolution is to get the BlackVue DR900S-2CH IR for front and interior, then a regular 1-Channel dash cam for the rear (ie. BlackVue DR900S-1CH).
      If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to let us know at info@blackboxmycar.com. You are also more than welcome to call us and our team would be more than happy to help.

    For the radar module add on, is it possible to rotate it 180 degrees after mounting it where its sensing towards the rear and sides of the vehicle?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sumair, it's not necessary to rotate the module by 180 degrees (nor is it possible) because with radar technology, it will already automatically be sensing the rear and sides of the vehicle.

    I got the U1000 installed a couple of months back when I got my new car. It's configured to be in Timelapse during parking mode. I used to get parking incident alerts when entering my car. They were all just false positives which is fine. As of 2-3 weeks ago, I stopped getting these parking incident alerts all together. I checked the files on the dashcam and can definately see they were incidents recorded even though they are false positives. Why have the audio incident alerts completely stopped ?

    Great video! Very informative. I just purchased 1 from BBMC. I am replacing my Blackvue dr 650 gw 2ch. I am so sick of the SD card issues causing it to restart constantly and the overheating issues. I hope Thinkware's product is better. Does Thinkware's U1000 require a Power Magic Pro or is that just a Blackvue thing? Does it come with something similar or is it built in?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lynn, thanks for purchasing from BlackboxMyCar! A Power Magic Pro is a hardwiring kit that's for BlackVue only. You cannot use that with the Thinkware U1000. If you're looking to hardwire with the Thinkware U1000 and did purchase the dual channel version on our website, then you're all set because it does include a hardwiring kit in the box itself.
      The Thinkware app settings does include an option to control your voltage cut-off, so you'll be able to do the same thing as on the BlackVue PMP.

  • @reddz80
    @reddz80 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great review. I have a few questions. I’m thinking of the thinkware u1000.
    First question:
    I know this camera is energy efficient. But how quickly will it drain my battery if I just have it hardwired with no battery pack. In other words, will be batter die much quicker over time with this on parking mode whenever I park? Also will the time lapse parking mode feature use more battery than just motion or event detection? Which is better for parking mode battery efficiency?
    I just bought a brand new car and just concerned I’ll need a new battery in 6 months.
    My last question... my car has engine auto stop start idle feature. If I’m at a light and the auto stop start is engaged and my ignition shuts off whilst at the light, will the camera switch to parking mode? Or will it know the car isn’t technically “off”.
    Thanks so much for your help!

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Stephen, to answer your questions:
      1) If you have it hardwired, it will still depend on your vehicle and its battery. You're probably looking at around 6-8 hours without a battery pack. For better efficiency, time lapse will be more efficient. However, we still recommend getting a battery pack for that reason to extend your parking mode up to 40+ hours.
      2) Auto Stop Idle Feature won't impact the parking mode. I checked with our support team to make sure :)
      If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out at info[at]blackboxmycar.com!

    Does the rear camera work correctly if your car has factory tint on it? And can you use a larger sd card ( 1tb) ?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chesney, most vehicles out there have some form of factory tint on it, so from our experience and from speaking with our customers, you'll have no problem with the factory tint. You can even adjust the settings accordingly to brighten / increase the contrast of your rear cam.
      We have not tested it with a 1TB SD card, as the official documentation does say that the U1000 is only compatible with up to a 128GB SD card. We have had some customers use a 256GB SD card and it worked fine for them, but we would recommend not using an SD card that's bigger than that in size.

    Do I need an external battery pack if I use the radar for parking mode? Will plugging the cam directly to my car mess with the battery?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  ปีที่แล้ว

      An external battery can work together with the radar module to reach some very high parking mode lengths! Still, it is not required, and one of the two will already be a large improvement. Attaching a camera to your car battery will not mess with the battery, depending on what you mean by that, but it does lead to some natural wear + tear that comes with battery usage when the vehicle is off.

    Thanks for making such a comprehensive video! I do have a few questions for you guys. Should I pass on the radar motion sensor if I wanted to record all motion? The way I understood it was that if the radar is attached, the camera will save battery but only record impacts, but if the radar is not attached, the camera will record motion and impacts? Is that correct? I live in a neighborhood with a decent amount of criminal activity so I'm not too worried about impacts but rather people attempting to open my doors and stuff at night. I'm trying to find the best setup for that.
    If the radar is not attached, will motion from the rear camera trigger the parking mode recording?
    I also have another question. How long does it take for battery packs like the Celllink Neo to charge? Do those battery packs require hours of driving to recharge or can the battery be maintained by taking small trips everyday?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Kevin, so the front and back camera are enabled during parking mode and will record simultaneously once activated.
      If you are parking on a busy street, the camera will be turning on and off because of the motion detection (radar works better for larger objects, not so much for smaller objects like people).
      A good option would be the time-lapse recording. In this mode the camera will continuously take a snapshot every second. The snapshots will be strung to together into a file that can playback as one video.
      If you are just using time-lapse mode you wouldn't need a radar and could use a battery pack.
      The Cellink Neo takes on average 45-90 minutes to fully charge. The BI-750 takes 50-100 minutes to charge but has 25% more battery capacity and would last longer on time-lapse mode.

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Yllow, great question. With the Thinkware U1000, the brightness setting can be adjusted to compensate for window tint. Depending on how strong your tint is, you may have difficulty making out certain license plates, but it should be enough to capture what's going on in the rear even with the tint. The best way to test would be using the Thinkware Cloud app to see what your dash cam sees when it's all installed in place. Thanks for asking!

      However, for cars that do tend to have smaller internal batteries (ie. BMW, Porsche, etc.), we do recommend hardwiring the "thing :)" to a dash cam battery pack to compensate for the increased battery draw. If you need more help, reach out to us at info[at]blackboxmycar.com!

      Hi Fast Tiger, what you just described is loop recording, so yes, it does automatically delete older videos by itself once the SD card storage runs out. However, they do have a parking mode feature where videos that are considered "impact" or "motion" detected are separated into a separate folder that are kept forever. Storage options are based on the SD card size that you choose, so for the U1000, you can choose up to 128GB in storage.

    Hi,
    I just bought the Dashcam & the Radar from you. I have couple of technical questions regarding installation of these 2 devices, which I hope you can help.
    My installation: I have the Radar installed at the centre, directly below(and up against) the plastic cover of the rear-view mirror head unit. And the Dashcam is approximately 3/4 inch below the Radar, and it it approximately 3.5 inch from the infotainment unit. (The windshield slope of my vehicle is quite low)
    My questions:
    1) The range of the Radar is 80 degrees horizontal & 35 degrees vertical. That 35 degrees of vertical, is it 17.5 degrees above horizontal & 17.5 degrees below horizontal? Which leads to question #2...
    2) Is the location of my Dashcam interfering/limiting the function of the Radar's to perform effectively? (Please keep in mind the low slope of the windshield and the 35-degree vertical)
    3) According to the manual, it is recommended that the Dashcam device to be installed/located at least 20 cm(8 inches) away from the GPS Navigation device.
    - Does it refer the 'GPS Navigation Device' to that of aftermarket GPS Navigation Device, or to which includes the OEM infotainment unit?
    - Is the car infotainment unit (OEM. Not aftermarket) creating an issue?
    Thank you!

      Hi Reynaldo, thanks for shopping at BlackboxMyCar. I had to relay for the answer from our support team, so this is what they have told me:
      We would recommend placing the Thinkware RADAR and the dash cam beside each other, instead of stacking them vertically together. It should be 17.5 degrees above and below a zero degree horizontal point.
      The location of your dash cam may be limiting the function of the RADAR, so that's why we always recommend our customers to install them beside one another.
      Your OEM equipment should not affect the RADAR, but that said, accordingly to Thinkware's official specifications, you should be cognizant that anything metal MAY impact the wireless signals between the two devices. We don't think it's impacting your devices' performance at this point.
      Hope this answers your question - if you have a follow-up question, please reach out to our support team directly at info[at]blackboxmycar.com!

    • @blackboxmycar

      The cameras generally hold up really well in colder climates as there are no moving components. However, cold will affect the vehicle battery and therefore, parking mode recording times will be affected. For example, when you set the voltage cutoff to 12.0V, it will take less time for your battery to reach this cutoff point in colder months, than it would in hotter months of the year.

You could look into a mobile hotspot for your U1000 so that you can connect to your device using your phone from anywhere. That could be the solution for you if you're looking to connect to it from far away.

    I purchased this camera. Haven’t installed it yet. Two questions, is a module absolutely necessary? What are all the benefits apart from power saving mode? Why should i be concerned about power saving mode? and also it says operating between 14 degrees F and 140 degrees F. Does that mean it wont record under 14 degrees?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi TheRealBrayo, no, the RADAR isn't absolutely necessary, but the power saving mode would be the main benefit of it. We typically recommend getting the RADAR if you're planning on leaving your car for an extended period of time, so you want to maximize the amount of parking mode protection that you get from your vehicle.
      As for the operating temperature, we're not saying that it won't record under 14 degrees F, but there is a chance that the dash cam will shut off by itself to protect your vehicle's battery.

    Hi! Can you install the new U1000 Dual channel without hardwiring it?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You sure can! It's always possible to install a U1000 dash cam with the 12V cigarette cable (plug it into your cigarette outlet). We don't recommend it because you won't have access to a longer-term parking mode (so your camera won't record while you're driving). If you don't want to hardwire your dash cam, then we would recommend getting a battery pack (ie. Cellink NEO battery pack) as well.

    I just bought a U1000 today and hardwire installed it. I have noticed when reviewing the footage it is choppy/only records 1 minute clips. Is there any fix to that?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Footage is naturally segmented into 1 minute clips to help with video compression, allowing for more storage. When an event happens, the Thinkware camera is great at labelling the appropriate footage and storing it in a special category for finding it easily later. Alternatively, you can press the manual record button on the camera to specifically mark footage.
      Unfortunately there is not an option for Thinkware models to increase the video file length.

      @@blackboxmycar how do you fix the playback of the videos being all choppy

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Apologies for the delay. Choppy footage is normally caused by a playback method that is struggling to process the 4k footage of the camera. Please see if the rear camera footage is just as choppy, or try another viewing method.

    Can you turn this camera off whenever you dont want it on while driving? Or does it just automatically stay on when the car turns on? And how is it hard wired? Does it drain the cars battery?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, you can turn this camera off if you don't want it on while driving in the settings (or alternatively, you can just unplug it when you're not wanting to use it). By default, it automatically turns on when you start the car.
      We have information on how to hardwire here: www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/hardwiring-fusebox
      Hardwire installation does drain your car's battery, but by hardwiring, you're charging your dash cam at the same time, so that you don't have to use your car's battery when your car is off and your dash cam goes into parking mode. There is a voltage cut-off option meaning if your dash cam uses too much power beyond a certain voltage, it will automatically shut off to protect your car's battery. This is also why we recommend users getting a dash cam battery pack to protect their vehicle.

The operating temperature of the Thinkware U1000 is -10°C - 60°C (14°F - 140°F), so as long as the climate in Southern California is between those, then you should be okay. @@blackboxmycar The temp is within that that here in Cali, except the in car temp will be greatly higher at times as in most countries in the summer. California is sunny 85~90 % of the time. Just note that if the outside temp is, lets say 85 F and if the car is sealed shut (windows up etc.) within approx. 30 min the in car temp will be around 119 F. and longer time increases temp. So at 95 F outside, within 60 min the temp inside the car will be at around 140 F. Plus the unit will be in direct sunlight, so my guess even hotter. I just remember that the Thinkware F800Pro got so hot it was untouchable at times and was useless for park mode or driving until it cooled off. I even added window tint, but it did not help. I really would like to get the U1000 as it has what I want, but just a hesitant. So is there a way to get a warning or something via message from the unit if it is getting close to over heating? Is there any thing the can help dissipate the heat from the device as well? I was also wondering when I had the F800Pro why the mounting and/or camera did not have a reflective area facing out?
