I have been looking for a sleek dash cam for my BMW Z4 for a while now and I finally found that I think works well enough to keep permanently installed. This ThinkWare U1000 offers native 4k resolution at 30fps, a Sony image sensor, great clear video in a sleek design. You also get some safety and driving assist features such as Lane Departure Warning, Front Vehicle Departure and Collusion warning. My favorite feature is the red light camera warning it offers even when you are not connected to the internet.

Brilliant, funny thing after watch your video I realized after 13 year my Z4 has a secondary electric lighter outlet under the glovebox. I thought first you added but killing my curiosity I went to my garage to find out that hidden thing for me. I'll rewire my cam now. You made my day thanks. I wish I know what other hidden thing I still unknown from my Z4
If they release a 3 Channel Dash Cam, I hope they make the third Channel able to rotate into whatever direction you want.

What is that shadow ring circling half way around the bottom as you view the video.
When is thinkware going to come out with a new u1000 this came out in October of 2019
Another review I watched about the same camera said their lens was soft/slightly blurry on the right hand side of the shot when zooming in on licence plates, did you find this as well?

You should have turned the camera on before mounting it and you should have mounted it to the other side in case you wanted to add the radar later
I need help parking and switching lanes does this help with that ? I wish they came with a big screen to help do this D:
Is you cigarette lighter stays on after you turn off the ignition? The problem with sticking the camera on the glass without checking first that the angle of the camera is correct and then it's too late to correct it if it's not.
I dont have built in wifi, what if i use a portable wifi instead ?
I live in Joliet IL. I want to get one of these for my new 2024 Chevy 3500 HD. I a OBD plug and play but very expensive. I haven't been able to get one. It's been backordered for a while now. It also comes with a rear camera for $649. I think the radar is built in. There's a version that looks a little different and is $279 but I don't think it has GPS. I'm fighting with the wife about spending the $.
How long does it take you to download full 4K footage from this dashcam to your phone? I need it to be quick as I share the footage with pupils in car on driving lessons to review any incidents. Some cameras take ages!
Downloading 4k footage isn't fast through the app, but about as fast as I've had one any dashcam. Probably takes about 5 minutes to download 20 minutes of footage. I would recommend downloading to a laptop via microSD if possible.
I want to monitor my car from home in my phone (LIVE VIEW) WHICH DASH CAM DOES THIS AND HELPS ME BACKUP AND PARK? endless recording while driving and parked aswell
I know thinkware is cloud enabled but i heard it has bugs on its app and it resets alot and it doesnt have a screen to help park
I like the mirror dash cameras cuz of how big screen is so it helps when its safe for me to switch lanes and park
How's yours working out so far? As a dash cam user for years I'm very interested in trying out this 4K dash cam, but Amazon user reviews scare me away. Lol. Can't imagine $400ish(after tax) dash cam stop working after 1 year warranty. My $170 HD dash cam's been working fine for 5 years without any issue and I used it almost daily. Oh and using 512GB sd card.
I’ve had it in my car since the video and it’s been working flawlessly. I have a 256gb card in it, not sure if 512gb works.
Can it record audio?
Yes, of course. There is even a sample audio in the video
I wanted to get this cam but it's ridiculous that it only supports a 128gb mini sd card. At 4K up front and 2k in the rear in parking mode on the time lapse setting it would start rewriting video in less than 4 hours. What was Thinkware obviously not thinking about? Today is 6/21/22 and Best Buy, Thinkware and Blackboxmycar have it $100 off at $399. I suspect Thinkware will be rolling out their new line of cams which offer 256gb of storage.
If you want this cam for mainly parking mode then this is a hard pass especially with all the problems The Thinkware Cloud has been suffering from it's inception.
Thinkware only says they support 128gb but I can verify that 512gb works as well. Have been using it for a few months now, no problem

@@richeyrich6855 I tried a 256 GB card after reading comments like the one above last month. IT DID NOT WORK! the card failed after roughly 1 hour and would not work after that with the dashcam, couldnt even reformat.
Same for me. The camera won't work with a 1TB and card and when you use all the recording features the 64GB that comes with the camera gets overwritten within a day. At this price point the storage should be better.
These are ok not as good as some reviews claim. Mine failed 9 months after I got it. I contacted support and they were very helpful, however when it came time to replace it, the warranty department waited a month before finally telling me to bad your out of warranty. This was even after I proved to them in the email that I sent the first time that it failed, Two months before the warranty was up doesn’t matter they say you’re still out of warranty. I’ll never buy from that company again buyer beware.
I need a dashcam that saves long videos as 1 file instead of breaking them up into multiple 60 second files.
The problem with that is that if something happens, you might lose the entire footage rather than just the last minute.
Yeah that’s not a good idea if the file gets corrupted you would lose the whole video
