Very informative review. I will be purchasing the U3000 for my next vehicle within the next month. I need to review the battery pack video next. Thanks again.
@@austinsmith8010 The PowerCell 8 offers a high capacity with up to 35 hours of parking mode protection for a dual-channel system. It's designed with a rapid charging circuit, allowing it to charge fully in about 50 minutes of driving. Plus, it has wide camera compatibility, making it a versatile choice. The iVolt Xtra is also a reliable choice, known for its durability and performance in powering dash cams for extended periods. Fantastic video. Going to pull trigger on U3000 after your info and answers to questions! In Arizona and need a heat proof solution! Your answers helped me make the decision. And your glasses look great!
I've had the u3000 for a few weeks now. I absolutely love it. My observations (minor gripes): The timestamp is way too small. I have a blinking security light on my dashboard which reflects in the windshield, and will trigger the RADAR parking mode every minute. RADAR mode also got triggered by clouds in the distance lighting up from a lightning storm. That was actually pretty cool. I'm peeved that in playing videos on your phone that you have not yet downloaded they won't play widescreen. Instead they play all squished up, even in landscape orientation. If you turn your ignition off while downloading videos to your phone the parking mode will turn on and kick you off the camera and stop all your downloads. You cannot resume where you left off.
Thanks for the feedback, we'll pass it on to Thinkware as well. You should be able to play streamed footage widescreen, I'd recommend trying another phone for that one. I resonate most strongly with the camera going into parking mode and turning off the wifi, that can be annoying. Though, you may get an extra minute or two more out of it if you don't have the radar parking mode, as that setting does disable a wide range of connectivity features to stay energy efficient.
Thank you, as usual, for the excellent presentation. What amazes me is that there are plenty of TH-cam videos giving reviews about the Thinkware U3000, but they always leave out their tests and real-world experiences with the Rear Dash RADAR. After watching numerous TH-cam reviews of the Thinkware U3000, I'm puzzled about why the reviewers are skipping the evaluation of the Rear Dash Cam RADAR. They seem to just repeat what the manufacturer says, mentioning that the Rear Dash Cam has a built-in RADAR to detect motion or impacts, and so on. Could it be that they are just doing marketing for the manufacturer?
Hey there, glad you liked the presentation! When it comes to showing the Radar, it's something more difficult to show in-action while still making it interesting for Viewers, and many people are familiar with how it works, as the radar module option has been available for the front cameras of the Q1000 and U1000. Still, if you'd like in-depth testing on the Radar and how it functions, check out RCG530's extensive write-up/testing here: dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/thinkware-u3000-testing-review-rcg.49111/
@@blackboxmycar Thank you for your response. It is true that many people are familiar with how the U1000 FRONT Dash Cam RADAR works, but no one is familiar with the U3000 Rear Dash Cam RADAR, which is new. We are all excited about this feature and eagerly await a genuine review. It is not difficult to demonstrate how it works in action and to confirm to customers that it functions as claimed by the manufacturer. However, it appears that you were simply reiterating what the manufacturer has stated. Consequently, it cannot be considered a true "review" as the video's title suggests. In essence, the video seems more like another marketing piece aimed at engaging viewers. To accurately reflect the content, you may want to consider removing the term " IN-DEPTH REVIEW” from the video's title.
Thank you so much for this channel and tutorials on your website. My car just got vandalized while I was on vacation. It costs more to fix the damage than it is just to buy even the most expensive camera on your website
I just purchased my new Thinkware U3000 with rear dash cam and im loving all of its latest features and state of the arts Technology!!! i also added the ivolt external battery to get the best out of the parking mode!
Thank you for the information, Have you tested the Thinkware U3000 Rear Dash Cam RADAR? Does it detect impact? , My U3000 Rear Dash Cam RADAR does not detect any impact.
Nice hair cut, 7:35 that what happen to me yesterday the thinkware connected app said went into ultra saving power mode cause it was 90 degrees outside & probably hotter in the car no wonder you guys recommend thinkware for hot areas. I'm really liking mine there are downsides just sometimes the app takes while to connect to guys helped me out cause i didnt get the spliced cable to get parking mode for the powercell 8 sucks the basic cable doesn't work like that . Another thing the cloud is nice but having thinkware should've copied or something & made their own cm100 so we dont need to get a 3rd party hot spot
Thanks very much for all the hands-on feedback Captain! We agree, it would be very cool for Thinkware to have a SIM slot or CM100 LTE module for their units, from my understanding they are currently testing out similar systems, but have yet to bring it over to North America.
I was going to buy the nextbase iQ, but your review sold me for the u300, especially because of the parking features. I can’t wait to get it and try it out. Thank you
Great review! Awesome gadget. If Thinkware doesn’t offer, can’t you guys manufacture a power cable for connection to a battery that is connected to a 12V socket? In the US, Insurance companies are offering devices that connect to the OBD-II port for a discount and some of us don’t want to mess with direct connection to the fuse box on a leased vehicle. T-mobile also offers a WI-FI puck that connects to the OBD-II port, so for people that already use this port, it would be of value to have another connection option. Just an idea… Thank you for the great review! 👍
Glad you liked the review! While this camera does come with an OBD cable, it also comes with a 12V cable. If you decide to go with a battery pack as well, then our PowerCell 8 or B-130X do also come with their own respective 12V power cables as well. As the Thinkware U3000 uses the same power cables as previous Thinkware models, all of our existing cables to connect battery packs to Thinkware cameras will work just fine!
The obd2 cable is simply 3 wires, yellow(B+) Red(Acc) black(ground) I cut the obd2 end off and hard wired it to my vehicle. Easy-peasy And if I ever wanted to use the obd2 connector, I would just reattach it. No need to purchase anything extra
Thinkware, Viofo, both solid dash cams, but why is almost every auto security shop in NY only selling memento, drone xc, blackview? Am I missing something?
I just installed my U3000. Nice quality! Some thoughts: The voice feature is a waste of computing space - you cant hear it talk to you if you drive listening to the radio... The placement might end up behind your rearview mirror - the buttons on the camera will be hard to reach - you'll have to always move your mirror - since is has Bluetooth, a remote of sorts would be nice. The "Dash Cam Link" app is very lacking - I cant seem to get it set to my time zone - UTC is the only option??? I must be doing something wrong. The owners manual needs more explanation of what all the features are. The lane departure feature seems to be a waste of computing space also - The camera stays on when plugged into the cigarette lighter when the car is turn off - dose this mean I don't need to hardwire to the fuse box for parking mode?
Thanks for the feedback! Let me address some of your points. - The voice feature can be a bit quiet, but can be made louder in the settings - A bluetooth remote is a novel idea! Thanks for the feedback - The time zone should be fully controllable in the settings of the Dash Cam Link app. I understand that there's definitely a learning curve to apps like this, so consider checking out our video on it here: th-cam.com/video/JczwkEqpNtE/w-d-xo.html - I agree that the manual could expand on the settings/features more. We wrote this article to expand on some of these options: www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/our-recommended-settings-for-the-thinkware-u3000-4k-uhd-dash-cam - The lane departure warning does need to be calibrated to your specific vehicle in the settings, and the viewing angle has to align with the live-view angling guides. - The Camera SHOULD NOT be powered to a cigarette socket if the socket stays on when the vehicle is off. Parking mode will not work and the camera will keep drawing power. Consider hardwiring or using a plug-and-play OBD cable. I hope this helps!
Great vid, Sir. I need this dash cam at all cost. But once again i want highlight my only concern, being the security of the dash cam itself. Please help me know if it's equipped with GPS to be tracked when stolen. This is because anything can happen after accident or during parking. No bad person or thief is predictable.
Glad you liked the video! Yes, I can confirm that this unit has built-in GPS to be tracked if stolen. Beyond that, the cloud features can prove useful with live remote tracking and geo-fencing.
Hi Joseph - good review - thanks - however, I’m still not sure about LTE connectivity - does the U3000 have a SIM card slot? Or is a separate LTE unit required.? Thanks. Ally Mac - x
Glad you liked the review! When it comes to cloud connectivity, the U3000 does not have a SIM card, and will rely on a separate wifi source, like a mobile hotspot in the vehicle.
Hi Joseph - thanks for your reply. So basically you are saying that even if I switch my car off - I can still connect remotely through the LIVE view app provided I have internet access via the battery pack and basic parking mode feature - Right? I am asking this again because a few days back I was speaking to the Thinkware rep (USA website) and he told me that there is no chance of viewing the LIVE feature remotely if the car is switched off. He said this could be done on the U1000 but no way possible with the U3000. So that's why I was a bit skeptical and disappointed too but after reading your response was a quite elated. So please do let me know if my understanding is correct on what you explained earlier? thanks again!
No worries. Sorry if it feels like you're getting conflicting answers there. I can state that I've never heard that you can't live-view from the U3000 while parked, and after checking with my sales team, they've never heard that either. To our knowledge, you are able to live-view from the U3000 while parked. Even if this was missing, the U3000's cloud is a very significant upgrade over the U1000, and are not all too comparable. Consider reaching out to our sales team directly for more in-depth replies, and we'll be able to supply more firm assurances.
If someone wanted to purchase the u3000 2ch kit, use the rearview camera as an interior camera, and then purchase a 2nd u3000 to use as the rearview camera, is there a way to connect everything to the obd2 port? Or maybe 2 u3000 cameras (1 for front 1 for rear) and maybe a recommendation for an interior camera?
Quite the complicated setup! A single OBD cable will fully occupy the OBD port, so if you wanted a second U3000, you'd need a second OBD port, if your vehicle has one. Or you could hardwire. In my opinion, it would be much simpler to go with the VIOFO A139 Pro 3-CH, which is a front, rear, and interior setup. If you are dedicated to the U3000, running 2 cameras in the same vehicle is possible, but even then, this model does not have an IR camera, designed for recording the interior. The only thinkware model we offer that has IR would be the F200 Pro 2-CH IR.
Great Video, actually I am about to purchase it, it is really samrt to have the RADAR embedded. My question is, when connecting the cam through obd cable and activiate the parking mode with radar feature, is there any harm on the car battery? Will be any feature detecting the car battery to trurn off the dashcam. I believe this is available in the iroad obd kit. Also, last question :) , can we use iroud obd kit cable?
Hi there, I hope you enjoy the camera! Rest assured that the OBD cable has voltage cut-off, which can be fully controlled through the Thinkware app, it will not fully drain your car battery or harm it. You can use the IROAD OBD cable, but the U3000 does already come included with it's own Thinkware Hardwire kit.
@@blackboxmycar Thanks alot, I just ordered the device from blackboxmycar :) but I notcied the obd cable inside the box has 8 pins while the obd cable from iroad has only 2 pins. I want the least interuption to my car. do you know why the thinkware obd cable has more pins? does it read data from the car other than to get only power?
I searched more, and it seems thinkware obd cable monitors other functions for the car. Can you please test U3000 with iroad obd cable, will it enable the parking mode?
Advantages include reducing glare from reflective surfaces like windshields and water, enhancing color contrast, and improving overall image quality, especially under bright conditions. Disadvantages involve darkening the video overall, potentially making darker situations even darker. We elaborate further on CPL filters here: www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/cpl-filter
The PowerCell 8 provides up to 35 hours of parking mode protection for a dual-channel system. If you're not using a power cell, the standby time will depend on your vehicle's battery and the dash cam's power consumption. Keep in mind that using a power cell like the PowerCell 8 can significantly extend the time your dash cam can operate in parking mode without drawing power from your vehicle's battery. If you have more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
This sounds great. The only thing that is preventing me from pulling the trigger is I'm not technically savvy or a diy person so I wouldn't know how to install the rear camera. Does it go under the headliner? If so, that's going to be a problem for me. Do you know where or if there are businesses out there that would install it for you? Thanks.
Glad it sounds great! The normal installation process does involve us routing the front/rear cable through the headliner. I can't give too much exact advice without knowing the car model, but there are plenty of installation tutorials on youtube here. As for finding someone to install for you, most reputable car alarm or repair shops should have no issues installing a dash cam, even some Best Buys do it, but that's more hit or miss. You can contact our support team (info@blackboxmycar.com) with your location, and we can check our database of partnered installers to see if there's anyone nearby.
Unfortunately the OBD cable is not a pass-through connector, so it would need to be removed if you were using a scan tool, unless it's a pass through scan tool that is. Alternatively, some vehicles have multiple OBD ports.
I don't think we covered the specific functions of the buttons, but I can assure you that it has a big red REC button that you can press to manually save and bookmark important footage.
Yes! This camera is cloud ready, and can have footage backed up to the cloud as needed. The camera will need an internet connection outside of the camera to activate the cloud.
You've mentioned that when using the Power Saving Mode 2.0 and radar, the cloud features are unavailable. Does it mean the camera won't send a notification to my smartphone there was an impact?
That's correct, remote notifications to your phone are a part of the cloud, and will not occur when using the radar. Do keep in mind that the camera will still notify you of events in-person once you return to the vehicle.
This seems like the perfect all around dash cam. I have a Blackvue 750 2ch LTE Plus. Good camera to use. Do we need anything extra for the U3000 to use the cloud features like a SIM card?
Glad you like the camera! Unlike the BlackVue DR750 LTE, this model does not have a built-in SIM slot, so to make use of the cloud features, you would be relying on an internet connection outside of the camera.
So you can’t really view what’s going on with the car with you need it most, that is when you are away from the car and it’s in parking mode. That’s a huge miss.
@@qakbot100 It's not really a miss. It just just take a SIM card for internet access. It has to connect to another hotspot in the vehicle. That way, you can stay connected with your vehicle.
Great informative review. How easy is it to swap to another vehicle after a car lease expires - 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe? And do you think there could be a potential for any warranty issues from a dealership?
Yes, you can swap to another vehicle once a lease expires, but the difficulty of this will depend on how hidden of an install it is. Generally speaking, it's about half as difficult taking it out as it is putting it in. As for dealerships, normally there is no issue with a dashcam, but it's ultimately their discretion so do consult them.
a few questions for you guys 1. which app do i use? theres 3 from my count and im unable to get it to work w the app version used in their ads (unable to scan barcode) 2. How the hell do you setup parking mode? icant get mine out of continuous mode regardless of what setting i selected
1. To use the Thinkware U3000, you'll need the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app for the basics, and then the Thinkware Connected app for the cloud. The Thinkware Connected won't need a barcode from this unit, but will instead rely on a MAC address, which you can get from the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app. 2. Parking mode is set up in the Thinkware Dash Cam Link app, go to dash cam settings -> recording settings :).
@@blackboxmycar I need GPS, speed and other telemetry on the (on the fly) uploaded video as I drive. I drive mainly at night (not uber etc hence 3 ch not a neccesity). The best Parking mode is not a deal breaker as the car doesn't need the best protection. I mainly need highway protection in case of accident and I am incapacitated and unable to secure my SD card or the dreaded insane traffic stop where I am unable to secure my SD card because of one reason or another(read betweeen the lines). I am thinking of thinkware, blackvue and nexxar. Given my previous question which brand or model would you recommend?
Glad you liked it! I can assure you that adding the rear camera does not compromise the front camera's image quality at all, and the front camera is still fully able to record 4k, along with the 2k rear camera.
I didn't see any LTE / 4G capabilities offered with the cam, or any SIM card tray - How is the thinkware connected works ? Only if the dashcam connected to WiFi ?
That's correct, this camera does not have LTE capabilities built-in to the unit. To use Thinkware Connected, you would need a source of internet for the camera, such as a hotspot in the vehicle. Feel free to let me know if you have further questions
Which one does the best in direct heat, ThinkwareU3000 or ViofoA139? I currently have BlackVue DR900x plus, it seems like is always on low power mode due to the sun.
Sorry to hear your DR900X is always on low power due to the sun! The Thinkware U3000 is 100% the way to go for heat resistance! Especially with it's heat-blocking film, and high-heat parking mode.
hey and thanks for the video! 1. Cant he OBD connector craze up the car's computer? (as sometimes happens in car diagnostics) 2. Can it pickup license plates?
The OBD port is used to connect to the car's computer, but the dashcam isn't able to make use of that and supply any data from or about the vehicle. The camera is 4K and can pick up license plates, check out our sample footage for the unit here: th-cam.com/video/cmHRl6LSlQ0/w-d-xo.html
Nice review. I'm planning to purchase U3000. I'm wondering if I connected U3000 to my car battery when it is on parking mode will it damage the car battery fast or not?
Glad the review was helpful! Rest assured that connecting a dash cam for parking mode to your car battery is the most common setup for a dash cam. The camera has voltage cut-off built-in that can be configured as needed, preventing the camera from drawing all that much power from the car battery. With that being said, there is some wear and tear that can be felt in the long-term, that comes with any battery discharging when the vehicle is off. This will only be felt after many years of running such a setup constantly.
Not sure if you guys checked your review unit, but i think my rear radar isnt working as well as the front. It almost never get triggered, i can get it triggered after walking left and right for 20-40 seconds. Thats no longer helpful in my opinion. i saw a couple of amazon review saying similar stories. ☹️
Hey there. We've been hearing similar feedback from users on the Dash Cam Talk forum, and are currently keeping a close eye on it, as is the manufacturer. This is definitely a promised feature of this unit, and we will keep watch of how the manufacturer resolves it.
@@blackboxmycar Many customers have reported instances where the RADAR functionality of the Thinkware U3000 REAR Dash Cam is not operating as expected. Specifically, the dash cam RADAR fails to detect any motions or impacts, leading to concerns about its overall effectiveness. We are keen to know if there have been any recent developments or updates from Thinkware regarding this issue. Have there been any insights or progress made in addressing the U3000 Rear Dash Cam RADAR malfunction? We are eagerly awaiting a solution to this matter.
Can the front cam be mounted on a horizontal surface and just bring the angle of the camera down to level, instead of mounting on an angled windshield? I'm looking to center the camera flat on the underneath side of my collision avoidance equip on a JL Wrangler. I hate having my U1000 to the side, off-center.
If the U3000 is mounted on a purely horizontal surface, the front lens is angled up roughly 10 degrees. The angle of the camera cannot be pushed further down, only about 60 degrees upwards.
Dude what battery pack do you consider using with the camera system? And where will the battery pack be wired to on an 2021 BMW M235i? Cig. lighter fuse using a splitter? Will the rear and front cam be wired up to the power pack?
I recommend the PowerCell 8 battery pack, a reliable and high quality battery. The front and rear camera will be wired to this battery pack, and you can use the cigarette lighter fuse, as long as it has sufficient power for the battery pack, which normally needs 20A-30A worth of power. As for wiring into a BMW M235i, that should be relatively straightforward. If you can't fit the battery under your seats, you can put it in the glovebox, as we've done for this installation: th-cam.com/video/K0IuGLGd-N8/w-d-xo.html
Depends how long you would like parking mode to last. With the built-in radar of the U3000, parking mode will last for 1-2 days off the car battery, or 7-8 off the battery pack. In normal parking modes, it would be 6-8 hours of your car battery on average, or 35 hours off a battery pack.
Great question! The radar sensor for the Thinkware U3000 Dash Cam uses radio waves, not X-rays, to monitor the surroundings. Here's why it works: the radar sends out radio waves, which can indeed pass through windshield glass. When these waves hit an object, they bounce back to the radar. By analyzing these reflected signals, the radar can determine the distance, size, and movement of the object. This is how the U3000's radar can effectively monitor your vehicle's surroundings, even through the windshield glass.
Hi Joseph, have a burning question on the U3000 Thinkware camera which has got me totally confused. Basically, my intention is to view my car, LIVE from any remote location, even when the car is "SWITCHED OFF" (that's the key word). So my question is, if I connect the U3000 camera with a hardwire kit or if I use an external battery, like the ivolt Xtra or Powercell8, which will actually require me in both of the above cases to connect to the fuse box and this will eventually give the U3000 camera a constant power source alongwith having an internet connection inserted in the usb port of the battery, will I be able to see my car LIVE remotely from any location even when the car is "SWITCHED OFF"? Please let me know - thanks, Terence
Hi there Terence. Yes, through the cloud service of the Thinkware U3000, you can remotely view the camera live. This will require a separate wifi source, connect to the battery pack as you've described, and do keep in mind you'll have to stick to one of the basic parking modes, rather than using the radar feature, which disables advanced features like this to be more energy efficient.
great review. i found that Q800pro is suitable for me but i need to know somethings! i bought viofo then i return it. their app is pure perfection but their cams can't handle hot weather so is thinkware cams can handle that? i bought blackvue & then i return it. their cams can handle hot hot weather but their app is a headache & with less features of the viofo app. blackvue app issues are: 1- wifi always on (should be turned on\off by long press or separate button). 2- there is no button to save previous video as a protected event while driving. 3- GPS altitude & longitude not showing in the recorded video. 4- i can't delete protected events because it start reserving storage over time, i have to format the whole storage card! so does thinkware app have those issues?
Hi there, glad you found the review helpful! Yes, the Q800Pro is a very reliable system in it's own right, as are Thinkware cameras as a whole. To answer your questions: 1. The wifi for the Thinkware Q800 Pro will not stay on at all times, and will time out after 5 minutes of inactivity. The wifi can only be turned on manually through the wifi button on the face of the camera, and the camera must be in normal recording mode. 2. The center button triggers manual recording to protect events while driving. 3. Haven't heard any GPS isues with the Q800, very reliable. 4. You can delete protected evens on the card. Thinkware has some very nice memory partitioning settings that allow you to fully customize what is and isn't able to be overwritten. 5. The Thinkware app is reliable.
@@blackboxmycar you are a life saver. thank you so much about the GPS i didn't say it have issues but does it show the altitude & longitude info on the recorded videos next to the rest of the infos like speed, date & time? because this is one the important things to be shown on the video
11:00 Idk how i miss the part on radar parking mode disables the cloud feature but thats a big bummer so what parking mode would you recommend then? I feel both their apps need work but they're less stressful than blackvue's new version but wish thinkware would let us change settings wherever we are
Great feedback! It is unfortunate that radar parking mode disables the cloud, but is understandable given that it allows the camera to remain in a low power state, not possible when it's constantly connected to the internet for the cloud. Impact and motion detection would be a good option with the cloud, as it would given you notifications remotely if needed. It would definitely be very handy to change settings remotely with Thinkware, and it seems like a step in that direction as the Thinkware Connected app lets you power down your camera remotely! It's also helpful that settings can now be changed over bluetooth for Thinkware, much easier than standard wifi.
No worries, hope we made the new experience a bit easier! Yes, I can confirm that parking mode works through OBD, making it an easy plug and play connection.
I want to pull the trigger on this device. However it’s going on a very horizontal front glass. And you said it has a short range of camera angle adjustment.
Thanks Broseph. My windshield is tinted, will I need to use the CPL filter? I don't want to compromise video clarity (especially at night) by using both
No problem! We do not recommend using a CPL filter on tinted windows, they will multiply the polarizing effect of the CPL and you'll end up with some very dark videos. Of course, this depends on how dark of a tint you have on your windshield.
@@blackboxmycar I have clear UV-blocking tint on all windows and I cannot wear polarizing sunglasses because of the color distortion. Would I still need the heat-blocking adhesive pad?
If there's a dash cam for the desert, it would be this one! The low power mode should engage between 131°-149°. Do note that there is a heat blocking film between the camera and the windshield with this unit, so that should help as well. Hopefully we can put it to the test soon.
Hi again Joseph, If i were to choose between the Powercell8 and Thinkware ivolt Xtra battery, which one would you recommend for the U3000 front and rear camera?
Hell again. I'd recommend the Powercell 8. While the ivolt Xtra is a solid battery and can uniquely allow the U3000 to provide additional info on battery health, we've gotten feedback that the additional wiring to provide this can be rather complicated.
Thanks Joseph, Just to give you an update....yesterday I was speaking to the Thinkware rep and he told me that they do not have the powercell 8 - Only the ivolt Xtra and ivolt mini. He also said the ivolt Xtra could only be connected via the hardwire and fuse box whereas the ivolt mini can be connected via the 12V cigarette lighter which does not require a fuse tap and fuse box connection. Simply just plug and play. I really like this plug and play method as I prefer not to go into the fuse box. But then its a tradeoff between the number of hours, no usb port connection, no app and no further battery connection if required in future with the ivolt mini. So not sure why they do not have a cigarette lighter connection for the ivolt Xtra. Anyways, does the Powercell8 have a 12V cigarette lighter connection? If yes, would I need to purchase any additional wires etc for connecting with the U3000? Will this battery be suitable for the U3000 front and rear dash cam and will the cigarette lighter be OK to draw the 12v current to ensure the powercell8 battery is fully charged as well as the original car battery is not compromised in any way with the cigarette lighter connection? Please advise, thanks!
We've never heard any information or even speculation that Thinkware is selling driver data in any way. We've heard speculation that some other brands that require a constant connection to your phone do sell user data, but we definitely do to carry them.
Hi there! Yes, the Thinkware U3000 does indeed have live view functionality available. This feature is part of the Thinkware Connected cloud services that come with the U3000. It's worth noting that while the live view feature is very useful, it does require an active internet connection for the dash cam. This might impact the dash cam's power consumption, especially in parking mode. If you need more detailed information about how to set up or use the live view feature on the U3000, don't hesitate to reach out to our support team. They can provide step-by-step guidance tailored to your specific setup.
That's a great question. The good news is that you get the best of both with the U3000, as it's base resolution is 4k@30fps, but you can switch to 2k@60fps if you prefer. 4k can help in busier, lower-speed situations, but higher fps can help when you need to pause things frame by frame, such as sideswipes on the highway. We go more in-depth on this topic here: www.blackboxmycar.com/blogs/news/4k-or-60fps-which-is-more-important
How can i tell on the thinkware connected app that the car is in radar mode? It sometimes says safety or low energy on the top left corner of the box with the picture of a car. 2 minutes into parking mode its goes into ultra power saving mode but when i turn the car on its at 14.6v and my cutoff is 12.2 do i have a defective unit?
You state at 5:53 that the rear camera uses a USB-A type, but this is not correct. Can you please state what type o connection is used for the rear camera? Im looking to use a 90 degree plug to adapt, so the cable is better tucked away. Is it Mini-USB or Micro-USB or USB-C ? Please advise..
I went on your guys website and stated that the OBD wasn't compatible with my vehicle (2017 Ram 3500) do to the security . Would i need to buy the hardwiring kit then ?
Hi there. Yes, sometimes there are vehicle incompatibilities with OBD cables. A hardwire kit is a very comparable alternative, yes. If you are worried that it will be more complicated, then most reputable car alarm or repair shops can complete the install for you. Alternatively, you can consider a battery pack, which could supply all the benefits of parking mode, but would be plug and play to the cigarette lighter adapter of your vehicle.
Since they need to be mounted close together on the windshield, would the Radar system in this device set off a Valentine One Radar detector if you’re running one in the car? Similar question, does it cause a false V1 radar alarm if a passing vehicle is using one?
Good question! So since the radar sensors of the U3000 only operate when parked, there isn't that much of an issue with these signals conflicting. I spoke to one person who had this where when they turned off their vehicle there was a brief moment where the radar detector blared from the U3000, as they overlapped. but updating the firmware of the camera and putting a parking mode delay of a minute fixed it, in the U3000 settings.
Thanks for the reply. I understand that the radar feature when parked wouldn’t affect at V1 if it’s off, but I was also thinking about the features that run when you’re driving. Such as the lane departure, forward collision detection, vehicle departure warnings & such. Not sure if those features use radar that would interfere with the V1. I did email Thinkware and they said I will have no issues.
Yeah it's actually very useful when you need to transfer files and realize how expensive data can be when running multiple security systems at once. It's a must have. Most police will give you a micro SD to down load onto. You u pop it in download and now you got all you need. Or say you want to edit some cool views, just download to SD, transfer as to camera or labtop and edit away. Best to have hard copies, digital transfer is never as reliable, an often dose not upload or is lost.
To monitor your vehicle when others are driving, consider adding an interior-facing camera or adjusting your dash cam to include the instrument cluster. An interior camera can capture the inside of the vehicle, including the dashboard, and a GPS-enabled dash cam can track speed and location. Does the wifi or bluetooth work while using car play? What are your thoughts using it on a pickup truck? And what are your thoughts of this system vs a wolf box system? Primarily for dash cam and parking mode? Thanks
Since both carplay and the camera function as a wifi source, you cannot use both at the same time. With that being said, you only really need to connect to the camera when reviewing footage or changing settings. This camera is a good option for pickup trucks. I don't think this camera is really comparable to the basic wolfbox systems. Especially when considering the radar parking mode and advanced features. Parking mode for this unit will last drastically longer than the wolfbox ever could.
Hi Please what setting do I need to put my U3000 to be able to view my car remotely on connected app. I have got a battery pack. I know it has got a radar. Thanks for your video
Hi there, glad you liked the video. There is quite the process to get the Thinkware Connected up and running for Thinkware Connected. To start, ensure the internet setting in the system settings is enabled, and follow our guide here: th-cam.com/video/q12GzbN0IXE/w-d-xo.html
Not yet for these models unfortunately. It's quite difficult to create something that will fit so many different vehicle models, which is why BlendMount carries so many different variants for different vehicles.
@blackboxmycar I understand that. But Blendmount and a few other brands have already made rear view mirrot mounts. They simply make different adapters to accommodate different devices. The rear view mirror mounts themselves, for different cars/mirrors, are already designed and available, for the most part. What I'm suggesting isn't as complex as designing a new rear view mirror mount or highly customized device mount, such as Blendmount's prior Blackview device adapters or even their radar device mounts. Rather, it may be the simplest device adapter yet, a simple plate that (screws into the rear view mirror mount and) allows for the (3M) adhesive pad to be adhered to it rather than the windshield. Something like that could accommodate these tamper resistant adapters and a wide range of, typically, windshield mounted devices. I would think BlackBoxMyCar may have enough influence to have Blendmount consider such a plate or, failing that, could develop their own. Heck, a handy individual could buy Blendmount's BM-SP-0004 or other such spare part, cut a plate to size, bend it in a break, drill some holes, do some black anodizing, and have a very popular product. I'm thinking Blendmount would be better off making such a plate, or plates, available rather than having some other entity bring it to market, but if they won't maybe y'all should...
It's because of how energy efficient the radar makes the camera, while those advanced live features draw significantly more power, making the radar redundant. You can still use these live features when in standard recording mode though!
Yes, the Thinkware U3000 allows you to adjust the image quality settings to help with issues like overexposure and noise. You can switch between Standard and High options, which may help manage the exposure levels. Additionally, checking the positioning of your dash cam can also make a difference, ensuring it's not directly facing strong light sources, which can cause overexposure. If you're still experiencing issues, you might want to explore the settings further or consult the user manual for specific adjustments you can make. Yeah...the U1000 can be rather chatty! With this model you can disable the voice without disabling the sound, and the intro monologue is shorter, but it's not quite as customizable as we'd like.
hello a question disturbs me on the rear camera of the u3000! where is the rear radar sensor because on my pickup my window is completely vertical which forces me to completely tilt the objective of the lens to view the rear it seems that the radar sensor is on the side of the lens would require me to put an adjustable support to be able to adjust the inclination
Hi there! The Radar sensor for the rear camera is on the side of the U3000 rear camera, and is the reason it is so wide. The lens can be rotated as needed for a vertical rear windshield, and the radar should still work fine, though it may be best to double check with Thinkware directly on that one.
If you're looking for advanced features and much longer parking mode, the U3000 is the way to go.If you're just looking for top-tier image quality, A229 Pro.
I have the Viofo a139pro and it has connectivity issues and the interior port is bad on it. I'll be returning because of these issues. How does the u3000 compare to it?
Sorry to hear that has been your experience with the A139 Pro. The Thinkware U3000 does have much firmer cables, along with a receded port in the rear camera, so the wiring will be much more reliable. As for the connection, since this camera is mainly bluetooth, that allows the connection to be much more seamless, and much easier.
Hi there, yes, the Thinkware U3000 dash cam does automatically overwrite the oldest videos when the memory card is full. This feature is known as loop recording. It ensures that your dash cam continues to record without interruption by replacing the oldest footage with new recordings. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out to our support team at info@blackboxmycar.com or chat with us via Live Chat. We're here to help!
Unfortunately, no and yes. The U3000 and U1000 have different front/rear cables so it would need to be changed. The U3000 rear cable is thicker than the cable of the U1000.
The Audi UTR? Can't say I'm too familiar with that unit, but from a brief overview I don't see a radar or anything similar in that unit. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken.
@@blackboxmycar Yes The Audi UTR and the Audi UTR 2.0, both have radar assisted parking mode in front and back. Problem is, you have to get it from an audi dealer and cannot buy it directly on the internet.
Very informative review. I will be purchasing the U3000 for my next vehicle within the next month. I need to review the battery pack video next. Thanks again.

@@blackboxmycar PowerCell 8 or the iVolt Xtra battery cam?

Glad it was helpful enjoy the camera!
I've had the u3000 for a few weeks now. I absolutely love it. My observations (minor gripes):
The timestamp is way too small.

Thank you for your response.
Glad to hear you're enjoying it 🤩. Battery packs are definitely super helpful with this camera.
Thank you for the information, Have you tested the Thinkware U3000 Rear Dash Cam RADAR? Does it detect impact? , My U3000 Rear Dash Cam RADAR does not detect any impact.
@@mohsenalharhara8729 I read that Thinkware confirmed that ALL u3000 REAR RADAR CAMERAS DO NOT WORK AT ALL IN RADAR MODE!
Thank you
Glad to hear it! Enjoy the camera and feel free tor each out if you have questions.
Still using it?
Great review you guys are the best
Thanks so much!
The obd2 cable is simply 3 wires, yellow(B+) Red(Acc) black(ground)
I cut the obd2 end off and hard wired it to my vehicle. Easy-peasy
And if I ever wanted to use the obd2 connector, I would just reattach it.
No need to purchase anything extra
What are the two memory cards about? Where does the big one go?
Thinkware, Viofo, both solid dash cams, but why is almost every auto security shop in NY only selling memento, drone xc, blackview? Am I missing something?
I just installed my U3000. Nice quality! Some thoughts:
The voice feature is a waste of computing space - you cant hear it talk to you if you drive listening to the radio...
The lane departure feature seems to be a waste of computing space also -
The camera stays on when plugged into the cigarette lighter when the car is turn off - dose this mean I don't need to hardwire to the fuse box for parking mode?
Thanks for the feedback! Let me address some of your points.
- The voice feature can be a bit quiet, but can be made louder in the settings
- A bluetooth remote is a novel idea! Thanks for the feedback
- The time zone should be fully controllable in the settings of the Dash Cam Link app. I understand that there's definitely a learning curve to apps like this, so consider checking out our video on it here: th-cam.com/video/JczwkEqpNtE/w-d-xo.html
- I agree that the manual could expand on the settings/features more. We wrote this article to expand on some of these options: www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/our-recommended-settings-for-the-thinkware-u3000-4k-uhd-dash-cam
- The lane departure warning does need to be calibrated to your specific vehicle in the settings, and the viewing angle has to align with the live-view angling guides.
- The Camera SHOULD NOT be powered to a cigarette socket if the socket stays on when the vehicle is off. Parking mode will not work and the camera will keep drawing power. Consider hardwiring or using a plug-and-play OBD cable.
I hope this helps!
Appreciate the review. I’ll be getting this one.
Enjoy the camera :D
@@blackboxmycar What’s the average installation time for one?
Normally 1 hour for a front-only, and 2 hours for front and back
Great vid, Sir.
Thanks so much Joseph. Really appreciate it!
What mobile hotspot do you recommend so i can connect to camera to see the live footage? I purchased tmobile hotspot...not working very well
How to use battery pack for U3000 without hardwiring it?
What settings to have the highest quality for capturing moving cars. Thank you
If someone wanted to purchase the u3000 2ch kit, use the rearview camera as an interior camera, and then purchase a 2nd u3000 to use as the rearview camera, is there a way to connect everything to the obd2 port?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using the CPL Filter that comes with the U3000?
Advantages include reducing glare from reflective surfaces like windshields and water, enhancing color contrast, and improving overall image quality, especially under bright conditions. Disadvantages involve darkening the video overall, potentially making darker situations even darker. We elaborate further on CPL filters here: www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/cpl-filter
@@blackboxmycar Thanks for sharing that great resource in the link!
Great video! I saw the chat you have for standby time with power cell. What is standby time with out power cell?
Does the OBD 11 plug have to be removed if a scan tool has to be plugged in, or is it a pass through connector?
Unfortunately the OBD cable is not a pass-through connector, so it would need to be removed if you were using a scan tool, unless it's a pass through scan tool that is. Alternatively, some vehicles have multiple OBD ports.
Did you hit on what the buttons do that's located on the dashcam itself? Does it have a record or save clip important clip button?
I don't think we covered the specific functions of the buttons, but I can assure you that it has a big red REC button that you can press to manually save and bookmark important footage.

Unfortunately the Multiplexer is not compatible with the Thinkware U3000
What about the cloud is it backed up to the cloud?
Yes! This camera is cloud ready, and can have footage backed up to the cloud as needed. The camera will need an internet connection outside of the camera to activate the cloud.
@@blackboxmycarhow does internet function part work during traffic? Do I have to connect it via my phone?
can it upload to the cloud in realtime?
You've mentioned that when using the Power Saving Mode 2.0 and radar, the cloud features are unavailable. Does it mean the camera won't send a notification to my smartphone there was an impact?
That's correct, remote notifications to your phone are a part of the cloud, and will not occur when using the radar. Do keep in mind that the camera will still notify you of events in-person once you return to the vehicle.
Said that the Powercell cant be used with an OBD cable. Is that the case with all dedicated dash cam battery packs?

Is the issue fixed ?
Would you all recommend the external battery, or just connect to the car battery? The priority for me is the parking mode.
Depends how long you would like parking mode to last. With the built-in radar of the U3000, parking mode will last for 1-2 days off the car battery, or 7-8 off the battery pack. In normal parking modes, it would be 6-8 hours of your car battery on average, or 35 hours off a battery pack.
How does the Radar in the camera work? Because normally only X-rays and radio waves can pass through glass.
@@blackboxmycar Thanks!
I wish it would support a 3C option for an in cabin camera
Thanks for the feedback! It's very rare for Thinkware to offer interior recording cameras, BlackVue and Viofo tend to offer more of that.
This will require a separate wifi source, connect to the battery pack as you've described, and do keep in mind you'll have to stick to one of the basic parking modes, rather than using the radar feature, which disables advanced features like this to be more energy efficient.
great review. i found that Q800pro is suitable for me but i need to know somethings!
i bought viofo then i return it. their app is pure perfection but their cams can't handle hot weather so is thinkware cams can handle that?
i bought blackvue & then i return it. their cams can handle hot hot weather but their app is a headache & with less features of the viofo app.
blackvue app issues are:
1- wifi always on (should be turned on\off by long press or separate button).
To answer your questions:
@@blackboxmycar you are a life saver. thank you so much
about the GPS i didn't say it have issues but does it show the altitude & longitude info on the recorded videos next to the rest of the infos like speed, date & time? because this is one the important things to be shown on the video
Thank you for the video. Can this be used with the multiplex to add side view cameras?
Unfortunately the U3000 is not compatible with the Thinkware Multiplexer, we recommend using the Thinkware F200 Pro with the Multiplexer
@@blackboxmycar thank you for replying!
Im new to this. Does the parking mode work if it is in OBD port only. If not what does OBD do?
No worries, hope we made the new experience a bit easier! Yes, I can confirm that parking mode works through OBD, making it an easy plug and play connection.
@@blackboxmycar is this compatible on a 2016 lexus ct200h hybrid, will use OBD port
I can confirm that there should not be any issues with this vehicle using OBD.
I want to pull the trigger on this device. However it’s going on a very horizontal front glass. And you said it has a short range of camera angle adjustment.
Ah, very understandable! As long as the front windshield isn't purely vertical, this unit should still manage!
Radar may not work with metal based window tinting. My rear radar does not detect even if I wave my hand in front of the glass.
Hi I’m looking for in cabin camera what would be my options? Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated
The VIOFO T130 or A139 would be great options, the BlackVue DR770X-3CH as well if you want a sleek and discrete system.
What temp would be too high for it to go into low power mode ? Because I am here in the desert 🏜 avg temp is around 155f on my windshield.
Does Thinkware sell your driving data to Car Insurance companies? And if so, does it give you an option to opt out? Thanks.
We've never heard any information or even speculation that Thinkware is selling driver data in any way. We've heard speculation that some other brands that require a constant connection to your phone do sell user data, but we definitely do to carry them.
Does this have a live view available?
Is having a higher resolution at 30fps better than 60fps+ at 1080p? If I need to get a clear image of the license plate of a moving vehicle.
Are there only front camera available ? For cabriolet … thx
The U3000 is available as only a front camera. You can find it here: www.blackboxmycar.com/products/thinkware-u3000-4k-uhd-single-channel-dash-cam
Apologies for the typo, we have corrected this in the description of the video, specifying it is. The rear camera cable is Mini-USB.
Mkbhd got this for his new Porsche
Micro USB in 2023???????????????????????????
Yeah it's actually very useful when you need to transfer files and realize how expensive data can be when running multiple security systems at once. It's a must have. Most police will give you a micro SD to down load onto. You u pop it in download and now you got all you need. Or say you want to edit some cool views, just download to SD, transfer as to camera or labtop and edit away. Best to have hard copies, digital transfer is never as reliable, an often dose not upload or is lost.
is there a way to record your instrument cluster, I always am worried that the dealer tech are taking my car for a joy ride
To monitor your vehicle when others are driving, consider adding an interior-facing camera or adjusting your dash cam to include the instrument cluster. An interior camera can capture the inside of the vehicle, including the dashboard, and a GPS-enabled dash cam can track speed and location.

Does parking mode work if you don't have an external battery and you're just hooked up to the OBD2 port?
Yes, it most certainly does!
I was looking at the wolf box 900. That’s their 4k front 2k back. It has parking mode.
@@blackboxmycar Not sure what that last sentence meant....youre saying the wolf box is better or at least the G900? or the U3000?
Is it possible to track the car location remotely using their cloud service U3000?
This is fully possible! You can also set up Geo-fencing, so that when the vehicle leaves pre-set areas, you are notified.
Hi
Please what setting do I need to put my U3000 to be able to view my car remotely on connected app. I have got a battery pack. I know it has got a radar. Thanks for your video

Do you still need to hardwire if you use the obd 2?
You should hard-wire the system. OBD usage will eventually drain your battery.
Will guys create a spliced cable to connect the u3000 to battery back pack?
Since the U3000 uses the same power cables as all of our other Thinkware models, our existing spliced cables will work great!
Is anyone making an adapter plate to use this with a rearview mirror mount (like Blendmount) yet?
Thanks for the feedback, quite the idea! We mainly stray away from heavy R & D that such an idea would require, but I will ensure this idea is heard.
@11:00 that sucks man 😔 I really wished i can use live features whilst rader is ON
It's because of how energy efficient the radar makes the camera, while those advanced live features draw significantly more power, making the radar redundant. You can still use these live features when in standard recording mode though!
If I steal power from the rear view mirror the parking/radar mode still works?
No, since the camera requires a3 3-wire connection to be informed when the ignition of the vehicle turns on and off.
looks like this camers image getting overexposed, can see granny noise,is there setting inside to lower over exposure??
Yes, the Thinkware U3000 allows you to adjust the image quality settings to help with issues like overexposure and noise. You can switch between Standard and High options, which may help manage the exposure levels. Additionally, checking the positioning of your dash cam can also make a difference, ensuring it's not directly facing strong light sources, which can cause overexposure.

My one gripe with my U1000 is the long monologue it goes on upon start. Does the U3000 still talk for a long time when you start the car?
Yeah...the U1000 can be rather chatty! With this model you can disable the voice without disabling the sound, and the intro monologue is shorter, but it's not quite as customizable as we'd like.
Is there a way to add an interior camera to the u3000 2 ch setup?
There is not an interior camera option unfortunately.
Is it clear at night with tint on rear window?
Yes, the camera still records great night footage through tinted windows
hello a question disturbs me on the rear camera of the u3000! where is the rear radar sensor because on my pickup my window is completely vertical which forces me to completely tilt the objective of the lens to view the rear it seems that the radar sensor is on the side of the lens would require me to put an adjustable support to be able to adjust the inclination
Hi there! The Radar sensor for the rear camera is on the side of the U3000 rear camera, and is the reason it is so wide. The lens can be rotated as needed for a vertical rear windshield, and the radar should still work fine, though it may be best to double check with Thinkware directly on that one.
