As a french, I have to say that anyone thinking the Rafale is better than the F-22 is blinded by their pride. Both aircrafts have different goals. The F-22 is one of, if not the best air dominance fighter, while the Rafale aimed for a more versatile approach, being able to carry a lot more tasks than the F-22. Where the F-22 does not shine, the Rafale does, same goes for the opposite.
As a French too, thanks for putting into words exactly what I've been meaning to tell for ages! Both are very capable aircraft, they just don't serve the same purposes..
@@ig-anzros01 From what I have seen it can do plenty of incredible nose turns, through its superb design, avionics to control the flight surface perfectly and of course its 2d nozzle.
@@ICECAPPEDSKY the Navy usually writes out their own project since they put their emphasis on slightly different criterias - the F35 was the 1st attempt of generalizing the needs of all branches in one plane. Also the F22 is really not that big of a bully by todays standarts anymore and a good amount of planes like the Su 35, EF or Su 57 can take the F22 on in a dogfight. Due to the Stealth it still excels in BVR fights but stealth is not nearly as strong as it seems in all the DCS videos and with radar systems everywhere getting more and more sophisticated it's more of a radar range limiter than a invisibility cloak these days.
@@bluefox9436by most estimates, an S-400 missiles system radar is not able to track an F-22 until it is about 35 miles from it. If a radar array more powerful than what any fighter jet carries can’t see a raptor until it’s that close I don’t think any fighter jet would be able to track a raptor until it’s too late, even with IRST due to how the raptor reduces its heat signature and it’s engines are hidden internally.
I live about 5 miles above the take off runway here in Honolulu. There is a squadron of f22s that I watch take off. They fly over my house to land. Extremely impressive when they shoot straight vertical. Good job.

The fact that the raptor can pitch without speed is such an advantage, you don't need to take gravity and stalling into account nearly as much, it just slid behind the bandit's tail in the first one!
There is a whole breakdown on CW Lemois (something like that) channel about this training. Pilot skill and experience matters a ton but no aircraft is undefeated in training scenarios. A-10s used to humble rookie F-16 and F-18 pilots all the time.

The whole point of the F-22's existence, it's whole "raison d'etre," if you will, is to make every average pilot into an ace... Sure, it's always possible for a truly superior and experienced pilot (and that level of experience is traditionally very hard won) to exploit some weakness with some stronger point of his or her own aircraft and/or tactical position, which is why the Raptor is designed to give away as few weaknesses as possible. It's just good everywhere. In fact, better in every regime of flight and combat than just about anything else flying or contemplated. And some regimes (6G turns at 60,000ft, at Mach 1.2, anyone? Bueller..?) it has almost entirely to itself. But! There's only about 180 of the things.
Having been in the Military I can tell you a lot of times training scenarios aren't about "winning" they about instilling confidence in the weapons and tactics you are using. So sometimes the "target" is informed to not perform at the the best of its ability to give the "enemy" confidence. I comes down to "If you think you can do it, you can."
Keep in mind, that old video of a Rafale winning against an F-22 was in a limited performance old Rafale F1, ages away from today’s Rafale’s capabilities and when pilots where just transitioning to the Rafale and hadn’t yet much experience with the aircraft, or even the Rafale F2 capabilities. So props to that pilot👍🏻 An no, the Rafale didn’t start in the F-22s six, the starting in front of each other and engage after the merge as explained back then.
I love how even though the specs for the F-22 are completely unknown, in this sim, it flies very close to the real thing. You look at it from externals and it just looks like the laws of physics that command other airplanes are commanded by the F-22

In all training exercises with the f22, they specifically tell the pilots to not fly the plane to its fullest potential. The pilots have to go through hours of retraining afterwards to instill proper f22 tactics. Raptor pilots hate doing joint training exercises for this reason.

(Cants pull as high of g's engine power limited, radar cross section bigger) so that the full capabilities remain classified even to our allies. This limiting of abilities actually became a problem as the pilots were becoming less proficient with the f-22 with prolonged flying alongside allies lol

No pomp, no fluster, just...what is happening as it is happening. It is clear, concise and very easy to follow, always reminding me what a one or two circle fight means is greatly appreciated while also giving a lot of respect to the other pilots that you fight against. This combined with the excellent content overall makes it very enjoyable to watch your videos, I’m glad I randomly stumbled across your channel on TH-cam a few months ago.
He’s done quite a few AV-8b vids, viffing included. I don’t even play dcs, just an avgeek with a few hundred hours of seat time, but GS has taught me so much about BFM/ACM I’ve been able to hold conversations with actual fighter pilots. Grab a beverage and get to binging, he’s got the knowledge and persona to keep you entertained for weeks.
The harrier is one of my favourite aircrafts after the spitfire. I’m fairly new to the channel so I haven’t had chance to check out his back catalogue yet so I’m glad to hear there’s some jump jet content. Thanks guys 😊

Got the feeling that the footage of the "dog fight" was nothing but TRAINING, which explains why the 22 never did anything "radical" to escape lock or trying to position his own shot.

From what I heard, the F22 Raptor was lit up like a Christmas tree just so the Rafale could even pick it up on it's radar. lol Both the Rafale and the Eurofighter are just newer versions of the Mirage fighter jet. It's like the Europeans are stuck with that dorito chip design for a fighter jet. lol

9:38 Rafale has a pretty strong fuselage. It got dozens of 20mm hits and an aim-9x a few seconds later... And still it does not disintegrate.

With the way the f22 can bleed energy, it can force an overshoot from most planes. It's just risky for training in terms of violating the bubble
