  • A Customer sent in their Brand New MSI GF63 8RC Laptop to my office for me to upgrade the SSD and add in a HDD. I made this video to show how both drives on this laptop could be upgraded and, at least in korea, how they are meant to be upgraded by professionals.
    SSD:
    Western Digital Blue SN550 250GB: amzn.to/39TuYnC
    Western Digital Blue SN550 500GB: amzn.to/3qIcVYa
    Western Digital Blue SN550 1TB: amzn.to/2KJQLFI
    HDD:
    Seagate Barracuda 1TB 2.5": amzn.to/3qIcTzw
    Seagate Barracuda 2TB 2.5": amzn.to/3iHqLYa
    Ram:
    Samsung 8GB Laptop Ram 3200Mhz: amzn.to/3jqk2lF
    TeamGroup 16GB DDR4 3200Mhz Laptop Ram: amzn.to/3oOs1Ko

Thank you so much for this! You're so calm, clear and informative. I hadn't even noticed the hard drive bracket that was in the bag with the manuals!
Edit: Had to come back just to praise you more, you are SO good at showing everything and not leaving anything out by accident just cause you're used to doing it. Bravo, honestly.

Thank you so much for posting this video! I just added my SSHD in yesterday and I can’t tell you how glad I am that you brought up a lot of details.
In particular, it got a little bit scary propping open the case because the board was getting stuck to the ports! Luckily, you brought this up and said to open from the other side and, voila, it opened up quite easily.

In case you all had an HDD/SSD failing and want to buy another one and don't know which one (NVMe, SATA) or which length (2280, 2260...etc), I've been there, and had to learn it by myself. FOR M2 PORT... I upgraded this same model laptop with an SSD. This laptop has a M2 slot with a M Key port, which is compatible with both M2 SATA and M2 Nvme. As for the length, u can go with 2280, (or smaller as far as i know). Thought I can help you all, I was really confused before doing the upgrade, did some research, photo references, learnt a lil bit about the SSDs, HDDs and M2 ports... and there you go. Hopefully you will find this comment

    • @gifeight
      @gifeight 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@yourdad4903 the hdd slot is not a m2 slot. the m2 slot is the rectangular form of SSD (like the rams), the hdd slot is bigger and more squarish u can easily spot it on the mother board. If u a want an SSD in that HDD port, it has to be MSATA, as far as i know 2.5 inch. NOT M2

This laptop is fairly easy to mod. The only downside with laptops is. The graphics chip is on the motherboard so you can't upgrade those. However. This laptop has a lot of great reviews and from what I see. With the gtx 1650. This laptops graphics can be compared to xbox 1x and pspro. This would be a great buy for on the go gaming. Yes desktops are a lot better on performance but I can at least game on my downtime at work. Win win 🙌

I have an MSI GS63 laptop. Where to find which SSD and HDD models will fit in this computer? You used the Crucial ones, and I am keen on knowing right specs for my computer. Q2. Once you replaced the 128 GB SSD with 1TB SSD, how did you reinstall the software on 1TB? Can you please have a video on this? or send a link if you already have? Will greatly appreciate. Q3. I know you may have solved this already, but for future reference you can actually perform the task you requested in any computer. Here is how:
      1) If it is an option, you perform a function called drive cloning. It requires a specific program and some are free. But the free ones are often very confusing to new people. A good example is CloneZilla. It also requires a usb memory stick(around 16gb should be fine) and a 2nd memory device for the copy(clone) of your drive. But the the recipient drive has to be larger than all the memory in your drive you are making a copy of. Lets say your Windows drive is 100GB. You would have to use a something larger, like 128GB for example.
      2) The other option is if you don't care about the contents of your old drive, you can buy a Windows installation package from a store like BestBuy. Go to such a store and tell them you want to buy a windows key with the usb stick. Its around 150-200usd retail. You get the activation key on a paper that looks like a credit card and a usb stick that will install the operating system to the new drive. If you turn off the wifi and not use a internet cable(called an ethernet cable or RJ45). You can choose at the installation process "I don't have the internet" and make whats called an Offline Account. That will bypass making a Microsoft Account and you won't get as much advertising on the OS.
Just be careful about CloneZilla. It is a fantastic bit of software, but its mostly text base and very confusing to people, even professionals. Look up tutorials or find a clone program more user friendly like Paragon.

My old dell studio 1737 laptop has an expandable 2.5 hdd slot. I think i will need to buy brackets as well. But what I've been looking for and havent found others to have the same situation I have. There doesnt seem to be a simple sata interface for my hdd or sata ssd to install to. There is someplace plastic component that protrudes from the mother board that looks like it would be where you would connect the interface but, it isnt. Am I suppose to be a sata connector for the mother board?
    Hope that makes sense haha.

Too bad the customer didn't opt for a RAM upgrade cause it would really help to get dual channel memory config. But thanks for the video!
