For those who have this question: When you adapt a Nmve (PCIe) to an standard SATA conector, the speed of the Nmve will decrease to te maximum of a SATA III speed, wich is 600mb/s.
Thanks for the technical description of each one. Something to clarify, using NVMe drives has a higher performance because it uses the PCIe bus lane. The CPU can access this bus lane faster than on a SATA specification.
the difficulty I had understanding yr words with yr thick accent was more than made up for by your to-the-point, consise, well detailed explanations with lots of visuals an examples. Well Done, and thank you
I already know about these by reading a lot of blog, spec sheet and watching many TH-cam videos. BUT your video is summary of all. (With the exception of 3.5" SSHD). BRAVO!
Easy enough. If you can support NVME try to find a good module on sale. I remember when a CD-ROM drive was $300 (that one could not write either) now you can get then dirt cheap if you search enough
watched a few other breakdowns yet still the confusion between PCIe and NVMe grew more and more as i have a high end but somewhat one or 2 gen older laptop but wasn't sure what type it supported till i watched your video so thank you. NVMe is the one i need to get -
Finally! A video that explains it all! Thank you! And an added bonus where I was also going to look up how to convert NVMe into 2.5 SATA for cloning my OS. You sir, are a saint!
there is no use of using NVMe in a SATA adapter as it SATA has AHCI interface and the NVMe card is made for PCIe interface. SATA has limit of 6Gbps. so it is bettter to buy SSD sata drive for cloning metal drives.
@@ellwalenndhejunny3229 It doesn't matter what is inside the box. The whole thing is determined by the connector to the computer, in this case it's SATA. So you only get SATA quality and not (as suggested) NVME quality. So that at least this "project" can work, the box must have the ability to translate NVME to SATA and vice versa what always goes on cost of speed performance. In the end you won't have even full SATA speed or the box is that much high in price for a hardware coded solution to get the SATA speed goal. Mostly it's an software emulation, i think. Just my 2 pence.
A little late, but in case anyone asks the same question today. You are probably better off getting an NVMe to USB adapter. Those are also the base for many external SSDs and absolutely prooven and cheap technology. I much prefer USB for such purposes because I can also use my Notebook to recover stuff from my PC.
Excellent video. No mention of the PCIe 4.0 or the diffrence between x2 and x4 connections but I think most people care more for the connector types. Nice that you showed both the BIOS & the adaptors. It would of been nice to see a PCIe adaptor card for NVMe, and maybe the USB-C drives you can also throw them into. - excellent work.
Umm . . or to see the choices for their existing gear, ability to upgrade or not, using a backup older p.c., , Keep in mind we all got along fine 10-15 years ago.

Thanks for the video. I just purchased a new laptop last week that has an M.2 NVMe drive and it loads things noticeably faster than my previous laptop with a 2.5" SATA 3 SSD. I was wondering why that and your video explained the differences nicely.
Really helpful in understanding the difference between M.2 NVME and M.2 SATA. The laptop I got my son has M.2 SATA but I was unsure of compatibility differences, before watching your video.
Thanking you for creating this video. Excellent video, especially on the difference between M.2 connection for SATA and NVME SSDs, as well as various connections for different SSDs.
