In my young 20's I didn't appreciate disco or the Bee Gees so much. That has really turned around for me in the last 15 years, and there are probably a good number of boomers that have had that transition.

Robin has lead on bunches of songs, especially from the 60’s. Massachusetts is an example as well as I started a Joke. His twin brother Maurice ( pronounced Morris) is singing falsetto on the live version, but Barry does it on the recording. They all have fantastic range Barry has a soulful deep chest voice and his falsetto. Robin has an ethereal bravado, Mo is just all around talented and played bunches of instruments and mainly does backup and arrangement, but he does have some lead songs that are great as well. He preferred to be in the background. A Haunting version of Ellan Vannin done by Robin and Kings Collage Choir is fantastic ( the song is the official song for the Isle of Man ( where all three of the brothers were born).

From left to right: Maurice, Robin (twins) and older brother Barry. A beautiful song sung by Robin is ‘I started a joke’……Maurice died in 2003 and Robin in 2012. There was a younger brother, Andy, who sadly died when he had just turned 30, I believe in 1988.

Robin is the one with no beard Robin sings leads on many songs. Maurice is Robin's twin he also sometimes sings lead and Barry is the eldest. For whom the bell tolls really features Robin and Man in the Middle features Maurice on lead. They literally have over a thousand songs on their playlist.

Robins voice, to me is the greatest! Maurice, is the true secret weapon, he wrote down all the music for the BGs on guitar or piano. He could always find whatever harmonies they needed. He could sing anything. Of courseI love Barry. Who doesn’t? But nobody ever looks at the other 2... the true secret weapons for theBeeGees!!

As they said about Maurice :
He was a secret weapon , always hiding behind his brothers , always quiet and a multi instrumentalist, multi talented , the 3 of them plus Andy were incredibly singers , they used to walk the streets of Miami just like any other citizen , without body guards some times , used to do their own shopping and if you greeted them all tried to talk and say hi , they always set hello , very simple men that were real Geniuses in disguise. Awesome
Real talented Musicians and great singers . Rest in Peace :
      Andy , Maurice & Robin.
May God bless you and protect you Barry , Bee Gees we’re Unique .

None of the Bee Gees could read or write musical script even Maurice! They had no musical education at all. To use their words it was all 'organic'. They would speak of a note being an A or G etc because they could all play keyboard and guitar (self taught/friend improved) but show them a stave with dots on and that was all it was to them. Making them all the more amazing.

Barry, the oldest, and doing his chest voice. Robin, the first twin,, who has an angelic vibrato. The second twin is Maurice/"Mo" (pronounced Morris) and he's a multi talented "harmonist" and plays many instruments. He was also the band leader. He did "ad libs" on this song, when they played live, and on their song "To Love Somebody", but otherwise it was Barry on the studio version. In fact, this very song is where Barry discovered he could do falsetto AND for an entire song! Their producer Arif Mardin wanted to put in-key 'screaming" towards the of the song and asked which of the brothers wanted to give it a try and Barry volunteered. He went on to being known to have one of THE BEST falsettos ever!

They have been writing since the late 60s. They wrote a song for Ottis Redding to sing what Ottis didn't have a chance to sing it because he died in a plane crash. Beside singing great they are great writers. Robin is a talented writer and has a unique voice. They have written for Diana Ross, Barbara Streisand, Diane Warwick, Dolly Parton, Celine Dion and others I can't remember right now but I will let you know. You should listen to "'Love is so right", "Fanny be tender with my love" and "Too much heaven". Maurice writes, as well as Barry. They awesome!

If you haven't reacted to Fleetwood Mac yet, that would be the vid to get you started. Stevie Nick's vocals were off the chain and the whole band was actually on fire that night! Saw your surprise when Barry came out with his low voice. Robin is the middle and Mo ( Maurice, pronounced Morris) is the one doing the falsetto on this live. On the album it is Barry doing the falsetto, but he can't do both at the same time live. They can all do falsetto, but not sustained, Barry can do a whole song falsetto and even hold a note like that a long time. This is the 1st song that Arif Mardan, the producer at the time, asked someone to scream in tune, they were doing ad libs so Barry said he'd give it a try and everyone in the booth sat up and kept telling him to do more of that and so the mid to late 70's sound was created. As you can see Barry's voice ranges from the chest voice here to his falsetto in too much heaven, etc. They write their own songs and have written for other folks too. They have been covered and sampled by bunches of folks as well. The other brothers have great range of voice as well. They all play instruments too. But they have had no formal training! Amazing!

Most of falsetto-voices on many songs were done by Barry, so he's been able to sing it powerful and also with vibrato. @@lauraallen55 , I agree with you, and I appreciate another listener and appreciater of multiple genres of music. I like stuff from the 50s until today, but I must admit that my love of music is mostly concentrated between 1965 and 1980. Sure, there are truly magnificent songs on either side of those dates, but that era Just "grabs" me like no other. I'm 54, by the way.

My favorite group of all time. They kept their music updated over the years, although I preferred their older songs. Robin is my favorite, his voice is so unusual. Robin does the lead on a lot of their older ones. Try The Jocker

This is a great song. Robin is the one singing with Barry and Maurice was who sang the falsetto Robin and Maurice are twins. I love the Bee Gees they have always been a part of my life it has been a privilege to have lived in this music era. There were many great singers that were good but the best ever was the Bee Gees. Enjoyed your reaction. Just to mention I saw your reaction to Al Green singing How do you Mend a Broken Heart which was a good rendition but it was written and sung by the Bee Gees fyi.

Nights On Broadway is my favorite Bee Gee's song!!!! Robin's voice is sooo amazing. He recorded 6 or 7 solo albums. I'd love to see you react to his version of "Love Hurts." The Brothers Gibb wrote hundreds of songs for themselves as well as other artists. Even more amazing is that none of them could read music.

    • @kthor

Barry's voice is also amazing, & he sings first lead on this. Mo & Barry also helped write Robin's solo albums.🎵
Edit: Mo & Barry helped write Robin's three 80s solo albums.

      @@kthor - Nobody said Barry's voice wasn't amazing.
Barry did not write any of "How old are you" which had the only solo hit ever by a Bee Gee (Juliet) written by Maurice and Robin and produced by Maurice. Barry had no input on "Robin's Reign", "Magnet" (except one song) or the beautiful "50 St Catherine's Drive" and had nothing to do with "The Titanic Requiem" as played by the National Philharmonic.
As for this song, much of it is sung concurrently by Barry and Robin together with separate lead bits by both but that's nit picking.

The Midnight Special was on from Feb 1973 until May 1981, & was a 90 minute program which followed the Friday night edition of The Tonight Show Starring Johny Carson. The lady who introduced The Bee Gees was Natalie Cole, the daughter of Nat King Cole (she passed in 2015). Burt Sugarman created & produced the weekly special…..& is also the husband of Mary Hart (if anyone knows who she is?😂). Was just a great great show to tune into every Friday!!👍
