On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 12-10-23.
We're looking at a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in Autumn Gold Paint. The car comes with the 396 CI V8 Engine and a 4 speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Gary Dinges. Gary’s just purchased this car today. Gary shares he’s been trying to buy this car for years and former Owner Bill Butler has had this car since 1971. Well years back Bill parked the car (as you can see) and he knew it needed someone who would restore the car, and Gary is the new proud Owner who will be the next Caretaker.
Hopefully we’ll have an update on what happens next, so stay tuned.

My buddy Curt in high school had one of these which he swore was a clone, and this was 1982 or '83. If his car was an SS clone, it was a good one. It was all Cranberry Red with no stripes (can't remember if it had the Cowl Induction pop-up or not) and a black buckets/console/TH400. And the column collar moved with the floor shifter.
"Those of you who know these cars will understand..." Excellent video! A real Christmas treat! Especially seeing it all cleaned up. I never would've guessed the top was black - gold and black vinyl is one of my favorite color combos on '60s to early '70s cars. Looks to me like it could be spot-repaired and paint-corrected, thus preserving the majority of that original paint. I see it's a Kansas City car with a 5500 redline tach - and I've never seen those little 'buckets' on the console for holding the seatbelt clasps! I do see the SS grills and tail light and front turn signal lenses.
Raining? I would've donut'ed that turn-around. Actually I'd've been leery of driving it on wet, potentially salted, roads - unless the body is coming off of the frame - which that car might not need. Maybe Patrick Glenn Nichols himself will document that car!

Thanks for the video. Super nice car. A lot of people don’t realize that these cars are way more desirable when they’re retaining as much is possible of their original condition. It looks like it could be fixed up a little bit but hopefully the guy doesn’t go overboard with the restoration like some people do.

Incredible story of how they found this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in a barn! In truth, it is quite contrasting to see how it was, compared to the shiny and restored models that we are used to seeing on your channel. It was curious that after so many years of not seeing the light of day, the Chevelle is loaded and transported in a Chevrolet tow truck, hehe. Just with the cleaning and the respective oil and battery changes (among other things) this is looking very good! Everything is coming to life again, both in its beautiful golden paint and inside (although you can still see the occasional cobweb haha). That final ride in the rain was spectacular, and how this Chevelle ran and roared, as if trying to say "I'm free again!" Congratulations to its current owner, after searching for it for so many decades! Nice final message, Lou; and have a Merry Christmas with your loved ones!

I'm glad Gary finally got his dream car. I have met Gary more than a few times at Vaessen Brothers Chevrolet. They have been in business since 1926 with the same family ownership. I have been taking my vehicles there for about 25 years or more. They are a good Chevy dealership to do business with.

I guess I'm old being I remember buying them in mid 80's for $500 and making circle track race cars out of them. Great video. Epic save of a very neat car. If mine I'd keep as survivor. But congrats to new owner and absolutely do as your passion desires. (And what a gem when restored) edit- spotting the era mods such as the intake with offset carb is truly fantastic.

1970 in my opinion is the best of all the Chevelle SSs and the gold paint with the black vinyl roof is perfect for that body style. I hope he only treats the rust to stop it and keeps what little patina that's there.

I owned the same 1970 car back in 1981 when I was 19. The only difference was mine had the black stripes and somebody switched out the 4 speed to an automatic . It was a fun ride that I have regretted selling for years

I had a 70 chevelle malibu, nothing matching, sold to a friend in 92, he has still, went from mi to Louisiana, had some fun, didnt know what i had then!

Again I'll state I'm not a fan of GMs, and have only owned 1 GM vehicle my entire 67 years, a '60 Impala, 2 door hardtop. I always said if I ever owned a 2nd GM it would be a '70 Chevelle. I guess I kinda did because the original reason I bought the '60 was because I had a LS6 and 4 speed from a '70 Chevelle hanging in the shop, and that front angle and side view of that '60 hooked me as much as any other vehicle has.
This '70, I wouldn't restore beyond stopping any rust on the body, underside, interior, clear coat the paint, make it 100% dependable driver, drive and show it. I wouldn't even remove the Dymo label off the dash.

Nice original paint car in fantastic shape, stripe delete, no hood pins, looks like 350hp high rise cast iron intake and day 2 improvements with headers❤ interior looks mint, cool tie in with his dad buying it in the end all these years later

My uncle had the same car back in the day. Same color only with an automatic. He really wanted a 4- speed but the insurance would have been too much. He previously had a 68 Z-28 302.4-speed. Those were the days!!!

God Bless you, your 100% correct its all about Jesus Christ and trusting Him as our Lord and Savior and back in the late 80s I had a numbers matching 70 SS El Camino 396 4 speed.
