I watched a video by a Chicago student, Shea Glover, where she told people she was taking pictures of things she thought was beautiful and filmed their reactions.

I decided to recreate this video, but put teachers behind the camera as they told their students how important they were to them.
In the end, the purpose of the video is to remind teachers how important what they say is to their students and use that opportunity to build strong positive relationships with them.
Yes, this video duplicates the main idea, structure and shots of Shea's video. That was on purpose.

Jeez. I have to be honest, if one of my teachers would had ever said something like this to me, it would have really meant a lot.
I have been doing a course this year and the tutors told us more than once that we were the best class they had taught. (part of it was that we all contributed to getting them cakes on their birthday's the first time a class did that for a tutor there).

totally agree. my school never did it so i honestly did not give a shit about it. i dropped out at the age of 16 (currently 18) i found school pointless and a waste of my time. but HEY... they are just my opinions everyone has their own,

OH Dear Shea you are amazing. The people who made this video too. Positive influence is something rare in our modern societies. Acts like this one make us to remember that no matter the mistakes we made, we are human beings and deserve respect for that. I'm not saying that it's not a good thing. I'm just saying that if my teacher ever came up to me and started videotaping me, telling me that I was one of the reasons he came to school happy...I'd defineately call the principal.
Maybe I just encountered too many weird teachers, that could be true. But I'd find this extremely uncomfortable, as a student.
I think that's a good point. There are definitely students that make me want to school each day that I wouldn't tell that, because I know it would make them feel uncomfortable.
I would just let them know in less direct ways. I think that just part of knowing your students.

this is amazing and great experiment but i think this will be so upsetting if the knew that this words was only for making a youtube video.
It actually only made our relationships stronger! All the students loved being a part of the video, and it made them feel special. Some of them read the comments, maybe they'll chime in.
I am the one speaking to the first two students and a couple during the silent part, and I will honestly say those kids are really important to me. When I brought the idea to teachers, I wanted them to pick students that when they said it, they meant it. I hope that comes through in the video.

I was just thinking about what the other students thought when they heard about it and weren't ask to take a picture of them. I mean it's clearly beautiful how they react, but I think it's important that everybody hears that from anyone. So please people let your beloved ones know that they are important & don't miss anybody. Cause everybody is important and beautiful. I hope that somebody tells you that from time to time or even every day. Have a nice day :)
I commented about this in a reply to another poster regarding the first part of your comment.
The feelings of the students NOT in video were definitely something we discussed during the process of making this video.
And I had one of my former students come up to me after the video came out and said "Oh, I guess I'm not important since I wasn't in the video!"
Now, she said it mostly in jest, but I could tell there was some true feeling of that in her voice. That gave me an opportunity to talk to her about how important she was to me.
It's also important to know, that just like other relationships, there are going to be teachers/students that you connect with more. I care about all my students, but there are just some students that I just really connect with. I hope all students find that teacher at least once in his/her academic life.
+Next Level Plans I truly understand what you mean talking about connecting with one better than with others, but I just felt instantly sorry for those who maybe had the thoughts like that girl. It is very courteous you thought about it before filming the video so that you do know what to say if a conversation like with that girl comes up. I mean I just hope that when there was somebody telling his friend about that he wasn't in this video and how he is feeling about that his friend told him the same as you did in the video: he really is important. To at least that friend. Anyway I really liked the 'original' and yours too! Thanks for the response by the way :)

it's so beautiful when they have hard faces then it turns to an uncontrollable smile or laughter.
No one has ever told me that I was important, but if someone were to do that I would start crying

If you film everyone and tell them that they're special or important or whatever, then doesn't that become the norm, and thus it is no longer special and important?
I think there is some truth to that. But, the point of the video was not to have everyone go tell every person they that the are special.
It was just a reminder for teachers to be careful what you say, because it can have an effect on students, so, use that opportunity to say something positive.
They were different teachers these are students that are important to each teacher

why shouldn't it be the norm. society tells us what the norm is. make your own norm. everyone deserves to feel important. every single person.❤

I would like to say that what is more important than the words, is the teacher that is speaking them. I can see something in the eyes of every student.....and that is respect. The teachers that are saying this words... are those very special teachers that each and every day they do there utmost to bring out the very best in their students. When a student hears a comment from a teacher of this quality it does mean a lot to them. Congrats to the teachers of El Dorado High ... you are making a difference...keep it going and thank you for this wonderful video !

lmao my school kinda did this. The end of the first semester my freshman year of highschool (a week ago), all the teachers hand-wrote notes of encouragement to every freshman & sophmore, and handed them out to each student and gave us all high-fives, and a shitton of speaches from each teacher about how great we are to them.

I wish my high school teachers were more like this- or at least a bit kinder. They wondered why I skipped classes so many times- they made me feel absolutely useless. Words really do make a impact of people no matter what age they may be, my teachers made me absolutely useless; only one of my teachers from my last year of high school actually really spoke to me who made me feel as special as these teachers did.
I really hope some teachers and people in general learn from this and spread positivity around, kids and teenagers these days can feel so worthless and useless so easily. 😔😔

This video hits me in 2 different ways.
1. it makes me happy that teachers are telling their students this.
2. I have never had these words spoken to me. I have never had someone tell me that I am special to them.

I am sooo going to do this with my students at some point... It brings so much more respect and self esteem, and make them understand that teachers aren't just "lesson givers" but are also human beings who dedicate their days to educating them and making sure they have the tools and informations that they need to have a good life.
I had a backup teacher and anytime I put my hand up she would ignore me and ask if other students needed help this went on untill the end of the lesson. I nearly cried but I tried to stay positive.

This is a great video, can you imagine if all people were like this? The world would be an amazing place. I respect everyone who is kind to others, it's rare to find these days. I'm in high school and have been bullied very often, I don't have any friends and am known as the "loner". Everyone ignores me and judges me because of my shyness. I feel like no one has given me time to get to know me... I have been called ugly and felt worthless before, but seeing a video like this really made my day. I hate to see good people be bullied, it really annoys me. How could anybody have the urge to be so rude? This video restored my faith in humanity.
