Yes it should!! Especially at the Middle School level - that's when girls start to lose their confidence and when "fashion" and "beauty" start to be the major factors in their lives. They need to know that they are beautiful without the $250.00 jeans or manicured nails with rhinestones on them. They need to know that they don't have to spend any money to "look beautiful" - that they are beautiful just as they are because their personalities are glowing, or because they are kind to everyone. If we can get away from the superficial ideas of beauty (the clothes, the makeup, the nails, hair, etc.) and start to comment and compliment all kids - not just girls - on their inner beauty, maybe there will be fewer depressions, anxieties and suicides. I'm old enough to be the kids in this video's grandmother and yet so many of them made me wish I was in their school so I could be their friends. They seem like the kids that were missing in my own school at that age.

The pain I went through in high school reflects in some of these kids. The sheer level of insecurity and belief they're ugly; the lack of any praise or compliments from peers or parents is palpable and it brings me to tears.

Yes it should!! Especially at the Middle School level - that's when girls start to lose their confidence and when "fashion" and "beauty" start to be the major factors in their lives. They need to know that they are beautiful without the $250.00 jeans or manicured nails with rhinestones on them. They need to know that they don't have to spend any money to "look beautiful" - that they are beautiful just as they are because their personalities are glowing, or because they are kind to everyone. If we can get away from the superficial ideas of beauty (the clothes, the makeup, the nails, hair, etc.) and start to comment and compliment all kids - not just girls - on their inner beauty, maybe there will be fewer depressions, anxieties and suicides. I'm old enough to be the kids in this video's grandmother and yet so many of them made me wish I was in their school so I could be their friends. They seem like the kids that were missing in my own school at that age.

That it's the clothes that someone wears, or the fact that their body is perfectly shaped from exercising, or their makeup makes them look like a paid model. That's exactly what this experiment was trying to get away from. Instead, they were focusing on people from the INSIDE - what their personalities were like or their treatment of other people. Beauty comes from within; it isn't the superficial outer covering that someone purchases to disguise themselves as someone they aren't.

Dude who said “my skin”…whew. A lot of people may not understand how hard it is being a black or brown kid in those type of predominately white environments. It’s easy to feel unworthy & unloved. That hit me personally. All of these kids are beautiful and I hope they’re all doing well.
