I am talking about competitive scene not the in game scene.
@@m24213 Great after its mega? It was already good before it's mega. Lol It got even better when it got Chlorophyll. It's mega is nice of course but it was pretty damn good long before it got a mega.
For everyone that said Serperior got carried by Contrary: Look at Malamar down in NU and Lurantis in PU.And also the thing can still carry itself without it.
That’s obviously because Malamar and Lurantis have worse stats than Serperior. Serperior is mostly a speedy tank that can sweep, while the other two are just terrible.
Serperior being good is a combination of speed, Glare, and Contrary. If it had low speed? Trash. If it didn’t have Contrary? Trash. If it didn’t have Glare? RU at best. (Wouldn’t be able to run SubSeed sets, and would be limited to a fast sweeper which isn’t great because it’s coverage is literally Dragon Pulse and HP.)
Sometimes abilities can carry a Pokémon with bad stats and make it a top OU threat, and sometimes it results in things like Regigigas. GameFreak is a cruel mistress. We’ll never know what to expect next
I actually found Serperior amazing even before Contrary. It’s a fast yet fairly tanky Pokémon, which is already unusual. I gave it Substitute and Leech Seed and it walled things for days. It also had Leaf Blade (it had a -special attack nature, it was my starter) which did decent damage and occasionally got a critical hit, and Aqua Tail vis move tutor to deal with Fire types, which also got extra power in rain. Though sometimes I ran Aerial Ace instead to deal with fellow grass types. So he was really good in singles, but he was even better in doubles. Instant rain from Politoed boosted his Aqua Tail and negated his fire weakness, and since he wasn’t seen as big of a threat, a lot of the time I could get some good Leech Seed/Substitute up while my opponent went after another teammate. So I would say Serperior was pretty good in Gen 5 as well. As a side note - I never knew that Serperior could learn Calm Mind or Defog. How interesting.
Serperior will always be the starter i pick in gen 5 and she never let me down when i heard she had contrary as a hidden ability in gen 6 i tried competitively breeding for one and again she never let me down on what ever i put her in She's competing both darmanitan and Reshiram as favorite gen 5 pokemon
I would normally say that Serperior’s movepool would hold it back (and on Choice sets, it did), but overall, it had just the right tools in just the right places to be a damn good mon after Contrary hit the scene. Now if only Chandelure actually got Shadow Tag...

Absolutely nothing, according to Serebii. Even if it got back in gen 8, it would be UU, considering it has no coverage outside dragon pulse. It could run a supporting set, though, and a good counter to Sticky Web teams
My favorite starter that is also the base of my breeding legacy, it's too bad i can't bring it to SS unless they add the entire Snivy line in the upcoming expansion.
I just watched Meganium before work and was about to search for Serperior, but I had to leave. Would have been real disappointed if I had to leave 20 minutes later. I would have swore you did a Serperior vid already. Contrary is my favourite ability. Put in so much work with Choice Scarf Malamar with Close Combat in gen 6 OU and UU. Edit: I would also sometimes run a trick room team that used -Speed natures but not just the slowest mons across the board with Galvantula or Shuckle for getting a sticky web off on a magic bouncer whenever possible to make my team slower for trick room shenanigans.
I saw a lot of people saying that Serperior ir carried by it's ability, but i think these people don't know Shucke, Malamar, Spinda and Lurantis have contrary too. Serperior is a combination of very good moves when along some good stats and a ability that just fits in perfectly. Serperior was one of the mons that gave me much problens when i started playing competitively back in 2015. I was just a girl and played with the mons i like the most, with a tean of Sticky Web Shuckle paired with a monstruous Scope Lens - Focus Energy Kingdra and that tean was incredibly funny. Well, i used a Sticky Web against my friend Serperior and he aways won our matches. I miss that time
Only difference is that those other Pokemons with Contrary have awful stats and they don't have an attack moves that normally had an effect that lowers it's stats without Contrary ( examples like Leaf Storm or Drago Meteor ). Serperior not only has better stats than them, but it had an attack move that effectively decreased stats without Contrary.

@@albabimam1114 To an extent, Venusaur had some niche, though there's the inevitable competition with Victreebel.
What it does have: better bulk, especially on the physical side, higher Speed (relevant for not having to risk a Speed tie with Cloyster or opposing Victreebel).
0:17 I didn't know Naruto could evolve into Serperior :O
A better title would've been how superior was serperior actually :P
How serperior was serperior actually *
Not in VGC
Gotta love Jim Sullivan for using a starters only team and getting 15th place at Melbourne Regionals 7:19
Competitive pokemon is full of stories of people who love a pokemon and find creative ways to give them the team support they need to shine and it's always uplifting to see
I've always wondered what would happen if something like Infernape, which can learn Overheat and Close Combat, got a Mega Evolution with the ability Contrary.
"Chandelure has entered the chat".
Imagine Contrary Turtonator. :3
Smogon wielding the Almighty Banhammer: Don't even think about that.
Do you want to watch the world burn?

5:40 you can't just use the phrase "run train" like that 😭😭😭
Bruh moment
Snivy was the first grass starter i stuck with ( when i was a kid i picked chikorita but it sucked and i gave up and reset for totodile lmao) and i absolutely adored serperior and it got even better in bw2
Fun fact:Blaze Black 2 & Volt White 2 Redux (a hackrom) makes it part Dragon Type, which means it also gets Draco Meteor...
Just something to think about...
Ah the royal snake. Definitely one of my favorites of the later gens.
Huh, Serperior has hands. Folded behind its back, just noticed.
When it relies on vines to Knock Off, you can't say that those are hands. More like dress decoration.
@@jeremyfaure1888 They're the arms it used to have as a Servine, but they became vestigial due to reliance on vines and special-attack. If you look at the evolutionary line, you can see them get smaller and thinner as it evolves from Snivy.
Yes, Ken Sugimore confirmed this in his Nintendo Dream Magazine interview. You can read them on lavacutcontent (dot) com in English
That the thing about Serperior. It can win matches with its arms tied(folded in this case) behind its back while still looking majestic.
@@DivadRovert Not smaller, it's just like Azumarill's tail: The arms didn't grew while evolving. Still, what happened to their legs?
oh boy i sure do love my opponents getting their special attack lowered when they use leaf storm. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS
Broke: How good was Serperior actually? *Contrary joke*
Woke: How good was Serperior actually? *JAMIE BOYT*
Wow, 7:20 Jim Sullivan actually used a full starter pokemon set.
Legit my favorite starter :) thanks for the work you put in these videos!
Serperior is the final form of the scariest Pokemon to ever exist. Challenging Snivy is like staring death in the eyes while you're still paralyzed.
"Since they got rid of Hidden Power, they'll give it something right? Right? RIGHT?"
*Pokemon Home Datamine intensifies*
Watch it learn Mystical Fire and Close Combat lol
Might get Weather Ball
Absolutely nothing, according to Serebii. Even if it got back in gen 8, it would be UU, considering it has no coverage outside dragon pulse. It could run a supporting set, though, and a good counter to Sticky Web teams
@@user-pp6pr5fg8w Hurts my soul.
Well it's an good thing it didn't make it to Gen. 8. And it's at least not quite as mediocre or bad as Meganium or Sceptile.
I nicknamed my Serperior Smugleaf
Next week I’m guessing Emboar and Samurott
Mine was Smugsnake
Mine is kingsmug
Mine is Snively.
Just look at Snivy. :3
I remembered it wrong. I named mine Snootsnake.
ngl i never had issues with Serperior. I'm a huge serperior fan but the guy really is creative with serperior man like damn.
Meganium and Serperior sitting in the worst grass starter room.
Serperior: *Get's Contrary*
Serperior: Aight imma head out
THEY’RE BACKK
My favorite starter that is also the base of my breeding legacy, it's too bad i can't bring it to SS unless they add the entire Snivy line in the upcoming expansion.
I concur with that comment.
FINALLY MY FAVORITE POKEMON! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!
I have no clue what your talking about but it's fun to listen to
Tera Fire or Fairy Serperior with the usual moveset (plus Tera blast instead of Hidden Power) and ability might make a comeback a month from now.
I’ll do you one better with 3 words, Stellar Tera Blast!
Happy Unofficial Official Serperior Day everyone.
I know Serperior with Contrary is a great sweeper and difficult to dealt with if it is in opponent's side
*Kept you waiting, huh?*
-Solid Snivy
7:18 seeing an "All starter" pokemon team (the Kanto trio plus Johto, Unova and Kalos) is kinda beautiful in its own way
One of the few Grass types GameFreak didn't screw over.
Thank Arceus. ~_~
I wonder if Serperior could have an Ubers niche if it gets into gen 8.
Dynamax after a Leaf Storm boost. Truly a terrifying thought.
Wouldn’t dyna neuter contrary? Since it buffs your stats every attack you’d reverse snowball
@@june9914 Max Overgrow merely sets grassy terrain
FINALLY! I’ve been waiting for this one for a LONG time now. Best gen 5 starter!
sure. ok
Bulky Serperior in Battlespot singles was always fun.
