And now Garmantian is back to being one of the best pokemon in ubers thanks to the ability to break the common necrozma-d, Yveltal, and Eternatus core thanks to Earthquake and Icicle crash. So it now has an A+ ranking on the Ubers viability rankings.

Fun fact: in Japanese, Zen Mode is Daruma Mode. Daruma refers to a doll, which is why Unovan Darmanitan takes that pose in Zen Mode. It also makes Galarian Darmanitan’s Zen Mode make more sense, for it turning into a snowman/yukidaruma means that it is still a Daruma mode.

When I went on Pokemon Showdown, I was surprised to find G-Darm in ubers. I hadn't been interested in the meta much, so I wondered why it was good. Many people thrashed my team using it, so I finally researched. When I saw Gorilla Tactics, I realized everything.
Disregarding the Rampardos theorem, it's still crazy that a pokemon as destructive as Darmanitan got power crept so hard. Though Gen 5 was so unbelievably self-contained that It makes sense that newer toys would cause stat inflation in the game.

dude i love darm so much. i used him as an Ash Greninja killer. i used max speed and choice scarf since his attack stat is already so high it didn’t matter. If you out speed the greninja you OHKO it with u turn. such a good pokémon.
I wonder - if Darmanitan had 135 base attack and 100 base speed instead of 140/95, would that have been enough to get it into Gen 5 OU? Sure, it has piss-poor defenses, but since Pokemon is a game of inches, that extra speed might have made the difference, and 135 base attack is still terrifying, especially when backed with Sheer Force.
the problem is that it is stealth rock weak AND it's most/only spammable move causes 1/3 of it's damage as recoil (which is usually a lot because of the 140 attack). Fire is also a "weird" type defensively because even though it has statistically more resistences than weaknesses, the weaknesses tend to hurt a lot. It kinda is another example of the "Rampardos Theorem"
@@IschmarVI True, but normal Darmanitan isn't putting _all_ of its eggs into the Attack basket. 95 Speed is still good while Rampardos' 58 speed is pathetic, and its 105 HP gives it enough bulk to handle recoil from multiple KOs worth of Sheer Force-backed Flare Blitz. I mean, as it said in the video, NOTHING in UU could switch into it with Sun up, and it was just fast enough to out-speed most 'mons when it was sporting a Choice Scarf. That said, it's absolutely STELLAR in the single player journey in the first B&W game. You can get its pre-evolution Darumaka before the third Gym along with the eventually-excellent Sandile and RU mainstay Sigilyph, giving it plenty of time to grow into the offensive monster it was born to be, assuming you can work around Darumaka's Hustle ability.
I love monke, the begging of gen 8 was hilarious because people would run max HP max defense room heat to check it and still lose to it because of a single flinch

It was good in the lower tiers. It's just that it has pretty much nothing else going for it besides being a powerful attacker
I guess it's just the extreme stat distribution made it very hard to slap on; still I assume if you're a low-percentage player it's perfect.

well, at least it works in playthroughs. The only downside is that you have to get past the 80% curse of its preevolution.

That'd benefit Galarian Darmanitan. Unova Darmanitan's Zen Mode too slow to outspeed a lot of Pokemons with +1 speed.

When I went on Pokemon Showdown, I was surprised to find G-Darm in ubers. I hadn't been interested in the meta much, so I wondered why it was good. Many people thrashed my team using it, so I finally researched. When I saw Gorilla Tactics, I realized everything.

Disregarding the Rampardos theorem, it's still crazy that a pokemon as destructive as Darmanitan got power crept so hard. Though Gen 5 was so unbelievably self-contained that It makes sense that newer toys would cause stat inflation in the game.

dude i love darm so much. i used him as an Ash Greninja killer. i used max speed and choice scarf since his attack stat is already so high it didn’t matter. If you out speed the greninja you OHKO it with u turn. such a good pokémon.
I wonder - if Darmanitan had 135 base attack and 100 base speed instead of 140/95, would that have been enough to get it into Gen 5 OU? Sure, it has piss-poor defenses, but since Pokemon is a game of inches, that extra speed might have made the difference, and 135 base attack is still terrifying, especially when backed with Sheer Force.
the problem is that it is stealth rock weak AND it's most/only spammable move causes 1/3 of it's damage as recoil (which is usually a lot because of the 140 attack). Fire is also a "weird" type defensively because even though it has statistically more resistences than weaknesses, the weaknesses tend to hurt a lot. It kinda is another example of the "Rampardos Theorem"
@@IschmarVI True, but normal Darmanitan isn't putting _all_ of its eggs into the Attack basket. 95 Speed is still good while Rampardos' 58 speed is pathetic, and its 105 HP gives it enough bulk to handle recoil from multiple KOs worth of Sheer Force-backed Flare Blitz. I mean, as it said in the video, NOTHING in UU could switch into it with Sun up, and it was just fast enough to out-speed most 'mons when it was sporting a Choice Scarf.
That said, it's absolutely STELLAR in the single player journey in the first B&W game. You can get its pre-evolution Darumaka before the third Gym along with the eventually-excellent Sandile and RU mainstay Sigilyph, giving it plenty of time to grow into the offensive monster it was born to be, assuming you can work around Darumaka's Hustle ability.
