    Great video, Kim! The one I have trouble with is buying for the actual life I have, not a fantasy version of it.

      Haha! Welcome to the club! Myself included. I bought a floral princess dress...that I love (I’m still glad I bought it) but...hmmm where to wear it! Only in my land of unicorns and 🌈. I’m going to have to manifest a garden party :)
      So don’t worry, you are not alone. Try to use a few of these rules to rule out the fantasy, can you wear it three ways in your fantasy life ;)

      I agree! It’s hard for me to imagine myself wearing the clothing the model is wearing!!!! I also had a high style profile and felt like I couldn’t wear clothing that wasn’t nice! I love these tips though!

    I am a big believer of keeping a wish list of needed or desired items and also the cooling off period where you put stuff in the cart and then sleep on it!!

      I call it the walk away test.

  • @randijohnson3806

    When I was in my early 20s and having to really pare down my budget I started taking a lap around the store once (without shopping!) before making my purchases. I realized it gave me the time to consider if I really needed what I had put in my cart and double check that I didn't have something too similar already. I do something similar shopping online. I'll add it to the cart and then walk away and consider what I put in there. So often I discover that I've filled my cart with things very similar to clothes I already have and love-which is why I was drawn to it! I also find when I can't stop thinking about it, I know it's something I really do want and I am even happy to spend a little more in that case. While this all stemmed from needing to take control of finances, it's really served me well to pay attention to what I'm putting in my closet.

    • @KimXO

      Thank you for sharing! This is great advice. Taking a lap or a break shopping online will definitely give you some perspective! I love it!

    I like the purge advice. Since January I have been going left to right in my closet wardrobe, wearing each item that comes next no matter what. I should add that I do a purge every season and only have Winter clothes out right now. I note how I feel when I wear it, and if I have any negative thoughts wearing it, then I'm donating or selling it. Because I'm home alot now, I can wear literally anything I want, so there's no pressure to dress for work. What I'm finding is that I love almost all of my clothes and it's exciting to wear whatever is next in line! ( All my clothes are color coordinated and it's crazy timing but right now during Valentine's I'm at the pink section!.I really like this process because previously I gravitated to the same clothes. It sounds extreme but it's been a really cool experiment and I have nothing to lose!

    • @KimXO
      @KimXO  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is amazing! I was doing that with my clothing too, forcing myself to try it on, wear it and make a video (Reel) on IG with it. Enjoy the pink section and thank you for sharing! Great tip and just going through from Left to Right and also noting how you feel in the item! Love it! The energy it carries is important 🌸🦋✨ Kim xo

    It is so wonderful to see this video today. With covid lock-down I have been watching more TH-cam and all the fashion video (current not old) keep saying you need this, you need that, this trend that trend.. My first thought it always, where are you expecting to wear it, we are not supposed to be going anywhere, we are in lock-down. Secondly, I am not certain as many individuals have as much or any disposable income. I feel influnecers and TH-camrs need to be a bit more responsible. People are depress and perhaps are impulse buying based on the "You need this" quote I am seeing in so many thumbnails. I applaud you for focusing on what "We don't need". Thanks!

    • @KimXO
      @KimXO  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! I hear what you are saying and happy I can help :) I don’t know about other TH-camrs but I know I received emails from viewers and subscribers asking me to go back to talking about trends etc because it’s an escape for them. They just want to watch with a glass of wine and forget about what’s happening the world for 10 minutes. So I do do both, but I try to balance. I’ll do a trend video then one like this to give encouragement as well!
      Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for saying hi and sharing!

    I’m so guilty of all of these mistakes now that I work from home full time and rarely leave the house 😫 I’ve been trying to play dress up with my own closet whenever I see a cute outfit on IG. Do I have a floral skirt, sweater, and boots to recreate that outfit? Good, then I don’t have to obsessively search for items just like the photo. I also leave all my online carts for 24-48 hours to see if I think about them again - surprise, surprise, most of the time I don’t buy the items :)

      Yes! When I was in my late 20s and early 30s, I bought glamorous clothes for a fantasy life that I'll never have. I was actually able to wear some of them because they were fairly flexible, like a little black dress. I remember one, though that was so over the top that it would only work for a formal event in a big city, but I live in a small midwestern college town. Now that was wishful thinking!

Whenever I buy new clothes or get new clothes as a gift my mind tends to already think about what clothes I already own in my wardrobe that I can style something with. So I don't really have to think too much about this since I do this unconsciously already! XD

    Any advise for someone who always regret getting rid of something when decluttering later on? I still regret getting rid of some items many years later and now I just refuse to get rid of anything

    • @KimXO
      @KimXO  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm I get that. I’ve done it myself actually with a one of a kind designer dress that I was kind of ‘over’ then this year I went to reach for it (for a costume actually). I was actually just talking to a girlfriend about this because she got rid of a pair of ‘flat forms’ that are now back in style. However my advice to her was, they we’re probably more beat up than you think and you most likely wouldn’t reach for them as a first choice.
      Try to let it go, replace those items with something great. Use rules that are concrete. If the items are pulled, stained, misshapen etc. Hope this helps!

      I too, have regretted getting rid of things from time to time. I tried putting aside things I wanted to purge, either to a friend my size with the understanding that I could borrow it back, or in a tote out of site. When going through the tote much later, I might find a few items I was happy to see again, but often I had moved on & replaced those items with things I loved more, so I could then part with them more easily.

      I do the same thing!! I have like 25 pairs of jeans and only wear 3 of them. LOL

      LOL, same here! I do love wearing jeans whenever I get around to wearing them though! 😂

      I guess I’m not the only one. I have a jean addiction. I have 36 pair, some still have tickets on them, and I tell myself no more jeans, when I go shopping. Then I end up looking at the jeans, and buying more. I have a real problem. I’v only worn maybe 6 pair.

    I am a conscientious shopper. I think before I buy and also get rid of anything that doesn't fit, is age inappropriate and not my style

    I just changed over my entire wardrobe to black, but I used to wear black all the time until I decided to wear colors, instead. After years and years of color, I realized recently that I'm not comfortable with it. And no, I don't care if it makes me look older. Black is a power color, and it certainly is one for me. When I wear color, no matter what color it is, people treat me like I'm either an imbecile or incapable, even my own family, who ought to know better. I've had it with that. It's back to black with a vengeance.

      PS I bought everything on sale; most of it was 60% to 75% off. All basic pieces and classic styles that I've liked since I was in my 30s.
