@@rebeccamolock2564 yes, absolutely! That would be fantastic! I do not manage to find the proper blazer that works for me, some advice (and brand suggestions) would be much appreciated!
I really like a separate-tank steamer, with a long hose. I’m lucky enough to have a sort-of laundry room, so I just leave it out there, and my ironing board and sewing machine up. I don’t put anything into my wardrobe that needs attention (laundering, ironing, alterations, mending), just leave it in the laundry room until I get to it. This makes it so easy to get dressed, knowing everything is ready-to-wear.
I really appreciate you adding the diagrams and photos for each body shape instead of just describing it expecting viewers to understand what you mean. It’s the little things!! 😭
I would love to see a video on best dressing for characteristics like for a short torso (while being petite and pear-shaped). Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
This kind of information is so helpful. Thank you so much. I really value your knowledge. I am a cross between a rectangle and an inverted triangle - I call myself an inverted trapezium!! I have discovered, after a lifetime of experimentation (mistakes), that I like my tops to be simple, fitted and streamlined. I save all the detail, drama and movement for the bottom half. Knowing that has enabled me to curate a wardrobe that totally works for me.
Your body type videos are so helpful, more and more I learn about the right things to compliment a rectangle! It really saves my wallet and keeps the regrettable buys minimal. Please don’t ever stop making these🙏🏽 Not enough women’s fashion channels do this honestly
Thank you for giving me the confidence to figure out how to style myself after three kids. I’m Apple shape and it’s just so tough trying to find what fits or how to style.. your videos are to the point, informative, and useful
I like that you show us inverted triangles some love. So many stylists on TH-cam ignore this body type. I've also noticed some women say they're an apple shape when they're actually inverted triangles.
Love your videos!! Could you please make a video on cute staples for professional work attire? I need ideas for what to wear when I go to law school! Thank you!! 🤩🥰
This was really useful! I’m an hourglass, and I’ve definitely bought the wrong kind of top before, when following ‘basics’ lists. I like a high-waist jegging/skinny jean, and I do have them in black, navy, and grey.
I love your channel and your style! Please consider doing a video on how to wear straight legged denim... from sneakers to booties to heels and what the proper length should be
You’re the best. You have helped me find my style, add basics and build my fashion confidence. I make lists and screen shot your videos. Now when I’m shopping I know exactly what I’m looking for which saves me time and money. Putting outfits together is now fun and easy. I can’t thank you enough. My students and staff have said, “wow you look great today!” I give all the credit to you.
InSpiteOfBecauseOf Thanks for sharing this!! I love it 🥰 Hearing things like this make me so happy :) When I started the channel the goal was to lift up women and help them feel confident and empowered. Nice to hear it’s working! Xoxoxo
I'm a petite pear shape. The best jeans I have ever found are from Everlane! I buy the ankle jeans and they are the bomb!!! Highly recommend and they are well worth the investment!!
Great video and helpful content. I'm just bummed that I'm seeing this a year later and none of your links for the rectangle body shape work anymore. Will you please update them, Kim XO? I especially want to know where I can get the paperbag denim jeans you featured!
Hi! I’ll take a look at this video and see if I can still find pieces. Try googling ‘paper bag jeans’ and see what comes up. Let me know if that works! Kim xo
One of the most useful videos on capsule/wardrobe basics ever. Thank you Kim! Would you do "seasonal trends per body type" videos? Perhaps you already do, must check! Love from England x
Oh, I am so glad you like the Rowenta steamer. My husband and I were looking for one and picked that one up about 6 months ago. I love it, but I didn't know if we had made the correct purchase. It gets kind of heavy. I thought maybe I should have went for the full on professional steamer. I also have that same pill remover for my sweater. Bought it around the same time I bought the steamer. I was cleaning out my closet during the quarantine and I saw a sweater so badly pilled, I thought, I am just going to toss it or donate it. It was hopeless, even though I had that pill remover. I just hope I hadn't gone out in public with that one. ;-)
I’m a straight shape, but busty, like you, Kim, but equal hips and shoulder width, and not slender. I find the new boxy tees only make me look more square, so I go for the more fitted ones.
I am an apple and have found that Torrid jeans work really well for me. My biggest issues with jeans, really most pants, are length. I am 5'6", so petite are too short and average is too long. I have found that average crop works, because it is too long for me as a crop, but goes to my ankle or slightly lower.
Lynn Aiken I’m the same height and have the same problem with length. Best solution is to just go regular and go straight to the tailor to have them adjusted. Bit of extra cost, but tot worth it.
Hi! I love all of your videos! They are so helpful and practical and I love that you emphasize loving your body shape and it’s best features! I feel like I have a more rectangular shape but I had surgery in my stomach areas twice so I have a large scar that has caused the skin in that area to almost “pouch” out as if I had just had a baby. The only the I could really do to fix it (because it was not done properly to be able to heal properly) would be to have a tummy tuck and I’m not sure I would be able to afford that now but that areas is really my only insecure part of my body. How should I dress myself with a rectangular body type with a very unwanted pooch 😩
What is the best tee for an hourglass? I clicked on your link but it isn’t working. I’m am on the hunt for a fitted white tee and it has been a struggle. So many are made boxy or super flowy and make me look much larger than I am. I would love one that is fitted to come in around my waist but haven’t been able to find one yet. Thank you!! I love watching your videos!
This is so helpful, because I was just thinking I needed to get some more wardrobe basics based on my body type, which I’m pretty sure is hourglass. I’m always struggling with a winter coat that looks good, because the styles of today don’t suit me.
I am a tall inverted triangle (broad shoulders and long slim legs) and I know that I should wear wide-leg jeans. But the thing is I have massive cellulite on bottocks and thigs and thus my size of jeans needs to be big which in turn makes me look wide both at the bottom part and upper part of my body. What type of jeans should I wear? Skinny?
You sound like you have a beautiful body! :) I would ask you what jeans you feel the best in? Long legs can pull off almost any style. Skinny’s work if you feel good. Kim xo
Thanks Kim this was so helpful! I have a question: I have a hourglass figure (large chest and hips, small waist) but I am really short (5 feet 2) so my curviness often looks too much for my body and my neck also looks short due to my large chest. I struggle to find clothes that wont make me look short and stumpy, especially oversized tops they make my chest look huge. Is there any special tips for petite curvy girls like me? Thanks :)
I think I’m a rectangle. I always feel like I’m adding bulk and extra lbs. when I put blousy things on. I am petite and have a short waist. Love your videos Kim!
Question: do you agree with wearing colors on your color wheel? I tend to look washed out and sick in white, but I love white. Would you still wear it?
Can you recommend affordable, 100% cotton black jeans for a straight figure? The waists are always too tight, and hips too large for me. My waist and hip measurement are almost the same. I can’t wear stretch denim because they won’t stay up, the friction from the clinging inches them down as I take a few steps. I’m sick of having to hold my jeans up with both hands. Even toght elastic belts don’t help. Would men’s be better? Thanks.
I am an hourglass but short waisted, narrow shouldered, large busted for my size and petite. I’m also 72. I wear crew neck 3/4 sleeve tees. I don’t tuck them in. These are very hard to find as tunics are just too long and the now most common thin fabrics aren’t kind to older women. I wear mid or high rise jeans with slim or straight legs. These are easier to find but almost always have to be hemmed. People don’t have basics because they are almost impossible to find for certain body types.
This is interesting. I'm a mature overweight short waisted hourglass with large bust. I can't wear the tight fitting clothes without looking trashy/fat. I have a teenage son and want to look modest. After watching this, I am realizing that I need to wear tops that work for apples and bottoms that work for pears. So helpful! Thanks
Thanks, I just love these body shape videos (with pics 🤗). I am top heavy like you, but it's on my shoulders and broad back, have narrow hips. Spot on about the white T👍 But the black jeans has to be flare for me, wide from the tighs makes my but & tighs look really really tiny. Did'nt see any winter coat for us top heavies ... 😘
I love that you are doing videos that feature body type. But I just have to disagree with the statement that hourglassglass types "can wear anything." Not necessarily true. Some styles can make us look shapeless and much bigger than we are.
I think you may be talking to the less extreme hourglass shapes. I can't wear narrow legs without making my thighs and butt look huge. And I have to be very careful with shirts, coats, and jackets hit. If they get me at the widest part of my hips it is not flattering.
I am an inverted triangle but I don't like the wide leg denim. It looks too 1970's and really not my style. I prefer a skinny with high boots to balance things out or a patterned loose fitting non-denim pants. Are there any other flattering pants alternatives?
Hi Kim, thank you for a great video! I have a question about how to figure out what clothing looks best if you are a combination of two body shapes. I am a spoon shape (variation of a pear with “shelf-like” hips) but unlike the pear or spoon shape I have a large bust. Small shoulders, large bust and large hips. From trial and error I’ve learned with tops that crew necks, turtle necks, some boats necks, basically anything that comes toward my neck look awful on me. What would you recommend in situations like this where someone doesn’t fit neatly into one shape? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
It’s all about balance. Envision two triangles with the points touching each other (hour glass shape) so you need pieces that help you create that. Send me a picture on IG and I’ll try to help you! Www.instagram.com/stylebyKimxo
Kim XO Hi Kim. Thank you so much for the reply! I really appreciate it. Unfortunately I am not on Instagram, however, I will certainly look more closely at the styling for hour glass shapes. I hadn’t really thought of that before since my body shape technically isn’t hour glass.
I loved this video. The background music detracted from it badly though, eg that music at 3:05 that kept recurring, like a bad recurring nightmare throughout the whole video. It would be better to just leave it out, imho,. Your videos are so good, they don't even need music or anything that distracts from the great info and inspiration you provide us with.
Sorry!! Sometimes it’s turned up a bit higher when the video is being edited and we don’t notice because we are so used to it! I’ll take a listen. Thanks for the feedback:)
My daughter has special needs and doesn't know what her style is or how to carry herself properly. I find going shopping and buying her clothes extremely hard and challenging especially as she has put on some weight recently. I think she might be pear shape as she has chunky thighs but she also is too heavy too. She is almost 18. We live in Sydney Australia, please help. What style of clothes should I be getting her.
Just FYI to help anyone, Madewell and JCrew (which I own, and are partners) and Wit and Wisdom out of Nordstrom have built in tummy control in their jeans. Good info Kim, but I won't limit myself to only one type of Tshirt etc. Being an hourglass/🍐 I will probably have to find a puff sleeve😋 and I love paper bag styles, but fit is key.
Hi Kim...your new follower! This video is super good and useful, especially with pics of diff body shapes! 😍 Can I ask one question please? At one point you mentioned to create balance ie if bottom heavy create weight on top and vice versa... Though in one of your earlier videos u mentioned to juxtapose..ie bottom loose and top flowy or bottom flowy n top cynched/shapely.. can you explain that diff please? :( personally am very short heighted with very heavy top bottom n mid section.. :'( pls pls pls reply.. n again, awesome video! 👏
Hi Kim My hubby says I'm a hourglass I do have that dented in on sides lol. My shoulders are 38 waist 33 and hips 38 long legs 22 thighs but muscular am I an hourglass
Great tip about maternity pants. I hate when the belt loops, zipper, and button give that funny look under tops when left untucked. Maternity jeans would be more slim fitting. I'll freak everyone out when I go pants shopping in the maternity stores, ha ha
Fat arms are the worst. Mine just destroys great looking outfits and I have to size up so tops fit my arms but then they're massive around the rest of my body. 😥
I went out and bought basic tanks and tshirts and they sit in my drawers for years unworn. I am not huge but tanks cling to the bits I am trying to hide
Thank you! Would love to see more basic suggestions for apple shape on less juvenile casual clothing and outfits. There are some things (cute sweaters) that I'll borrow from my 19 year old daughter's closet...but NOT track suits. 😉
I'm very much a pear. Wide v necks are best for me and longer tops. Not cropped! That shows off the wider hips. Flares are too wide for small shoulders.
Thanks for watching! Let me know what you think! Xoxoxo

Hi Kim My hubby says I'm a hourglass I do have that dented in on sides lol. My shoulders are 38 waist 33 and hips 38 long legs 22 thighs but muscular am I an hourglass
Hi you are not an hourglass. You are a rectangle. To be an hour glass your waist has to be 8 inches less than you bust and hips.
@@janetteehan8230 Sh, don't tell her husband!
Great tip about maternity pants. I hate when the belt loops, zipper, and button give that funny look under tops when left untucked. Maternity jeans would be more slim fitting. I'll freak everyone out when I go pants shopping in the maternity stores, ha ha
Dear I have a hourglass shape but I always look wider from the top shoulder ( I have a fat arm), help me please ??
Fat arms are the worst. Mine just destroys great looking outfits and I have to size up so tops fit my arms but then they're massive around the rest of my body. 😥
What if you are rectangle but have a large waist? Putting volume on my waist doesn't work for me.
Hi from SOuth AFrica
Hi back! (Super delayed lol)
Do you make house calls? To Chicago, lol?
I went out and bought basic tanks and tshirts and they sit in my drawers for years unworn. I am not huge but tanks cling to the bits I am trying to hide
what about us short torso ladies?
Thank you! Would love to see more basic suggestions for apple shape on less juvenile casual clothing and outfits. There are some things (cute sweaters) that I'll borrow from my 19 year old daughter's closet...but NOT track suits. 😉
Fantastic
I'm very much a pear. Wide v necks are best for me and longer tops. Not cropped! That shows off the wider hips. Flares are too wide for small shoulders.
You are so awesome and I love your videos. Please reconsider using music that repeats over and over and over. It’s just really annoying! 💜
