    The reason riders choose stops is that they don't want to book another ride request because of an additional service fee. So, if Uber is so liberal or spendthrift with the driver's time, it should cough up that service fee for the wait time.
    The whole system is predicated on exploitation, creating unnecessary tension and confrontation between the driver and rider.

      The problem is larger than money. If a rider goes into the store and browses around for 10 minutes and you leave them, it's very likely they will 1 star you, particularly Karens. There is nothing that protects the driver in those cases and its patently unfair to put the driver in a position to either get paid peanuts or risk a bad review.

    Yes! We need $0.50 to $1.00 per minute while waiting depending on slow or surge. First time I had a “Stopper” each of two stops was around 10 mins. As I drove into her apartment complex she asked me to stop at the liquor store that was right there along the way. Since we seemed to connect I figured I was in for a big tip. That stop took another 15 minutes because she was shopping for a party! 50 minutes later I made about $10 and NO TIP!!!!! And it was cold out so I kept the car running and gas probably ate up more than the money I got.

    Doing rideshare as a side hustle, has made me really realize how inconsiderate people are. Like OH MY GOD!! Is a passenger I've taken a few trips over the years to sporting events, get my car from the shop etc. I've always been one to have a side stop at a gas station to get a drink on the way out.... I gotta have my drink. It's a quick stop and I always offer one to the driver too. Than I start driving and these AHOLES want me to take them to long errands and wait. Totally entitled, like I'm not your slave, I'm here to make money.... wouldn't it make sense to offer me some cash for my time? That's would I would do if I was in that situation, yet it has happened NOT ONCE.

    • @T.Harry79
      @T.Harry79 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Doing rideshare is really up to you. It’s up to you to set the tone in your vehicle. If any passengers ask to make a stop, tell them they can edit and add a stop. Most likely, they won’t, to avoid extra charges. If you display a super nice person, most passengers will definitely test you.

    • @soooluscious5636
      @soooluscious5636 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@T.Harry79 that's exactly my philosophy. When they want a stop, tell them to add it in the app and that they have 5 minutes. When people make a stink about that, I nicely remind them that I'm being paid to drive, not to wait, and that I'm sure they wouldn't want to stay at work knowing they wouldn't be paid for it. It's all in the delivery though, and if you sound annoyed or angry this will definitely get you a 1 star rating. Like T. Harry said, you've got to set the tone in your car. My car is my kingdom, and people need to know how things work when they visit my kingdom 🤴

    I booked an Uber for trip 10 miles away to shopping center. I liked this guy so I asked if we could make it a round trip with stops, he said ok. 5 stops, all within plaza, all about 2 minutes each , just running in to pick-up online shopping orders. He took me back home, we had great conversation the whole time, entire trip about an hour. After I got all my packages inside, I gave him a $20 bill. He seemed happy 😊.

    Drove in Los Angeles for several years and had only a few individuals abuse multiple stop service by 10 or more minutes. I recently moved to NE Ohio and it’s an infestation of that here. Not to mention chronic wait times. After looking into ride share policies, it seems Uber allows 3 minutes and Lyft 5 minutes per stop. Anything over that and I’ll end the ride. The riders (who abuse drivers time w/ excessive wait times at stops) in NE Ohio act like they have you on retainer. It’s pretty disgusting. Anyone else experience this in your city?

    5 minutes waiting max unless the passenger give you some cash upfront that worth your time of waiting. Most of the time the passenger will take more than 5 minutes so you need to cancel and move on and remember to send support a message to let them know so the passenger rating wound affect your rating.

People try to take advantage of my kindness far too often and tip far too rarely for me to let such a overtly inconsiderate move go unchecked. I have the same policy for waiting to pick people up. I'm like Ryan Gosling in Drive: you have 5 minutes, and I'm leaving with or without you. Those cancelation fees might finally motivate people to be ready when their driver shows up. Also, I would love to get a video for anchors and how to make sure people don't try to pull that scam lol

    One thing I don't hear being said is specifically with Uber, is how multiple stops affect ride challenges. Challenges that are 70 or 80 can be successfully accomplished by doing many short one way trips. Multiple stops kill your trips per hour and essentially make two trips only count as one. If I am doing a high trip challenge, I cancel every multiple stop request. Also recently I have been getting riders changing their request after I accept from a one way to adding a stop. If I see them do that, I cancel and get another rider.

    I get the whole wait times. 5-10 mins for a quick stop. Say someone runs in to get prescription there may be 3 people ahead of them. The person isn’t going to know ahead of time. Also I think a lot of drivers haven’t had to deal with it but be friendly as there are many who have major disabilities like blind/low vision you may not fully realize They may need to stop and get something but it may take them a little long just do not be g able to go as fast. You may not realize how many people who are not physically able to drive are helping you pay your bills as a driver If it’s much longer maybe there is an extra fee of 10 cents a Min.

    • @tellmestraight
      @tellmestraight ปีที่แล้ว

      They need to pay extra then. I would like to help but I do my charity time in my off hours. When I am working I need to make money. 10 cents a minute is ridiculous. You obviously do this as a hobby and don't really need the money. 50 cents a minute is only $6.00 per hour. You have charity and work mixed together.

    My riders are mostly college Students, and it is rare that they have multiple stops on a trip. If they do, it's usually to pick someone up, or drop them off.
    I had a group the other day I picked up from a sorority house. They needed to drop a couple of people off, change, and head to the bar district. I told them I would wait. I waited longer than I wanted to, but in the end, I ended up with a $10 tip. What should've taken about 10 minutes from origin to destination ended up being 25 minutes.
    I have also had an alum walk up to me after I called him, and said he was saying goodbye to old friends he hadn't seen in a while, handed me $20 and asked me to wait for him while they said their goodbyes. I obliged. About 10 minutes later, he walked back up to me, handed me another $20, and told me he was going to have another beer, and asked for me to wait longer. I obliged. About 10 minutes later, his buddy walked out of the bar, handed me yet another $20 bill, and said they were having one more beer. So I waited some more. About 10 minutes later (30 minutes after I arrived), he walked out of the bar, and I took him to his hotel. All on top of a 1.7X surge (this tells you how long ago this was!) . . . By the way, there was another driver there waiting for his friend who they were doing the same thing to!
    It was a minimum fare with a 1.7X surge, and 31.6 minutes of wait time. I netted $14.11 from the ride, and a $60 tip!
    The one thing I won't do, is go through a drive thru at 2:00 in the morning. Before COVID, I used to tell the riders I could drop them off, and they could catch another Uber once they are finished, but now most of the lobbies that used to be open are shut down at that time. There are a few times I have gone through the drive thru for food, but I judge that on a case by case basis, and it usually nets be $20-$60 tips and/or some food. And I ONLY do this during slow/non-peak times.

    Multiple stops are a ripoff. I lose money on these every time. Plus these riders rarely tip. Many of my lower income area customers wait until just before you pick them up or just after picking them up to add the extra stop or stops. I have noticed that they save a lot of money doing it this way and I usually get paid only a dollar or so extra for this - with 10 to 20 minutes more time and more miles. Plus, if I had something to do after the original trip I expected, I would now be late for that. Uber doesn't care because they make their commission either way. This is another way Uber rips us off.

    Make it at least a dollar a minute or more. The idea is to make it an expensive penalty for making the driver wait that long. The more expensive it is to keep the driver waiting the less likely the passenger will make the driver wait. If the passenger is cool with it then the driver makes some 💰 🤑 💸. If not then the passenger makes it a quick stop and everybody is happy 😊

      Makes sense to me yet still after all these years Uber and Lyft still haven’t made it happen. It would solve so many problems. We don’t have a problem with waiting we have a problem with waiting for free.

    If we were truly Independent Contractors there would be ways for drivers to set rates individually.
