    As I have pointed out on other forums. The format of the event was done to highlight the fact that Tesla is inundated with talented people who are committed to the goal.
    Tesla is a lot more than Elon. That Elons absence while at Twitter, Nuralink, The Boring Company or SpaceX is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes, if you have top flight people, the best thing a boss can do is just get out of the way and let them do their jobs.

      This seems overly optimistic. If Elon is good at his job (including getting out of the way when he needs to), then the more he does that job the better for the company. If he isn't then Tesla has bigger problems than his adding one more distraction. You can make the case that Twitter (et al) don't distract him *much*, or that these projects are all important enough to the world that we should be glad he's doing them - but painting them as a net positive for Tesla is unreasonable.

    • @Glenhh
      @Glenhh ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@sashacooper9326 Either way, if people don’t understand the talent and culture that is inside Tesla they should sell their shares right now.
      One has to be a moron to think Elons lacking attention will lead 130k employees to go mayhem.
      The same was true for when JB and Andrey left the company. It’s fine, they aren’t the only smart guys at the company.

    • @Glenhh
      @Glenhh ปีที่แล้ว

      We never had those discussions inside the Tesla community back in the day (pre 2019) when the community were people that understood all of that. They knew more about the company than headline articles and youtube clickbait. Now that people joined that don’t do their due diligence and only jumped on a hype train we suddenly let narratives of the mainstream media dictate what we talk about. It’s a joke.

      Agree completely. Investor Day was a tour de force presentation for institutional investors who only own 46% of the stock v.s. institutional ownership in Apple (61%), Microsoft (74%) or Google (79%). I think it also answers the key-man concern of Gary Black in that if Elon was hit by a bus the bench is deep, very broad and Hyper focused on the mission. It also clearly shows the deep internal team integration of design, manufacturing and suppliers to efficiently produce high quality products at low cost.
      This is all rooted in the design, engineering, manufacturing and hiring philosophy of Musk. Something very hard to create in a legacy company with their established fiefdoms. I think there is high probability they will get to 20M vehicles by 2030. In addition, I think the increase in battery production for stationary storage products for both homes and utilities will make Tesla a lot of money while doing the same for their customers and reduce CO2 generation.

    One point I would add is that the depth and experience and longevity of the staff was on full display, and I’m sure that was intentional. Message: Tesla is not a one-man show. If your gonna change the world, you need end-to-end talent, and they’ve got a hella good group.
    The thing I love about all of Tesla’s presentations is that no marketing or sales people are doing over-rehearsed sales presentations. You are hearing directly from engineers who are talking about what they do, and they are clearly fascinated with what they do. Mission-driven. Dig it.

    I watched this from engineering perspective, because of my engineering background. I was actually feel amazed when I listened to it, especially talking about Teslabot, manufacturing processes. Teslabot even gave me some goosebumps when I see it.
    In the other hand from financial standpoint, I once had question on how could they make cost reduction on vehicle manufacturing? Because there should be some limitations on material. I think I got the answer from Zach Kirkhorn. How to improve the manufacturing quality while reducing cost in the same time? That’s important one.

    • @andrasbiro3007

      They explained the cost reduction part too. After 20 years the cost of living would be 25-30% lower than today, self made semiconductors, 5% of all semiconductors for Tesla, 20 million cars per year goal which is more than Toyota and VW TOGETHER, corrrecly stating that material, raw material is no point to discuss, but refinement of products is, the removel of rare earth metals in the motors, change of motor construction, future model fits with every battery type - INCLUDING NA+! and its drivetrain costs less than 1000,--
      Teslabot is funny but not important. FSD is necessary but not ready for prime time. Dojo needs more time and refinement. Obviously.

    The way they have integrated the whole manufacturing process from design through to the end product including the factory is astounding. Designing a car to improve the layout of the factory for greater efficiency is unheard of and a revolution on the same scale as Henry Ford's production line.

    Rob the 1/16 efficiency comes from the power equation P=I^2R where the voltage is 4X increased (48V/12V=4 and 4^2=16).

  • @paulshipley6024
    @paulshipley6024 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Moving from 12V to 48V reduces the current by a factor of 4. Resistive losses are linear with current. So it is a 4x reduction in loss not a 16x reduction. Still helps a lot as a 75% is quite dramatic.

    • @fred8281
      @fred8281 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is:
      Resistance (not resistive (power) losses) varies linearly with current (R=V/I).
      and
      Resistive (power) losses vary with the square of current (P=I^2*R).
      So reducing current by a factor of 4 would allow reducing the cross sectional area of the wiring by a factor of 4 (75%), with the same resistive power losses.
      or
      Keeping the cross sectional area of the wiring the same, reducing current by a factor of 4 would allow reducing the resistive (power) losses by a factor of 16 (93.75%).
      or
      Some combination of the two, without the full benefits of both, just partial benefits of both. For example, 1/2 the wiring cross section, and 1/8 the power losses.
      Assuming that the the resistive power losses were heretofore acceptable, Tesla would most likely just reduce the wiring diameter and save 75% on copper.
      So your point that there would be a 75% reduction is probably correct, but in regards to to size of the wiring.

This was a company flexing it's big muscle in public. They even have the funding secured to deliver. Truly awesome news for Tesla investors.

      I think it's not even investors but mostly just traders. Tesla often has this buy the rumour sell the news kinda dynamic on their events, delivery reports and earnings. At the end of the day Tesla is still up pretty nicely over the recent months. I personally welcomed that chance to pour my Feb salary into some more Tesla shares.

      The narrative is wrong though.
      Traders were disappointed and left the stock. Who cares.
      Short term investors were disappointed, they don’t understand what they are seeing. Who cares.
      Long term investors saw Tesla giving us a plan for the next 10 years and a few glimpses of the current tech.
      It’s apparent that none of the people being disappointed have ever watched something like this from other companies. They generally don’t do it (started after Tesla did) and when they do they are way more short term focused.

    I was glad to hear someone finally ask a question about possible impact on Tesla due to geopolitical tensions - Tom Zhu clearly replied that they don't know what could happen. This is concerning, but glad this question was asked. Often times when the future of Tesla is being discussed excitedly by investors, it should be borne in mind that is only possible if the world remains peaceful.

      My view is that Tesla can't not be in China. Half of all EVs are sold in China. Also China's plan is to export EVs to the world and they can't do that if they've nationalized the foreign car companies.

    Great recap. Elon should have done this at the end of the presentation to reconnect the major points to the overall theme. As it was there was no payoff - just hours of detail that was only interesting to those of us who are already true believers. Someone needs to remind Tesla that ‘Tell them what you just told them’ is an important component of any presentation.

    As usual, Rob cuts through all the FUD. My biggest take away I could sum in a few words: The “competition” doesn’t have a chance. They’ll never catch up with Tesla’s current generation platform, ever mind the next. And the CT prototype Rob did a short video on looks incredible. 2024 will become known as the year GM and Ford’s dominance in trucks hits a wall.

    Thanks Rob. I watched the entire event and was very pleased with what I saw. Some people seem to forget that Tesla is still battery constrained and the shared focus is on keeping the existing car factories running flat out or as close as possible while working on other projects to increase battery availability. It's only once they've got the batteries they need that they'll introduce new products rather than developments of existing products. (IMHO)

I had thought about going down to Clive's yesterday, but I am too old and fat to stand for several hours any more:-0 But I would have enjoyed a chance to meet you in person. The take away for investors should have been obvious from the format. By having each of the teams present themselves you got to see the width and depth of each of those teams. Should have seen their direction, goals, and abilities to deal with stumbling blocks. The good numbers Tesla posts on its Q4's are not from juggling the numbers, but from a methodical step by step process with a clear path forward.
    I am glad they didn't give out to much on their new next gen vehicle, as it drives people to want to see quick results. The development of those things are not straight line. They are dynamic and fluid with hills and valleys along the way. Even when they have the car designed and the processes figured out there is the supply chain to get worked out. The 48 volt stuff is not off the shelf and new motors, relays, and actuators will have to be designed along with new or modified manufacturing equipment. The magnets needed for the motor while being cheaper, more powerful, and rare earth free are not even in production yet, and who knows what hiccups will be encountered scaling that new process up.
