I've gone from catching nothing to catching a feed every time i head to the beach for a fish. Your content is amazing and has helped me step up my fishing game. Thanks Roger.
Hi Roger. I've only started fishing in Wellington, NZ, in October so I'm a complete greenhorn. Thanks to your excellent videos, in two months I've moved from initially catching Spotty which is fun BTW, to now regularly landing good-sized Kahawai (Aus salmon) and Moki. Trevally and Kingfish are next on my list. Your videos and very informative and more importantly inspire confidence. Excuse the pun, but I'm now hooked on this sport thanks to you.
The flaps on a stingray are actually really nice. I was sceptical when my old man was telling me about them. Took me 20 years before I tried them myself. Never looked back 😂
Thanks for all of your great videos. I live in Vancouver and I'm going to Mexico in two days and I will try some of your rigs off the beach there. Wish me luck! Adios mate.
Roger I’m so grateful for all your videos they are so helpful I went beach fishing last night and after practice and hard work I finally caught my first 2 flathead
skate wings are quite a common find in UK fishmongers. Great addition to fish soups or in a seafood sauce for pasta. Happy New Year to you and family and many thanks for the continuing dedication to making great and informative videos, and your wonderful attitude to fishing and teaching as well.
Roger those fresh pipi's, or cockles as we call them down here in South Australia are killer baits for big King George Whiting or any whiting for that matter. I've eaten Skates before or Fiddler Rays as they are known and I eat the tail, it's shaped like a good sized flathead body. When the Blue Swimmer crab run is on the rays taste exactly like the Bluey's, it's a strange sensation eating a ray that tastes like a crab. Just shows how many they must be eating when the crab season is running. Great info in your clips champ always look forward to them
Roger, another great video! With all the heavy rain that we have been having of late in one of your future videos, can you give your thoughts about fishing in the brown water that has comes down from the creeks and if the salinity of the water affects the fishing. Thanks😎
Another good video, Roger. The view from the top of the stairs was awesome. Don't bream turn it on when a good one turns sideways? Bream and whiting with no measure cooking. Yum.
On the stingray topic. I tried Sambal stingray in Singapore and it was sooo good!! As soon as I got home I was trying to find someone that made it here. If I caught my own rays I’d have a crack myself but it could be a good alternative to your Thai fishcakes
Another great video Rodger, I thoroughly enjoy your very educational content, even at 50 I’m still learning. Happy new year and look forward 👀 to what you have installed for us in the new year 👍
Hey Roger thanks for your videos i went to a beach last fishing trip and have find out hips of red crabs lining down under sand where surf breaks is there a way to catch them if you can make a video about that please 🙏.
Hi Roger, video idea: I'd love to see how you organize your tackle. I'd be keen to see your process from preparing stuff at home through to cleanup at the end of a session. Thanks so much for your videos, I'm a newbie in nz and you're helping me catch fish :)
Hi Roger, have you ever considered a drone to get out past the way at the back where all the waves are in balance when you get a beach that’s a washing machine like this one. Sometimes it’s a lot of weed out the back, but then sometimes there isn’t …
Watch the barb on those stingrays Roger. I had my hand right up near the mouth like you and one swung his tail right around got me in the wrist. Very painful. I noticed his tail got pretty close to you too!
Mate, recent Sydney Sand Whiting fillet prices have been as high as $66/kg, so as well as having a great session out fishing, it keeps some extra cash in the pocket! The prices of other staples like Flathead have been high as well, so just more incentive to get out there and catch a feed.
Like you, I've heard that Stingray flaps are better than shark, but just never bothered to prepare and eat them. I've eaten plenty of crumbed and battered shark fillet (Flake). It tastes a lot better than it smells when you are preparing it. Flake is for people who don't mind a firm, strong flavored fish. People can be funny when it comes to eating fish. Some don't like fish that tastes too "Fishy", while others find "Delicate" flavors to be too bland. Some don't like fish if it is too "Soft", they call it "Mushy", while others don't like fish that is too "Firm", they call it "Dry" or "Tough". :) There is one thing that can cause real problems with some fish and some people though. indigestion. Particular species of fish are oily and some people don't like those oily fish because the fish dinner "Repeats" on them. Components of some fatty oils are hard to digest. Affected people tend to burp a lot and get an aftertaste. I have a friend who doesn't like Cobia and Schoolie mackerel because of that. Doesn't mind the flavour. Just the after effects. His fish of choice is snapper and bream, basically doesn't eat or keep much else. I don't notice problems with oily fish myself. There's one particular deep sea fish called Oilfish, that will put you on the toilet after few pieces. The Wax esters in the oil are indigestible. Goes right through. It's supposed to taste very good and buttery, but the consequences are....... inhibiting. ;)
Hi Merry Christmas to you and your family hope you had a good one enjoying your videos I'm shaun from Cape Town South Africa the worms are definitely way smaller over here I've never seen the anyone attempt the way you do it but I think I should have a go also what rod setup where you using the small one is it a 9ft or 7ft and the reel size thank you for the great content have a blessed new year
Hi Roger. Have recently just started beach fishing having mainly fished rivers and estuaries my entire life. Your channel has been a huge help. I've been having issues casting bigger sinkers often required for beach fishing. I was wondering if you have ever tried using a "casting trigger/casting canon" and if so what are your thoughts? Keep up the great work.
Hey Roger, looking at your footprints on the beach I reckon you must’ve walked at least 10 km on the sand. Fishing has very good fitness Benefitz ha ha
How many rods do you have or need? I've got one 12ft two piece, one 8ft collapsible and one 6ft collapsible. That seems to cover me for all I need for both salt and fresh water 🙂.
Roger how is it that you’re always catching the bigger whiting? I’m in Perth and I can never catch the whiting you catch? Is it bigger baits or do you not film the smaller ones?
Just a reminder when retrieving a line and sinker with seaweed entangled. Especially at night, sometimes the seaweed drops off and the sinker and hook come flying back at you , watch out if it happens suddenly with a tight line pressure, a sinker or hook in the konk , face, eye, ear or mouth is a very unpleasant experience.
@@RogerOsborneFishing there's lots of worms too on the north side of kioloa beach, past the first headland near the next reef outcrop. Mostly smaller ones though. On runout tide but before low tide.
Thanks Roger only day 1 😅 but yeah would love to see as much content you can produce. 😄It's really amazing watching every video and my family and I went fishing after watching all your tutorials and caught 8 dartfish which was really good for dinner! 😋🍽️
It’s pot luck mate, my old man landed the biggest one I’ve seen on a beach worm, I’ve landed them on live bait and salmon, but I’ve done best at dusk tbh, watch the gill rakers 👍
I have done alot of beach fishing for jews i like the last 6 days of the full moon night fishing run up tide and you need fresh or live baits nothing bought from a shop have to catch it and then go fishing find a good gutter also will help good luck.

I hope to experience this turn of events though

Hi Smashmoh, thanks for sharing this with me, much appreciated
"He swam away like a happy little whiting"........ Well he's definitely happier than the other one. ;)
So funny.
Love it Roger. You make fishing fun
Thanks Black Opal

There is a nascar driver named sting ray Rob. I think the Aussie version is Sting Ray Rod and we have found him

Not yet!
I'd watch that 👌

Hey Roger, love all your content mate. New to this beach fishing thing. What size star sinker do you suggest?
I use a range of sizes from 20g to 100g

Hi Tinker, thanks for your input 😊
New moon 3 days before 5 days after.
Old fisherman's story and aboriginal story.
New moon - feed family
not the best of weather lately for anything decent, the spit has been ok but you did not bad considering your bait and rig set up ?
Respect the pantihose bait bucket belt
Where is your local beaches Roger

I have a heavy, medium and light outfit for the beach depending on what species I am after
Hi Roger another great lesson beach fishing. What part of the south coast do you normally fish
Ulladulla Beaches
Hi Roger........Why don't you cut up a sting ray and try it out for bait?
What an interesting idea
Hi Roger, I am just wandering what is your new 12’ speedmaster rod line weight is, is it 8-15kg? Really enjoying watching your fishing videos
Yes that is correct
Thanks Roger, I just got the same one, because they look good. Pretty new to fishing, probably I will try my very first time on beach next week😊
How far out in feet or meters do you cast out.? When you reel in it barely looks like that far . Thanks roger 👍
It varies a lot. Anywhere from 10m to 80m depending on the structure at the time
Which beach is this im planning to go ulladulla area this new year roger . Hope can see you with the rod 😆
Racecourse Beach
Are u going fishing tomorrow? Im at ulladulla this 3days haha
Pl explain how to cast line on all types of reals and rods
hi Roger, any chance of sharing locations just for interest , cheers, and HNY. Frank
Racecourse Beach Ulladulla
Roger, do you ever cook up and eat the seaweed? Some of it is quite tasty and nutritious.
Hello Roger, are your rod tubes just 50mm plastic tubes if so do you cut a taper on the end so that it is easy to force into the sand?
Yes Ted, I buy the tubes from the hardware store and cut them to size with a taper 👌
Hey mate, whats the idea behind the bead? is it a visual thing?
Roger how is it that you’re always catching the bigger whiting? I’m in Perth and I can never catch the whiting you catch? Is it bigger baits or do you not film the smaller ones?
One other question- do you strike when they bite or let them take the hook on their own?
The light line works well, also I often get bigger Whiting just after it gets dark
Hi went fishing not great weather but hooked up to a small shark 🦈 but when dehooking hooked myself now at hospital waiting to be dehooked

Also anyone got any tips on soft plastic fishing from the beach
What state was this in ? Also anyone got any tips on how to catch big salmon off the surf I can only catch them in the 10-30cm range
South Coast NSW. Salmon love Pilchards, Squid and Worms
The thing is with eating stingrays, they have a lot of cartlidge in their wings.
don’t you often get stung by bluebottles during sunset?
We are getting heaps of whiting in kioloa right now too roger
Cool thanks. All the best!
