Roger and I laughed about that too! We’ve beach fished together twice now, caught at least 8 species, and not ONE salmon! Hard to believe… 😂

My first beach rod was a Starlo Classix that my dad bought me, I didn't know it was an actual person for a long time, just thought it was a cool name. 😂 I still use it as my second rod till this day.

There are no Beach worms, no Jew, No bream, only undersize whiting on my beach. However I just love it. Anyone who doesn't like beach fishing has no soul.

Hi Roger and Bec. Enjoyed the video with you guys and Starlo. Nice beach conditions. Here's what beach fishing is like in Victoria. I went out on Saturday afternoon, a southerly wind in my face, choppy waves and a strong undertow. I could cast more than 20 to 30 metres. The sinker couldn't hold bottom. The water was icy. Despite all that, I did manage to catch one Aus Salmon. Thanks for all the tips and enjoy your placid beaches. Kind regards MP

How do you prepare them ?
@@uhhbam …you can cook them like any other fish nothing special , batter the fillets of just fry the fillets very simple.
Im not a bait fisho ( 95% lures only ) but you guys are both legends and the information provided is exceptional.
How you go with lures on estuaries. Do U need a light rod?
@carlm429 a light rod definately helps. I usually use my 1-3kg or my 3-5kg if im chasing larger species

Love it! Two legends of Aussie fishing
Hey Roger, i often put squid tentacles on a bait keeper style hook about that size. I've found that you can slide it on cut end first like a worm, then feed it right up the hook and the barbs to the eye , then just sort of expose the main barb leaving the suckers end to float. The bait keeper barbs inside the squid tenticle keep it in place nicely and fish seem to love it!

I've always wanted to learn how to catch fish with a simple rod and reel. I'm so use to net fishing. Thrownet or lay net fishing. Some day I wanna just kick back and relax , because your methods of fishing looks so relaxing. To me, fishing is very therapeutic and a great way to meditate and focus. Roger, I don’t fully understand the leader weight, the breaking strain leader what difference does it make when fishing,
Example 15lb line , do I go lighter or heavier on the leader
Conditions of surf
Type of species
Generally, I would have the leader the same breaking strain as the main line or slightly lighter. The conditions of the surf do not influence it.

Thanks Roger I thought it looked familiar. We moved to Narrawallee just before Christmas. Being only a 5 minute walk away I’ve fished there often since then but not had your success. I think I really need to learn how to worm. But I agree, low tide allows you a to access better spots. Hope to see you down here one day
