    Love watching your videos!
    I have a request: when you discuss things like the deep trough, or where to cast, can you add some graphics to the video to indicate what you’re describing? Also? Would be great to also see where your cast lands.
    Keep it up!

    Hi Roger, when I was a kid and the salmon were running at point lonsdale in Vic, we would hook them and to prevent them spitting the hook when jumping we would basically bury the tip of the rod in the sand and walk backwards up the beach to get them out of the surf. This provided consistent hook pressure. What are your thoughts on this vs working them through the waves with the rod tip high?

    If you ever tire of those beach worms and Australian Salmon (actually a less desirable member of the perch family) it is almost time for the yearly run of Northern Bluefin Tuna (late Feb through to March) just off the tip of that island to your left. I have also caught some big kingfish at the same spot. Live yakkas (scad) are the best bait (never tried beach worms for them). I have also caught heaps of Luderick in the colder months, all of which you don't have to turn into fish cakes to enjoy.
    I have collected abalone near there and huge mud crabs in the estuary although this might not be legal nowadays.
    Fond regards and keep up the great work.

    • @cozab5487
      @cozab5487 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Aus Salmon are actually a Scombriform and closely related to Tuna, calling them a member of "the perch family" means nothing because most fish we catch are. They get a bad rep because they're common and most people don't know how to treat Tuna and their relatives, those big Bluefin didn't get that good by someone bashing them around on the jetty and leaving them in a bucket all day 🤷🏽‍♂️. Bleed, ice, fillet, skin, cut bloodline and red muscle out, better undercooked than overcooked and eat fresh (just as you would with a tuna) and Aus Salmon are far better than their reputation suggests 🤷🏽‍♂️.

    We have a requirement in New Jersey to use circle hooks to target stripped bass to keep from gut hooking fish and minimize mortality. Is there any similar rules in Australia?

    Roger, one of your best!. Word to the wise, discard suspect hooks!!!
    I have some gift vouchers from my birthday and Christmas. Each time I see one of your videos I want to go to BCF or Anaconda and buy some junk. Hope the move has gone well.

      Roger, I don't know about salmon, we don't get them up here but we get many small bait stealing dart.
      I love getting good bream in the surf.
      One early June morning about 15 yrs ago, I went down to the southern end of Pippi Beach, Yamba at a rock formation. First cast was a bit rubblely so I moved north about 5 metres. It was dark.
      In 6 casts I caught 6 bream all over 40cm (measured with the Alvey tool) then nothing. I was using a 7" rod I made myself probably 3-5kg and a spin reel. Those @##*^% bream turned sideways to the waves.
      Next morning, nothing, then the sun just peeped over the horizon and I got 4 bream in 5 casts all over 35cm but none 40. Then they just shut down.
      Just a yarn for you. Incidentally I have learnt a lot about seeking out gutters from you and preventing sideways movement. I don't beach worm as I'm 79 with a gut! Might try it though.
      We have had massive rain up here. The other day the BOM forecast 2-20 and one place got 400+ now they are forecasting another cyclone. I fear this is similar to Jan 26, 1974 with rain everyday then boom! massive floods.
