      Its definetely interesting as a concept, but what bugged me, it wasnt at all in the movie. Coming from critics I thought there is too little action in Eternals and they dont like it, because it focuses more on the character, than effects, but it was quite the opposite to my suprise. Everything was beautiful as hell... But I couldnt care less. Main character was bland, instead of showing emotions and making connections to others, Sersi was just focused on throwing the same exposition on people over and over and moving the plot forward. I didnt feel characters at all, until they clash in third act, but it was hard to only start caring about them 20 minutes before the movie ended.

    • @ms_scribbles
      @ms_scribbles 2 ปีที่แล้ว +83

      Yep, they almost all are connected to some sort of myth or ancient religion. Phastos = Hephaestus. Ikarus, the Greek myth of the boy who flew too close to the sun. Thena = Athena. Gilgamesh...is Gilgamesh, a king of the ancient Sumerians who was fabled to have immense strength. Sprite is a reference to fairies. Druig is...I think...supposed to coincide with the Welsh word for "dragon" (Ddraig). Sersi is a references to the Greek goddess named Circe who also can transform things. Ajak is Ajax the Greek mythic hero. Kingo is...well, nobody knows from what I can tell, but the best guess I've read is that his name is a reference to a very minor Babylonian god named Kingu.

    • @bryannshihquankam2939
      @bryannshihquankam2939 2 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      @@ms_scribbles Well firstly, Circe was an enchantress, not a goddess. Second, Ajak also inspired the legend of Quetzalcoatl from Mesoamerican myth.
      Also, fun fact: Sprite not only also helped to inspire the myth of Puck, but (in the comics at least) they also inspired the creation of Peter Pan when they performed their illusions in front of J. M. Barrie.

      I HAD THIS SAME THOUGHT!!! It would've been way more fun to see their misadventures through the ages (with the big plot sprinkled throughout), then the lighthearted moments could shine more and not get in the way of the more serious moments. Would also give us more reason to care about ANY of the characters (Icarus and Ajak especially, so the audience could feel genuinely betrayed by his actions later)

      Agreed, like in comic books, not every film should look and feel the same. They (Feige) should allow for different artistic approaches in the MCU. As much as I love the proven MCU formula, it starts to get old after more than 10 years and half a dozen new entries every year (movies and tv series). Comic books are still alive, because they allow writer & artists teams to find their own voice and style. I hope this also happens in the MCU in the next decade.

    I went with 0 expectations in after I saw the critics, feared it could go overboard with so many new characters and fall flat.
    But I liked the characters, the visuals and the pacing.
    It wasn’t boring at all. The fight scenes were very smoothly filmed without stupid cuts every second. The Deviants looked surprisingly great, the humor was there and well dosed in scenes, the music was pretty good. I also liked the idea with the flashbacks being on different major cities throughout time.
    Every character got some time to shine - so the awsome cast was not wasted (except maybe Kit Harrington but he will return anyway so..)
    I get why many marvel fans won’t like this one - as it is not as quirky and adventurous as Shang Chi or a fanservice galore like Spider-Man, but it’s nice to see that they went for a different feel this time.

      That's why I think upon the arrival of other films in the franchise, the rewatching quality of this film will increase immensely. That is MCU's forte after all, when you rewatch a film after later instalments, you feel like a sense of structure and continuity so it becomes satisfying and you feel like the effort and time you put into this universe pays off. With this big of a scope, Eternals have the effect on the cinematic universe that no other film in the franchise has. Feige knows what he is doing.

    A not so popular opinion, Eternals is a great movie. Just finished watching it on Disney+. And to simply put-Not every marvel movie has to be tons of action. Some just tell a story.
    The unique story telling of this movie gives it a tonal and aesthetic difference from other marvel films making it fresh. Its visually arresting scenes alone makes the movie worth watching-from the godly scope of the Celestials to the grounded real-world locations. This is honestly one of my favorites MCU movies. Top 10 easily.
    The scene between the Eternals at the Aztec empire almost made me cry. It was fascinating how "human" and how much of a complicated family they really were for being "superheroes”. It touched on so many themes: destiny, duty, authority, self-determination, hope. Every character represented a slightly nuanced view of humanity and I was invested into each one. All of them had different motivations and it really added depth. It had amazing dialogues and complex characters like Thena and I'm impressed with how well they made me care for them.
    Even though the movie is lore-centric, it did not fall behind on the actions either, they gave us the best speedster fight from my girl Makkari and beautifully choreographed combat from Thena.
    Chloe Zhao made the magnitude of the story work. A very beautifully presented movie and one that I am happy with. I was always invested and even the end credits were interesting to watch. Eternals is better than critics are saying and this is why sites like Rotten Tomatoes shouldn’t be taken as gospel.
    I will not deny that the movie has its flaws, there are missteps but I like the way it set upped repercussions for future MCU movies.
    Could the movie have been better if it was a series or trilogy? Probably yes, only for more character development. We would have loved to see Phastos losing trust in humanity then finding love, see Druig slowly descending into tyranny, sprite finding the beauty of humanity and being envious of it and so many more.
    BTW, I completely love Druig, he’s the character I attach most with, he is my bias among the Eternals haha. Who’s yours?

Even the moments when she didn’t have lines, her facial expressions alone were enough.

Its still has very obvious signs of execution being off throughout the pacing. Mostly viewers would get bothered by Thena's odd mental jerking reasons that don't go well in particular scene plots like she pose as one of the powerful Eternal characters so what's up with that shit. Tp kinda answer the question concerning Tiamut's birth: The Celestials require intelligent life, which can be seen as a force or qn energy. I don't think it's an active thing but rather like an egg that requires warmth to hatch.
    I really loved the movie. It was a character driven story like we haven't seen in the MCU before. The mainfocus wasn't the deviants or even Tiamut hatching, but how love and friendship and family works in a way. And I really enjoyed those characters, because everyone of them had a standpoint, a point of view.
    There are some criticism I have - mostly that I wanted more Makkari. But then again it's amazing that she was the last Eternal we met and yet so many people fell in love with her character.
    But I think the characterisation was really beautiful and interesting. Ikaris might be seen just as a bad guy traitor, but he saw the rest of his family betraying their cause. He thought he was doing the right thing. Or Kingo, who had faith in Arishem, but decided against working against his family. Sprite, who was clearly almost angry at humans for showing her what she couldn't do but also angry with Arishem for making her that way - and she picked her side for her love and almost obsession with Ikaris.

I’ll take Eternals over the generic-ass “Ant-Man and the Wasp-esque” MCU movies any day of the week. The reviews worried me for that reason. We’ve all been saying that we want to see these movies trail off of the repetitive, generically-fine cookie-cutter path, and explore new stuff. Then they finally do and everyone shits on it. @@brennanbarber7469 Oh I agree with you. It's not on the bottom for me either, and I'd probably give it about 60%, and I appreciate the beautiful cinematics and trying to veer from the formula, but I think it deserved a better script. It felt to me like somebody wrote out the big set pieces in Babylon and Tenochtitlan first and then struggled connecting them to the present day story. And the story follows a formula of introducing a concept and then explaining it in a flashback and this repeats about three or four times. I think it could've been structured better. Maybe it could've benefited from being a mini-series, just to pace it a bit better and let us spend more time with the characters. Giving it 47% is definitely overdramatic, though, I've seen way worse movies in my life.

As humans begin to evolve, the Celestials also gain more energy to be created. When the snap happened, delayed the emergence. Then Endgame happened, bringing everyone back which caused the emergence to start again. Putting him to sleep and evacuating everyone would take years and years to do. Pretty simple premise. I friggin' LOVED this movie. I dunno what the critics watched, but it must not've been this. The location work was amazing, the cinematography was great, the whole movie had an like, end of winter, early spring, change of seasons vibe, which is so thematically relevant to the film. The Eternals motivation changes, the Earth is on the cusp of change into a Celestial, humanity is constantly changing and growing.
    And I LOVED that this movie was just as critical of humanity as much as it praised it, which many works lately have been all about how great humanity is now, when the truth is we're flipping AWFUL.
    The humor was sparser and lower key and not all over the place, frankly this movie was a breath of fresh air, cause the MCU while managing to still be great at what it does is that it is getting a little stale. "No Way Home" was a nostalgic treat with a promise at the end and things audiences really wanted to see for awhile, but "Eternals" is my top film of the phase so far. Possibly my favorite MCU film yet.
    In a way, this is like Age of Ultron, as much character, inwardly focused and down to Earth and less bombastic than most MCU films and critics were critical of that film despite it setting up so much of the story that followed.

    I finally watched it myself and gotta say, I just don't get the hate this movie got from the critics. Sure it has its issues , but i believe its a decent B- type movie

      @Kaiser24 true. i still find it super strange that many acted like it was flaming garbage which imo it's far from.

    I enjoyed watching Eternals, it’s funny because I watched it just yesterday out of boredom😂. But I wish they went more into depth in their characters because I didn’t feel for their deaths much, but for the most part the Eternals are dope af.

    Eternals is a pretty dang good movie with some beautiful imagery & themes and it did not deserve to be hated on just because a lot of people are simpletons and can’t broaden their skewed horizon, this movie has its flaws but people treated it like it was as bad as WW84…I’ll die on this hill
