Something that rarely gets talked about, is how many parents genuinely hate their own children. There are a lot of people who have kids that never wanted them in the first place. So, instead of using systemic tools like adoption, they choose to torture and hurt the kids as a catharsis for their hatred.

True. And I'm honestly not sure which ones are worse, the ones who consciously hate and bully their children, or the ones who don't consciously realize exactly how much they hate their children but do anyway because they're massive narcissists and can never actually love anyone. At least in the former case, it's obvious to the kid, and they can mount their own defense mechanisms; with the kind of insidious abuse seen in the latter cases, the kid usually won't come to terms with the fact until later in life, when they've already had these horribly fucked up behavior patterns irreversibly imprinted onto them. No child should ever be exposed to either kind of parent, though. To that point, if anyone is interested in losing a bit more faith in humanity, just go browse the r/raisedbynarcissists subreddit 😞

I think that's been my mother's goal. The bully who wants to act like a victim so they can get support and attention. I was ignored asking for help as a teen, being told I was over-reacting, then later how I needed help, but they wouldn't get me help until I tried to take my life. Even after that and multiple diagnosis including depression, their treatment of me never changed except to get worse. My narc mother wouldn't let me talk to family, and I recently found out why. It's because she's telling them that I'm abusive to her! Narcissists often go through a cycle of Bully, Savior, Victim, and it absolutely has to do with getting attention and sympathy. Ironic since they have zero sympathy for others.

I had a jealous psychopath mom who tried to intentionally f up all of my friendships (and psychologically terrorize my friends' moms) and would on the regular say shit like "Your mother is your only true friend". I could see her doing things like this if it had been that time. She would 100% try to ruin my life online and IRL. She really wanted to drive me to hurt myself and would actually suggest this from time to time. To this day, I don't tell her anything about my life in order to protect myself. I hope her daughter finds healing. That is some CPTSD shit. I don't think that is a fixable relationship. She may have to go NC with her mom someday. Something is broken, and it is NOT on the daughter to fix that. I wanted to believe that if I were good enough, or pretty enough, or got good enough grades and tried to meet her standards, she'd treat me better. Spoiler alert, she didn't. If there is one consolation, at least she didn't say "It's just a prank, you're too sensitive!" -- which is something akin to what I'd hear from my mom when she'd torture my stuffed animals when I was little, making me cry. Like I said, she was a sick, sick woman, and that was not the only way she was abusive. It would not surprise me if this mother's sickness manifested in other ways. I am glad she is at least being punished and that the world knows what she did.
