Amen! The guys on this channel are grown men with experience and skill. A lot of these other TH-camrs are kids with neither of those. They feel like they need the flashy stuff to be cool & relevant.

I may be the exception here, but I definitely care how they perform far more than how they look xD Gotta get some FluidFilm Black on that underbody! And I don't typically get too hung up on most parts, but every single K-Tuned piece looks to be of extremely high quality. Props to a company with a high attention to detail and polish.
"Looks to be of extremely high quality" Looks being the operative word, it seems allot of enthusiasts are having issues w/ multiple pieces from K-tuned not being reliable/failing prematurely. It's nice that there are options out there though.
So, I’m an aircraft mech and here’s what you can do to strip that thing in 10 minutes. Invest in a media/grit blaster which you may already have and run plastic beads through it. It will take off all of the paint and primer leaving the metal and even its conversion coating undisturbed. Plastic media is used on aluminum alloy and of course anything harder. It’s not as good for thorough corrosion removal but will remove some.
I used SmartStrip advanced paint remover to do my valve cover, and while not as effective as aircraft paint remover, it is pretty decent. It's also odorless and biodegredable, so you can do it inside a garage. I found it at Rona for about 30$
whenever i did my valve cover, i used Rustoleum Aircraft remover in the spray. we sell it at autozone and probably at oreily and advance too, in the paint section
11:05 Just a heads up, please don't wear any gloves when you are using power tools like a drill press, wearing gloves is very dangerous & your hand can easily get caught inside the spinning drill press. (this happened to the guy on American chopper)
Hey guys! FYI I did the valve cover on my own "ass2000" last year and I stripped it with "Dominion Sure Seal High Strength Paint Stripper." I'm Canadian too and grabbed it at the local crappy tire. In the body shop section. Worked perfectly. Probably took some days off my life but it was very fast! Keep up the great videos!
Oh man, that parts bolting-on segment was so satisfying. It's crazy how dialed K swaps are now. What an awesome home mechanic swap...still rooting for the ITR though! 😂
@@kw2519haven't done it but when looking into it, EG seems easier otherwise you need to use a DC Integra (or EG?) front subframe in an EK. Someone might correct me but that's where my research led and I think this EK already had the subframe swapped since it used to be K swapped.

I think EK is everywhere and cheap, so then I wouldn’t need a subframe swap. I’m honestly just looking at this as a fun way to fuck with Honda after decades with VW and Subaru Also, thank you for the info
@@kw2519 depending where you are in the world finding a clean EG might be pretty hard these days. EK too if you're in the Midwest (America). Haha. But yeah, EK chassis + EG/DC subframe and you'll be off to the races with a fun project. I'm in the same boat of just getting into Hondas this past year after decades of Nissans. My DC2 "restoration" is on my channel - super easy to work on chassis and the community has been great. I'd recommend it for sure.
I don't usually chemically strip stuff if I dont have to. Instead I use a combo of bead blasting and walnut shell, and I have a lot of different scotch brite looking wheels I use to finish. For valve covers it's super easy. I just cut out some plyboard and use threaded rods thru to plug/fasten to the board. Makes it easy to see/move without blasting inside it.
I just bought my ek hatch back from a friend that I used to own in 2007. It’s been sitting in a barn for 9 years can’t wait to get into restoring it. He’s also got a del sol si sitting for 10 years in a garage totally stock and great condition for a 1995. Would be cool to see you guys do a del sol.
i recently used brake-fluid DOT3- to strip metal parts from paint.. works like a charm. use a brush to get in on, wait for an hour, scrape it off, done!
Aircraft remover is still sold In the US all over the place. I got some from O’Reilly’s the other day, but MAN is it expensive! It’s nearly $80/gal now. Sucks when you need lots of it for things like wheels. Aircraft remover also makes a spray can that works really well too for smaller projects. My advice is to make a little vat and ‘dip’ the valve cover in it for about 30-45min and the paint falls right off.
Depending on what type of paint it is but I like using the red USA brake cleaner, making sure it's the red cap made in the US, or it won't have chlorine in it.
A good alternative paint stripper I've found is some stuff called "Citristrip". Doesn't have any toxic smells and it actually strips paint really well.
If your guys are planning to keep the stock injectors, have you thought about sending them out to get cleaned/balanced? I’ve used rc engineering but there’s probably something more local-ish for you guys. Any used car/engine I do it and it always makes the engine run way better and it’s only about $100 for 4 inj, full printout of cc’s and spray pattern before and after.
Stoked on the Honda content! Im in Nova Scotia and bought a 97 kswapped ITR from a guy in Richmond Hill Ont 6 years ago, still has the original kswap that was done in 2008-9. It has hasport mounts with no serial numbers ( I confirmed with them so you know it was done long ago) and the wiring is a mess BUT it still works perfectly. If it aint broke dont fix it.. I guess 🤣. Anyway this build series may finally give me the ambition to clean my car up a bit. 🙏🏻
Okay so here’s thing about the newer paint strippers. You have to apply it liberally but not too liberally. Think of a Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut. THEN, you have to drape a plastic bag on it and tap it on so it makes contact with every treated surface. It’s not the same as the good stuff but it’s the closest you will get. Good luck with all future projects, you’ve earned my sub.
Dupli-Color makes a really good paint stripper. At first I tried using aircraft stripper but it didn't do anything on my valve cover. Once I used Dupli-Colors paint stripper it started working immediately. That's what I would recommend!
You can actually still get aircraft remover in a brush-on form from Walmart, just got some a couple of weeks ago. Its in the paint/automotive section of the store
@@davidpac4 I have used it a lot and I have a brand new unopened can in my hands right now. The instructions do not require surface prep but paint stripper does not strip oil and scuffing the surface increases the contact area. Also the quart tin was/is a way better deal than the spray can.
Doesn't really matter since they reformulated the stripper because a chemical was outlawed for sale to the general public, you now need a license to order the stripper for powder coat. It's called B17
A stock master cylinder on all 96-00 hatchbacks and all dx, lx non abs coupes and sedans is a 13/16. 7/8 is off a Canadian si usdm ex model. 15/16 is off Canadian SiR and usdm Si. Integra had up to 1" options but integra boosters are also needed.
Great work! Found y’all through my suggested videos, instant subscribe. One bit of advice, when your using a drill press wouldn’t advise wearing gloves while it’s running. See many people get their hands/fingers tore up when the bit catches the gloves and pulls it in.

You gotta put the paint stripper and valve cover inside a bag so it doesn't evaporate, same concept of wrapping paint rollers/ brushes overnight if your not finished painting.

Ive got a 9th gen si (car in my profile pic) that i wish had a k20 head. Ive got the k24z7 already and a lsd 6 speed with full bolt ons and dyno tuned on hondata. I would love if you guys did an all motor build series on my car and did a k20 head swap and maybe a different clutch to hold the power. Man a guy can wish right??? I would give u guys full rights to do what ever u wanted and all the time you needed. You guys rock!!
the valvetrain is a good reference to care taken on the engine however the crankcase is where you really find out with the k series being 22 years old now and common head gasket failures,.. I wouldnt be suprised if the head has been cleaned/machined or replaced if it were running Mobil1 its whole life you'd swear it was a brand new engine when you opened it
You guys hit the nail on the head in regards to certain chemicals that made paint stripper of the past very effective recently being outlawed. But consider also that honda uses a very high quality, chemical resistant coating on their valve covers... I usually glass bead them first, then use 2 or 3 treatments of paint remover and scraping and media blast again. Repeat if necessary. That coating is tough! 😂
To chemically strip it.. I get the gel aircraft remover and soak it, then put it in a plastic trash bag. Then it keeps it wet and eating that paint. Usually strips anything clean in 15 minutes give or take
💯 Your comment about appearance vs performance lol. Side note, I inherited a 2008 Honda Accord w/auto trans and I'm wanting to put that motor in an early 90's hatchback. Like an EG or something. I've never messed with these things so I'm following for sure 🤙
My experience with paint stripper, heat has a lot to do with it. Pre-heating the part and keeping it warm helps the chemical reaction. But yeah, the old Aircraft Paint Remover stuff was pretty gnarly, worked really well, RIP.
It's hard to enjoy performance virtually through TH-cam. But we can live our tunerboy fantasies vicariously through the build process and final results.
The retail paint stripper works much better if you spray it on super heavy then wrap it up in a trash bag so it doesn't evaporate out as fast. Do all my valve covers with it
thank god we are back into some cool cheap cars on big builds =) not a fan of the legend builds with so many unrealistic prices now and days......love the channel thou keep it up.
On my eg8 I used Klean Strip Premium Stripper stuff works great cleaned my whole engine bay in 2 coats and extra tip at the end you could use a wheel brush might make a mess but I had plastic up!! 👍
Klean Strip, premium stripper, "removes paint epoxy polyurethane from metal wood & masonry" patent pending just used last night after same situation no more aircraft stripper available and to my surprise it worked like a charm might only be on shelf in the states though I'd bet you can get it shipped online
I'm here for the technical bits, good looking work is a nice byproduct though. I've got love for old Hondas and what they did in their time, but we all know that K is indeed the way. Looking forward to hearing about the de-boosted brakes, and hoping that we get an update episode on Connie's brakes as well😉A booster delete would free up valuable space for a BEAMS swapped RA24...here's hoping that's a possibility.
Hey guys I’m still watching the episode but I figure I’d let you know about safe n’ easy paint stripper gel. I’ve been using it and it pulls paint off really well and I got a bottle for 12 bucks. You’ll have to use a brush but seems to work extremely well! Hope that helps. Keep up the awesome videos!
Aircraft stripper is still available in the states. It's available pretty much everywhere. I always degrease and clean the parts I'm gonna strip first so it can work better.

Fun fact: you don’t HAVE to use a heat gun on the VHT wrinkle paint. Yes it will speed up the wrinkle, but it is not necessary. Personally, I think the wrinkle comes out better WITHOUT the heat gun. I’ve done it that way three times with great results! Be patient. Give it 24 hours to dry/wait for the wrinkle to form naturally.
I used aircraft stripper and it didn’t do anything. The jasco worked flawlessly for me. It was on a set of TRD factory powder coated wheels too, which is tough as nails.
I've noticed that when PT is doing something like say....tearing down an engine etc., he goes into a Zen-like trance, whereas Dave becomes locked-in and laser-focused.

First thing we got taught in the workshop was to wear cotton drill overalls, and not to wear gloves or jewellery when on rotating machinery
No hoodies with strings or anything
literally that is my greatest fear when using a drill press.

Brake Fluid eats paint like nobody’s buisness. For cleaning the aluminum Easyoff Oven cleaner works amazing.

Painted my valve cover last week and picked up some of that aircraft stripper at my local store so its still available

For the valve cover stripping get some gum cutter or use some brake fluid apply and let it sit then power wash it.

Rust-Oleum in a gallon paint stripper. I use it all the time. Not the spray, the gel goop stuff. Paint it on with a brush.

If you sand the surface of whatever you want to strip with 400-600 grit, it helps give even the cheapo stuff a bit more of a chance to work.

You can’t strip powder coating with paint stripper. Try putting it in an oven and then scraping it off. Alternatively you can sand blast it away.

Ive got a 9th gen si (car in my profile pic) that i wish had a k20 head. Ive got the k24z7 already and a lsd 6 speed with full bolt ons and dyno tuned on hondata. I would love if you guys did an all motor build series on my car and did a k20 head swap and maybe a different clutch to hold the power. Man a guy can wish right??? I would give u guys full rights to do what ever u wanted and all the time you needed. You guys rock!!
the valvetrain is a good reference to care taken on the engine however the crankcase is where you really find out
with the k series being 22 years old now and common head gasket failures,.. I wouldnt be suprised if the head has been cleaned/machined or replaced
if it were running Mobil1 its whole life you'd swear it was a brand new engine when you opened it

You guys hit the nail on the head in regards to certain chemicals that made paint stripper of the past very effective recently being outlawed. But consider also that honda uses a very high quality, chemical resistant coating on their valve covers... I usually glass bead them first, then use 2 or 3 treatments of paint remover and scraping and media blast again. Repeat if necessary. That coating is tough! 😂
To chemically strip it.. I get the gel aircraft remover and soak it, then put it in a plastic trash bag. Then it keeps it wet and eating that paint. Usually strips anything clean in 15 minutes give or take
💯 Your comment about appearance vs performance lol. Side note, I inherited a 2008 Honda Accord w/auto trans and I'm wanting to put that motor in an early 90's hatchback. Like an EG or something. I've never messed with these things so I'm following for sure 🤙
My experience with paint stripper, heat has a lot to do with it. Pre-heating the part and keeping it warm helps the chemical reaction. But yeah, the old Aircraft Paint Remover stuff was pretty gnarly, worked really well, RIP.

The retail paint stripper works much better if you spray it on super heavy then wrap it up in a trash bag so it doesn't evaporate out as fast. Do all my valve covers with it
thank god we are back into some cool cheap cars on big builds =) not a fan of the legend builds with so many unrealistic prices now and days......love the channel thou keep it up.
On my eg8 I used Klean Strip Premium Stripper stuff works great cleaned my whole engine bay in 2 coats and extra tip at the end you could use a wheel brush might make a mess but I had plastic up!! 👍

Klean Strip, premium stripper, "removes paint epoxy polyurethane from metal wood & masonry" patent pending just used last night after same situation no more aircraft stripper available and to my surprise it worked like a charm might only be on shelf in the states though I'd bet you can get it shipped online
needs an s2k clutch master! would clean the back corner up a bit and less leak points everything built into one!
I used CRC gasket remover from my local napa to strip my 2JZ valve covers, they worked very well after two passes
I've tried it, it won't dissolve Hondas powder coat, you need B17, which needs a license to order
Dot3 brake fluid is a good paint stripper. Takes awhile, but works.
Dustless Blasting/Wet Blasting is the ticket and affordable for a part of that size.
Just bought some "aircraft remover" from autozone down here in california. Stripped paint off all my old diesel engine parts in minutes.
Eastwood used to sell some pink stuff that stripped paint like crazy, and it wasn’t as toxic as aircraft paint remover
I'm here for the technical bits, good looking work is a nice byproduct though.
I've got love for old Hondas and what they did in their time, but we all know that K is indeed the way. Looking forward to hearing about the de-boosted brakes, and hoping that we get an update episode on Connie's brakes as well😉A booster delete would free up valuable space for a BEAMS swapped RA24...here's hoping that's a possibility.

Hey guys I’m still watching the episode but I figure I’d let you know about safe n’ easy paint stripper gel. I’ve been using it and it pulls paint off really well and I got a bottle for 12 bucks. You’ll have to use a brush but seems to work extremely well! Hope that helps. Keep up the awesome videos!

Aircraft stripper is still available in the states. It's available pretty much everywhere. I always degrease and clean the parts I'm gonna strip first so it can work better.

Fun fact: you don’t HAVE to use a heat gun on the VHT wrinkle paint. Yes it will speed up the wrinkle, but it is not necessary. Personally, I think the wrinkle comes out better WITHOUT the heat gun. I’ve done it that way three times with great results! Be patient. Give it 24 hours to dry/wait for the wrinkle to form naturally.
I used aircraft stripper and it didn’t do anything. The jasco worked flawlessly for me. It was on a set of TRD factory powder coated wheels too, which is tough as nails.
I've noticed that when PT is doing something like say....tearing down an engine etc., he goes into a Zen-like trance, whereas Dave becomes locked-in and laser-focused.
