A ridiculously wet camp near the summit of Helvellyn with constant rain and 50mph gusts! Definitely my wettest ever wild camp which tested my kit to its limit especially my Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 tent. I learnt I need a better backpack cover as after all that rain everything was soaked. My Forest Gump attempt?… I’ll stick to my day job.
Mountain camping in wet and windy conditions is made safer by having the correct equipment with you. When you are wet you lose heat from your body around 20 times faster so it can become very dangerous very quickly. Please take care out there and of your dogs.

After reading about the number of people who have needed mountain rescue recently, it was good to hear you talk about your safety. I generally walk alone and I’m always thinking about what will happen if I have an accident. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
I have no problems with changing my plan and heading back somewhere safer if needed. It’s part of it being able to adapt.

Make sure you always carry a PLB.. it’s very reassuring when walking alone, though I now take mine everywhere since my daughter severely twisted her ankle on a little fell in the rain when no one else was around.
@@pcr8918 can you tell me what plb stands for? I may even have one already but I wanna check anyway. Will probably be takin our kids campin for their first time next yr and wouldn't wanna miss out any safety gear. This is not a sarcastic reply! :)

Love camping in the rain but warm and dry is a must! Blue 's face when packing up was priceless, he wasn't so sure it was a good idea. That is the thing with a bivy, unless i t is totally breathable there is gonna be moisture inside, especially around the footbox. Feet sweat more than people think they do. Lol. Thanks for sharing your rainy campout! :) :)
Yes the usual rain sound is lovely. This was a bit much 😂. This was actually water from the outside as my feet were off the end of the mat. Not too impressed by the bivvy but it’s enough to protect the sleeping bag.

😂😂😂 the problem with TV is they set things up… id prefer to keep it real! No hotels for me😂. That was the first time the tent dripped in a bit so I’ll be sealing it. I’m going to get an abisko 2 at some point. 😉

Loved it when it was time to take the tent down and blue was stood by the side of it sheltering from the wind. Hes tough as nails by the seems.
He definitely is conditioned to these adventures. Once I dropped the tent he went and sheltered over the edge. He’s not daft! Not as daft as me 😂

Absolutely agree while you are there it is at times miserable but pushing through it makes you feel great afterwards.

Only discovered you recently. I'm really enjoying your videos with blue. You've got to admit that spending the night up there in that weather knowing you've got the right kit with you is a great feeling. I camped on Glaramara once in almost similar conditions however I've got to admit you win in the bad weather competition.

that was great, camping in these conditions is the best. one thing that helps reduce the condensation you experienced is to put all your wet gear into dry bags and roll them up otherwise it all just ends up on the inside of the fly sheet. Looks like you had a blast there and Blue looked happy enough too, nothing seems to bother him!

That was brilliant Alan, I’ve been up there in them conditions and it’s amazing how quick the driving rain goes through the Goretex clothing, once the tent is up and you’re in your sleeping bag in your dry kit it’s like heaven 😊😊 I use my ex Army Goretex sleeping bag liner, they are brilliant if not a little heavy but well worth the dryness and extra warmth in the winter. I'm glad you said "If your body can do it, get it done." Sadly my body can't do this type of camping any more but I do still love to go camping even though now I have to "play ladies" and have a camp stretcher as I'm not allowed to ever kneel again...specialist's orders. I used to camp in my swag or smaller tents etc. but now I can only do it through watching people like you getting out there and doing it and it brings back so many memories of some of the camps I have done. Thanks for taking us along with you and Blue.

Just got back from wild camp in the Brecon Beacons thinking that 13 hours in a tent was an age but at least it only rained occasionally and I got a decent kip. My biggest problem was flat gopro batteries that I thought I'd charged before I left! You've made an awesome video of an epic trip once more. And I love Blue's expressions on this one!

Brilliant 🤩 I agree entirely with your philosophy do these things when you can life is too short. I was up Helvellyn on Wednesday in the thick fog, rain and strong wind at summit blew my glasses off. Found them thankfully. I can l’t imagine camping up there in that weather. I loved every minute but was relieved to get down safely to return to normal life 👍🇬🇧😄

awesome again, i agree with the summary of waterproofs - the more expensive, the longer you will stay dry. i carry a poncho for deluge conditions, but not really feasible in strong winds, it just gives the main jacket a help out when the chips are down.

@@BUSHMANandBLUE I’ve only been wild camping since the start of lockdown and I’ve seen all you’re videos man you’re an inspiration I was camping at trollers Gill at the weekend and did all the leadmines at the top of Grassington was going to camp in or near a cave, but after you’re cave experience 🪰 I give that a miss hahaha
I love trollers Gill. As for caves I love them too but that cave was awful mainly because of the shite! Smaller caves would better.
I used to let the weather ruin my camping holidays. I have mellowed out a bit in old age, but I sure wish I had had your videos or positivity 40 years ago!!!
