    I made the broth a couple of weeks ago and stuck it in the freezer. I defrosted the broth last night and had a hot pot party. Broth was extremely good. AND, the peanut sesame sauce was a BIG hit. One thing though, the video shows adding cilantro to the food processor when making the sauce but the recipe doesn't list cilantro as an ingredient. I just eyeballed the amount of cilantro on the video and threw some in. AMAZING.

    I lived in Taiwan for 14 years and think Ma La Huo Guo Spicy Hot Pot is one of the best foods in the world. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I suggest adding vinegar to the egg and BBQ sauce, it is so good. We als get Sichuan packages from the grocery store, it is not the best but it is acceptable.

    Guess what we are having for Christmas dinner. We have had Sukiyaki several times and thought it was time to try something new. I think we may be making dumplings as well. My mother was an English teacher in Japan and we had Asian food as often as we had Western food. I am getting a head start by make my the broth now. I just started cooking it and it already smells so good.

    man, there are so many shitty comments about Sue's demeanor and appearance and the fact that she's doing hot pot her own way. Food is food and every home has their own way of cooking no matter what part of the world you come from. I'm actually in the process of making this broth for use in other dishes. It looks really good and I hope my version of it turns out good too.

    This is such a cute video! I adore the outtakes at the end. So similar to how I know to make hotpot. With all the same ingredients although we include lobo in the broth as the first ingredient to cook. We also only use yolks in the sauce and put whites in hotpot. I would start with Napa a little before other vegetables then taro. I also like to add gailan. Oh, how I can not wait for fall/winter to make this with my family. ♡ Thank you for making this video. It was a pleasure to watch.

    not raised in Asia nor am I Asian, but i'm pretty sure that slow cooker isn't gonna cook your food properly, maybe in 2 hours... maybe

    Well, in Malaysia we call it "Steamboat" instead of hotpot, but its the same thing.
    And its fucking delicious and good for friends gathering together.
    Normally we eat it when a bunch of friends are having a trip over to some mountains or hills, generally cold places since Malaysia is fucking hot. We would bring all the ingredients to there and cook it there.

      @sirrington 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +kwxj61b Not even, most of the time it's the ordinary hotpot pot with a premade soup, water, or sachet favouring.
      Also nobody puts Tomatoes in hotpot, that'd be terrible.

    • @aznpwnsalot
      @aznpwnsalot 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Ludwig Wittfagstein ........Nope. completely wrong. That is a completely abc type of hotpot. What she made is not taiwaness. It's more likely to be a mix of influence of japanese and northerner's hotpot with the peanut paste and all.
      As for tomatoes. Yes you do. For plain hotpot, always tomatoes. It enhances the flavour of the soup. You don't eat it, it's a spice.

    TAIWANESE HOT POT?! I've NEVER seen a hot pot like that being a Taiwanese and having lived in Taiwan all my life! The dipping sauce in Taiwan is that 沙茶醬 Taiwanese barbecue sauce mixed with soy sauce, black or white vinegar, sesame oil, then a raw yolk. Maybe some chopped green onions and mashed garlic or ginger.
    What's that with peanut butter and all that nonsense?!

    • @williammiao8862
      @williammiao8862 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guest the peanut butter is just there to duplicate the flavor of 麻醬

    What the shit is this? I grew up in Taiwan, while I appreciate that she tried to make things from scratch, I don't think I've ever seen anyone go this far to prep the soup base, people usually just use chicken stock or if you want the spicy kind they have pre-packaged mix you can buy. And boiling water is a must, not this Crock Pot slow-cooker BS, people usually use a portable propane or electric cooktop with a big pot.

    This is done wrong. Wrong pot too. The soup should be boiling the entire time until you're finished eating so anything you put in there cooks fast, especially meats should be dipped n' done otherwise they'll be too chewy.

    in a slowcooker pot? and 'sah-jah' sauce lol.... -_-
    would definitely agree that this should not be called 'Taiwanese Hot Pot' though, the only thing that could be labeled Taiwanese about it is the second sauce.
