*We know comments were disabled for the first few hours, we think it’s fixed now, and would love to hear what you guys think of the video!* Does anyone else use everything except a hammer to hammer stuff into walls? Can you count how many different tools we used instead of just finding a hammer? 😅😂
Beautiful people! Amazing job on the compost toilet! Robbie shows the skills, strength, and determination to be a great homesteader. I've been homesteading for 25 years so I know how challenging it is, particularly in the beginning. Sage is just 2 years old and he can hammer, dig with a pick axe, and use handsaws. He's so strong! You two should start a school called, "School for the Proper Development of a Human Being". One thing you do that I think is very important is that you don't baby talk Sage. You speak to him as you would to adults, which I believe imparts respect, and accelerates his learning. Keep up the good work!
Hello cloud people, loved the video and I'm glad we can enjoy the comments too. The wildlife on your mountain is remarkable and Sage is going to be a real expert zoologist..or a builder..or an electrician. Top content peepole❤
Yes it was quite a challenge! Robbie has been drinking a teaspoon of salt with every bottle of water so he doesn't get dehydrated! We could really do with air conditioning in our little one room living space! ❤️
Hey guys, hello from Canada, it was very special again to visit you online, I am absolute thrilled what you accomplish, am mostly I like so much how much love you invest in the little man and how you teach him on his way to become an adult a man,and it s amazing how much he gets in to it, you are wonderful people and wonderful parents
Hey Roland! Thank you for your kind comments! And thanks so much for hitting the subscribe button on our channel! So cool you're watching from Canada... I'm sure a little more greenery where you live!!? Sage is such a joy, he makes us laugh out loud all day, don't know what we'd be doing on this mountain without him! ❤️
I'm loving this video so much. Great cinematography and I love the longer format. Your family is so sweet and beautiful. Sage is such a delight and is going to have such an advanced understanding of physics and engineering. Thank you for taking us all along for the ride. 💙
Thank you for your lovely comment, such a nice thing to say. It means the world to us you're enjoying our videos and supporting us on our little mission! ❤️
Thank you Elizabeth for your words of encouragement! It's great to have you on this journey with us and thank you supporting our family with lovely comments like this ❤️
Love it. Re what you say at the end about it taking time - my experience of doing what you are is, just as you're getting good at something, it's done, and you move on to being a beginner at the next thing. Love the humour in your videos, they're a delight.
Thanks Pete! Some words of wisdom there. For sure, so many jobs you think you're going to know how to do, then you realise the situation is completely different to before and you have to learn a bunch of new stuff again! Thank you for the encouragement it means the world to us you're enjoying our videos! ❤️
Loving how the bog is coming along. Also how Sage development, especially his dexterity is very advanced. This shows how much you are both putting in on him. The lightbulb moment, with regards the leaky read bed tank was 😂 & something most of us would happen too.
Thanks so much for your kind comment, we really appreciate your ongoing support for our family! Sage for sure surprises us everyday with all his new skills, it's amazing how fast he learns from just quietly watching us. Yes wow - the evaporation was such a surprise!!! ❤️
Thank you Bobby Ziggy! That's a really kind thing to say. It's good to hear we're on the right track with Sage. Our first time learning to be parents! ❤️
Oh my!!! Another family settling in Portugal!!! I love to see it!!! What a beautiful family too! I will have to see more videos to catch up. Love that night cam. I hope one or some of them become friendlies!🦋 Edit: You're in Spain!!!!😅 That's cool too!🎉
Thank you for your sweet comment! We hope you enjoy our other videos too, please let us know! Yes so many cool night cams, looking forward to checking our cameras this month too, although it's usually about 1,000 videos of wild boar, and then one or two videos of other animals haha. We love the boar though they're so cool to watch! Thank you for supporting our family it means the world to us ❤️
Congratulations, it's nice to see that you've found a wonderful place to live and where you can live as you please. I must admit that you inspire healthy envy, two people with clear ideas and determined to carry them out, and he's also a handyman. Good luck.
Thank you Carlos, we really appreciate the words of encouragement! We're certainly working hard to try and create a nice life for our family on this mountain, your support means the world to us ❤️
You Guys are perfect - I men - men is verry handyman - professional - lady is bountiful and also supports a lot - and baby is composition both of you. I am watching closely- Project progress - whishing all the best. Please continue. Spain - maintains - unbelievable. Wishing Good luck.
Thank you so much for your kind words Boguslaw! They are very motivational for us to hear! So glad you're enjoying our videos and thank you for leaving a comment and supporting our little family on this journey! ❤️
Thank you Omur, that's a lovely thing to say! We really appreciate your support! We're working full time shooting and editing our videos, hopefully we'll be upgrading our camera and editing software soon so we're a bit quicker! ❤️
Very beautiful video, as usual. You seem to have been successful protecting your fruit and vegetable garden from wild animals. It must be so satisfying.
Thank you Tristan! Oh yes, everyday we are grateful our fence is working! Although right now we've got an infestation of flying beetles eating our fruit trees which unfortunately our fence doesn't stop haha! ❤️
Haha for sure, we're always marvelling at his perfect posture when he's helping us out - especially lifting that 15kg pick and digging holes! Thank you for your love and support for our little family Jim, we really appreciate it ❤️
Manly moment at @29:14 when he just walked up to mom and took charge of the pickaxe and promptly put it to work. That put a smile on my face haha too funny.
Thanks Erik! Haha there are certainly a lot of random holes all around our farm! He keeps digging holes and burying random lengths of tube in them. That pick is pretty heavy as well! ❤️
Always a pleasure to see how you are getting on. Summer must be hot there. No wonder you didn't finish the outhouse. Apart from the fact that you've chosen a futurist perfecto design. I built mine in two days. Do you know that waste turns into something that looks like chainshaw chips after a period of rest? No smell at all. Makes great compost.
Thank you Adrian for all your ongoing support! A futurist perfecto design - we'll take that haha, sounds cool! Summer has been intense, it's a constant battle to stay hydrated, we've been drinking a lot of sea salt in water. Hmm... in hindsight maybe we should have gone with a simpler design and built ours in 2 days as well, it just kind of ran away with us! Yes we're definitely going to store the compost for 12 months then use on our trees! ❤️
Thank you Vincent! So happy to hear that! Maybe in future we will manage to post episodes more frequently, when we've figured it all out a bit better! We really appreciate your love and support for our little family! ❤️
Wade is absolutely adorable and he’s learning to use tools and carrying his electric wire like he’s on a serious mission!😮😊I really love watching your progress and enjoy the way you work together. Keep up the great work 😊
You are not the slowest builders in the world, on the contrary, the joy is in the building, so make it to last a lifelong. Creating things delivers drops of odd satisfaction at every bit when you stand back and gaze at what you have built. You are living extraordinary lives, incredibly privileged (by your own merit and also with the help of mother nature who made you so perfect). In order to appreciate the life you have, once a year spend a couple of days living in the suburb areas of Madrid, 30 kms from it like Humanes, Getafe (or Brixton in London for that matter), commuting on the subway at 7 in the morning to go to the factory, return in the evening to a filthy miserable 58 m2 apartment, rude, noisy neighbors, insecurity on the streets, queuing up for basically everything. That is how the vast majority of Spaniards live. If someone like you two decided to do what you did, that means it is the right thing to do almost for everyone. But not everyone can.
Hi, I forgot to mention I love the heads up display you have in your toilet, that must’ve cost a fortune to put that in, at least you can see where everything is clean or not, 😂❤,
Good morning 🌅, Great to see you all again, I went to leave a comment earlier but the comments were turned off, congratulations happy birthday, 🥳 I have forgotten what I was going to say, I love sage’s hair style, and I had to laugh 😆 when you got your hair caught in your hairdryer, As it reminded of me when I was a little kid, my mother had just been to the hairdresser two or three days previous, she was doing her hair again in the mirror, I had a clockwork windup train, it used to make a funny noise, I said mum mum listen to this, I put the clockwork train up to ear 👂 and caught her hair in the cogs, luckily it didn’t pull her hair out, but my father had to cut the hair from my train, 🚂, they weren’t very happy, I was sent to my bedroom, Your fruit and veggie garden looks amazing now getting well established, And the mounting peaks still look beautiful, amazing scenery as well, 😂, not sure whether you have problems with drilling holes into the building, I used to use a smaller masonry bit first, and do not use it on Hammer, just let the drill do the work, Then I will go through with the drill size I needed, I must admit, I did buy some special masonry bits. I believe there were quite expensive, but they are very good at drilling holes without doing too much damage., I see you are putting in warm air underfloor heating system into your outside toilet, it looks very Roman like, and it will be great. See you step up to the Throne , is it one that washes you at the same time?, 😂😂😂, 🚿🧼🚿, 😂, that was great at the end seeing the wildlife on your cameras I thought I saw something quite rare, Nipping past in the distance, 😂, just a thought ever thought about getting some walkie-talkies, so you can call each other if you need something or have a problem, Hopefully, things will not take so long 😂, I presume at some point you will be building your infinity pool, 🏊 😂😂😂, good luck with your projects for the future, stay safe, Keep up the amazing work you’re all doing very good job , even Sage with the pickaxe ⛏️, ❤ from France. ,
Thank you Phil! So grateful for all your kind comments and support! Sages hair is amazing, Emilia says she will only cut it when Sage asks! So I guess it will just keep getting longer! Haha that story about the train is hilarious, you have to be careful! Good tip about not putting it on hammer, we'll try that next time! Not underfloor heating system - it's an air extraction duct for the compost bin area to allow the mulch to break down and keep smells far far away! Yes please to an infinity pool!!! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman good morning 🌅, I hope you are keeping safe and well, I was joking 🙃 about the under floor heating, as you were using those blocks with holes going through them, it just reminded me of the Roman building 🏛️ technique, for doing under floor heating, they would build a fire 🔥 outside so the warm air circulation through the underfloor heating system, Hypocaust , which the Roman invented. Going back to your wall rendering cracking, as it was quite a long ago, I can’t remember how you done it, Did you put a wire mesh around the outside of the building before rendering the plaster cement?, There is a pit called plasticiser which you put in with your plaster or cement that helps you when rendering and bond to the wall, another way is using water down PVA though this can be very very messy you paint this onto the wall and if I remember rightly as it is quite a few years since I’ve done it you them apply your cement before just before it goes off, and of course I know you had the problems with extreme heat over there, and something else I thought about was your cement plaster very old, or were they new bags?, Keep up the great work look forward to seeing you all in the not too distant future next stage of your Homestead build , 💋❤️🌹🏛️
Haha ah yes our unpopular decision to us open holed tiled blocks! We should have added some of that plastering mesh yes, we added quite a bit of steel in the walls though so figured there wouldn't be too many cracks. And yes PVA mixed with water - that's a good trick, we should have used that on the cast concrete areas at the top, that's a good idea for next time. We always use fresh cement, Robbie is very intense when it comes to good quality cement haha! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman Good morning 🌅, there is supposed to be a comet visible in the night sky and September October, I’m not quite sure what part of the world it’s going to be visible in, I know you live in part of Spain where it is very dark at night, Good luck, I hope you find this interesting, 🤔. France
Wow cool we'll keep a look out! We definitely feel very aware of the stars these days, it's nice they play a much bigger role in your life when you live on a dark mountain! ❤️
İt's nice to see the videos from you all the time.also more often would be nice.I like the way of how you live, combined life style, not only the things what you do as work. btw happy birthday ,wishing great life with the family🎉
Thank you Uğur for your kind words! Good to hear you like the lifestyle + work together, we're never really sure what people like watching! We're trying our best to shoot videos more often, hopefully we'll get quicker over time, we're still very new to youtube! Thank you for the birthday wishes ❤️
Thanks Cristian! Yes such a nice perspective up here on the mountain! We're at 760m up, not sure how high Bernia is but we must be pretty close to equivalent height. Where are you based? Thanks for leaving us a comment and supporting our channel! ❤️
Thank you Clarisse! Receiving packages here is always a challenge, they always arrive, we just have to ask all the neighbours in the village until it turns up! It's a different postal service than living in a city that's for sure! We'll let you know ! ❤️
Thank you Mr Blue Sky, we certainly feel proud every time we use it! I don't think we will ever lose our appreciation for just how great the whole experience is! Thanks so much for the comment and supporting our channel, it means the world to us! 🧡
Thanks Neil! Yes thankfully they came back on! Didn't realise that so many people like to read the comments, it's really nice to see people missed them! ❤️
I don't understand why you are still only on 28k subscribers when your videos are absolutely inspiring, entertaining, a source of learning, you two are very kind and were that not enough the young lady is paradise to behold. I would do patreon but I am living on 637 euros a month that will be my pension , I just have for food and for the utility bills. But you are still doing way better than me, I have 353 videos where I teach Arabic, Russian, German, Dutch, Spanish, Artificial Intelligence, Python, etc and in 4 years 304 subscribers :))) (in my case I prefer it so, as I don't want ties )
That's a very kind thing to say, we're so glad you're enjoying our videos! Sounds like you have accomplished something really cool with your channels, well done! Do you speak all those languages?!! And great that you are doing something for yourself which can be very freeing in itself! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman The key to learning a language is to confront grammar head-on. It is very important that everything is contained in one single book (old books without pictures are the best) so that key info is not fragmented in several books. Very important is that the book concentrates on the essentials, don't go for too thick books (like books devoting five chapters for phonetics, wrong). Identify and note the phrases that represent examples of constructions like simple future, future perfect, conditional, etc. Learn one sample of each by heart and understand how that has been constructed. That is it. Then you just need the vocabulary In the case of German or Russian (and all declension-based languages), you would need to learn by heart the declensions, which would take a week or two. Language academies could not be less interested in anyone learning quickly as they would lose students. They try to make of learning languages something easy and fun, so they waste months and years with class games, pictures, memes and the like and never explain one subject in one year, they leave the rest of that subject for the year after, wrong, lessons should not be fragmented once you have decided to go for it. Women are very good at learning by chatting though.
Wow that's interesting, you're very skilled in the art of learning languages! Such a cool thing to be an expert in! Robbie agrees about 1 book for everything, he had one ginormous mathematics book for aerospace engineering and it took him 4 years to learn it all by heart, but it's nice to know you only have 1 book to master and once you've learnt it then you're good! I like learning by chatting that's true!
@@ladyandtheowlman Wow, math is a trillion times more complex than languages, can't compare it. Languages are extremely easy to learn (well, except Chinese of which I know nothing). You will have to learn Spanish because it is needed for your social and business life there. I am totally sure that you will master it in a heartbeat. It is a fact that people who are also gifted in their physique (both of you) they are also more intelligent (as unfair as this is). Because their neural networks in their brains are also guided by the same "genes of perfection" ( I published several research papers on pharmacogenomics). What happens in our societies is that unattractive people try to make it up by working 10 times harder, than the handsome people while many attractive women (and men, just think of movie actresses and actors) have the social intelligence to realize that with less effort they can find easier ways even through life although they are actually more intelligent than those who educated themselves to exhaustion. Jason Statham is highly intelligent, but also very attractive, so he definitively chose the right path.
dBuenos notches you too, hope you have all safely gathered in as a lot of rain heading in your direction next week, looks like 4 maybe 5 days of the wet stuff but will let you know a bit nearer time as you know what these forecasters are like, might 1 day might be 10. When it does come then you need to get your crops in for winter harvest.
It all sounds very promising Robert!!! Fingers crossed! We need a ginormous rain to recharge the aquifer in our valley, then our spring will be good again for another year or two. It seems so strange we have a spring at the top of the mountain, it doesn't seem to have much catchment, so we're thinking it comes from the aquifer lower down in the valley and is pushed up through the ground to the top of our mountain somehow! Emilia is planting like crazy right now, haha very wishful thinking, we are manifesting good things! ❤️
Thank you McElron for subscribing! So many veggies we're living our veggie dream right now! Although garden is a little dry after the summer, things will be more luscious next year with our new 100,000 litre water tank! ❤️
Evening you lucky pair. I see you get the rain I promised you today. we got 30 seconds if that. So now you will have plenty rain for the rest of the year. If you have some to spare send a bit my way.
Morning you 2, hope you have seen all the very wild weather around the world of late. Most of central and eastern Europe under water and Vietnam, Burma, Tyland violent Typhoon and yesterday Shanghai got devastated by a huge Typhoon. Don't panic as you are next starting tomorrow you will get all the rain you need to last a year as when it starts it's hard to tell at this point when it will stop. Nice and steady to start with a let up on Sunday but more in the wings. I 'll give you a better idea on Sunday when I see what materialises, but you won't be short of water this autumn.
Thanks Robert, just coming back to this! All the farmers said they've never seen a drought like the one we've just had in more than 100 years! So it's nice to hear that the hopefully this doesn't happen again for a while! But we will be prepared next time with our 100,000 litre water tank! It's so green at the moment, feels like we live in colombia or somewhere equatorial! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman Yes well had rain at last, but only 1/2 what was forecast, my resurvey is 35,000 gallons and still have 10,000 left so hope I don't need it now, but is there just in case, but my forecast for the next 3 months is not good.. So might need it yet as carrots beetroot are through and just planted broccoli and spuds shoul be up in a couple of weeks, all for Christmas dinner, when I hope to have a young lady with me, if all goes well. I am about fed up of being alone. So hope this one can solve that problem.
@@ladyandtheowlman Am on quarts so dug a big whole with a watermine running in and took 2 seasons for the walls to seal.I can do without a lot of things but not a woman as keeps me sane
What a beautiful family! Each person is beautiful, but...being a man (even if an old one), Emilia takes the cake. Apart from the scenery. The world around you is most beautiful of all. I know those who comment always want to tell you what you ought to have done, or could do. I can't resist either. Eat those wild goats and pigs! I'd love a meal of one of those when I come to visit. But you guys are probably vegans, or at least not hunters of the world's remaining wild things.
Thank you Adrian for all your lovely comments! It really is a beautiful place we live, and sometimes you can take it for granted when you're working so hard, but thank you for reminding us! The view of the mountain always takes your breath away... when you take the time to look up! Haha no we're no vegans, we like organic meat! We spend quite a lot of our monthly budget on organic meat from a long way away, so yes we need a plan to catch some local goats/ pigs - any ideas? How would you do it? ❤️
I don't know if you can reveal this info, if not, that is ok, I understand. The question: in order to visualize the magnitude of your feat, the mental jump, the power of your initiative, how much did you pay for what you bought and what % of your total money did that represent? Apparently you bought a piece of a mountain and you are turning it into a mansion. Was there any house there? I am just blown away at what you are building.
Thanks again for another comment! We spent 50% of our budget on the house, then another 50% renovating it for 2 years, so we could live in it, although the house only has one small liveable room at the moment, so we have a lot more to do, in fact it's probably going to take the rest of our lives to renovate! ❤️
you should think about adding some muscles/oysters to your second tank to clean up the murkiness. they'll filter that whole tank within a week, no electricity required.
@@ladyandtheowlman if you search "oyster water cleaning" on here, there's a whole bunch of videos showing them in action. not sure if they'll need additional feeding, definitely need some more research if they're appropriate for such a small contained system. if the sun is always creating more algae then maybe it'll be self sustaining.
Water seems to be a big problem on your property, and that rain water roof will not collect that much with that little square meters. Have you thought of the possibility of ground water. What kind of rocks are you on If its limestone you might consider looking into that.
Thanks for the comment Pietje! Yes this year we had very little rain, only 200mm, less than most deserts! The years before this we had much more rain, up to 2m around 3 years ago! We have a natural spring next to our house which runs all year round so we are able to use this. However we will soon be installing a 100,000 litre corrugated metal water tank at the top of our land which will store the spring water in the winter months when it is running fast so we can use in the summer months. We are also considering building a large rainwater collection system above this tank made from corrugated panels to collect the rainwater. We are trying to collect water in every way possible! ❤️
Yes thankfully a little more rain, 2.5cm yesterday we think, from our buckets outside. Lightning strikes sounded very near our solar panels though, we really need some lightning rods installed, every year we promise we'll make some with some 10m tall rebar stakes welded together all around our house and solar system, but we never get around to it. One of these days it's going to hit something... such big lightning strikes up on the mountain here - the shepherd regularly loses sheep apparently from sheltering under trees near our land
Thanks Marco! He is so good at taking things apart, you can't leave him alone in the room with anything because he'll take it apart! He can explain how the tractor engine works better than me now haha! ❤️
What an excellent video. Thank you. May there be many more to come - yes I do realise they are a lot of hard work to produce. I haven’t commented in a while so here goes: As a somewhat curmudgeonly old grandfather I do get a bit critical of the way you give Sage free range with tools and equipment. However, this video brought me up short when you showed Sage using tools with a level of skill that I believe is way beyond that expected of a child his age. As parents you have got to be doing something right. Your videos appear to portray the life you really do lead. In your regular intro you say you spent every penny you had to purchase the property. However, many metres of electrical cable and plastic pipe aren’t cheap. Neither is the fencing material shown in previous videos. Just day to day living costs money. Enhance the reality by telling us where you derive your income. As the end of the video there was an apology for not finishing what I believe could be the world’s most well built and feature rich off-grid toilet block. To me this apology says you haven’t quite yet left the urban rat race behind. Your projects should not be completed according to some predetermined timetable but rather according to the answer to “What will we do today?” Deadlines are sometimes inescapable but, in general, they are not for a family living free on the top of a mountain. Side note: I dug a hole in the ground for many years and really enjoyed doing so. And squatting is the healthiest way to go to the toilet. And talking of bottoms: The camera in this and other videos does seem to linger on Lady’s bottom. This is not entirely unacceptable. No, I would say it is entirely acceptable. Yes, I have noticed the camera lingers on other parts as well, including her face. This often has a smiling question: “Why are you pointing the camera at me? Shouldn’t we be getting on with the task in hand?” To me this is all perfectly acceptable videography.
Thank you Jon for being a TH-cam member! Your support really does mean the world to us! And thank you for leaving such a long and thoughtful comment. Thank you yes it does feel like Sage is learning well with all the tools and learning in a safe way at his own speed, we never put a tool in his hand, he decides which ones he wants to pickup and over time he's gained skills with many tools. For sure soon we'll do a video how we've progressed with income since living here. We really did spend everything we had on buying the house + the 2 years of renovation. After this we got by selling organic eggs and vegetables, now more and more we're able to gain enough income from the amazing people like you watching our videos and supporting us on youtube/ patreon! We hope youtube can continue to be our income into the future so we can keep living this life with our growing family! Great point regarding timelines! I think you're right, we haven't quite left the time pressures from our old life. Although it does feel like little by little we're settling into this mountain life, Robbie aspires to be more like Martijn Doolaard, an amazing youtuber building his cabins in italy, in an utterly tranquil way. We'll get there - please don't stop reminding us! We're really glad you're enjoying our videos Jon, and thank you for leaving us such thoughtful comments, we like reading them! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman Thanks for reminding me of Martijn Doolaard. I watched and enjoyed his early videos but somehow unsubscribed and forgot him. Another single off-grid TH-camr I watch is Roaming Wild Rosie.
Cool we'll check her out! Martijn has an incredible filming style, and philosophy around building and caring about his work, we really learn a lot from him! (although we are probably worlds apart with Sage running around causing destruction everywhere haha) ❤️
Haha to be fair we were amazed at how strong and calm Sage was, think he just loves animals so much it didn't bother him. It's lucky it wasn't the really big one, that lives in the hole across the patio! ❤️
Hey! Thanks for your comment! We live in the mountains between alicante and valencia, being in southern Spain it can be pretty hot however being high up in the mountains definitely helps, as it's a few degrees cooler where we are. Travel to a few areas and rent places, then walk the nearby hills and find a few places you like, that's what we did, a lot of places are for sale, and most are derelict, so just speak to the locals to find who owns them. You'll get a good idea of what fits your needs after viewing a load of places. Find a place with a spring, or make sure you invest in a 100,000 litre water tank + large rainwater harvesting system so you can run your homestead with that - we're installing this system next year alongside our spring, water is the most important thing to begin your homestead. Good luck to you and stay in touch in the comments and let us know how you get on! ❤️
We have a place in Granada province. Water is a serious issue. Springs are rare. If you’re buying land, if you cost in €20k then you can buy an air to water generation system. It acts like an oversized dehumidifier and can be solar powered and produce hundreds of litres of water from the atmosphere every day
Thanks Jonny! For sure springs are rare, and you're more likely to find a perfect bit of land for a homestead away from water opportunities, so yes if you can find another solution to water it opens up your possibilities much more for a perfect plot. Do you have one of these water generation systems? What brand/ model did you get? What water output do you get? Maybe we will consider one again! We looked into them but couldn't decide if the technology was developed enough for them to work effectively. We saw some reviews online - Ambition Strikes did a good youtube video on it, title: 'Atmospheric water generator' - however they were a bit disappointed with the results, they said it was very noisy and they didn't manage to get much water from it.... but any amount of water from the air is pretty amazing in our opinion! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman hi there……I’ve researched several options….importing from china…. went to see Genaq near Cordoba…. now talking with a Dutch company……they’ve just developed a machine for individual homes…. I’m working on a project with friends here in La Herradura, Granada where we have a subtropical micro climate…. I want to develop a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation based along a cooperative model with finance, installation, maintenance etc. as an open source resource and hope to have a pilot project running with this Dutch company asap….. they know our area. Water volume depends on topography etc
Thanks for the comment! We're in the mountains between Alicante & Valencia! 760m above sea level ❤️ Ps thanks so much for clicking subscribe, it means the world to us you're enjoying our videos!
Thanks for the comment Duane! And thanks for subscribing! Do you mean the slab for the roof? The roof height is determined by the compost bin height which is around 1m10cm (43 inches) then someone needs to be able to stand on the top step (the step below the seating platform) without touching their head on the roof. We tried our best to keep the roof height the minimum it could be for this to work, but we always knew it was going to be pretty high! We wanted a large compost bin so less emptying! ❤️
Hey Construction family! Hmm yes, that does seem like a good idea! Dragging 100meters of cable all stretched out flat on the ground though would be a bit difficult though no?? We always regret not having a bigger tube! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman it is possible to pull 4*16mm2 cable into 32mm tube. So any worries about your tube size ;) P/S last saturday we made armored concrete belt over our house
@@ladyandtheowlman 100ь to 25mm pipe is not easy to do! ;) Armored belt is concrete with rebar on the top of the walls. It is a reinforced concrete layer that encircles the entire structure and strengthens it. It increases the strength of the load-bearing walls, redistributes the load on the foundation and ensures the integrity of the building in the event of subsidence or soil shift. Also we use it for fix roof to the walls
Ah right yes, we call it a ring beam here! Great that you are building one! Houses in england are never built with these, it's mainly for earthquake zones we hear?
Thank you for enquiring Adrian! Well... can't say the pond was an outstanding success.. haha. Now after everything we've learnt since building it, it seems like there are better ways of storing water. Especially as we found out that 2.5-5cm of water evaporates from the surface in the summer (35+ degrees celsius) heat. We have thought about a liner, but there are just so many animals here with big teeth (badgers, wild cats, genets, wild boar... mouflon horns!), so eventually it would get a puncture. One thing the pond has been good for is slowing the flood waters which form lower down on our land, and it's always good to slow the water in a big rain, so that's a mini success... it just doesn't store it very well ❤️
how are things going? qué tal van las cosas. I get your deduction that indeed the gerund of ir would be "irando" but this is a very irregular verb, so "yendo" is the right one but, even so, it would not be used in this context like that. the right one would be, as I said "qué tal van las cosas"
Oh goodness, that doesn't sound good, we did some research a while back and it said some spiders can bite in Spain but not too bad, so naturally Robbie now goes around picking up all the spiders he can find. This one went so still when he picked it up, it was pretty cool, must have sensed some calm energies from Robbie, or it was laughing at my traumatised face! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman Hey you! My first comment here 🙈 first of all, I think your video style is really intresting and unique, makes it fun to watch. But it requires to not look away for even just 2 seconds (otherwise you'll miss a scene 😂) that's why 1h can be a bit tough to squeeze in. I was meaning to watch this when you posted, but I can't do chores or eat in the meantime, like I do with a lot of other videos. I personally would try to do a 30 min video every 2 weeks instead of 45-60 minutes once a month 😊 I think your dedication and thoroughness with your projects is great. All the best to you all and happy belated birthday 🎂

Haha yes.. we must have used every tool other than a hammer to knock those raw plugs in! There's just never a hammer near enough! Hammering raw plugs into clay tile block walls is a nightmare... ! Should have made it with concrete blocks ❤️
HI Bil! Welcome! We live in the mountains between Alicante and Valencia, around 760m above sea level. We're 40 min drive from the sea, so we get the best of mountain life and a little beach life! ❤️
Where is it? As a Spaniard I don't recognize the place. My homeland of Asturias doesn't seem like it to me, maybe the Pyrenees? Hum... not.Or rather an inland mountain range? It seems more likely to me. I don't need GPS coordinates, I would just like to know the area in general, not exactly.
Hi Jesús, thank you for leaving us a comment and supporting our channel! We live in the mountains between Alicante and Valencia, 760m above sea level ❤️
Thank you for all your comment we really appreciate the support for our little family! Haha not quite a nuclear engineer, Robbie was an aerospace engineer a long time ago! ❤️
Well actually Robbie didn't tell me he was an aerospace engineer until a few months into our relationship, so don't worry it's not a necessity! And also Robbie is pretty crazy too so there are is no rule book! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman I always enjoy your videos and look forward to them even though I'm a new follower, I've watched them all. Each one of 3 of you gives me a different feeling and pleases me in a different way. The videos are very well done and the music is great and the moments you choose. I almost always find something wrong with videos like this, but yours are so genuine that I wouldn't want to change a thing. You really capture the feeling of being there. So much emotion, such light and pleasant humor. All the successes, all the failures, everything is so well conveyed that I can almost smell and taste the place. Admirations for what you do and is there only lady and an owlman, how about the new member :)
Wow Rosen, that's probably the kindest and most thoughtful comment we've ever had! Thank you so much for saying all of this, and taking the time to write it. It gives us so much motivation to keep making videos and capturing our journey! It's so amazing that you have watched all of our videos, THANK YOU so much for all your support, it means the world to our little family! ❤️
*We know comments were disabled for the first few hours, we think it’s fixed now, and would love to hear what you guys think of the video!*
Does anyone else use everything except a hammer to hammer stuff into walls? Can you count how many different tools we used instead of just finding a hammer? 😅😂
@ladyandtheowlman
How are Spaniards towards you?
Nice work
Beautiful video

You are living THE life. That's my dream. I'm happily jealous for you. Congrats!
I love the wildlife cams! So much variety where you live.
The wildlife is SO COOL! It's always such a surprise every time we retrieve a camera! ❤️
Hello cloud people, loved the video and I'm glad we can enjoy the comments too.
The wildlife on your mountain is remarkable and Sage is going to be a real expert zoologist..or a builder..or an electrician.
Top content peepole❤
Thank you yes he loves checking the wildlife cameras with Robbie, he runs around pretending to be a genet cat scaring all the chickens! ❤️
Well done for keeping on in that intense heat. It's hard to do anything in August in southern Spain👏👏
These things take time. And every time you build you get better and quaker. Don't worry about perfection one first builds. Your both doing great.

Terrific. Your son is so smart he will be teaching you two how to build soon. 😊
Haha for sure, we're always marvelling at his perfect posture when he's helping us out - especially lifting that 15kg pick and digging holes! Thank you for your love and support for our little family Jim, we really appreciate it ❤️
Just found your channel, wonderful, thank you very much

Wonderful content once again, thank you for sharing 😍
Thank you so much Paul!! Really grateful to have you on this journey with us! ❤️
Love these episodes, well worth the wait. Thanks for the video 🤘☺️.

Thank you for these words of wisdom, it certainly puts things into perspective when you say it like that! Today will be a day of gratitude!! ❤️
Hi, I forgot to mention I love the heads up display you have in your toilet, that must’ve cost a fortune to put that in, at least you can see where everything is clean or not, 😂❤,
❤️
Good morning 🌅, Great to see you all again, I went to leave a comment earlier but the comments were turned off, congratulations happy birthday, 🥳
I have forgotten what I was going to say, I love sage’s hair style, and I had to laugh 😆 when you got your hair caught in your hairdryer, As it reminded of me when I was a little kid, my mother had just been to the hairdresser two or three days previous, she was doing her hair again in the mirror, I had a clockwork windup train, it used to make a funny noise, I said mum mum listen to this, I put the clockwork train up to ear 👂 and caught her hair in the cogs, luckily it didn’t pull her hair out, but my father had to cut the hair from my train, 🚂, they weren’t very happy, I was sent to my bedroom, Your fruit and veggie garden looks amazing now getting well established, And the mounting peaks still look beautiful, amazing scenery as well, 😂, not sure whether you have problems with drilling holes into the building, I used to use a smaller masonry bit first, and do not use it on Hammer, just let the drill do the work, Then I will go through with the drill size I needed, I must admit, I did buy some special masonry bits. I believe there were quite expensive, but they are very good at drilling holes without doing too much damage., I see you are putting in warm air underfloor heating system into your outside toilet, it looks very Roman like, and it will be great. See you step up to the Throne , is it one that washes you at the same time?, 😂😂😂, 🚿🧼🚿, 😂, that was great at the end seeing the wildlife on your cameras I thought I saw something quite rare, Nipping past in the distance, 😂, just a thought ever thought about getting some walkie-talkies, so you can call each other if you need something or have a problem, Hopefully, things will not take so long 😂,
I presume at some point you will be building your infinity pool, 🏊 😂😂😂, good luck with your projects for the future, stay safe,
Keep up the amazing work you’re all doing very good job , even Sage with the pickaxe ⛏️, ❤ from France. ,
Thank you Phil!
Going back to your wall rendering cracking, as it was quite a long ago, I can’t remember how you done it, Did you put a wire mesh around the outside of the building before rendering the plaster cement?, There is a pit called plasticiser which you put in with your plaster or cement that helps you when rendering and bond to the wall, another way is using water down PVA though this can be very very messy you paint this onto the wall and if I remember rightly as it is quite a few years since I’ve done it you them apply your cement before just before it goes off, and of course I know you had the problems with extreme heat over there, and something else I thought about was your cement plaster very old, or were they new bags?,
Keep up the great work look forward to seeing you all in the not too distant future next stage of your Homestead build , 💋❤️🌹🏛️

@@ladyandtheowlman It's part of the 'fun', of being a community that you've created
That is it. Then you just need the vocabulary
In the case of German or Russian (and all declension-based languages), you would need to learn by heart the declensions, which would take a week or two.

I love your videos
Thank you Garden Girl! We really appreciate the comment and support for our little family! So great to hear you're enjoying our videos!! ❤️
''we - we we - want - want - to - three - four'' i cant :D
Hahaha that's got to be one of his best moments. Thank you Paul for your love and support! ❤️
Sorollas and sorollas, cheers.
you should think about adding some muscles/oysters to your second tank to clean up the murkiness. they'll filter that whole tank within a week, no electricity required.
Wow thanks Jim, never heard that solution before, we'll check it out! Such a cool thing to add to the ecosystem! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman Wheat straw will do the same thing
Such a cool idea, we'll look into it. Can you then eat the oysters?!
Thanks Aussie homestead! Do you mean adding straw to the water??!
Bro we all care about the frontal , yes the electrical one
Haha Robbie is happy you liked his fuse box video Mike! It took him a very long time to make the jig! ❤️
Hello from dry Portugal. See you have plenty rain this week, you lucky devils.

Thank you Suryadi for all your love for our videos, it means the world to us!!
😮 I was thinking it was a tiny lizard…that was a dinosaur 😭.
Haha to be fair we were amazed at how strong and calm Sage was, think he just loves animals so much it didn't bother him. It's lucky it wasn't the really big one, that lives in the hole across the patio! ❤️

Hi, which areas in Spain do you recommend to buy land to set up a homestead?
It acts like an oversized dehumidifier and can be solar powered and produce hundreds of litres of water from the atmosphere every day
@@ladyandtheowlman Many thanks for this detailed informaion.

Why did You make the elevated slab so high to begin with?
Thanks for the comment Duane! And thanks for subscribing! Do you mean the slab for the roof? The roof height is determined by the compost bin height which is around 1m10cm (43 inches) then someone needs to be able to stand on the top step (the step below the seating platform) without touching their head on the roof. We tried our best to keep the roof height the minimum it could be for this to work, but we always knew it was going to be pretty high! We wanted a large compost bin so less emptying! ❤️
We first align the cable and pipe before pulling it. Otherwise it will form a spring and it will be much harder to pull it through the pipe.
We used 25mm tube, we probably should have used 32mm! What is an armoured belt? What is that for?
Welcome men of culture
What about the pond? Did it never gather water? Try a lining? (Sorry to be a pain in the a**).
One thing the pond has been good for is slowing the flood waters which form lower down on our land, and it's always good to slow the water in a big rain, so that's a mini success... it just doesn't store it very well ❤️
👍🏻
Thank you Long John! We really appreciate the comment and support! ❤️
how are things going? qué tal van las cosas. I get your deduction that indeed the gerund of ir would be "irando" but this is a very irregular verb, so "yendo" is the right one but, even so, it would not be used in this context like that. the right one would be, as I said "qué tal van las cosas"
