Hence the combination of both in the door design to make our unisex toilet. We have been made aware that it resembles the symbol of Islam. Great fun watching you guys build/renovate/discover your way around your home. Hint for next time you tile! I'm not a Tiler but have done heaps of DIY, tiling. When you get to Grouting your tiles, use the trowel (rubber ones are best for grout) to push the grout between the tiles. Spread it from one tile to the next and smooth off as much of the grout from the face of the tiles as you can. You actually need very little grout, but it will depend on your gaps between tiles. Leave as little grout as possible on the face of the tiles. Follow up immediately with a damp sponge. wiping over the tiles, not along the tile gaps or you will pull the grout out from between the tiles, go across the tiles and if you need to go along the tile gaps, do it very lightly. Have a bucket of water and continually wringing out the sponge to remove the excess grout and then go over and over the tiles until they are clean of grout. Now come back the next day as there will still be a thin film of grout left on the tiles when it dries. You can now simply do a quick wipe over with the clean damp sponge, and your tiles will look amazing. Yes, it should have taken about 1 hour. BTW, looks great.

I have finished the last of the 'Compost Toilet Saga'. Excellently made and entertaining. I really got into the climbing during Paris and think you should build a rock wall on site. As for trying to make a place like your friends, just focus on small areas like you have with the bog. All the plants on top are all the succulents I love so much. Looks amazing. Your land will be an oasis soon with ALL the water recycled. Bravo! Permaculture! A great way of hassle free gardening that preserves all the fungal connections and attracts all the right insects.

Yes we need to just do each project the best we can then one day maybe it will all come together into something beautiful like our friends house... although living on a farm i'm not sure our house will ever look like his haha, we always need to be able to get a dirty old tractor or a wheel barrow full of horse manure through! And yes to fungi! This year has been really cool, after 30 years of this land being sprayed with pestcides and herbicides we've had a mini explosion of new plants popping up, mushrooms everywhere, about a billion little snails, lots and lots of frogs, it's so nice to see the animals coming back! 🧡

Ploughing breaks the micro chains of underground fertilising fungi. You plant crops and around, plants that attract insects that eat insects that attack the food plants. And just let it all grow together... let the ecosystems evolve. Just an idea. Wikipedia and YT knows much more about it than I do but I thought you might like to read about it. Take care :)
And also, never tried them my self and not sure of the availability, but 'Heirloom seeds', from things like tomatoes, are seeds from the past before pesticides and sellective breeding for longevity, fast growing, toughness, etc. became a thing. Apparently these taste 10x better.
Yes you're right these seeds are great to have, we're trying our best to build up our seed bank with these so we can have more healthy veggies - there were definitely more nutrients in these old varieties!
That's interesting to read! We're definitely trying a few of these and always trying to improve our permaculture techniques! We've found it quite hard to adopt a lot of the techniques here because there is such little rainfall, or when it does fall it all falls in 48 hours then disappears! And so we have been following Geoff Lawtons re-wilding the desert videos on youtube to try and find dry climate permaculture techniques that could work better for us! All the farmers here cultivate their land (like ploughing) and they swear their trees grow 10x faster... so we're trying to prove them wrong by growing lots of deep rooted grasses! 🧡

Yes, we are going to begin work on the old shepherds house as our next project, to make our living space a little bigger so Sage can have his own room... right now we all live together in one room, but that has been quite nice actually! Maybe one day we can persuade Sage to live on the land somewhere in his own cabin and then he'll never leave us! 🧡
I love all the comments here! I loved all of Emilia's dancing - the praying mantis dance will be *the* trend across Europe next summer. Maybe. Robbie's sink carving in native rock was far above the call of duty! He is a far better man than I; I'd have said something like "You must be kidding; no way Jose". In fairness, he made you grout for hours on end and I have no doubt you are really looking forward to tiling a new bathroom one day, despite saying this was your first and last time.

Robbie is very happy to hear your kind words on his sink, it looks so amazing set into the wall, we're currently making a reed bed below it with a pump so the tap will continuously run and overflow the sink back into the reedbed. Should be a pretty interesting design, although it's perfect drinking height for the mouflon! Yes tiling is not very fun. We will be hiring someone to come and do the tiling next time... some things we just can't seem to learn no matter how many times we do them! 🧡

Stellar job on the toilet/sink combo. Sometimes it’s hard to envision the final results as something is being built, so doubts tend to creep in. However, the final results speak for themselves. Not sure how you will cycle water in the sink, but love the look and functionality of that as well. Excellent job, you deserve to be proud.

A little flat circular piece of wood (shaped like a washer) and just smaller than the TP roll. Put it on the end of the Toilet paper dowel,, would let you still slide on TP while it would keep the TP on the dowel when turning.

Although I'm not sure we have any paint left to paint the little washer, I had to blend an old pot of paint in our food blender to try and recover it, only just had enough to paint the holder! Although most terraces are too small to have swales on, it would make them collapse, so we're trying to think of other ways of keeping our ancient terraces in tact with deep rooted grasses and trying to stop the mouflon damaging them! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman Some of your videos you talk about moving the water away, and you have a few small culverts that can have serious erosion issues. Generally you want to slow water down, so even small prepared channels can have an amazing impact. If you could get an ariel shot of your land, I'm sure many of us could come up with suggestions, including water storage for the dry months. I also want to say that Sage is absolutely adoreable, cutest tool redistribution monkey ever.

The number of hours we have spent looking for Robbie's socket set pieces in the sand pit is just too crazy haha! For sure we want to slow it down, the pond and swale we dug was like our first test, hopefully we'll build more in future. And yes we need to reinforce our culverts with rocks to stop erosion! We've bought a 100,000 litre corrugated metal water tank with plastic liner, you think this is an effective way of storing water? Need to build foundation for it but just haven't had the time yet! ❤️

Lovely job on the clean up outside. In future when grouting, always, always, do a small ish section and clean the tile before it dries, then move on. My first time grouting I made the same mistake, never again. Best of luck with everything and keep going.

well done with the wood stand in the bathroom, i recommend you do a polyurethane coatings on the wood piece it provide a glossy, protective finish and are durable choices for wood surfaces. These coatings protect against moisture, scratches, and UV damage while enhancing the wood's natural appearance
grout needs to be a little drier when applied. You can also get grout for larger gaps. "lecheo para junta gorda" Just mix small amounts and do a few tiles at a time depending on thetemp.

And will only try a few tiles at a time next time, and will look for some esparto for cleaning. We've done quite a few tiling jobs and have watched so many youtube videos on how to do it, but it never seems to work out very well for us haha! It's an advanced skill no? 🧡

Hence the combination of both in the door design to make our unisex toilet. We have been made aware that it resembles the symbol of Islam. Yea! Are you just acting clownishly stupid to get more viewers? I guess you don’t really want to be up half the night fixing your mistakes….? I’m just a do-it-yourselfer, but I found grouting my shower and floor to be a very satisfying job which moved along quickly since I did it the right way.

Hint for next time you tile!
I'm not a Tiler but have done heaps of DIY, tiling. When you get to Grouting your tiles, use the trowel (rubber ones are best for grout) to push the grout between the tiles. Spread it from one tile to the next and smooth off as much of the grout from the face of the tiles as you can. You actually need very little grout, but it will depend on your gaps between tiles. Leave as little grout as possible on the face of the tiles. Follow up immediately with a damp sponge. wiping over the tiles, not along the tile gaps or you will pull the grout out from between the tiles, go across the tiles and if you need to go along the tile gaps, do it very lightly. Have a bucket of water and continually wringing out the sponge to remove the excess grout and then go over and over the tiles until they are clean of grout. Now come back the next day as there will still be a thin film of grout left on the tiles when it dries. You can now simply do a quick wipe over with the clean damp sponge, and your tiles will look amazing. Yes, it should have taken about 1 hour.

I have finished the last of the 'Compost Toilet Saga'. Excellently made and entertaining. I really got into the climbing during Paris and think you should build a rock wall on site.
As for trying to make a place like your friends, just focus on small areas like you have with the bog. All the plants on top are all the succulents I love so much. Looks amazing.
Your land will be an oasis soon with ALL the water recycled. Bravo! Permaculture! A great way of hassle free gardening that preserves all the fungal connections and attracts all the right insects.

It's so nice to hear you enjoyed them all as well, we're never sure if people like watching older episodes. Yes we need to just do each project the best we can then one day maybe it will all come together into something beautiful like our friends house... although living on a farm i'm not sure our house will ever look like his haha, we always need to be able to get a dirty old tractor or a wheel barrow full of horse manure through! And yes to fungi! This year has been really cool, after 30 years of this land being sprayed with pestcides and herbicides we've had a mini explosion of new plants popping up, mushrooms everywhere, about a billion little snails, lots and lots of frogs, it's so nice to see the animals coming back! 🧡

It includes a set of design principles derived using whole-systems thinking. It applies these principles in fields such as regenerative agriculture, town planning, rewilding, and community resilience'.
Basically you never plough. Ploughing breaks the micro chains of underground fertilising fungi. You plant crops and around, plants that attract insects that eat insects that attack the food plants. And just let it all grow together... let the ecosystems evolve. Just an idea. Wikipedia and YT knows much more about it than I do but I thought you might like to read about it. Take care :)
And also, never tried them my self and not sure of the availability, but 'Heirloom seeds', from things like tomatoes, are seeds from the past before pesticides and sellective breeding for longevity, fast growing, toughness, etc. became a thing. Apparently these taste 10x better.
Yes you're right these seeds are great to have, we're trying our best to build up our seed bank with these so we can have more healthy veggies - there were definitely more nutrients in these old varieties!
That's interesting to read! We're definitely trying a few of these and always trying to improve our permaculture techniques! We've found it quite hard to adopt a lot of the techniques here because there is such little rainfall, or when it does fall it all falls in 48 hours then disappears! And so we have been following Geoff Lawtons re-wilding the desert videos on youtube to try and find dry climate permaculture techniques that could work better for us! All the farmers here cultivate their land (like ploughing) and they swear their trees grow 10x faster... so we're trying to prove them wrong by growing lots of deep rooted grasses! 🧡

Yes, we are going to begin work on the old shepherds house as our next project, to make our living space a little bigger so Sage can have his own room... right now we all live together in one room, but that has been quite nice actually! Should be a pretty interesting design, although it's perfect drinking height for the mouflon! Yes tiling is not very fun. We will be hiring someone to come and do the tiling next time... some things we just can't seem to learn no matter how many times we do them! 🧡

Stellar job on the toilet/sink combo. Sometimes it’s hard to envision the final results as something is being built, so doubts tend to creep in. However, the final results speak for themselves. Not sure how you will cycle water in the sink, but love the look and functionality of that as well. Excellent job, you deserve to be proud.

A little flat circular piece of wood (shaped like a washer) and just smaller than the TP roll. Put it on the end of the Toilet paper dowel,, would let you still slide on TP while it would keep the TP on the dowel when turning.

Although I'm not sure we have any paint left to paint the little washer, I had to blend an old pot of paint in our food blender to try and recover it, only just had enough to paint the holder! Although most terraces are too small to have swales on, it would make them collapse, so we're trying to think of other ways of keeping our ancient terraces in tact with deep rooted grasses and trying to stop the mouflon damaging them! ❤️
@@ladyandtheowlman Some of your videos you talk about moving the water away, and you have a few small culverts that can have serious erosion issues. Generally you want to slow water down, so even small prepared channels can have an amazing impact. If you could get an ariel shot of your land, I'm sure many of us could come up with suggestions, including water storage for the dry months.
I also want to say that Sage is absolutely adoreable, cutest tool redistribution monkey ever.

The number of hours we have spent looking for Robbie's socket set pieces in the sand pit is just too crazy haha! For sure we want to slow it down, the pond and swale we dug was like our first test, hopefully we'll build more in future. And yes we need to reinforce our culverts with rocks to stop erosion! We've bought a 100,000 litre corrugated metal water tank with plastic liner, you think this is an effective way of storing water? Need to build foundation for it but just haven't had the time yet! ❤️

Lovely job on the clean up outside. In future when grouting, always, always, do a small ish section and clean the tile before it dries, then move on. My first time grouting I made the same mistake, never again.

well done with the wood stand in the bathroom, i recommend you do a polyurethane coatings on the wood piece it provide a glossy, protective finish and are durable choices for wood surfaces. These coatings protect against moisture, scratches, and UV damage while enhancing the wood's natural appearance

grout needs to be a little drier when applied. You can also get grout for larger gaps. "lecheo para junta gorda" Just mix small amounts and do a few tiles at a time depending on thetemp.
and tpo take remainder gorut off, use "esparto" is hay that comes in rolls(bundles)

And will only try a few tiles at a time next time, and will look for some esparto for cleaning. We've done quite a few tiling jobs and have watched so many youtube videos on how to do it, but it never seems to work out very well for us haha! It's an advanced skill no? 🧡
