There are thousands of books to learn from about the local plants and systems, wherever you might be.
@MatthewMasterson-pk2su That's true, but kids aren't even taught HOW to think anymore, just what propaganda to absorb & repeat without actually considering what they're promoting. “The problem isn't that Johnny can't read. Yeah, dude seems cool but you can tell that his generation's mindset really did get to him. She is also of that same generation and seems to kind of "know her place" type thing. I mean, that DOES go back to the patriarchal teachings of the monotheistic God of the Jews... for good reason though: God expects man to provide for his wife, take care of her, sacrifice for her & take the bullet for her ultimately so it's only fitting that she is a bit submissive. Not really so bad. Eh. How Jesus is literally the ONLY one out of alllll the belief systems who is still alive and has hundreds of witnesses & their names listed, proof they were actual people who lived in the Jerusalem area a couple thousand years ago. Back in the 90s this is how we lived in the Hokianga in the far North of New Zealand. No electricity, no phones. Living mostly off the land. Our 5 sons grew up this way until we moved away. If your in a great climate like these people are, you can grow so much food. There are still lots of people living this way in New Zealand. Such a peaceful way of living.
Climate IS what matters. A reasonably humid, warm climate means water and several growing cycles in the year. Stuff just grows! Once you get into drier, cooler winter climates you need green houses to contain the humidity and heat in winter.
Peter, if we only understood how liberating it is to be outside of the norm, I used to live the same way (did not have my first burger until I was a teen), lived off the land and had my most memorable experiences. Then, I traded it for the United States and have been chasing the dream ever since. Don’t get me wrong, I had an amazing life and accomplished a lot, but when you age and all you got to show for is stuff, the reality of what you left behind hits you.
The Reality of REALLY Living ..Experiencing this GIFT of LIFE comes through with these folks and your RIGHT ... our so called civilized way of Life collecting STUFF is ultimately meaningless .... Love from an old 75 year man hiding in Canada .... Roy
Well said, Victor, well said. Collect memories and experiences not products of the chasing, modern world. And I fully agree, when you walk the same path as everybody else, you end at the same place. If you choose your own path, you may discover what others have never seen or had.
I was two when they moved out there, I'll be 50 in September. They look so young for their age and they're obviously healthy, untouched by high fructose corn syrup and refined sugar and all the garbage at the grocery. What a beautiful life they have lived!
I'm 73yrs young but if I was a few years younger I'd be out there in a heartbeat. Dano and Robin are a couple of real live 'Hippies' living the life that many a hippie only dreamt of. Stay young guys. 😎 👍 Love from 🏴
The wife seems really nice/chill but the husband seems a bit high strung for me. I feel like working for him would be very stressful, and obviously you're not getting paid.
I was really sad hearing her say that her husband got tired of her and left her and the two year old little girl. But it seems like she had a wonderful man step in who was willing and happy to raise her and be a great dad. This seems like a dream childhood to grow up in nature like this. Also for Robin, it seems like she found her soul mate. Somehow who wanted to live the same life as she did, and they’ve clearly had a very long lasting marriage. Sometimes when something falls apart, it’s so that something better can fall into place.
A very strong woman indeed, where she didn't let something like that ex hold her down. Not sure if that would happen today without the support of others.
I cant believe ive been living in Lahaina since 2007 and staring at Molokai wondering what goes on on that island and here we are. Dont let the politicians see this place.
I’m born and raised in Hawaii and I lived on Moloka’i for three months one summer. There’s all kinds of people like these two all over the islands. When I lived on the Big Island, I visited a friend who lived on the Hamakua coast, and she lived kind of like these people. But further back behind her land was a Harikrushna temple with a secret village. There’s all kinds of hidden people and hidden properties on these islands. I got more stories.

Watching from a country whose major economy relies on livestock herding, Somalia. Lessons learned from this insightful documentary. 1. Life in the jungle can be beautiful if you have land suitable for mixed farming, including crops, chickens & herbal medicinal plants. 2. Using plant harvest remnants, like banana peels & stems, by placing them near the stem of banana trees provides essential nutrients such as sodium, which banana trees are rich in. 3. : I learned about the Bahá'í religion. 4. Sustainable Resource Management: I discovered the process of "make, take, use & reuse" as an alternative to "make, take, use & lose". 5. Learned more about Permaculture Farming & Homesteading. Many thanks to Peter & the couples.
I grew up in southern rural Ohio. I'm 39. I'm not off grid. I totally can relate with these folks. I hunt and fish, I forage. I garden, I compost and build living soil. I'm not strict though. The majority of protein in my diet comes from rabbits and deer. I still buy beef burger and I still buy veggies. My favorite thing to do is garden. To me it's all about the soil. Soil is literally the basis of life and health. I believe God gave us all the plants and he is pleased when we build sustainable soils. The lessons learned are priceless. I grew up without a leash I was in the woods as much as I could as a kid and I continued as an adult. I've recently encouraged my fiance to garden with me. She is a life long urban dweller. We are polar opposites in May ways. Just seeing her begonia blooms got her hooked. It's spiritual on a whole other level. When your garden does well the feeling cannot be described. It is certainly a religious experience. I too agree much with their religion.
What an absolute brilliant couple. Can you imagine, if 20% of the world thought like that and thinks as these people do. Peter this is an awesome vlog. Thank you so much. And thank you to this beautiful couple that gets it, they get it!!!
Thank you Peter! Your videos are so much better then the divisive nonsense the legacy media puts out. You offer true journalism, which is why you are so popular.
Dano is an extrovert and natural educator. Thank you! I’d like to hear more of Robin’s voice with her sensibility and quiet wisdom. An all women’s retreat would be incredible💛😊… of course economically viable and supportive for the farm and low impact
That’s beautiful! My family and I live on a big ranch in Texas and when I leave the small town we live by it’s a relief to get home. Our garden, cows, deer, rabbits, pigs, birds, and the water that flows through the woods give us peace. Going to town and especially a big city like San Antonio gives me stress like a lot of stress. I relate to that style of living. I love being a part of nature daily.
I lived in Hawaii for three years (Kailua) after living on an island in San Juan’s (N Seattle Anacortes for 13 years ) when we left Hawaii we moved to San Antonio … all the traffic, signs, stores and people gave me my first panic attack lol eventually I got used to it . Then we moved to the beach in Pan Handle of Florida , small town. Don’t care for big cities myself. I could go spend 6 months easily on this farm working and sipping tea on Malakai ❤

Agreed - the only way I could have done it is if I had someone in my life who either already knew a lot of this or was quick to learn - like they said - would make more sense to be in a couple. Now, I'm probably too old and deconditioned to be able to work the land. But still, even just adopting some permaculture practices would feel great.

I like this man's wording regarding the structure that used to be a bedroom. It appears a large rock or Boulder. Rolled down the hill, affecting the bedroom structure in some way. Referring to the structure, he said. Well, it used to be a bedroom, but a large, rock kind of CHANGED it. He did not say, destroy or ruin.He said CHANGED! I’m only 5 minutes in and loving hearing their story! Their lifestyle is beautiful. Their intentional separation from the modern chaos is inspiring. They are being beautiful stewards of the land. I find it ironic at age 78, she & I were on the same island, in the same environment in 1971. She heartbroken by a surfer & me by a musician. He left her with a child & she moved to Molokai & I flew back to the Mainland & retained my old job at Southern Airways (now Delta). Life, it’s so amazing
I remember looking up about bananas and potassium maybe four years ago and I was surprised that bananas don't even have a lot of potassium in them ... that was a very good marketing ploy
Oh goodness… I started to reevaluate what means most to me while watching this. As a Pacific Islander… I lived this for a few years… now in my 40s, and seeing this lovely couple share their world with you/us, I became a little sad by how out of touch I’ve been living the city life. I think what has changed for some since they started is plenty of the younger people are entirely vegan (I am not but for many the eggs even would be a step too far).
Here's the thing. Humanity loves technology, yet humanity loves and longs for this kind of life. If we could all just get back to real-life living along with using technology to have a balance between the two instead of letting one or the other take over, that would truly be a life worth living. Our existence today is just so incredibly out of touch its actually terrifying.

If I, a lowly human, could conjure blessings, I would send a bushel to this beautiful, strong, brave couple. My sister says, bloom where you are planted, and this takes great courage as well. Thank you for sharing this video. I gives me hope. I love the idea of bringing a young couple into the Permaculture forest to teach and pass knowledge forward. In the interim, as you wait, remember the Woofers. If they could commit to three month periods, you would have both help and the opportunity to teach. Its truly is remarkable what happens to my spirit as I work in my own garden. The world falls away as my hands work the soil, plodding through decisions, and at the end of the day: satisfaction. 💕

To highlight on what you said I've realized decades ago, when you bought say a dryer, it came with a manual and everything was mechanical. You could work on your own things if you had the patience. Nowadays we have apple phones and electric cars, that need to be worked on by appropriate professionals.
We did something like this in Tennessee in 1972. My sisters family did this with us. It was a great place to have children. We used a mule to 'til up a large garden space. We had plenty of food and sold the rest at the farmers market in Nashville. We had horses and rode the dirt roads on them. I wish we'd stayed there!
This is absolutely my dream. I'm currently on maui, got 5 kids pregnant with no. 6 and me and my husband are drooling over this lifestyle lol. If only I was 40 years younger. What a wonderful opportunity for someone to learn from them and get to live in that paradise. I do wonder about their daughters and the fact that neither of them want to live there and eventually take over. Great Video.
They both raised 4 daughters on that land, and none of them want to live there as adults to carry on and preserve their parents legacy. Homesteading is not for everyone, it's a tough lonely harsh life because you have to do manual labor on a daily basis to survive.
I lived on a ranch growing up,lived off the land. So much work to do. Couldn't wait to have a small piece of land to raise a family, which I did. I raised cattle, horses, chickens, and ducks, and grew veggies and alfalfa. My kids couldn't wait to leave. Lots of work. But in the long run they too live on small acreage. Circle of life!

Love the couple! They seem to have a young energy that is younger than most young people now. Their sense of being alive and humor is also so alive!

Our garden, cows, deer, rabbits, pigs, birds, and the water that flows through the woods give us peace. Going to town and especially a big city like San Antonio gives me stress like a lot of stress. I relate to that style of living. I love being a part of nature daily.
You're super lucky. I'd give my right foot to be able to spend time in a place like that
Agreed. San Antonio sucks, I live on the outskirts
I love how you can have a dream and ideal lifestyle but not be able to put words to it or explain. Then you randomly come across a TH-cam video of someone who's actualized your dream and succeeded at it for 50 years! This is amazing.
Agreed - the only way I could have done it is if I had someone in my life who either already knew a lot of this or was quick to learn - like they said - would make more sense to be in a couple. This people look healthy, not overweight since they don't consume tons of sugar, and they labor. Here is a simple recipe for being healthy. Wonderful couple.
They're Clueless about Avocado's being usually opposed by Nature-Preservers and Permaculture-Practioners? Never seen Permaculture-Practioners be fully unaware of that. I thought we were all united in saying this stuff us un-economic af and drinks Water like Insane
They do not look healthy!!
@ What do you mean they don’t? Pretty active, not overweight. They pull it all and you think they are falling apart or what?)))
Am 31 years of age living in Uganda, and this is something I would love to do in back in my hometown Gulu city, God bless this couple🫶🏾, not all women can bare life out of the modern life we living in today. They are really blessed.
Wahnsinn das finde ich wunderschön. Ein Riesen Respekt an diese Menschen Ihr seit Super.
I love how they have no TV or modern civilization comforts but are very up to date on religion and the world
'the problem is the solution' = 'obstacle is the way. smart
Ngl, I am so envious of their natural escape. Learning and living to appreciate life, not social media life.
What A Beautiful Couple, Happy You Met Them Peter!
Beautiful, lovely and oh so very sweet.
Such genuine, wonderful people.
Thank you Robin, Dano and Peter🔆
As someone who spend 3 years living offgrid on a homestead in the mtns of northern California. I love tbese videos lately! My wife an I are now doing our best to live off the land while still living in a "city" live 10mins away on 5 acres. Once the kids are grown we will disappear into the woods even more.
Do it now. The kids thrive.
@cosmicsquirrel7642 sadly wife is enjoying her Montessori teacher job an school for now. Never know where we will end up
@@JMcKee253 good luck to you and your family. We all have to do what we do. Kids seem to love the day to day work. I wish I'd started out with young ones. City grandkids love the novelty but they want their stims and we have to give them back.
I was impressed by the old man's depth of knowledge.
They are equally knowledgeable!! They both bring to the table, maybe in different ways... But equally...
This is truly living a full life. Certainly easier to do in the climate like Hawaii.
Stunned to hear “the problem is the solution”. I had a boss who would say that to me. I’d stare at him with my hands on my hips & say “I’ll consider that”. I was a huge student of philosophy so I did ponder that teaching often. When I retired he called me his Warrior. Greatest gift I’ve ever been given.
And B’hai…another thing I haven’t thought of for years.
Great respect for these people who can actually & successfully make their life this way. I was invited to be Amish but I knew my worldly parameters. Again a high honor to be told I have an
“Amish heart.”
I felt your blessings & will receive them with memory & prayer.
The answer is in the question. That was my one. Best wishes.
What a lovely couple and what a fantastic life they live in this sanctuary. I know a lot of people that enjoy Peter's videos, like me, dream of this every day.
I love these couples. They are full of knowledge and wisdom.❤❤❤
Thank you for making and sharing this human love story, sharing their experience of coming together, raising a family (while living off the land), and ultimately showing us the power of the human spirit and perseverance thriving in our country. Peter has a unique ability to find this human experience happening everyday throughout the U.S.A. 🇺🇸
Wonderful! I just wish Dano would let Robin talk and tell her story.
I was thinking the same thing. She’s been there longer, and I’m sure she has lot of great stories. He likes to hear himself talk, but I would like to hear the point of view of a goddess.
@@cynthiaweir5697He’s a man. Men should be speaking to men. Women should be speaking to women. It may seem sexist but in a civilized society that’s how it’s suppose to go. This is for the woman’s safety.
