They lucky they only got vicks. I'm Jamaican. Just cough around my grandmother and that's it! She has a bottle with some weeds in it...it also has weed in it, rum and rubbing alcohol. Then she closes one nostril and tells you to inhale. Instant clearing of the nasal passage! Then you do the other nostril and boom breathe easy and she doesn't do a one finger vicks rub. Your whole chest and back covered in vicks then your stuffed under a heavy ass blanket for the whole night...if it's a cold then prepare to get a massive table spoon of honey infused with garlic and onion which might cause you to throw up all the mucus on your chest... and tomorrow your all better back to running around in the pouring rain.

Pfff... You're lucky you're Jamaican. I'm Latin American and with asthma. The shit my mum and grandmas put me through was borderline torture: drink all kinds of weird oils like from the butt of a capybara, or put my head into steam from a boiling pot, or the "cataplasm", or some hot wet piece of clothe with weeds on my chest.... I hated all that.

She couldn’t really speak English but she saw that my future husband loved me, that was enough for her. We went to dinner and I forgot to tell him to leave a little on his plate when he was full. He came from a clean plate family. It was all you can eat Korean BBQ, and God bless that man, he ate, and ate, and ate, so much food. He hid Bulgogi under his rice, behind his rice, everything he could to not insult her.
I finally remembered and whispered for him to leave some in his bowl. He whispered back, “ You couldn’t remember that a half hour ago?!!!” In the meantime she’d been so happy to see the skinny guy eat so much! “Such a good boy! He’s such a good eater. That’s so good!” She’d say over and over again.
She tried a few times to shove more in him and he’d smile and mime that he was full. Grandma Kim said, “Tell him he’s a good eater!” High praise coming from her. I told him and in Korean he said thank you. She lit up like the sun, and smiled from ear to ear and asked where he’d learned how to say that. I told her he was in the Navy before we got together. She nodded and said, “Good, a strong and hard working man.”
I’m so very happy she did meet all three kids before she passed. She told me I was a good mom and that she was happy I was still happy with my husband. That blessing has carried me through some rough times. Sorry it’s so long.
And once mom decided I needed Vicks there was no stopping it.
It was my Dad that worshipped Vicks as the cure! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Nah. I'm from the southern part of America and my Dad used to do the whole Vicks on your back, Vicks on your chest, Vicks under your nose, then Vicks on your feet with socks. My Mom did whiskey hot toddies with lemon and peppermint. Then my Grandma came in and made me drink castor oil. You're struggling to get all the towels wrapped around you off because you have to run to the bathroom. That stuff would make the Devil exit your body!

* Swear I had Covid before the news broke out about it early Nov 2019. Was very sick for about 21+ days. Couldn’t breath and was so close to going to the hospital. Was laying down with the bed propped up and finally remembered my Vicks. Lathered, I mean, really slathered the Vick’s on my chest and back. Was able to breath again and so happy I got back to basics and remembered my roots/upbringing.

I work with parents as a family therapist and I appreciate honest parents so much! It's the hardest job in the world and you have to be crazy to do it and a lot amount of humor will definitely will help you get through this shit :) And hopefully telling the truth about parenthood will relax people...because you'll fail anyway. So at least have a good laugh about it 😉

Then go home in pre maternity clothes. I spread my butt as big as Texas. Gain 90 lbs. Have a 10.4 lb kid and I GAINED weight in the hospital.

One gained weight and spread with a girl, and the other one had the darn basketball thing going on. It was a running joke with us. My oldest is built like a 5"10' Barbie doll, though she downplays her figure and does not dress provocatively. Good genes, but not mine. She got the body from her Dad's sisters. But my others are all beautiful and in shape too. But my middle child definitely got my genes. My mother was so good when I kept gaining weight. She would say...it takes a year to put on the lbs, and a year to take them off.
It took the pressure off of us.
And she was exactly right. A year after my children were born I was back in my pre- clothes. But it took a lot of time in the gym.!
Ps and I was hungriest when I was breast feeding. Such lies about losing weight 😂😂🙄

Gurl......11 lbs. They put my baby in the beached whale section of the nursery. That is like having twins!!!
Luckily I learned and my other babies were all in the 6lb range.

Well after 29 hrs of labor, no drugs, Dr not present, a cracked rib and pelvic bone. I'm 67 and the thought of having another baby has never crossed my mind. I was 20 when I had him.

Let me say... I have a suggestion for one aspect... your kid telling you they hate you! Don’t be upset with that shit! Celebrate it! Throw a party! Cause I know I made it a point with my daughters that I looked forward to that day! I day-dreamed about hearing them say “mom I hate you, you’ve ruined my life!!” That means I’m doing my job as a mom! It took them years to understand but I told them both I’m not here to be their friend or another sister! I’m here to raise your ass into strong, intelligent, independent women that never...ever... have to depend on someone else to survive in life! Once that light bulb clicked on in their heads, it was an amazing moment! Cause they realized I was going to do what was best for their futures even if it was hard for me, hard for them, etc!

AND you still need to do what I say because it IS the best thing for you. Teach Respect, Kindness, Strong & Confident Character & ❤ Always.
