Amazing video! A few more tips I picked up along the way that have improved my production a lot.
1: if you find you’ve only been able to make 8 bar loops rather than full songs download an Accapella to help in arrangement
2: recreate entire beats (preferably your favourite beats) to see how the pros do it and what exactly in the beat is grabbing your attention
3: ACTIVELY listen to a new album everyday. Sit and digest an album of any genre and take in what you like and don’t like
4: technique I have I call Frankensteining. I will take drums from one track (lets say Burial) then a melody from one track (lets say flume) then an accapella from another (Katy perry). You come up with this weird mash of styles and I find I’ve found my particular style of production taking things from multiple places and seeing how they sound.

Back in the early 2000s I’ve got my foot in the music business, it was tough and nothing came easy to me. Because of someone else failure to deliver a job, no one available and my persistence I got my chance. The challenge was (and this came from the A&R of the label ...himself !!) “ daniel write me the hit” ... omg !
I stayed all night writing and producing the demo, sent the track later over those old internet boxes and praying I was in. Finally I was accepted and the song even title the album.
Once they accepted me in the team the new challenge was: “Daniel I see you EVERY DAY at 6pm with a new song” that was the best school I ever had in my career, to work hard, deliver and challenge myself, my talent and also my uninspired days to create and produce like a pro. Today my daughter is following my steps and I hope she uses my story to make hers more pleasurable and productive

This advice is so spot on!! I think everyone needs to remember that their songs won't progress linearly either. Think of a jagged graph going up.. You're going to have bangers and you're going to have subpar beats, but each one is teaching you something!

Making a track every day was literally my new year’s resolution for 2021 but then guess what - life happened. I do make music every week though. Every day is a really tough call when you have a day job.

I think that’s the single best advice I’ve heard. Personally that’s what I do is make a beat every day. I just find a drum break to chop, then on the spot dig through samples and make the rest of the beat, and then post it on Instagram. As I go through the older posts I can see my progression. It’s fun.

Keeping tabs on our progress is key. Every beat I finish goes on my SoundCloud even if I don’t like it. Can scroll back and see how things are progressing

I recently just finished my first 100 days in a row since you mentioned something similar to this back in December. I grew and learned SO much and now I am at a point where starting a song is so automatic. Ideas flow out so quickly and I'm able to throw the sounds I want from my head to my DAW. And now I've been editing videos going through the process and throwing them out there! There are so many tracks that I want to go back to and finish up. This project as a whole yields so much in regards to the amount content/ideas that you can use, but the growth that you experience both as a producer and person is even more incredible. Thank you for your wisdom!

I went through a phase of something similar before I found your channel. Recording live Techno/ Experimental with a bit of eurorack, synth drum machine, efx, used to record around 30 min jams, just noodling about, but recorded everything. My circumstances then changed I had to take a job working 10-12hrs a day, lost the routine of recording, but now, with the limited time, I’m going through 40hrs or so of jams from that period and doing nothing else but sorting, mixing down, saving tracks and loops. Just ‘getting on with it’ works, for sure. Great words Decap, respect.

Half way through the video... but co-signing 💯 so far.
I’ve been doing this technique for the past 2 months and change. Creating the best music I’ve ever done. Finally happy with my beats.
Wrapping them up and then on with the next.
The 3Ms is a great label for this philosophy.
This technique of doing dailies was made famous by Beeple (Mike Winkleman, a 3D artist). That dude is the most consistent creator of our generation, and his work just sold for 70 million. Which to me shows that quantity will always defeat quality....because quality generally rises over more releases.
    Great video

  • @triplebeam23
    @triplebeam23 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I got some tips to add .. if you ever do a part 2 ..when I get in a jam and can't make melodies .. I instantly forget about making a full track and I just do sound design.. ill pull open a soft synth and start layering synth sounds then export for one shots.. also if you just lay down one not on the 1 beat ..sometimes I'll just have it go every new bar sometimes just 16th notes .. and build a drum rhythm around something that simple..

Hell yeah. I'm gonna do this with my MPK mini in MPC beats for the next month at least. Only 4-8 bars a day, anything else is a bonus. I'm still a beginner so I quite like the comfort of a 'limited' DAW and find I'm less overwhelmed by choice.

I can't understand how it can be difficult for people to start a new idea. Although they might say the same about me because I struggle to finish them haha. Is that because I've practiced (starting songs) so many times that it's extremely easy for me now to start a pretty decent idea? Is it because I haven't finished 80% of them that I struggle with finishing them the most? If it works like a muscle you train.. that'd make sense... Ok this is something to think about...and the ableton project is loaded, so, see you later. thanks for the video! Gonna train myself to finish songs :). Gotta focus on that.

    • @HumanBeingWithFeelings

@@Phoenix-xm7fn That's the spirit.I guess I have to train my brain and overcome the stupid idea that all the songs I make have to be absolutely great songs or I should just discard them otherwise...Even the best artist have mediocre songs and even bad songs.

Nothing new what he’s saying. In order to get better at anything you must practice. It’s science. I have a video on my TH-cam about the 4 levels of mastery and how to master any skill.
I actually have a daily beatmaking reminder set. What he’s saying isn’t new, but hopefully if you’re new, you will listen to his foundational “wisdom” and just make it happen.
I would also add, if you’re stuck, go back to why you are making music. For me, it’s not about klout. It’s about being able to make a living, even during a pandemic. And I have been able to... why? Because practice makes better and my why for doing music is to do it until I die because music is like breathing for me.
Good success to you in your music journey! Just play. Quantity over quality when you’re starting is okay because eventually, if you are consistent, you will start to have the quality and understand how to be more efficient in your workflow. :)
