      As i scroll through endless supposed "good" sounds from kits put together by industry leaders or intermediate working beat makers on several different subscription based sample libraries,
      I'm struggling to hear or visually see a difference between, say..
      Fl studios "Legacy Hip Hop Open hat 2" vs. "MURDA BEATS OPEN HAT"
      I really dont think these people are doing any crazy computer rocket science to make these kits, i think theyre just taking basic built in sounds and adding some effects and eq and calling it a day.
      Call me crazy but i think all this "choosing the right sounds" stuff is a bit over-complicated and over-explained to the point of confusion when its actually really simple.

    As a dubstep producer and a metalhead, there’s a few things i disagree with. Tuning your drums to the key of the song is not necessarily needed unless if you’re using one of those 808 subs that has a built in kick. Otherwise, if it’s short enough, nobody’s gonna notice and it’ll be just fine. If you’re using multiple samples to “create” your own kick for your track (Kick X for the transient, Kick Y for the mid range, and Kick Z for the sub frequencies), then you should DEFINITELY tune them to eachother, otherwise certain frequencies between the different kicks will mash up and you’ll have a lumpy mess of a sample. As far as the snare is considered, I believe that is even LESS needed to have tuned. Yes, there are certain snares that have more tonal frequencies than others, but tuning it will lose that tonal feel. A real drum kit gets tuned, yes, but you don’t see the drummer retuning his set every time the band plays a new song that’s in a different key. The same can be said for EDM and Hip Hop. If you retune your snare to the key of the track, all of that tonal information will get lost in the mix because it’s being combined with the instruments’ tonal information. Leaving it out of key will have more impact because that tonal information does not match up with the instruments, creating its own tonal space in the mix. Also, the reason why EDM/Trap/Dubstep drops take up so much space in the mix is because we want our drops to feel big. I do wanna clarify, I’m not mad, just letting people know that some of the things in this video are not NECESSARY, but more preference. If the song calls for a snare in tune with the track, do it. If you wanna be a bit more laid back, do it. It’s all up to artist discretion.

  • @michaeldelacruz6370
    @michaeldelacruz6370 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    More than one instrument playing the same note is called unison. It's very beautiful actually.
    In a realistic enviroment these fundamental tones wouldn't clash because your ear would have to be right next to the instrument so you would end up hearing just the harmonics of instruments as they come toguether.
    When mixing, you can simulate this by utilizing a bandpass and some reverb to move the sound away from you.

    I'm personally the type of person who experiments with all kinds of sounds regardless of the genre! But it's honestly up to the person! This information is super sound in that it's typically best to stick to certain sounds for certain genres. But if you like experimenting like I do, there's nothing wrong with it cause music is 100% subjective! So there's no wrong or right way to produce! Just do what you like and if you're good at making great music with weird sounds or sounds that are atypical of that genre, then that's awesome!
