Just finished my 2015 CX5 Front brakes today. Never had so much trouble in my life! I have 121,000 miles and live where there is snow and salt. First trouble, I came home and pulled into my garage and ran over the brake rotors that fed ex left in the corner of the garage door. I bought Wagner brakes that Advance Auto had on sale for only $21 but had to order them since the store doesn't stock them. Went to take the left caliper off and it wouldn't come off since the lower slide pin was frozen in place. I had to use a screwdriver to pry it out a little. Then for the next five minutes I had to use an adjustable wrench to twist the pin and an open end wrench around the end if the pin and a five pound hammer to pound the pin out! Took the bracket off to clean out the hole. When I had the front bearings replaced they torqued to bolts to at least 120 ft lbs since the 18 inch breaker bar barely could get them off, also it slipped off one bolt rounding the corners on the bolt. Put the bracket in the parts washer to clean out the hole and didn't take the rubber boots off. The washer fluid caused the rubber to expand to twice its size so no longer usable. It was Sunday and only Advance Auto was open, the local one didn't have the rubber boots so had to drive 30 miles to another store and back. Go to put the new brakes on and they don't fit! They are for a 2015 CX9! The only ones they had were the store brand and I wasn't going to use that. Took off from work the next day and drove 15 miles to the Mazda dealer to get brakes and a new shim kit because the old shims rusted through where the caliper piston made contact. The dealer charged $105 for the brakes and you just get the pads. The $45 shim kit they didn't have any and it would take four days! I couldn't wait so bought the brakes and reused the old shims and switched the outside one that wasn't rusted for the inside. I used the Mighty Vac to change the brake fluid also. Tried to empty the reservoir first my removing the screen and ended poking a small hole with the needle nose pliers since it wouldn't come out easily. Then I couldn't even get an 1/8 inch tube down far enough to suck out the fluid anyway. I used the vacuum suction to run 12 oz of fluid through the two front brakes. When I went to do the rear I could barely get any fluid to suck out and gave up after only getting about 4 oz out of the two rear brakes.
Wow what a job ! haha but its sorted now right ? Hopefully your brakes r now in good working order. 👌for the brake bleeding maybe do another one after you have the time as you dont want air within the system that might effect brake performance.
Never noticed notches on my brake pins for my 2015 Mazda 6. Good thing I saw your video as I am about to do my fronts. I will be using Advics rotors and pads.
Thank you for your time watching this video, i really appreciate your time n support. Yes you will be able to service your brakes easy with this video as a guide. 👍🏼 keep us updated how you go with this brake service.
@@FelixDanGarasiAuto I just replaced the brakes yesterday with the Advics units and so far, after driving them less than 50 miles (while keeping stopping distances longer) they feel good. I was impressed by how the new bracket clips (what the pads slide on) fit within the bracket, in where there are no gaps. The outside of the caliper brackets were cleaned with a stainless steel wire brush, especially in the area where those clips seat, and were rinsed with brake cleaner. Of course the caliper pins and bore were repeatedly cleaned with brake cleaner and clean shop towels, with the boots off. These were lightly lubricated using Permatex orange ceramic silicone grease. I believe Mazda keeps the clearances between the pad and the clips tight, thus I used a file to remove the paint off of the shoulder of the pad to ensure they are not too tight in the bracket. On my car, it is not the ears but the shoulders (or steps) next to them and toward the axle line that is load bearing during braking. My pins were not notched like yours for caliper fitment. Perhaps my rear set is. The two previous sets of NAPA Premium rotors, fitted with Adaptive One pads, on the car had warped with extremely low miles. I believe part of that may have been that the pads were too tight in the bracket, not allowing them to move away sufficiently from the rotor after releasing the brakes. These would become too hot during driving. Ironically, the NAPA rotors seem beefier than the new set. I'll keep you up to date.
Felix, thank you so much for this great video. i like this tool which you use for brake fluid... looks good! is there some tool for coolant also? please do more videos of CX5 :) ohh i saw you turn back to original wheels... what happened with your new wheels ?
With Mazda 2.0 Skyactiv and 2.5 Skyactiv i believe its fitted with HLA (Hydraulic Lash Adjuster) maintenance free valve clearance. The plunger Operated by oil pressure to presses up the rocker arm while engine are operated. 👌 hope this info helps.
Just a note, you never want to drain the fluid out from the resevoir. Always use the brake bleeder to flush fluid out and top off as you go along. If any air is allowed into the master or slave cylinders, its very difficult to get all the air out of there.
experience pake brake pad brembo gimana om? dicompare dengan oem mazda. makan brake disc gaa? awet sampe berapa km? thanks omm. really appreciate the cx5 videos you have made
untuk brembo brake pads model prime. Sedikit berisik pada saat dingin & brake dusts nya lumayan banyak. Sy saran pakai OEM atau model Brembo ceramic. Jgn model Prime.

As for the grease they are just fine not too heavy on em. and for the shims why are they not replaced because they are still in good working order and dont have to spend extra $$ for uneccessary items, unless needed then go ahead and replace. Thank you for your support very much appreciated.
@@FelixDanGarasiAuto the problem is that you tend to get rust and an accumulation of break dust beneath the shims so they need to be removed and cleaned (perhaps using a wire brush). The shims are quite cheap and usually come with new rubbers for the pins. Using a hose to spray the disc and callipers is really not a good idea. That is what break cleaner is for.
@@Land-of-reason Yes that is why in this video i spray good amount of brake cleaner on them and regrease them prior installing the new brake pads. And ofcourse if you live where rust are main problems please do replace them so you dont do the job twice.

What was in the black bottle sprayed to clean?
just a soapy water.
The brembo pads has already shims installed op them, why do you use double shims?
its totally up to you if you want to install the or shims back or not otherwise it should not matter at all.
