    The updated Jaguar F-Pace SVR is here - and Steve Sutcliffe has got behind the wheel for an Auto Express first drive. As before, the SVR packs a thumping supercharged V8 under its handsome bonnet, but a range of tweaks to the package should make it faster and more polished than ever before. Can the upgrades keep this fire breathing monster relevant in a time of electrification?

    Couldn't disagree more with Mr. Sutcliffe's comments about the SVR's engine versus the German competition. Technically more 'advanced' the Germans may be, but turbocharging sucks eggs compared to supercharging for linearity and response of the throttle, and no-one in their right mind is buying these vehicles for fuel efficiency or low emissions. Turbos also can't compete in the exhaust note department: compare the SVR's sound with the flat-4 drone of BMW's M V8 turbo, or the flatulence of AMG's V8 turbo.

      Exactly. Who cares about the odd tenth of a second to 60, slightly higher top speed, or a couple of mpg more, when you get the noise and throttle response of this amazing engine.

      Thanks, you saved me the trouble of writing that. Agree 100%. Change, progress, whatever you call it is not always for the best. A proper old school V8 for me. Love my SVR, and perhaps may upgrade one day just before this engine becomes unobtainable.

      @@vika0194 Because I can't afford to buy it half-off in 3 years haha. I can afford to lease it new with full warranty paying the full principal of the lease up front and then getting most of that down payment back when I sell the car towards the end of the lease for about 95% of the original MSRP because these cars don't depreciate much in Canada. Then take that cash back and put it into the next lease :). I'm on a roll so far doing that with my Audi S5, then C63S Coupe and now this. Same original cash has paid for the lease principal of 3 cars in a row now.

      Agreed. I'm also not in favour of child slave labour, which is what is happening with the mining and production of batteries. But China's involved so nobody dares criticise which is disgusting imo.
      Also, do that top gear style race between a 4 pot F-pace and an SVR where the 4 pot goes its fastest and the SVR just has to keep up behind, and the SVR will be more economical on fuel. This whole environmental movement is a lie from beginning to end and causes more harm than good.

    • @carycoller3140
      @carycoller3140 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fallback8314 There's a very big difference. I currently own a V8 twin turbocharged BMW 750Li, and a V8 Supercharged Range Rover Sport. The Rover has immediate throttle response. The BMW turbochargers sit on top of the engine in the the valley between the cylinder heads. So the engine gets stupid hot, the turbos use oil, so the engine holds 12 quarts of oil.
      I've never had a problem with the supercharger on the Rover engine, but on the BMW engine I've had to replace a turbo, turbo cross over lines, turbo this, and turbo that.
      There's a lot of difference.

    Just because time is passing on, doesn't necessarily mean we're progressing. Advanced societies have regressed in moments of madness and the whole 'environmental' issue is one such case in point. Bad ideas that have caused millions to die (we're just beginning to see these effects in Texas recently, California and Germany) haven't stopped certain types of politician from pushing them, because they win votes (in the beginning).
    This is a beautiful crossover and one that's the least appealing to school-run mums. Thumbs up from me.

    This review doesn't make any sense.
    Firstly, wouldn't you praise the SVR for having a 5.0l and how JLR has still managed to implement such an engine in 2020/2021 considering all the stringent rules and regulations in place? Engine like these are dying and are becoming less apparent in modern vehicles. So we should be celebrating the engine rather than criticising it especially its age, which is irrelevant.
    Secondly, the guy does a 0-60 run but doesn't actually share the actual figures. The aim of doing a review is to provide a professional judgement on the vehicle including an overview of what the vehicle is like to use for the end user and testing the accuracy of the manufacturer's claims and how they stack up in a more realistic setting.

  • @mars353

    Nothing smaller than a V8 can compete with it in the sound department or towing capacity. But it’s just not enough bang for the buck. A V8 weighs more, costs more, and is nose heavy. A V6 is lighter and can fit lower in the engine bay with a lower center of gravity. That gives the V6 the edge in handling. Turbo charging makes a V6 just as fast (or faster) than a V8 as the German manufacturers have discovered. I noticed that the Porsche Macan shifted from a larger V6 with one turbo charger to a smaller V6 with two turbo chargers. But all this is becoming irrelevant as both engines are swept aside by electric engines. So we should enjoy the V8 while we can.
