    6 years ago, I bought a Jaguar XE the very first month right after it was available here in Spain after the world premiere... I was in love with the car. But after 6 months of ownership, I returned it. I never enjoyed a diesel car as much as I did with the little jag, but it wasn't still a mature product... It was certainly issue plagued. The ZF transmision sometimes decided to slip, every second day after the first 15.000km I had the engine in limp mode due failures in the anti-pollution system... and the navi crashed every time I needed it. Issues apart, it is one of the best handling small sedans for my taste (the giulia, for me, is THE BEST, and the XE is the second on par with the 3 series).

      A good friend of mine is a mechanic and I remember him saying never ever buy a new release JLR product as they have a really well earned bad reputation of having seriously bad teething issues. He said they often rush technology on their cars to try and compete/beat the Germans so they have all these issues. For the love of God leave it a year or two after release until going near one and even then they aren't exactly renowned for reliability.

      I dated a woman that bought a range rover supercharged years ago and it was a total lemon.Ran fine the first month and I made sure and she had the money to use premium gas.It was in and out of the shop--check engine light would flicker if you took it above 5k rpm and after the first time in the shop after that it ran like it was down 50 HP--I even filled it up with premium gas to make double sure myself.We chose my 2003 Grand Am on a trip--confident in its reliability over a 6 month old 100k priced range rover.It was also awful on fuel economy like single digits sometime.

    Interesting review however I would say other brands can be unreliable. My father has had 5 JLR vehicles over a 17 year period all from brand new. His 2000 Freelander had no problems in 4 years of ownership. He then bought a second Freelander in 2004 and it had a fuel pump failure which he sold after 3 years of ownership. He then bought a 2007 Freelander 2 and it had a water leak from day one which then caused electrical issues which he sold 4 years later. By the way, it’s still on the road somewhere in the UK even after its issues which make the car 14 years of age currently. He then bought a 2011 Freelander 2 which had an EGR failure but this was after its 3 years warranty was up. His final JLR vehicle was a 2015 Range Rover Evoque which had a broken rear passenger door lock which he sold after 2.5 years of ownership. The other family cars we had which weren’t JLR vehicles had problems such as 2007 Toyota Aygo which had a water leak into the tyre well, 2012 VW UP which had an instrument cluster that died, heat shield needed replaced and warped disc brakes and 2016 VW Polo which had a delaminated windscreen replaced under warranty. Apart from the VW Polo he has currently no issues with his 2018 Audi RS3 and 2019 VW GTI TCR.

    The complete lack of reliability in J&L has put me off no end, everyone I know who has purchased a product from them, has had problems within weeks of ownership. Some made excuses of 'highly strung engine' bla bla, yet I've had my Lexus GSF with its 5L V8 for 3 years and daily driven it for 32k miles without a single hiccup...

    James, You were fair in regards to the did not start. However, I've had high end BMW M cars that have left me stranded. I've had Range Rover Sport SVR which loved the shoppe more than my garage. In one case we missed my Uncle's funeral because it would not start after I stopped for petrol. BTW, I do not think you mentioned that the F-Pace is coil springs and dampers rather than the air bag system. The air bags were a problem on the Range Rovers and the BMWs I have owned. Out of warranty it really gets expensive. The F-Pace SVR will not put you in limp mode due to some sensor or air leak. I will NEVER own another air suspension vehicle.
    The 5.0 SC V8 has proven to be a great engine if you will just have it serviced and allow it to warm up a bit. The gearbox is well suited to the car. I prefer the look of the 2022 /23 with the long hood straight to the grill. Please test a 1988 edition and give us your thoughts. It is different than the standard SVR. All the best to you.

    James you're a star, but comparing that car to the Porsche Macan, is like comparing a Ford to a Mercedes. There just is no comparison. Let's not even discuss deprecation. Putting your hard earned money into a Jaguar is like investing in Bitcoins fake cousin, you'd have to be nuts!

    Sounds like battery issue to me; who knows how long that thing has been sitting before you got it. I have 2011 XJ SC and a 2012 XKR. I drive the XJ daily so the XKR has a battery tender on it and never have a problem with it. One day it was very cold and I started the XJ to let the interior warm up a bit. I got distracted by something and it was 30 minutes before I got in and drove off. I made a short trip to the store and when I came out and drove off again, I suddenly noticed my headlights flickering (reflecting off the car ahead of me). Then a message popped up on the screen about "Restricted Performance" mode. I'd never seen this in 8 years of ownership and I first thought maybe my battery was finally giving up the ghost after five years. Then I remembered the really long idle time that morning. These high end Jags have tons of equipment drawing on the battery, at idle they draw more power than the engine can recharge. I had just run the battery down too much; I drove normally a few more miles and the messages went away and I've never seen them since.

      Not a battery issue - checked myself and AA man confirmed not a problem. My guess is a relay or fuse popped then reset itself

    Great car still don't like SUV's though. And I don't like digital displays. Old fashioned clocks please. Also being able to hide the center console screen would be nice.Not everyone wants a screen in the middle of the car. It does sound nice though, no artificial shit being pumped into the cabin like in so many cars these days. P Zero tyres aren't that great for the UK neither are Dunlop Super Sports, they don't seem to like the wet that much and the P Zeros sidewalls are very stiff. Pilot Sport 4S's are better for the UK in my opinion. Better comfort and better on wet roads which the UK has a lot of. It's nice that Jaguar is still using the AJV8 engine, it's one of the best engines around at the moment. One of the only supercharger options on the market these days as well at least I think so. The gearbox is the correct option in my opinion, it's smooth and that is the point.
    Heated screen are nice because like you said they are handy for clearing the screen fast. But yea I agree they don't look great. I do forget about them after a while though.

    • @sparky4878
      @sparky4878 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree on digital displays. They always look cheap to me and soon look out of date. Be they instruments or touchscreen entertainment functions. Much prefer physical buttons and proper dials are timeless.

    • @Punisher9419
      @Punisher9419 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sparky4878 People moaned about there being too many buttons on the X100 XKR but to be honest I would rather have too many buttons then a touch screen that looks greassy all the time and a digital clock cluster that looks pixelated. At least I can use the buttons without needing to look what I am doing.

    Awesome review as always! Wish Land Rover and Jag had a better history with reliability. I do genuinely love their products, but would never buy one because of the reliability woes... They need to make reliability their priority - it turns prospective buyers off and destroys their resale value.

    Bought mine in June 2020 and it is now November 2023. No issue with it not starting so far. The only glitch is the boot very occasionally opens a little instead of all the way when using the key remote. Fantasic fun to drive and sounds better than anything else on the road in my opinion. Lovely interior as well.

    Yes I recognise the Infotainment problem where it doesn't boot up properly. Solution: Shut down everything, get out, lock it all up and then count to 10. Unlock, restart etc and off you go. It isn't just Jags I've have this as rare occurrence even in German cars. I think it's just purely a common computer problem everywhere and have often had to do something similar with taking a battery out of a laptop or switching off a mains switch to a PC once in a blue moon. Usually a dodgy update is the problem as often upon restarting a pop up might come up regarding a downloaded updates. Nothing to panic about.

    I owned one from 2016 to 2019. Faultless, no warranty claims and services included within £500 service pack. Very fine looking car and highly functional for load carrying like mountain bikes and trips to recycle centre. I agree the 22” rims look fabulous but do spoil the ride unless you are married to a chiropractor/ physiotherapist. Definitely a worthy alternative to ubiquitous Germans and perhaps a touch more gentlemanly than the Alfa. 🤓
