The reason why it looked good on CRT is that even at 15FPS, CRT have interlaced signal, meaning that for every frame you get half the color fields, for the next one half of the other color fields. Heh sorry man, again I wish you the best, hope to always be here hanging with you, thanks for the mods and props to their makers. You're a gentleman sir, glad to be here with ye.
Don't get me wrong, I like the FMV remaster mod and how smooth it looks, but there's just something about the old FMV's and the way they looked and ran. This might be a hot take, but I always felt they had a more realistic look to them, not in the sense of the graphic details, but how natural they felt being viewed. If I had to describe it, it felt like I was watching people move around on an actual video camera from back then, which most video footage from back then, even professionally made, had a similar look, but when you saw them, your brain just told you "this is real life I'm watching", so seeing the OG FF8 FMVs in their original format, it looked just as believable as what you saw in movies from the 90's. Upscaling them and improving the framerate, they definitely look nice, but somehow I'm able to discern more readily that "I'm watching a video game, not a real piece of footage." And I get this is probably not gonna be a popular opinion, that's fine. I just know that, for the time, that looked more like real life than many of the cinematics you see in games today, but I think that's in large part because the developers, at that time, knew the technological limits they were working within, and mastered their trade doing that, so it looked just as good as what you'd see in real life at that time. Yes, by today's standards, with the tech we're used to, it's very obviously primitive, but somehow I still prefer the old FMV style, with the low framerate and the downscaled visuals.

Something that I cannot recommend enough isn't technically a mod, it's "lossless scaling" which can be had for $7USD on steam. It's a small software tool that will upscale the whole game and it looks pretty great, in addition it allows you to essentially double the output frame rate of the game making EVERYTHING feel more smooth. I'm even able to hit squalls triggers easier. Combat now feels like 30 FPS instead of the 15 FPS combat runs at natively and the world is 60 instead of 30. I am lowing the experience.

It took me that long that I was at lvl56 Quetzalcoatl, Shiva and Ifirit were max lvl and the trexaurs were easy fights (also mainly responsible for the mad lvl up from encounters) I walked in and finally the cutscene played… I turned it off and didn’t play for 3 days I was that mad. It did make the rest of the game fookin harder tho. Almost rage quit altogether trying to fight sorceress Abel.
The ost soooo nostalgic, childhood memories 😢😢😢

Shout out to the modders of FF8 👏. I hope we can see a Seifer mod in the future that let you use his 2 limit breaks when enabled by gameshark to be a permanent characters 😁.
@@unnamedlegeon looks like ff8 will be getting a lot of love so stay tuned!
This is amazing! I've owned and played this game on the original Playstation, on the Xbox 360, on the Xbox One, on the Switch, and now it looks like I'm gonna have to play it on my PC as well lol this is literally my favorite game of all time and I love that my fellow FF8 fans are giving this game the justice it deserves since it doesn't seem like Square is ever really going to 😩😭
3:02 I can see his eyelashes oooh
Very impressive upscaling
for me the most epic FF ever
All these mods are absolutely fantastic!
You could ship those cinematics in a brand new video game TODAY and people would be happy with it. I'm as impressed with the work as I am impressed with how well these old cinematics clean up.
For real, they look phenomenal
those fmv's look amazing very impressed
Why was Five so afraid to come to America?
....you, probably get t---- BUT I'LL say it anyway,
"Seven eight nine."
And those were genuinely my favourites. I enjoyed Ten don't get me wrong, but it... maybe was just so different my pixeled/blockgon brain couldn't appreciate it? I liked Ten-2.
....Oh Lord help me I liked Ten-2. Sh1t.
But Eight never gets the love it deserves. I'm looking forward to this and thank you for your coverage, as always mate. YOU genuinely are my mod-stop-one-shop for Steam and I appreciate you immensely. Thanks for your fun and enlightening vids, FULLY intend to do a modded AI upscaled replay of the OG if I'm alive the next eight months.
...take care man, and every body. Remember why we fight.
@@wren7195 for real I guess they weren’t confident in how ff5 it would do in the west. I’ve heard mixed reviews of 10-2! Haven’t played it myself but 10 is awesome!
I really appreciate your support! Seriously thank you. Take care of yourself we have much for Final Fantasy things coming soldier!
@@OtenP_ Semper Fi do or die OOrah!! But yeah brother, looking forward to it. 5 was a great game really lol I've joked on it for not getting a port until "recently" but it's Final Fantasy.
.......I can't help it I like 10-2. Something about Yuna getting a close to her story, as well as how silly (but good, don't get me wrong. The PREMISE sounds silly, Yuna and RIkku and some random goth chick go on adventures dual-wielding pistoleros..... yeah that's, oh but shid it's fun) it can sound on paper? I get it.
Also, and I've not clocked/checked this yet, but I think one of the attacks in the game is the highest (surely at least among) damage outputs.
Heh sorry man, again I wish you the best, hope to always be here hanging with you, thanks for the mods and props to their makers. You're a gentleman sir, glad to be here with ye.
I spurt my coffee when random axel rose came out. Thx now I need a new shirt.
@@RetroVillager 😂😂
damn those fmvs look crisp af
@@duraeusentenu I hear ya, I still have my original ps1 copy and occasionally still play it on my crt. But for new comers to the series that play these on PC and such it’s a much better experience.

When will there be a mod that remodels Squall's face from the remastered version? That model is inspired by Dissidia and I personally don't like it at all, the logical thing would have been to create a face similar to the one in the cinematics. For that reason I never bought the remaster.
There’s mods out there already for a cleaned up version of the original models. I believe it might be called “rebirth flame”
@@OtenP_ I mean a mod that changes its face from the remastered version (2019), that version is the one that looks like Dissidia, not the classic version, I know the mod you are referring to.

@@oxidonitroso88 im sure it is but its a lot of work and just now seems modders are starting to focus on ff8
@@alexbourg4165 that’s news to me I think I will get it a try, that sounds phenomenal. Thank you
