    I'm 68 and I always liked fast cars. My first car was a 1969 302 Ford Fairlane. As I grew older I graduated from them and moved towards 4WD Trucks or SUV's. I have been without a car for a year since my 2004 Tahoe gave out. Since then I have rented many different cars but then the last time I rented Enterprise didn't have any economy cars. The guy says " I got a nice orange 2019 Charger I can let you have at the economy rate. I said I don't want a muscle car. He says it's the V6 and has 300 Hp. It was take the Charger or do without a car. The rental was for 1 day. I kept it for a week and just drove around with no place to go. The V6 was very quick and the driving brought back my times in my Fairlane. The interior was very spacious and the leather seats were super comfortable. Driving the V6 I could only imagine the power of the 5.7 Hemi or the SRT8.
    I started looking at Mustangs, Camaro's, Corvette's, Chargers and Challengers. Reading the comments on this thread only heightened my yearning for a muscle car.
    Another reason I'm looking for a muscle car is so I can give the double bird to the Federal Government. I will never buy a hybrid or an electric car. I don't like being told what I can do by this Commie government. It's strictly Gas for me. The more noise the car makes the better. I'm also looking for one of these cars from the 60's or early 70's but they are too expensive but I look anyway. No computer and no tracking devices.
    One thing I don't like on the newer muscle cars is the valve shutoff to save gas. Come on man give me all 8 blasters or nothing. I'll gladly pay for the gas. Besides there is a problem because the valves that are shut off are always the same so you have valves getting used more that the others and that's not good.

    For some reason Camaros always underperform on Motorweek. It’s crazy. Watch the mustang camaro head-to-head videos on here. 0-60 and 1/4 times for the Chevy are usually around 0.5 sec slower than other magazines (Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Road & Track etc.).
    I’ve noticed Motorweek tends to post acceleration numbers on the more conservative side for all vehicles in general, but they take it to another level when testing Camaros. They also tend to favor the Ford on subjective matters.
    Example: Look at the Camaro SS vs Mustang Cobra test (It was somewhere between 98’ and 02’, cant remember exactly, but it’s on TH-cam). They had the Stang’ actually outrunning the Camaro to 60 and in the quarter! Every other magazine posted numbers with the Cobra being beaten not only by SS’s, but even by the regular Z/28’s (LS1 Z/28’s 0-60: 4.8-5.5 depending on source and year; average was ~5.0 flat • 1/4 in the low 13’s). The 99’-01’ Cobra usually posted 0-60 times of 5.2-5.9, with 1/4 mile times from 13.5-14.2 (average 13.9 seconds). IIRC
    The 99’-01’ Cobra had 305-320 horsepower, but its new high-tech DOHC 4v 4.6l V-8 sacrificed low end power/torque for top end gain. Physical engine size, weight, and complexity increases as well. The LS-1’s large pushrod 5.7L V-8 is well known for its stump pulling torque from basically idle. It also gets amazing gas mileage, is incredibly reliable, with a robust aftermarket making large power gains cheap and easy. The drivetrain is robust as well, capable of handling 600+ horsepower with no changes. There are many reasons the LS is likely the most swapped motor in history for a reason.
    In 99’, so many dynos showed exaggerated horsepower figures for the Cobra that owners sued Ford and there was a recall. (My friends mom who had ordered a black on black on black like a year in advance bought hers and took us to watch Star Wars in it right after she got it).
    The LS-1 Camaros tended to be underrated if anything at a claimed 305-335 horsepower and 320-345 lb/ft iirc; 30+ more ft/lb torque than the Mustang Cobra. Dynos often had them putting down anywhere from 5-35 more HP than factory claims (with performance figures confirming).
    Keep in mind that the Camaro Z/28 was meant to compete with the Mustang GT, not the special SVT Mustang Cobra (which was a direct competitor to the Camaro SS and Pontiac Trams Am WS6 Ram-Air. The Ford was destroyed there as well unfortunately).
    A few years back, I had a 99’ Corvette hardtop and a close buddy with a 99’ Cobra convertible. Both had exhausts and his had one or two more bolt-ons. Both 6-speed and both competent drivers (we switched back and forth anyway). Whether from a dig, roll from any speed, or top speed attempt, we both agreed that there was absolutely no comparison. The Corvette simply outmatched the heavier and weaker Mustang. Now if it were an 03’ Cobra, it would have been a different story.
    I love all American muscle, and don’t get involved in the Ford/Chevy/Mopar battle (at this point all Americans should work together in fighting for our nations economic sovereignty). I’ve never owned a Camaro nor Mustang, but have owned Fords and Chevys, both of which I loved and they all lasted well.
    I just don’t like folks being misinformed, so I try to correct it when possible. I know what it must look like. I’m not knocking the Mustang or praising the Camaro; they both have their strengths, weaknesses, and unique driving experience. To each their own

    Maybe because they don't want to increase the horsepower a lot? If they wanted to have more power they would build a bigger engine. They didn't have any competition. Now that the Camaro came out they will improve their engine to an all aluminum 5.0L. Chevy just stuffs a big engine into a big car and makes it fast. Ford can do that with a smaller engine.

    I bought the same model year in the Challenger SRT, and am really glad that I did because it is everything that a muscle car should be and more. Although the Dodge is heavy it clocks the same numbers as the SS, and handles excellent for its wt. What is amazing is that the SS has an all aluminum block and heads and is a larger displacement, but lacks behind the 6.1 Hemi. Another thing that I like about the Mopar is that you can take a nice road trip in comfort and style, but the SS is stiff cramped and uncomfortable. I just think that the Camaro looks like a plastic transformer toy, not a muscle car.

      +john cooper: 5.5-6 seconds 0-60 sounds about right for those early 90's Z28's. Yours must have been worn out because motor trend tested an 85 IROC-Z with a 305 TPI making 215hp/275lbs tq and ran 0-60 in 6.87. 1/4mi was 15.3@89.1 with an automatic.

    • @coop4274
      @coop4274 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nope sorry. More like 6.5-7 secs for those cars. 1985 iroc was 7.3 0-60. You need to realize that 2 secs faster 0-60 is HUGE. Look at the 1/4 mile time and speed. A 1992 z28 5.7 was 14.9 compared to a 12.9-13.3 for this 2010. That much difference is several car lengths. If you ever raced or knew much about cars you would realize how much of a drastic difference this is. And I owned a 1987 GTA 5.7 that had 30k miles when I sold it so no it was far from worn out. It wasn't until the 98-99 Camaro SS came out that the Camaro dipped into the 5.8 sec 0-60 range. Those late 80 early 90 cars were not even close to 5 anything lol. they were in the mid 7 sec range back then.

      Old comment but The STI is more expensive base price than the SS, its designed to run on premium gasoline stock, not regular gasoline like the camaro, the STI is about 500lbs lighter in most cases with a sharper steering ratio which makes it better than the camaro at tighter low speed turns obviously, but the durability of the STI when abused is trash compared to the camaro, both are good cars but this whole "i like this car so im gonna lie about it being way better because i own it" thing is stupid and misleading.

    Correct me if I'm wrong doesn't the new camaro have the same performance stats as the one from 2002 and the new one has a little over 110hp on the old one I think it needs a diet.

    • @coop4274
      @coop4274 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yup youre wrong. The 2010 is faster than the 2002. The 2002 Camaro SS was 325hp so no the new one is not over 110hp more either.

    InsideLineVideo got 5.1 on the Mustang so why you telling me to be real? Motortrend gets BS times. Every video they do is different times. Even if it got 4.8 that is slow for a fucking 6.2L engine. Ford is beasting with their 4.6L. Their 5.0 will be pushing 400+HP just goes to show you who makes the better engines. 85 HP increase from .4 litters? Imagine how much power they would get from a 6.2L like Chevy.
