with increasing EPA regulations and a push for CVTs, smaller engines, and electric cars, this car will become a legend with a big V8 and s manual transmission... I'd buy one if I had the $$$
Just like the “Oil Crisis” in the 70’s??? It’s a grift for Billions!!!! Steal from big oil. Give to Big Green Energy!!! No Windmills or Solar Plant is going to run an Industrious Nation Like USA. Probably why China is Pushing Green through Money through our Representatives!! While building Coal Fire Plants 18 a day!!!! Fools like you Jump right on Board!!! GL
That so-called EV push has stalled. Most people don't want EVs. Including myself. CVTs are only useful for hybrids and plugin hybrids. I have seen that Nissan and Subaru fans hate the CVTs from Jatco.
Wow, great to see this guy who was doing the show in the 70ies and 80ies is still in business. Very american, yet clear pronounciacion makes this videos easy to understand, and it looks like the man is in better shape than he was 30 years ago. Good for him, all the best!
Man, I wished Chevrolet released a six generation Camaro Z28. It was supposedly came equipped with a naturally-aspirated, high-revving 5.5 LT3 V-8, but GM scrapped the Z28 development program because of the Camaro's poor sales. It was said to have around 600-620 horsepower and it would have beaten the Mustang GT350 around the track
A specific Z/28 wasn’t really needed for the 6th gen, as the ZL1 already dominated the GT350 on track, and the ZL1 1LE further obliterated it and various other European exotics. Hell, the ZL1 1LE essentially IS the 6th gen Z/28 in every way but name and engine configuration. It was as far as GM could reasonably push the Camaro, and you could definitely see that they left nothing on the table with it. It already nipped at the heels, and was even outright quicker than the C7 Z06, and stayed significantly cooler.
biggest front tires in the industry...gorgeous car, but i would be happier with a ZL1...for all the euro's that say american cars cannot handle, well this and the VIPER T/A, ZR1, Z06 and ZL1 prove that we can compete.
Plenty of lesser cars also show that American cars can handle just fine. The notion otherwise is as antiquated as the 3000-mile oil change interval, or maybe 15,000 mile spark plugs. Edit: also, agreed about preferring the ZL1 given the choice.
I wish gm would of updated the ls7 instead of building supercharged engines. With direct injection and other refinements like the lt1 has it would be a monster
This is why I enjoy motorweek reviews. No need to go down the feature list, any one who really knows already read thru the release. They're doing a public service warning poseurs and wannabes to just stick to something else.
I think deleting all those thing to save 40 some pounds is just insane considering the price tag. Because with wieght that can be compared to human weight i could purchase this car without the the deletes and then someone weighting 50 pounds more could buy the same car with the deletes. When you are talking hundreds of pounds i can see the point but not all thoses creature comforts for the price and to save 50 pounds.
The funny thing is, that sometimes in history manufacturers were offering stripped down versions of their powerful cars, as dedicated to be modified for racing or rallying these were cheaper... Sometimes a car stripped down was even sold at price even lower than the savings made on each unit, because the manufacturer saw it as a marketing investment, to sell fast cars to drivers who would use them in competition. I believe right now Toyota is selling GT86 in stripped down version for conversions into rally cars, that is cheaper than the standard model.
Soooo...I want to spend another 20 grand for Chevy to... Remove the speakers and AC system and get a rear seat delete with some sticky tires and bits of plastic on the outside. Z28. And charge me extra to put them back. The SS sounds like a better deal. I can remove the rear seat, window regulators, Halo eyes, power seats, and all the wires needed to operate them and end up with the same recipe with a different flavor.
I’m an import guy but I’ve always loved these z28’s. These cars are too expensive but hopefully next year I can get my hands on the 1LE package and build a baby Z28 🙂
Imagine an updated version of the LS-7 ,427CID NATURALLY ASPIRATED OHV VERSION on the Chevy CORVETTE GRAND SPORT. NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT. Superchargers & Turbos run HOT,compared to natural aspirated engines. You listening CHEVY?
Chevy and Ford are both newly betting on high displacement NA V-8s for their heavy duty trucks (and Chrysler's 392 Hemi).. there is a glimmer of hope for an "LT7" to give the LS7 its GenV rebirth
Either a ZL1 or a Z06 in the works for myself. No track aspirations in my future. But would like to see the alpha platform LT1 engine new Camaro before I jump. Hopefully at the March NY Auto Show?
With that much torque/displacement, you don't need to remove standard essential equipments like A/C or use different foam for seats.. I mean you have 505hp and nearly 500lb-ft of torque! come on!
With certain tuning and probably a reduced redline, numbers like that are probably reachable. More likely that upgrades would bring HP wayy past 525 by the time peak torque got to 545 lb-ft though. Maybe with a small turbo and lower compression? The car doesn't need more torque though lol
Most likely from a track day event, so they likely did not have a chance to hook up there equipment to it. Though 1/4 mile testing is pointless with this car.
Yeah, I think a lot of us were waiting to see it happen with the 6th gen car but it just never did. I'm guessing it's that the LS7 went out of production and was never directly replaced. At least there's the SS 1LE, which seems to basically be a Z/28 without the decontenting and with "only" 455 hp.
Chevy would've murdered the car industry with this if it had luxury features . .. it was to expensive and it should've beem 600 hp and the zl1 should've been 650 hp back then !
Man, I love these cars. I have driven nothing but GM muscle for 25 years or since I was 17 years old. My very first was a 1994 25th Anniversary Trans-Am LT1 w/6-speed in 1996. My very last a 2012 Camaro SS. I have since retired her as my daily driver for the track and some weekend fun. Unfortunately, GM has...at least too me, lost their way. The 2015 SS Camaro was the very last one that still represents all American power. The newer Camaro's no longer look American any longer and have lost their soul. This is why I just purchased my yellow and black Dodge Challenger RT Classic not three weeks ago. Since then I have done some work to her and she's now hitting 440hp@425 ft. lb of torque. I am very happy with the car as my daily driver and I suspect I won't go any higher. I really don't want to mess with her awesome fuel efficiency at 26-27mpg easy. Addendum- I'm sorry...holy sh*t! A 427 rolling at 550hp! Okay, I was thinking about getting a Scat Pack next year but this car is calling my name. I wonder what a used one would cost? Edit* You can get one for 48k. Sold! I will buy one this time next year after my 2017 Challenger is paid off. I only owe 18k on her so no big deal.
That goes without saying... But the price is there too. The 75K Camaro is the Uber-Camaro. With the Corvette, you're starting with a pure sports car and just go up from there... Z51 package, Z06, the add Z07 Package :-)
DevPack There have been tests with the 1LE, showing you can't just throw the Z/28 tires on it and have it perform like the Z. It's much more than just the tires, it's the complete package.
I absolutely understand but if one wants a respectable less costly muscle machine because they have no intentions of running around some track at break neck speeds the ZL1 will suffice just fine.
No, you buy the z/28 to keep up with GT3's around the track... you buy the ZL1 to keep up with mustangs around the track lol. At the track "suffice just fine" does not suffice.
back end looks better but this thing needs a complete sheet metal and plastic make over interior and out from head lights to tail lights and sooner than yesterday
Nope.... leave the sheet metal and plastic alone. It's a muscle car. Never fuck with the looks of any of our muscle cars. They did in the 70s, and look what happened. Leave the go - fast parts alone and don't mess with the sheet metal or the plastics....we can live with em.
The Z28 makes about as much sense as the Shelby GT500 or the Hellcat... GM put the emphasis on handling, Ford and Fiat on the straight line power... Different strokes...
Dude, no Mustang can compete with this on a track, period. Now you might want to wait for the GT350 to come out if you hate GM. But to compare a Mustang GT to this, not cool. Even if you had 2 GTs, still no comparison because guess what, my 18 year old cousin has a fucking Mustang GT, he doesn't have this.
***** Good point. Also Ford knows their customers better than we do and they know people want to update and mod their Mustangs so they don't always give an optimized car to reviewers. The Mustang needs larger tires if it's going to compete effectively on a track against cars like the Z28.
Alex Zevallos and it's cheaper, you can get Z/28's for 48k all day with about 1k miles on em, you wouldn't dare try and ask a ford dealer to get a base 350 for that.
dobbins2550 wow, you sure sound educated. The Cayman GTS is an amazing car, for use both on the road and the track. The Turbo S crushes this vehicle as an all-arounder. One of my favorite cars! And those rims are awesome
I love Camaro my favorite muscle car
The rim is the outer part of the wheel, I get what ur tryna say tho, I love em too. Unless you got a thing for rims… lol
Chevy's Finest
No quarter mile? I guess that means you weren't at home base?
I cringed at the $75k asking price, but then quickly realized - they sell for much more than that today.
Toyota cars cost more than 75k these days

Damn good looking car Id take this over a zl1 or gt500. Side note love the wheels GM put on the z28
I hope these cars don’t disappear! Let ev cars have their place but keep the high hp combustion cars too
The selling price in Vietnam is 200.000 usd
Aside from valve guide issues, this us imo, best camaro of the century. The newer ones look ass.
after 2018 the design became so cool

no 0-60? or 1/4 mile?
I believe 1/4 mile times to be in the mid to high 12s and 0 to 60 in the low 4s
Exactly!
$75,000? Hopefully people are getting about 35,000 off MSRP
+Laweeze Morton A lot of unsold z28's for around $55,000 all over the place

55 lbs lighter and you lose all interior comforts, not sure if it’s worth it 🤷♂️

that 7 liter engine isn't actually very big as its a pushrod engine, MUCH smaller than something like the 5 liter Coyote engine for example.
