@@ptuparttimeutuber2236 that's definitely an add on but main thing is he has always been such an amazing person. If not how can we explain him searching for a man who is a labourer in Srilanka whom he met years back or having such deep friendship with Kumar from Nepal. Probably from the last time he visited India long back there are some changes for sure.😊
I lived in Varanasi for 5 years. My missionary friend, an American Engineer, tested the water at Dasaswamedh Ghat (where you were swimming). By U.S. standards the water there is pure sewage.
The man feeding the pigeons warmed my heart. I feed birds, and squirrels, daily at my house. Some out of my hand. Year round. No matter the weather. I'm not made of money, but i make sure the animals in, and out, of my house have food. I feel better knowing God's creatures are taken care of.

Like your other follower, I am also in Miami and I visited Varanasi last year, it is my favorite city in India. For a photographer is such a unique city. Every step you take there is an insane picture waiting to be taken. Friendly people and incredible history everywhere.

Paan is basically a mouth freshener / palette cleanser after a meal - it's basically the Indian after dinner mint LOL. It has coconut, sweet rose, betel nuts, fennel seeds, and other spices typically in it - the betel nuts will give that minty taste. It's an acquired taste like beer, and if you had it as a kid, you crave it when you come across it freshly made. As for the lady outside the hotel speaking to you, I couldn't make out exactly what she said, but I think she was telling you to keep your camera with you, and not let anyone try to take anything from you - I think she was just trying to give you safety advice in general given some of the con artists / touts in the area.
The lady outside the hotel was just saying "non-sense", i mean, she spoke normal hindi/bhojpuri and I could understand it, but the things she was saying made no sense in that context. It felt a lot like she had some kind of problems and was just ranting about it? She was telling about something that her in-laws had, her dad had, but never told what they had lmao, and she was telling Harald to shut his camera, and stop doing the things he was doing and that he should mind his own business and that she didn't understand anything he was doing. I know, very confusing.
@@megalith7796 Dude that woman was definitely mentally ill and must have been brought to that city and abandoned by her family out of either compulsion of financial restraint (so she could live on charity of pilgrims) or out of lack of empathy for her mental health or else she must have lost her way to home. It would be better to empathise than to guess if she made any sense with her words. Anybody who knows the language she spoke would know that her words were competely incoherent.
Thank you both for helping us to understand. I was really curious about both the woman and the treat he tried. I'd venture to guess I'd meet someone just like her if walked around my own city for two hours with a camera.
Kashi, Benares, Varanasi is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities. I was told while visiting in '75 that it was the confluence of two surface rivers, an underground river and the Milky Way. I believe it, it's a special place.

Harald, been watching you for a couple years now. You have really evolved as a travel TH-camr. Your interest in local culture has really deepened. You're ability to swing from serious to comedic has become finely tuned. Really enjoying this stage in your TH-cam career.
I went to India in 1997 and was amazing. Really loved the Indian ringneck birds 🐦 flying, the diversity, the food, the temples, and the fact that you could wear only a shirt in heavy rain, coconut palms 🌴 , and the street vendors are stil the way i remember them to be. This is the best Varanasi video ever made and, as usual, you show exactly how to have fun and make the most of a stay in exotic places. You are an inspiration!
Varanasi (Benares, Kashi) is one of the most interesting places in India. The ash covered men are sadhus, wandering holy ascetics. I went to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Allahabad in 2013. Thanks for the video, it brought back great memories. There's nowhere else in the world like India. Have made six trips there, and barely scratched the surface.

the "Pan" that Harold ate is actually a flavored-up version of Betel nut in a Betel leaf and its chewed like tobacco. Not really considered as "food". More like a drug. It will give you a nicotine-like buzz, but can also make you feel sick if you aren't used to it.

That part with the pigeons is nice it seemed like the guy called them and they did like a happy dance or fly whatever you wanna call it and then they came down to eat. I wonder why they do it? Maybe it’s their way of saying thanks or because they get excited.

The man feeding the pigeons warmed my heart. I feed birds, and squirrels, daily at my house. Some out of my hand. Year round. No matter the weather. I'm not made of money, but i make sure the animals in, and out, of my house have food. I feel better knowing God's creatures are taken care of.
