- Biggest Draft Busts in NFL History
It’s hard enough for NFL teams to find that one player in the draft that will shape their future… but we all know there have been some major busts in the NFL draft. Quite a lot actually... But the biggest draft busts in NFL history? they have made it nearly impossible to recover for their unfortunate franchises. We have the biggest defensive player bust, the biggest bust for an offensive player that wasn’t a quarterback… and, of course, a whole slew of quarterbacks that failed to live up to expectations. Not to mention the one famous draft pick who actually duped the team into selecting him. This is The Gridiron.
In today's video, we look at the Biggest Draft Busts in NFL History

New video out- The Greatest Team To Not Win The Super Bowl
th-cam.com/video/O8pDEYivM5M/w-d-xo.html
What about Ryan Leaf, he was literally in a battle for first overall pick with Peyton Manning
True he’s too obvious
@@TheGridironYT what do you mean by too obvious?
@@Big_BervEveryone knows how bad Leaf busted.
If you don't know Ryan Leaf then you're not the person to be watching football youtube
@@TheSpicyLeg yeah it’s just I was kinda surprised he wasn’t mentioned
Vince Young got affected by the madden curse. That's why he slumpted after the 2006 season
💯
Bad coaching
You got your facts wrong. He was on the cover of Madden 2008 🤔
@@FreddPhucksReread my comment again.
The Biggest Bust in NFL History was a QB selected in the 6th Round of the 2000 NFL Draft, 199th overall from the University of Michigan.
Yeah, that's right - he BUSTED UP the entire league with no less than SEVEN Super Bowl Rings.
;)
Nice 😏
@@TheGridironYT thanks
This a really good vid keep up the work
Thank you!
Todd Marinovich is another notorious Raiders bust. The Raiders brass told Al Davis they'd heard about Marinovich's drug issues and told Davis there was another quarterback in the draft that they thought could be pretty good. The Falcons took that player with the very next pick. Who was it?
Brett Favre.
Classic Raiders lmao
Brett Favre went nine picks after Todd Marinovich. But he WAS the next QB off the board. To be fair, the class of 1991 was pretty weak, outside from Brett Favre and Aeneas Williams.
Though the Falcons did nothing with him, they didn't even plan to play the guy.
@@iamhungey12345 Oh, I agree. While it's fun to poke fun at the Raiders picking the wrong player for the trillionth time, let's be real, Brett Favre needed the Packers. They were probably the only team that could've molded him into a Hall of Fame.
@@maxxjapan619 Big time, if people had looked up on the system the Falcons were going for it wouldn't have fit Favre even if they had been committed towards him.
The best thing they had done for Favre was drafting him before the Jets gets the chance to ruin him and trade him.
W vids keep it up ❤❤
Thank you 🙏🏽

Ryan Leaf in 1998 and Art Schlichter in 1982 are the biggest busts I can think of
Arts a good unknown
I feel the Tray Lance one is a bit Unfair cause even Lynch admitted they didn’t do right by him.
The 49ers lost a lot of value on him.
I remember Vernon Gholston being like a 81 overall as a rookie on Madden 09 😂
Madden 07 was the GOAT tho
@TheGridironYT
25 is the goat to me the gameplay, mechanics, franchise mode with the story lines, & the injuries were realistic
To me Gholston was a worse defensive player because he never got a sack despite being a DE

never forget raiders coaches gave jamarcus a blank vhs tape and said it was game film, he told them he watched the entire thing ahhahahahaha
Dam finally some good management on the Riaders
I wonder if Vince Young could have lasted a few more years if Jeff Fisher hadn't been his coach.
Also, I'd argue that Mandarich was serviceable when he was with the Colts.
True the coaching is so important for careers
Just subbed
Thank you!
Jamarcus Russel found out quarterbacks don't run in the NFL unless they want to get hurt
Lamar Jackson 👀
U didn't mention that Mandrich was also on steroids at the time but had to stop because of NFL drug testing.
Truuu
You must have never seen Cade McNown stick up the place.
I might have seen him when I was a child learning the great game of football
No Ryan Leaf in an NFL Draft Bust video??? That's bizarre.
✍🏽
Which busts did we miss?
I’m shocked Zach Wilson isn’t here
He will be for Part 2
I have said this before but there were some of them who had potential to be great, but they were the biggest busts of all…Marcus Mariota, Zach Wilson, Luke Joeckel, Clelin Ferrell, Kevin White, Josh Rosen, Greg Robinson, Solomon Thomas, Johnny Manziel and Ki-Jana Carter
💯
Ki-Jana Carter might not be considered a bust if he had been healthy.
@@EricAKATheBelgianGuyKi-Jana Carter wasn’t a great back in the NFL because he never had a 1,000 yard season. He was out of the NFL in the year 2000 and 2002 before he retired from the league for good. He was injury-prone all thru his football career, so he was never a full time starter in the NFL. He’s the reason why running backs don’t get drafted 1st overall pick.
"Everyone though the Heisman winner was gonna indeed wreck the league."
No they didn't. If the Browns didn't desperately trade up to draft Manziel, he was falling to the 2nd round at best. Most teams didn't even have them on their draft boards.
Classic browns having a poor eye for talent
Trey Lance is still young and the fact this narrator has already calling him a bust is premature.
I’m starting to see a lot of these sports channels just say stuff for clicks.
What happen to developing a young quarter back.
Anyway….
Agreed Trey Lance could still come back and make himself a career. But from the 49ers perspective he was a waste of a first round pick.
I’m arguing now that Zach Wilson is the biggest bust in NFL History.
In a league so offensively favored, the dude can’t find receivers, forces throws, makes terrible decisions. Misses the most basic throws.
He’s been benched for 2nd AND third stringer.
This year has especially been an embarrassment. He took over for an injured Aaron Rodgers, and just got benched AGAIN. I’ve never heard of that ever happening to a first rounder. Being a backup and being benched as a backup for a third stringer.
Yea Zach Wilson is def trending towards a top 5 bust.
To be fair he was drafted by the Jets, many QBs they touched dies.
I said all along that Johnny Manziel is right now the biggest bust in NFL history. Jamarcus Russell: second. Ryan Leaf: third. Vince Young: fourth.
💯
Nobody drafted to Cle I'd EVER eligible for bust status
Johnny Maziel was drafted 22nd; he deserves a pass because he wasn't near the highest drafted bust.
@@dchenkin02 As I said before, where you are drafted doesn't matter. He was looked at as the savior of the Browns franchise. He was a complete failure. I don't believe he ever wanted to play football. He just wanted the money and the prestige of being a first round pick.
Vince Young wasnt a bust. Jeff Fisher happened
lmao he did wreck that team
Where the Heck is Kevin Allen? By Far the Worst Draft Pick ever in NFL History.
Yea that was a last out for this video.
As a Titans fan im used to seeing Isiah Wilson being skipped over for biggest bust. Sure, pick 29. But the guy played one game for ONE snap before being cut. Yeeeeeesh
Lmao the late first rounders always get out of the bust window
Four snaps, not one.
@@Tommy_Wimmer haha that was supposed to read three with one on special teams. Good catch!
I actually like Jhomny manziel because he went to texas a and m which is my fav school😊
💯
Mandarin wasn’t a “freak of nature.” He was a Barry Bonds-level freak of steroids. He also bought all his own hype.
Whatever he did, he got the Packers to draft him 2nd overall
@@TheGridironYT It should have been obvious he was lab-grown by his lack of hair and overly tight skin. All the Packers wanted was someone to keep Randy Wright alive when he had to play the Bears.
@@TheGridironYThe also never got along with Jeff Fisher
The Packers bust was a blessing in disguise
How come
@@TheGridironYT it lead to the GM being fired and Ron Wolfe being hired. The guy who brought Brett Favre and Reggie White to Green Bay
@@russg9371 ahh good point
Zach Wilson should be on this list
Yea he really proved himself worthy while we were making this video
Obviously Ryan Leaf he is the greatest draft bust in nfl history period Peyton Manning went on to be a hall of fame quarterback plain and simple
💯
How do you call making millions of dollars a bust ?
Sam Bankman-Fried
Bryce Young.
Yea this season about to give a lot of busts
Bryce Young is gonna end up on this list in a few years. He looks like a boy playing against men out there.
And Zach Wilson
Bryce Young isn't even a bust this year. He has decent stats on the worst team in the league. At worst, he will be in the category of David Carr, Tim Couch as players who were career back ups yet not horrible.
@dchenkin02 You're confusing "real stats" with 4th quarter garbage time when defenses are giving him 10-15 yard passes with no pass rush just to run the clock out. This guy looks completely lost out there. He hasn't even shown glimpses of anything, even remotely impressive.
@TheGridironYT At least he can see over the offensive line lol.
Niner fan here. I’m gonna call you guys out on Trey Lance. The guy didn’t do bad the few games he’s played and he’s not even 2 years in. A little premature to be labeling him as a bust if you ask me. Plenty of other players in nfl history that could’ve taken that spot.
I feel you- he’s a controversial because he could still be great in the league. We think he is a bust for the 9ers because over the 2021, 2022 and 2023 drafts, the 49ers traded 12th, 29th, 101st and 29th picks for the privilege of taking him. When they traded him to Dallas, they just got a fourth round pick.
@@TheGridironYT okay I understand that. But at the same time, it’s not like it crippled the franchise. We are far from it in fact. The title of the video says Biggest Busts in HISTORY. There are plenty of Picks in history that teams traded more for less, that kept the franchise down for more than 3 years. To rank Trey Lance as number 9 in that category just two years into his career, while the niners have been killing it on the field.. it is just premature.
@@robertelliot6040the Niners are doing well with the quarterback they didn’t have to trade multiple first round picks for… who only returned a fourth… he’s a bust. I watched him in preseason against bums that were confusing him from the line. He reads defenses like ray Charles. No need for this level of glazing.
@@MonsterMeatMac so you’re telling me it’s fair to label the guy as the number 9 draft bust in nfl history? Since 1929? But Ricky Williams isnt on this list. Ryan leaf? Akili smith? Bosworth? Not glazing here just trying to get some perspective.
@@robertelliot6040 Ricky had 10k yards rushing 😂 if Lance had a chance to play, he wouldn’t be much better than Leaf. He just wouldn’t have the painkiller addiction. I think the only argument for Smith is that the bengals turned down the draft compensation from the saints. Otherwise, he just got hurt a lot. Is Greg oden a bust? There’s a lot of glazing here 😂 Lance is god awful and is only being used as a contract negotiation chip against Dak.
how many games has trey lance even played. I dont think he has even really gotten a opportunity to play.
Yea he might have a comeback like Alex Smith. Just a minimum return on investment for the 49ers overall
If Aaron Curry was drafted by the Seahawks why you got bro in a Raiders uniform 🤷🏾♂️ Just to have two Raiders in ur pics to make us look bad
🤣 Lmaoo we could barely find any pictures/videos of him in the NFL in general
@@TheGridironYT 😂😂
Y’all can do that without help, true.
Ryan Leaf?
truu we felt he was too known
Vince young wasn’t a bust
Some people think so tho
Winning offense of rookie and still a bust smh may haven’t lived up to potential but not a bust
Trey lance?

Isiah Wilson Tennessee
