The boss gameplay itself is good, but where this becomes a masterclass is in cinematic and sound design. The way the music is made to hit its high points at moments of high action is perfect.
I played this for the first time this weekend. This may be my favorite boss fight of all time. When I was running down the clock tower, I was just screaming “I. Am. UNSTOPPABLE”!
Yep because wolverine is awesome but the thing is since wolverine is durable he still can't keep up with raiden because he's very fast and of course wolverine has a quick temper so it's not enough to beat raiden when he's in the berserker rage eventhough he ignores all pain. Sorry if I am giving a nerd fact
The thing is that Wolverine can heal himself almost instantly, but no one ever slashed a limb out of him, otherwise he would die, now thats convenient. He is Wolverine, not Deadpool. Raiden wins.
I regret skipping this game thinking it was a MGS knock-off with Raiden being the lead role. This game looks insane :D I might have to grab it. Soundtrack was epic!
The game was originally developed outside Kojima's supervision. When it began to look like an epic fail without any innovation, Kojima got back in the field, changed all the plot by himself and created this wonderful spin off. Best part is, Kojima kept Raiden in his role of kick ass slasher, without trying to give him Solid Snake's charisma. A good choice that saved Raiden's public reception also in MGS4 (after he got destroyed by critics in MGS2...). Grab it :)
Predyz Um, no. Kojima was working on MGSV. He handed the development of the game to Platinum Games who morphed the free cutting concept into a full-fledged game; the director was Kenji Saito, a Platinum member. The plot/script was handed to one of Kojima's men, not Kojima himself.
At the beginning of the fight, RAY will shoot those missiles at you that get stuck in the ground, if you immediately run backwards, he'll do the tail attack and you'll have the opportunity to cut it off. It will get you the *Steel Tail* Achievement/Trophy.
@@JXKyrian no I was talking about the game genre which is still alive thanks to dmc.But speaking about the sequel there are multiple leaked infos about dmc 6 been in development and it won't come any time soon so it's going to be another 10 years of wait
Undoubtedly one of the best fights in video games. The high-octane music, the cinematic flair, a boss with a plethora of moves to deal with, and the David VS Goliath mentality. P* has always excelled with these things, but for me, the RAY fight stands out as a true flex of their creativity.

I always found it interesting that last game where you play as Raiden, MGS2, ended with a bossfight with standard Rays. In this game, several fights with a modified more dangerous Ray is literally the tutorial boss.
He then runs DOWN A TOWER DODGING MISSILES THE PLASMA RAY AND SLICE THE THING IN HALF WHILE HE DOES THE ANIME ONLY THE CUT APPEARS WHEN I HIDE MY SWORD
***** he means the ninja theory dante, which has been outright stated to be an alternate reality dante, which means our beloved red coat wearing, pizza munching, wisecracking badass is still awesome.
And that's mindblowing. The final phase of a boss fight indicated not by some immersion breaking glow or highlighter. Indicated by the sudden, smooth introduction of the CHORUS AND BRIDGE of each /UNIQUE/ BOSS FIGHT TRACK.
Uni-Tsun-Tsun Lastation Sister im pretty sure killing one ray thats actually moving with a SWORD is more badass then fighting 6 stationary rays with a missle launcher.
He simply incapacitated them temporarily. They all walk back to their positions and let another undamaged ray take over. Solidus had to actually kill them or one of them while the rest got shut off by the worm cluster Emma developed. In here they simply have no chance and these are even more powerful rays than in MGS2.
Everyone talks about how he throw the entire fucking robot in the air, *NOBODY TALKS ABOUT HE JUMP THOUGH MISSILE AND GOT THROWN ON THE CLOCK TOWER THAN PROCEED TO SPLIT THE ENTIRE THING IN 2*
I remember that time when I played Metal Gear Rising on Revengeance difficulty. First time doing PERFECT Counter on Ray... Skipped the whole battle phase.
Plot twist: the "revengeance" part of the game title refers to raiden getting payback on the metal gear model that gave him So much trouble back in mgs2.
He used his right hand to keep hold of his sword to catch the blade and not cut his hand off, while I am sure some kind of gripping pressure was made, the majority of that throw into the air was done with one arm.
When Kaz said back in 1984 that they were building a weapon to surpass Metal Gear, they were actually referring to Raiden.

Holy shit, what a masterclass in boss design.
Nanomachines, son.
Plus this is just the tutorial it only gets better
The boss gameplay itself is good, but where this becomes a masterclass is in cinematic and sound design. The way the music is made to hit its high points at moments of high action is perfect.

Three word to resume this video: RULES OF NATURE!
Forgot a S at the end of RULE, but I totally agree.
rmsmith122198 not anymore
This soundtrack alone makes nature programs epic. A lion or cheetah chasing its prey has become something more.
3:37, holy mother of god...
I played this for the first time this weekend. This may be my favorite boss fight of all time. When I was running down the clock tower, I was just screaming “I. Am. UNSTOPPABLE”!
And this is only the tutorial boss
A few moments later Jetstream Sam asked Raiden to keep an eye on him.
"I am lighting, the rain transformed."
this video alone shows how raiden rekt wolverine
You sure were fast to post this comment
Yep because wolverine is awesome but the thing is since wolverine is durable he still can't keep up with raiden because he's very fast and of course wolverine has a quick temper so it's not enough to beat raiden when he's in the berserker rage eventhough he ignores all pain. Sorry if I am giving a nerd fact
+Gabriel Masujer don't forget the HF Katana...cuts through even Adamantium
The thing is that Wolverine can heal himself almost instantly, but no one ever slashed a limb out of him, otherwise he would die, now thats convenient. He is Wolverine, not Deadpool. Raiden wins.
J. Robinson he got melted to just a skeleton at one point I believe and recovered, but raiden is savage
I regret skipping this game thinking it was a MGS knock-off with Raiden being the lead role. This game looks insane :D
I might have to grab it. Soundtrack was epic!
***** , Got it, played it, finished it :)
the downflaw - too short
The game was originally developed outside Kojima's supervision. When it began to look like an epic fail without any innovation, Kojima got back in the field, changed all the plot by himself and created this wonderful spin off. Best part is, Kojima kept Raiden in his role of kick ass slasher, without trying to give him Solid Snake's charisma. A good choice that saved Raiden's public reception also in MGS4 (after he got destroyed by critics in MGS2...). Grab it :)
Alexander Angelos That's the way with a lot of games like, in my opinion, VVVVVV, Luigi's Mansion, Sonic Generations, SotC, and many more.
3:18 this gives me chills to this day.
At the beginning of the fight, RAY will shoot those missiles at you that get stuck in the ground, if you immediately run backwards, he'll do the tail attack and you'll have the opportunity to cut it off. It will get you the *Steel Tail* Achievement/Trophy.
So sad that no masterpieces like this are going to be made...
All thanks to Konami "I ruined every franchise I touch"
Until you remember the dmc franchise
@@yasserarres236 Devil May Cry is Capcom.

God of war is finished since that reboot. Nothing on dmc and mgr as well. Damn shame
It's got the Platnum touch. Over the top, awesome music, and most of all, fun as hell.
Undoubtedly one of the best fights in video games. The high-octane music, the cinematic flair, a boss with a plethora of moves to deal with, and the David VS Goliath mentality. P* has always excelled with these things, but for me, the RAY fight stands out as a true flex of their creativity.
This gameplay is simply artistic. Amazingly done.
3:21 I believe this is the part you were all looking for...

it must be fun being awesome CAUSE FUCKING LOOK AT THAT THE GUYS USING MISSILES AS STEPPING STONES RAN DOWN A BUILDING WHILE DODGING A PLASMA LASER AND MORE MISSILES AND BLOODY PICKED THE THING UP AND THREW IT!!! AND THEN RAN DOWN ITS BACK SLICING IT IN HALF!!
I can't believe they made the boss fight like this only ONCE in the game, the second was as impressive as this one.
This first boss fight was timed so well at each phase, the music, the setting. One of my favorite boss fights of all time.
i cant believe this game is 10 years old already. i remember back when i was 13 exactly 10 years ago, i would stay up all night to wait for this game to be released and lets just say that i did not regret it at all
RULES OF NATURE
Raiden just casually parrying a blade the size of a skyscraper.
No matter how many times I watch this, I still get goosebumps like it was the first time.
RAY was sure as hell not as keen on standing still when I fought him.
Goosebumps. That was so badass.
just a sword by your side vs a metal gear
I always found it interesting that last game where you play as Raiden, MGS2, ended with a bossfight with standard Rays. In this game, several fights with a modified more dangerous Ray is literally the tutorial boss.
But it ended up with fighting solidus
@@SolidusCurncer Yeah, but swordfight with a cyborg is like every other fight in this game.
@@ShinoSarna thats what makes swordfighting with cyborgs less special in here
@@ShinoSarna plus solidus just had a power suit, not a cyborg
Can we all take a moment to appreciate how damn dynamic the music is to the combat!
Raiden is, without a doubt, the most badass video game character ever. I mean, he jumps on moving missiles. Fucking Missiles!!!!
To get to the boss to kick it ass
He then runs DOWN A TOWER DODGING MISSILES THE PLASMA RAY AND SLICE THE THING IN HALF WHILE HE DOES THE ANIME ONLY THE CUT APPEARS WHEN I HIDE MY SWORD
I just love how you can hear the vocal-less chorus of the soundtrack whenever Raiden enters blade mode
I know this was 4 years ago but DAMN THIS STILL AWESOME!! First boss fight and that happens just can't stop getting excited seeing this.
Now it’s 10.

3:16 is probably the most badass thing I've seen in a video game. Ever. The dynamic music is sooo fucking good.
The dynamic music programming is SPOT ON. Notice when you go into slow-mo the instrumental goes into the chorus for the exact measure.
And that's mindblowing.
The final phase of a boss fight indicated not by some immersion breaking glow or highlighter.
Indicated by the sudden, smooth introduction of the CHORUS AND BRIDGE of each /UNIQUE/ BOSS FIGHT TRACK.
The moment the vocal quicks in, shit just got REAL AS FUCK!
Diogo Luiz Barcellos Volpi You get all my +1's.
Replayed 3:19 so many times. xD Love MGR. They need to find a way to make a sequel. (Don't know who the enemies would be, though...)

In here they simply have no chance and these are even more powerful rays than in MGS2.
best first mission ever!

JUST YOU VS A GIANT METAL GEAR AND YOU HAVE NOTHING BUT A SWORD BY YOUR SIDE, THATS BADASS!!
That still only counts as One!
references. . .
Plot twist: the "revengeance" part of the game title refers to raiden getting payback on the metal gear model that gave him So much trouble back in mgs2.
3:21 RULES OF NATURE!
He used his right hand to keep hold of his sword to catch the blade and not cut his hand off, while I am sure some kind of gripping pressure was made, the majority of that throw into the air was done with one arm.
