2:48 - 4:16 is my favorite part of the entire cutscene right after Snake yelling Liquids name from the top of his lungs.
It just gives their battle such a hopeless and especially pointless feeling. The War is over, the world is saved, but these two brothers still have a score to settle.
Two nobodies, in the middle of nowhere, fighting over nothing for nobody to witness. It's heartbreaking and poetic, while feeling justified and emotional at the same time.
Your wording reminds me of gael from ds3 who you literally fight at the end of everything. No one to watch, no reason to win, no reason to stop, just you and him fighting to the death
I dunno about that. I always thought of it as the usual Kojima weirdness.
@@anjaneyasreetrout2444 Maybe this is bait, but it's crazy how a bunch of people will openly admit on the internet that they have zero reading comprehension.
A wise war veteran once said "It's not over until both sides say it is."
This is a good show of that. These two men had so many years of their lives invested into what they did, the sides they fought for. Even with age getting to them a little bit, they still had all that piss and vinegar in their souls, that will of fire within - propelling them forward to make damn sure it's settled before their time is up. They weren't nobody, they were the tip of the spear for their respective factions, the world may not collectively know of their actions, but their actions were the actions of Gods, enough to effect modern civilization as we know it. All the chips were on the line and only seconds left on the clock. That's what's at stake, AND THEY KNEW DAMN WELL THEY HAD TO GET TOGETHER AND THROW THE F*CK DOWN ONCE AND FOR ALL.

9:10 was so well-timed, she literally just said "feeling my heart" when Ocelot planted that kiss on Snake's cheek
Dude im seeing that for the first time, WHY THE HELL DID HE KISS HIM LMFAOOO
People seem to miss the very ending. Ocelot saying "You're pretty good." means he has his memories back, he had therapies to make himself truly believe he was liquid to throw off the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo. For him to say that, right before he dies was him remembering everything and he was Ocelot again.
Correct me if I'm wrong it's been a hot minute since I delved heavily into MGS's lore.
Snake punched liquid so hard it give him the the right brain damage to remember shit 😂
It's implied throughout the entire game that Ocelot's in control, but can self-talk himself to be 'Liquid' when he has to. The implication is in the game's entire story being very much an Ocelot plan.
The whole fight I was thinking "Im going to punch the liquid out of the ocelot!"
@@ThePageofCups But then, what's the point of the battle? Ocelot won, there is no point in continue to being Liquid.

@trustypotato9998 Ocelot, in regaining his memory whilst fighting Solid and his incredible fighting skill, probably was reminded of Naked Snake and, due to his infatuation with Big Boss gave him the kiss on the cheek. It's likely Kojima being symbolic with Ocelot's admiration for Big Boss.

All these years never noticed that change in liquids health bar to just ocelot 8:35
MGS4 is the embodiment of the phrase: "It means nothing to a casual and everything to a hardcore fan"
I love how Surreal this scene is overall. Mainly because you slowly realize that they never needed to fight. Both Snake and Ocelot wanted to get rid of the Patriot's influence. Ocelot wanted to destroy it. Snake wanted to remove the rule of GW over the world. Both carry on the Boss's legacy against Zero. Although Ocelot had a more extremist approach, it was all thwarted by FOXALIVE's better outcome.
So why are they even fighting if the patriots are now gone?
There shouldn't even be a battle in the first place. Other than the pretense of their brotherly conflict, Liquid versus Solid.
But Liquid's already dead. So what gives? It's ocelot playing another double agent through psychotherapy, so why keep the act?
The real reason this magnificent battle happens is that Ocelot knows of FOXDIE, he knows what it can do. He's seen it in MGS1 And he sure knows as all hell that the Patriots are going to send another carrier of FOXDIE as he performs his stunt. Therefore, Ocelot meeting Snake here on Outer Haven's finale was a willing act of Suicide. And the only reason why they are fighting is simply that.
Ocelot wants to relive the feeling of seeing Big Boss one last time, to be honored the feeling of fighting him in battle like they used to back when war was a much simpler affair, back when one fought for what they believed in, not for their own country or its ideals. And with the fall of the system, They have entered a time where they are no longer needed. The husks of old heroes of a now bygone age. And everything must go back to Zero.
Solid Snake / Liquid Snake
Solid Snake / Liquid Ocelot
Naked Snake / Ocelot
Old Snake / Old Ocelot.
Also gameplay-wise. It lets the players defeat Ocelot once and for all, since the past games show the outcome of Snake vs Ocelot as undecided.
It's the final step in Ocelot's ultimate goal to revive Big Boss. He's the last living patriot that needs to go down, the last that Foxdie was made to kill, but it must be 100% convincing that it was not by his design or by his hand.

This is the most hype a video game has ever been for me. Also the music just cements it for me as a legendary moment.
This part right here is the only reason why I want this game to get A Remaster. The battle was that good. Whether it’s the music swell at the beginning or the “snake eater James Bond song” while you are beating up on each other, it’s just such a classic fight and should never be forgotten

What was weirder was the boner that solid snake had leading up to it.
I've never seen a boss-battle video where someone _intentionally_ missed cues and took hits. Gotta say: as a viewer, I liked it a heck of a lot more than a 'flawless' type of fight - so much more dramatic.
A lot of people do that (for example, Armstrong v Raiden) and it makes scripted parts where you character gets hit like QTE's so much less organic
It also brings a lot less respect to actually cool bosses and characters when you just flawlessly beat them to death.
I was wondering why snake was losing so badly. It genuinely felt like it was intended by the dev's though.
Yeah, i know that dramatic feel, it's just like beating a very hard final boss, if you beat him flawlessly after 100+ attempt, it's will be great, but not as dramatic beating him with 1 hp left
This is how it ends. A war of espionage spanning 5 decades ends with the sons of two legendary soldiers fighting to the death as old men.

*It's beautiful..........every, single, second*
We all have "that franchise" that made us fall in love with videogames. The one that made it past a hobby. Metal Gear is the one for me. And it's a shame, really, because no other franchise has a culmination so powerful, so dramatic, so perfect, that I'm 100% sure I will never experiment a moment as powerful as this. And boy have I looked.
I have played entire game series looking for this one moment... but to no avail. I've played Silent Hill, Halo, GTA, Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, the Chrono Series, Call of Duty, God of War, Assassin's Creed, Fatal Frame, Dead Space, World of Warcraft, The Legend of Zelda, Diablo, Metroid, Half-life, and many more...
None of them have this. A moment so emotional as this. They are really awesome games, and I enjoy them and think all are a part of me. But this one, dude. This whole game rewards you so much for putting so many hours into it. It feels as if Kojima and everyone working on them were saying "thank you for playing all this years". I hate Konami, but I will always be grateful to them for letting us experience this. And specially this fight.
The war is over, the conflict of their lives has ended. After dealing with the most powerful weapons on Earth, their human souls still need to fight to end it. Human mind is truly the "ultimate weapon". I got chills when I realized.
So I come back every now and then, to remember a part of me that is always present, yet silent at times.
The best is yet to come.
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for when searching for this fight on TH-cam. I don't want to see the player just dominating the fight, winning without taking a punch... that's great for the player but boring for the viewer. This is the climax of the entire series. I want to see an appropriately climactic fight, that up until the end is fairly evenly matched, where Snake takes almost as many hits as he gives. And considering the fight has so many context specific actions, it's nice to see those explored. Really does justice to the fight from a narrative perspective
I had the same thought when searching for the fight against The Boss in MGS 3 on youtube. All the videos I found were just killing her as quickly as possible, before the music at the end even starts. The fight is way, way more adrenaline rushing if Snake loses some of the CQC exchanges, and defeats her while the Snake Eater theme is playing
Thanks for uploading this.
Yes, especially when you realized the player was definitely doing it on purpose only to make the scene more plausible for the audience.

Jesus - that transition from the FMV sequence to the actual fight was pure poetry. To this day for me, aside from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, no other game provided as much un-inhibited or unapologetic fan service. I agree. Man, do I agree so much. I was surprised that so many people hated it, and wondered if they were even... fans of the series or not. It did so many things fantastically, and the "unskippable cutscenes" would've only been an issue for me if they were unskippable in subsequent playthroughs, but they aren't unskippable.
In my opinion, it ties up the series very well. The "Snake and Otacon turn themselves in" thing is a pretty cheap idea in my opinion; they'd be letting themselves die for essentially no reason other than to give a "hero dies" ending.

Everyone jokes about 9:10 but it really feels like the most powerful moment in the fight. Ocelot loves snake in the way that a bother loves a brother, a father loves a son, and a son loves a father. Snake is his rival, friend, and enemy. He doesn't show affection while Snake is conscious because they're fighting, but he can't help himself when snake goes limp from the choke. As soon as Snake starts to come to, Ocelot puts him back in a choke hold. He doesn't want to drop the illusion that this is a real fight rather than the suicide of a tired old soldier who just wants a good world. There's just so much tragedy and strength in this series.
