Linda's voice is not only technically beautiful, it is drenched with emotion. That's what makes her a top-tier vocalist, IMHO, along with her flexibility and versatility.
And…she respects the song. There is a song that Dolly Parton wrote, that Linda covered (along with a few other vocal powerhouses), and she could have just let loose and really shown the power of her voice, but she did not…she expected the feel and the emotion of the song. Others who’ve covered it, with the amazing and undeniable power of their voices, just did not respect the feel of the song, imho…Linda is a master of portraying the emotion of a song and respecting the emotion of it. I believe that’s why so many song writers have been so grateful for her covers of their songs. Just a true artist.
Yes!!! One of my favorite songs of hers!!! This one went to #8 in 1980. I'm still waiting for your reaction to her big remake of "Ooh, Baby Baby" which is amazing!!! 😉
To round out your Linda Ronstadt journey you might react to her performance as Mabel in Pirates of Penzance. I was fortunate to see her perform this role live on Broadway. She was as incredible as she is in every other genre!
Absolutely, I’m a real G&S buff as well as a Linda Ronstadt fan and I’m so jealous that you saw her live in Pirates. She blew me away with her soprano singing as Mabel. If these two want to see her real versatility they should, listen and react to ‘Poor Wandering One’.
I took my mother to NY to see Pirates of Penzance (I think it was 1980). It was a great performance all around but Linda’s voice stood out over and above the others. I also saw her in concert twice in Boston during the 70’s. Just an amazing performer. I cherish those memories. 🌺✌️
The G.O.A.T. She could be so soft and gentle and then unleash all of the lung power from her diaphragm and take her voice so high it echoed off the heavens. What power. What range.
You're absolutely right she has an amazing voice that can sing anything You have not touched on her crooner genre please check out What's New, so so beautiful ❤️❤️
@pamelaesparza1586 I think she did 3 albums with Nelson Riddle: "What's New?" "Lush Life," and "For Sentimental Reasons." All great standards, and Nelson Riddle's orchestration is superb.
Yes, since Jay loves the “crooner” style and the catalog of what is often called “The Great American Songbook”, they owe it to themselves to listen to more of those songs she covered on those great albums.
This is one of Linda's many cover hits. The original version is beautifully done by Little Anthony and the Imperials in 1964, following their big hit, Goin' Out of My Head. Years earlier, they had hits with Tears On My Pillow and Shimmy Shimmy Koko Bop. Amber, I request that you discover more of the great girl group classic hits on Female Fridays. Look up the Shirelles, Martha and the Vandellas, the Marvelettes, etc.
Jay and Amber, there are still some genres you haven't heard her sing yet. Want to hear her sing operetta? She sang in a production of "Pirates of Penzance". Want to hear her "croon" (as Jay describes it)? Listen to any of the songs she recorded with the Nelson Riddle orchestra. One of my personal favorites is "When You Wish Upon A Star".
This was a "New Wave" version of this song in the 80s. The original was by "Little Anthony & The Imperials" in the early 60's. David Cassidy put out his version, closer to the original at the same time. Linda's got the radio play. You should still listen to the original.
Great reaction to another great Linda cover. Since you love her so much and her wide range of styles *and* since Jay loves the “crooner” style and repertoire so much, you owe it to yourselves to check our Miss Linda’s journey into that style in the three albums she did with classic “crooner” arranger, Nelson Riddle (he worked most famously with Frank Sinatra during the 50’s and 60’s). You will love those.
I LOVE it when you guys get back around to Linda Ronstadt, and there is more to discover, "Poor Wandering One" from the Pirates of Penzance will show you yet another side, Opera! but I've always loved "The Only Mama That'll Walk the Line" and "Get Closer" & "It's so Easy" are also awesome, but really you can't go wrong with anything she's ever sung.

Strangely enough, you haven't even explored some of her major directions: Light Opera (Pirates of Penzance - she starred on Broadway!) and the Great American Songbook (three Platinum Albums with legendary arranger Nelson Riddle.) NOBODY ever had a career like hers!
Another great song that Linda Ronstadt did is ‘Somewhere Out There’! It’s a duet that she sings with James Ingram and it’s absolutely beautiful…I know you would Love It ❤😊 Her voice is so angelic in this song in particular!
Thanks Amber for pointing out the drawing! 🥰 So glad you like it enough to hang it and even more glad you've learned to love my very favorite artist!! 😍
❤ Linda Ronstadt will always remain as one of the most beautiful voices of our time! When you watch her being honored at The Kennedy Center she looks both honored and sad. She is so loved. ❤
Hurt so bad! One of the best artists of my baby childhood. Still remember briefly singing "Blue Bayou" in the high chair. This was fun hearing her again. I suggest "When Will I Be Loved" next.
Check out "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave," " It Doesn't Matter Anymore," "It's So Easy," "How Do I Make You," "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me," "Tumbling Dice," and "Someone to Lay Down Beside Me" for more excellent Linda Ronstadt songs!
I am thrilled you enjoy Linda so much! To extend your journey into her music, pleasr look up her Broadway musical Pirates of Penzance! In particular her singing "Poor Wandering One"! She is amazing!!! Thanks again for featuring Ms. Ronstdat!
Ive always been into great vocals, and she is tippity top level ❤ This was one of my faves of hers. Id suggest doing her cover of the Rolling Stones Tumbling Dice next! Its great!!
Once again you nailed Amber. I would love to spend a afternoon listening to music with you guys. Anyway Linda is the Greatest female vocalist , always been my favorite for since my teenage years in the 70s.....
At some point, please listen to her version of What's New? with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Stunning, amazing, beautiful...just like you said, mere word cannot fully describe how wonderful she is!
Linda's cover of "Desperado" is fantastic. Her live performance in Atlanta is a very nice version - just her voice accompanied by a piano. Or "What's New" live with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra for something completely different from what you've already heard from her.
This is her 1980 cover of Little Anthony & The Imperial’s 1966 hit, but Linda can make any cover her own! She’s just amazing! Can’t believe it has taken you so long to get back to her!! You should check out some of classics she did with The Nelson Riddle Orchestra; “When You Wish Upon A Star” for one❤❤️❤️❤️❤️
One of the most recognizable and beautiful voices in music. Linda Ronstadt took a song originally performed by Little Anthony and the Imperials, and in 1980 turned a 1964 ballad into a flat out Rocker! And her vocal delivery proves she deserves her place among the pioneers of popular music.
Another great one from Linda. Amazing voice and so versatile too. Please do Someone To Lay Down Beside Me, written by Karla Bonoff, next. Another suggestion is Down So Low written by Tracy Nelson, who did the fantastic original recording with Mother Earth. That one would be good for a covers day. Also listen to I Can't Let Go, Love Is A Rose, Love Has No Pride, Silver Threads And Golden Needles, It's So Easy, and How Do I Make You. There are so many more to go.
Check out the original from Little Anthony and The Imperials. Linda did a lot of covers and explained in at least one interview that she did music that she grew up listening to so from songs like this to her work with Nelson Riddle on the great American songbooks albums and her Ranchera/Mariachi projects and others, the had a lot of influences.
Linda Ronstadt is #1 in the female singer category. When she sings, I sometimes get goosebumps. As you said so eloquently, Amber, she puts her feelings into every song she sings. She is so beautiful, so amazing! Maybe you could have her as a guest sometime? She is the best!! 💕💕💕 Thank you!!
Ronstadt has that soulful sound to her, which lets her portray pain in her voice so convincingly. 'You're No Good' is probably my favorite of hers. The instrumental for that on the album version is wonderful!
Linda Ronstadt had the talent and courage to record the kinds if music she wanted to do despite being warned be record executives it would ruin her career. She did folk, country, country rock, rock and roll, operetta, jazz, Spanish, and pop. Was sucessful at all of it. Linda was the biggest selling female vocalist of the 1970's. She got a Tony nom for playing Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance in the early 80's. Then, did three classic albums with Nelson Riddle. Those albums sold a combined seven million copies, critical acclaim and Grammy nominations. She did three albums in Spanish. All three won a Grammy. Her voice got even stronger in the 80's after vocal training for Pirates of Penzance. Linda recorded great music up to the end of her career. No one like her. " Linda is probably, barr none, the greatest female vocalist of the 20th century." - Emmylou Harris
Yes, she never travels anymore. She did not come to accept her induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. I do hope she's inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame as well before her rare neurological disorder takers her life.
She had a fantastic voice. If you haven't heard her do The Rolling Stones' TUMBLIN' DICE and Warren Zevon's POOR, POOR PITIFUL ME - she often could take a good song and make it better than the original -
Please watch her sing Down So Low live in Germany just amazing. Faithless Love and Willin, also her version of I Will Always Love You . Absolutely love anything she sings you can't go wrong.
There are still a couple of other genres that Linda excelled in that you've yet to discover. She made a foray into light opera in the 80s, appearing on Broadway in Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance," for which she received a Tony nomination. The video of her performing "Poor Wandering One" displays an impressive range of vocal skills you may never have guessed she had. She also released a trio of very successful, platinum-certified albums with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra in which she covered American standards from the big band era.
Excellent song!! If you want some rockin' Linda Ronstadt try "Poor Poor Pituful Me" . Also in the live 1977 version of "Tumbling Dice" she gives some real grit in her vocals!!
Many singers can "sing" and hit notes, and be visit vocally flashy but not all can project emotion or communicate the story of the song, which is the main purpose of a song, to tell a story they singing. Lyrics are important.
I love the way you react to Linda. I feel the way you feel. Just grooving to the sweet parts, and total amazement when she lets loose. Nobody has ever done in like her. I have a couple of suggestions. I Keep It Hid, for the pure power and passion of her voice, The Only Mama Who'll Walk The Line, for pure country girl Linda with humor and that trade marked growl, and Goodnight, a Beatles song the will mellow you out like no other.
The greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation. "There are only three real female singers; Barbara Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, and Connie Smith. The rest of us are just pretending. " - Dolly Parton
@@Spo-Dee-O-DeeThat makes no sense. Linda Ronstadt mastered every genre. She did rock, folk, country, even Nelson Riddle longer than her Mexican music.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Linda was as good as anyone at country. Had a stronger voice than Emmylou Harris. Dylan is a horrible singer (Linda's singing with The Stone Poneys is terrific). Her standards are excellent. The point is, Linda mastered all genres....successfully. The record sales and Grammys attest to it. Can you imagine Tina Turner singing operetta? Or, Emmylou Harris singing Tumbilng Dice? 😁 The other singers stayed safely in one lane. Linda had a voice for diversity.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee You are just silly. You lost any shred of creditibilty claiming Dylan is a good singer. Flawed instrument? 😁 You are in the minority when it comes to Linda Ronstadt. But you know you're full of BS. And your suggestion that Linda Ronstadt was successful partly because of her looks is nonsense.
..."Class of 76"...I have always loved Linda...this was a change to her normal songs...Came out in 80 just as I was coming back from Berlin..Great Song!
When you think of all of the qualities that make an artist memorable and long lasting and as loved as Linda you know that you are hearing true greatness and creating life long memories. Few artists such as Karen Carpenter, Cher, Lynn Anderson, Nancy Hart and there are some others some others have reached the same Plateau as Linda. Each are great in their own way and are deserving to be on everyone's playlist. As far as picking a good song to listen to. List a bunch of their songs on a piece of paper and put that on a Dart board then throw a dart. Every song title you hit will be a Bullseye.
OMG, one of my faves from her! I always call her "my Linda" as I sing so, SO many of her songs at karaoke. I don't want the younger generation to miss out on her music!
Linda Ronstadt is definitely one of the best singers we've ever had! Wishing Linda well!
no question
Hurt so Bad is a Little Anthony and the Imperials song of the early 1960's.
They will not try it.
Yeah, nearly all her songs are covers. In my opinion, her versions are usually superior to the originals.
I think it's Smokey

She does a Fantastic cover of "Tumblin' Dice" originally done by The Rolling Stones.
Live version from Houston especially
Jay and Amber, do the Stones Tumblin' Dice and then to Linda's version. Maybe you guys can have a cover day every so often?
I love Linda’s “Tumblin’ Dice” live performance. Confident, powerful and she just naturally owns the stage. She’s a national treasure
Omg! I’ve got to check that out!

This is the only cover of this song that is worthy of the original. Linda never misses! Thank you guys!
Thank you for showcasing Linda Ronstadt! We're very proud of her here in arizona! And in the Latino community!

Original version by Little Anthony & Imperials so worth a listen
All their songs are worth a listen, in fact, are a must!!
Who cares? Linda is the artist. Nobody cares about the so called original. Little Anthony never made as big as Linda!
Yes, Little Anthony & the Imperials are awesome! It would be nice to hear their rendition.
Yeah but for some unfortunate reason, everyone only reacts to Tears on my pillow when their best recordings were with Teddy Randazzo

I Keep It Hid, for the pure power and passion of her voice, The Only Mama Who'll Walk The Line, for pure country girl Linda with humor and that trade marked growl, and Goodnight, a Beatles song the will mellow you out like no other.
Love Linda. Thank You.
Not a bad cover, you should do a reaction to, "Little Anthony and The Imperials - Hurt So Bad", I promise that you won't be disappointed.
I heard her in an interview where she admitted her goal was to try to make people cry
That still makes me weep.
Linda
Ronstadt mastered every genre.
Linda is at the top of the heap. She will leave us soon so study up.
Linda is sick but a fighter. Don't count her out too soon.
@@RandallVentresca I was a nurse for 42 years. She has a terminal neurological disease. I have been a fan of hers since 1971.
@@RandallVentrescaI spent 40+ years in health care. Trust me her time is short.
So glad you reacted to this. One of HER BEST vocals of all time. LOVE Linda!!!!
My favorite Linda song . The voice just sends chills up my arm ! The guitar just screams with emotion . Just an. Amazing performance
