    Evanescence's Amy Lee has said in several interviews Ann Wilson (Heart lead singer) was her inspiration growing up. "Barracuda", "Crazy on You", and "Magic Man" are three Heart classics that no doubt inspired female rockers. When Heart started they were the only hard rock band with women up front.

    The pipes of Ann Wilson are not just unmistakable, but she, at least in my world, is easily one of if NOT arguably the best, Rock & Roll female vocalist ever. She can send chills down anyone's spine with what she is capable of doing with her voice. Simply amazing. There is also mentioning from Mr. "Black-P" Houston here, of how the "Alone" Heart version vs. the "Barracuda" Heart version sound different. How come? It's because, well, they ARE different. Ever since the band lost two of the original founding members (before they were even named "Heart") brothers Roger Fisher and Mike Fisher, the killer electric BITE of what they sounded like in the 70's went right out the door with them. Especially Roger Fisher. His musicianship of heavy guitar riffs and clean hooks were now gone, and this dramatically changed Heart's sound as well as their direction forever. The musical writing was never the same without his in-your-face rock and roll "punch" contributions. They were no longer being successful and because of that they began doing songs written by others to survive and become relevant again. Including.... yes, "Alone." Folks, let this be a lesson to everyone to NEVER sleep with the same person you're working directly alongside with!! Never ends well, and both Roger Fisher and Nancy Wison as well as Mike Fisher and Ann Wilson can attest to that. I happen to prefer the 70's version of Heart much more than anything after that. Just my opinion. Have a good day, folks!!

      I understand the point you are making, but just for the record Fleetwood Mac was able to stay together as a band and work together for several years after the relationship splits / divorces / affairs. They separated work from personal life. Some of their very best music came as a result of those relationship dramas. But I do admit, that is very rare.

    • @FrankenstratAssassin
      @FrankenstratAssassin 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you are 100% accurate with the flings going on in Fleetwood Mac too. My guess is either their breakups were more amicable/agree to or they weren't so far down the heavy duty drug hole that they're own demons didn't come out to take over. Man, I've been around that with some folks and that's scary stuff (many many years ago when I was young and dumb-- now I'm just old and stupid!!!) Then there are folks who (seemingly) have no problem- Pat Benatar and Niel Giraldo, Paul and Linda McCartney (although, considering how fast Paul moved on... who knows.), Johnny Cash and June Carter, etc. Thanks for the comment and enjoy your weekend, Sir!!@@keithbond9423

      Music evolution happened to Heart. They weren’t going to keep that 70’s raw hard rock sound my friend, regardless of those 2 leaving the band. Theirs only a few bands that stayed raw, and survived, and Heart with a female lead singer, wasn’t going to, without the change. With 80’s music a keyboard/synthesizer was necessary. ZZ Top was a perfect example. The evolution of music continued to change into the 90’s, as it was goodbye keyboard & hairspray.

    • @FrankenstratAssassin
      @FrankenstratAssassin 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I politely disagree. No one sounded like them as they were both original sounding, head turning and had all the stage presence chops to boot. Seriously. No one sounded like them. No one. The disco wave did nothing to affect them and they chugged on right down the track like a banshee driving a distorted locomotive. They were a ridiculously great sounding band as well as unique. Bands like that don't just fade away because they play the same kind of music... they don't fade away BECAUSE of their music, and they already proved to be part of that staying-power class going into the 80's. I also believe that had the band remained intact, I don't feel there would be any question they would have been just as successful for the same reasons. No one else sounded like the one-of-a-kind Ann Wilson either, regardless of who is in the band, she was certainly in no jeopardy to losing her lead vocals role, fans or her crown. IMO one of the, if not the greatest rock and roll female voice ever. Did they change musically? Yes, but they didn't have a choice because they were no longer able to replicate what they had in the 70's and both tickets and turnstiles showed it. Again, without Roger Fisher's musical contributions as well as Mike Fisher's sound engineer contributions... fans/listeners, knuckleheads like me, we all heard the difference, and it was not as attractive or as pleasant to the rock and roll ear as what won us over in the first place. But that wasn't the only thing that hurt them. MTV was introduced and changing the landscape of not just music, but pop-culture, fashion, and inventive personalities entirely. THAT'S when they were forced into something else and had to seek others to write for them to become relevant again. I personally wouldn't consider that "evolving" but treading water and "surviving" by necessity instead. Ultimately? I believe the two things that saved Heart were, ironically, also MTV but their change in record labels too. At any rate, that's my take on it all. I appreciate and enjoyed the comment, so thanks for it! Enjoy the rest of your day, Nitro! @@nitro_001newman2

    There was a reason for the change in sound as Heart transitioned from the 70's (when 'Barracuda' was a hit) to the 80's when 'Alone' became a hit... Heart had established themselves as premiere rock band by 1977 when they scored a platinum album 'Little queen'... and they dominated the rest of the 70's. However, when the 80's started, the perception from fans was that Heart was in the past... (The same thing happened to rap artists in the 80's who couldn't transition into the 90's)
    It didn't help that Ann Wilson (lead vocals) gained weight and didn't resemble the petite frontwoman she had been... Heart also fired longtime members Steve Fossen (bass) and Mike DeRosier (drums) but the 2 albums by Heart - 'Private audition' (1982) and 'Passionworks' (1983) ...were commercial failures. Their label Epic Records dropped the band as a result.
    Heart wanted to continue and Capitol Records offered them a new record contract. However, there were a number of compromises... First, the songwriting would be handled by outside songwriters and producers to deliver hit singles for Heart... Second, Heart would get a glam rock makeover that would make them look like an 80's rock band. There was the issue of Ann Wilson's weight and large body frame... so, the label made music videos where Nancy Wilson (guitar) would be the petite sex symbol and Ann would only be featured partially filmed to hide her figure (The fans would see her full figure in concert though)
    And it worked... Heart scored their biggest album 'Heart' (self-titled) in 1985 w/ hits like "What about love" and 'These dreams' (w/ Nancy Wilson on lead vocals) which sold 5x platinum... This was followed by the album 'Bad animals' (1987) which sold 3x platinum w/ 'Alone' becoming a major hit single... 'Brigade' (1990) also went platinum w/ the single - 'All I wanna do is make love to you'...
    However, Heart had enough and wanted to take creative control of their music again on their 1993 album 'Desire walks on'... but the 90's grunge era decimated their popularity again by 1995... After the acoustic live album 'The road home' that year, Heart split up.
    Ann and sister Nancy still worked together on a new acoustic project The Lovemongers in 1997, but that went nowhere.
    Ann & Nancy Wilson reactivated Heart in 2002 for a reunion tour w/ new musicians and released the live album 'Alive in Seattle' in 2003 and a new album "Jupiter's darling" in 2004 and carried on.

    • @stk0308
      @stk0308 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The irony of saying grunge "decimated their popularity" is that Heart is also a Seattle based band. They were good friends with a lot of the biggest grunge bands of the era.
      'Jupiter's Darling' and "Red Velvet Car' albums have some great songs on them.

    • @sumonjamal1653
      @sumonjamal1653 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stk0308 Not really ironic... Van Halen were huge Black Sabbath fans, and they destroyed the original line up on the 1978 tour... which led to Ozzy Osbourne's firing from Sabbath.
      Aerosmith were forced to open for Journey in the early 80's (Journey were Aerosmith fans) cos Aerosmith were a disaster in 1982/ '83.
      And did u know Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, and Pearl Jam were huge fans of Kiss... and yet Kiss was struggling in the grunge era in 1992 - '94.

Plus, if you haven't done The Warning yet,they are a 3 piece rock group from Mexico who just happen to be sisters. I would go with their song Evolve that was taped for th VMAs 2023. They will knock your socks off!!!❤❤🤘🤘🤘

    The Wilson sisters much preferred their music from the 70s over the 80s. Record label had them under thumb and kind of dictated the 80s popish stuff. They felt like they sold out on their principles, to an extent. But, their 80s music was still insanely popular. There are many songs to hear, but two more, would be Crazy on you (live 1977). Magic Man. 🙂

      I resented that they treated Ann so disrespectfully over her size. Tried to mentally and emotionally destroy her over having a figure a bit more lush than her sister. They're sisters, not identical twins!

    It is the difference between the 70’s and the 80’s. Also, Ann gained weight and the record execs didn’t want her out in front of the video…which is why you only see her face

    I saw Heart in concert in Baltimore back in the early 2000's. Fantastic! Ann's has a powerhouse voice and Nancy is not too shabby on the guitar. Dog and Butterfly is my favorite song of theirs. It's definitely on the softer side of their music. They still tour and Ann's voice is still as powerful as ever. All I Wanna Do is Make Love To You is a good one to react to as well.

    Back then, every rock band tried to do a "power ballad" (usually required by the label).
    Heart went through almost a decade of disrespect, mostly because dudebros were mad that Nancy was such a good guitarist. There were years of "rumors" that Nancy didn't actually play.

    I'm a couple of years older than you and the first Heart song I ever heard was Never. It's kind of a combination of the two you heard. 80s sound, but but more up-tempo and tough than Alone, at least to kid's ears. I think you'd like it.

    Basically every rock group has to have ballads (often 'love' ballads) to attract certain listeners. As people love to dance to music, all songs can't rock out from beginning to end.. some have to be slower so you can waltz (slow dance) with your significate other/boyfirend or girlfriend/ or a potential one. :)

    I saw Heart once when Nancy wasn't with them due to her pregnancy (around '89-'90, I think). It was still a fantastic show. From their earlier days with Dreamboat Annie, Dog & the Butterfly, Magic Man, Barracuda, & Crazy On You through the 80s with Alone, In Dreams, Never, etc, they've always been great. It's hard to realize, as great on stage presence as she is, that Ann Wilson was actually more of an introvert... but when she gets that mic, it's just splendid. From what they said in an interview, the 80s look was not really their tastes, but what they were kinda forced into by the managers, producers, etc. It actually ticked them off in most cases. They're both fairy natural, earthy in their styles. I've never tired of their songs.

    "Magic Man" and "Crazy on You" are similar to "Barracuda." "These Dreams" is a soft-rock tune featuring Nancy on lead vocals and was actually their first #1 hit (Alone was their second #1); and although the studio-version of "These Dreams" is great, I personally prefer the acoustic, live version "These Dreams - Live in Seattle." Also, others have mentioned their "Stairway to Heaven - Kennedy Center Honors," and I totally agree; but be sure to listen to the FULL 7:59 version as there are chopped versions of the performance out there.

    Yeah, bruh. It's called the power ballad. They started with "Lady" by Styx back in '73, and were all over the radio in the 80s. A lot of hardcore rock fans hate them because they see them as soft or selling out, but I stinkin' love them! Some of the biggest rock bands' best-selling records wound up being their power ballads.
