You missed an important point. If you private sell a car, and someone shows up to pick it up and sign the title over. How do they drive it home the same day? Do those credit card backup keys work? or are they deactivated when you remove a car from the sellers app?

I have a buyer flying down from out of state to pick mine up. If it takes 3 - 5 days to transfer ownership on the app, how do they drive back home without use of superchargers as it will take 4 or 5 charges to get home?

I bought a tesla model 3 from the copart auction. I’ve been trying to tranfer ownership to my bussiness and I keep getting an email requesting proof of ownership. I already sent pictures of the title which is under my bussiness name aswell as bill of sale from copart auction, proof of my credit cards with my name and bussiness name on the card. I keep getting an email saying they need proof of ownership. I dont have anything else other than the title under my business name and bill of sale. Hi Matthew, thanks for your comment! You should be able to do most of the work via the mobile app before you pick up the car. However, you’ll have to be in-person to setup phone as a key with the vehicle for example. You can at least get your account and everything setup in the mobile app if the car is ready for you and in your name. Enjoy it and congrats on your purchase! - Tyler
So if I sell by Tesla to another person, I have to remove the car from my app for them to add the car. Can they still drive the car within the 3-5 days it takes for Tesla to authorize the transfer? If not, the car just sits until authorized?
Not sure if anyone answered you but if they have the key fob(s) they can drive the car as “just” a standard EV with of course Tesla Level standard tech. To unlock updates and the ability to control the car via a smartphone you need access and authentication from the app. I’m driving without authentication for a week. Getting my first software update because I’ve started the verification process and if you can change the name of the car, the verification assumes you at least have the car in your possession!

If you run into any error messages with the app or the VIN is showing it is unable to claim ownership, email the Tesla Customer Support Team CustomerSupport@tesla.com with all of your supporting documents and the issues you are experiencing. I just fixed this problem when it tells you to rename the care you actually have to rename the car whatever the app tells you after that you won’t get the error notification an you can send your driver license an prof of ownership

You can still supercharge. Just won’t have any app functionality or subscription services
My car is added to the app but I don’t think everything is available. I cannot purchase any software upgrades? Is something wrong?

The key cards do not get deactivated when you remove the car from the sellers app. The key cards will continue to work.
